Cheap Square Coffee Tables

Paris: Café de la Contrescarpe
Sitting at a table on the terrace of a cafe in Paris is rather like having a seat at the theatre with the show being the passers-by on the street: people watching is what it is all about. The place de la Contrescarpe is between the rue Descartes and the rue Mouffetard in the Latin Quarter. There is a small park in the centre where people gather causing one to wonder what they are up to. The square is almost surrounded by cafes and restaurants. The cafes are good places for a beer (cheaper if "pression") or a coffee. You can fritter away a lot of time in such a place absorbing "atmosphere."
Backlit Beauty
A former barista visits her old cafe to study in the bright light of a winter day. The down coat makes a lot of sense - her table is a few feet from the outside door and a wicked breeze blows in every few minutes.
This portrait was hand metered with a Sekonic Flashmate 208-s, and photographed with a Yashika Mat-124G medium format TLR camera. The film was 220 '6x6' format Kodak Portra. BW in Lr
I used a cheap plastic square lens hood (yay eBay) to cut down on flair. This old camera has very rudimentary lens coatings and there is still a lot of refraction over the subject. I kind of like the effect though.
