DIY Pentax Remote Outside
The front view of the remote. Made out of a old RadShak power mic. The mic key button now activates the shutter of the camera. The volume dial (barely noticeable top left of mic has been converted to a button of sorts, and controls the auto focus. The added silver toggle switch now acts as a continuous shutter. Set the camera to bulb, flip the switch, hang the remote on the stand, go do your light painting, come back and flip the switch off.
After my next trip to Radshak for a battery holder, I will add in a AAA battery that will power the LED when the auto shutter is in use, to let you know the shutter is still open (and to help find the remote).
Remote trigger in progress - Photo A Day 7/23/2009
I'm building a remote trigger for the Rebel XTi. I'm using a case that is meant to carry band aids. The red switch in the center is the shutter, the red switch on the right is also shutter, but it's a toggle switch to make blub shots much easier. The black switch will be for autofocus, but I'm going to have to get a bit creative as it doesn't quite slide up into the case. The cable is stranded RJ45 that I had laying around. It's going to be a lot of fun trying to squeeze those wires into the 3/32" plug.
Oddly Radio Shack had all the parts I wanted in stock. Just under $10 for the switches and plug.
