For this assignment I had the idea of just flipping through the dictionary and randomly selecting a few words and then I was going to choose the assignment from that list. The word selected ended up being the first one I found: illusion. Illusion is defined as something which deceives by making a false or misleading impression of reality. I want you to take this however you'd like. I love seeing a variety of photos. This could be an optical illusion or just something that may not be what it seems. You could even make a short story in your description to go along with your picture to explain what makes it an illusion (For example: having a picture of an innocent looking child and then explain that they are in fact a highly dangerous assassin). Get creative and have some fun!
Put your photoshop skills to work and impress us! Create your own illusion.
I'd love for this to be really wide open for interpretation so I don't want to limit this assignment further than the dare. So, none.
WIT: For one of my submissions this week I wanted to take the story route. I was inspired by the movie "Half Nelson" for this shot. It is about a teacher who is really into teaching his students about history, but he strays from the standards and does his own thing. He is also a basket ball coach and kids look up to him. But we soon find out that he has a cocaine habit and it starts taking over his life.
The illusion is that a teacher is someone we look up to and admire but it is forgotten that they are people too, with flaws. We usually don't know our teachers outside the time we are in their class. I just thought that was interesting.
So, I asked Mr.Willmon, my cool English teacher to help me out with this one. He is into art and likes my photos so he was very willing to help. I thought the Ray-Ban Sunglasses were a nice touch because they act as a shield that he is hiding behind. Shot in manual, manual focused and then I just cropped and turned down the saturation all the way.
Youth in Revolt-4
This photo is part of my final project series. My chosen theme for this series was "Youth in Revolt". I was inspired by 'Grease' and the entire 50's era. I tried to depict my models,(my brother Leo, and his friends) as 50's greasers. I dressed them in white shirts, dark jeans, leather jackets, and greased their hair, and photographed them in a parking lot with cars and motorcycles from the time period. In the photos they have tough "cool guy" facial expressions, to depict the rawness and rebellion that we see in Danny Zucko etc.
