A tire with a deep tread suitable for winter conditions
(Winter Tires) This type of tire is suitable for snow and ice covered roads. The tread pattern features a heavily siped, fine-block design with grooves that are deep and wide, providing excellent driving traction and braking performance on winter road surfaces.
A tire (in American English) or tyre (in British English) is a ring-shaped covering that fits around a wheel rim to protect it and enable better vehicle performance by providing a flexible cushion that absorbs shock while keeping the wheel in close contact with the ground.

Peugeot P7 commuter Studded winter tires
Worst winter in Albuquerque in 100 years. Usually only 2 or 3 inches of show - total - in a typical winter, on December 29-30 2006 we received 12 inches, crippling the city for a week... except for me. Studded ice tires on a 700c wheelset. Still plenty of room on this bike for 700 x 40 deep knobby tires and studs... AND fenders, too!
More winter driving
It ain't over yet, folks. This was last Friday. Studded winter tires (and safe driving habits) are recommended to prevent such events. This was just north of Stoner, about 25 km south of PG. Feb 10, 2011.
