I came up with an install process that turned out to be even simpler than using the old pieces as patterns (which is good, because I threw the nasty old pieces out months ago).
First I cut a strip of the padding that was as wide as the widest point of the floor (23 1/2"). The padding has one side that has some sort of plasticy surface, so I rolled it up with that side facing out.
Next I sprayed a line of adhesive down the middle of the floor. I just want enough to keep the padding from sliding, but little enough that I can rip it out if I need to somewhere down the line.
Next I lined the front edge up and just unrolled the carpet making sure to account for the bumps and shape of the floor.
Then I trimmed holes for the bolts and around the front of the trans tunnel. Surprisingly simple.
