ok - so here's the story. Taggy has diabetes. While he can control his sugar with a pill, we really have to watch our diet as well. We've cut out a lot of the carbs (not going Adkins, but you know - white bread, processed goods and whatnot are right out. Whole grains and moderate - MEASURED - portions are in)
We stocked up on tons of "free foods" that Taggy could eat so he's not feeling like he's starving every day. We grabbed tons of fruits (berries cause he can have more of them than other fruits) and even more veggies.
You have to think of it this way, if someone's *never* monitored their portions *VOLUME* is important! the APPEARANCE of a lot of food - will go a loooooooong way!
Well, because of Taggy's Diabetic Diet, we now know what portion size is for his carbs and which carbs count and which don't. We picked up Cheerios (fewer carbs than oatmeal - just as healthy for you and twice the serving size for the same carb count. Remember what I said about volume?) and stocked our freezer with stuffs that would address all his needs and the one health need that my comprehensive checkup did on me (I need to up my good cholesterol - it's at 60 - the base they want it to be)

we went shopping see.... and the freezer is too full! I guess I'm kinda glad that we only have a freezer this size - keeps us from buying too much. as it is, most of this food will last us a month
