Michaux velocipede, Paris 1868. The bicycle is widely believed to be the world's greatest innovation. The first two wheeled vehicle to be simultaneously balanced and propelled is usually credited to Kirkpatrick Macmillan. He was a Scottish blacksmith and engineer who is thought to have built a treadle driven two wheeled vehicle for himself around 1840. The next innovation came in the 1860s when pedals were first attached to the front wheel to create a velocipede or bicycle. The Michaux company in Paris was the first toopen a factory to build them in large numbers.

I took a section of aluminum from a license plate and created a chain guide on my mountain bike to prevent some of the dropped chains I have to deal with. The next step is to figure out how to build one for the bottom. This is definitely better than paying more than $100 for a real chain guide.
