The BIG Nikon Photo Competition. Australian Wood Duck (Chenonetta jubata)
An Australian Wood Duck (Chenonetta jubata). Taken during the The BIG Nikon Photo Competition hosted by Photographic Wholesalers.
I had originally booked an afternoon session, but later realised it clashed with another appointment. I had wanted to shoot in the morning, but it had been booked out. There must have been a cancellation because I managed to get in to a 9am session. I was really lucky with the weather, shortly after we wrapped up shooting dark clouds rolled in and we're set for intermittent showers for the rest of today.
This is my best shot. It's not as pin sharp as I'd like it, my aperture was a little shallow and the beast kept moving.

This fine specimen was once part of an 85 bird flock right in the middle of Liverpool city center , the BTO have mistnetted and rung some of these , which would have been good to watch , theres still around 25 left and the berry count is diminishng even faster ! I had to go twice as there wasnt the light the first time to bring the smooth feather detail out .
