Burritt on the Mountain — A Living Museum has been referred to as a "Jewel on the Mountain." Start with Dr. William Henry Burritt's eclectic mansion, add a historic park with restored 19th century houses including barnyard and animals, and you have a delightful mixture of historic old and new experiences for young and old.
In 1955, Dr. Burritt willed his mansion and surrounding acres on Monte Sano Mountain to the city of Huntsville, making it Huntsville's first museum. Enter the 1936 Mansion of Dr. William Henry Burritt, physician and inventor. Today, the mansion gives visitors a glimpse of the fascinating life of Dr. Burritt, as well as exhibits interpreting the history of the people and environment of the Southern Cumberland region of Alabama and Tennessee. See two rooms of original furnishings as well as exhibition galleries of regional and natural history, prehistoric Indian artifacts, rocks and minerals, 19th century furnishings and personal artifacts.
Enjoy the grounds with the old houses where you can step back into the lives of the 19th century southern farmers as you visit historic log structures and other building that reflect our heritage. Visit the Eddin's house built in 1808, an old school house, a blacksmith shop, a spring house, a smoke house, the 1868 Smith-Williams house, a corn crib, an old sorgum mollasses mill, the Balch log house built in 1887, the Chandler dog-trot house, the Meals saddlebag house built in 1845, The Gardiner cabin built in 1830 and used as a slave cabin in the 1850s, the barn, built in 1880 with a breezeway through the center and the old Church House.
The barnyard have chickens, children can often gather eggs, minature horses, mule, goats, sheep, cows.. kids love the barnyard.
Nature Trails galore wind through the woods and around the mountain, taking hikers past historic coal mines and limestone rock formations.

Battleship Memorial Park is a military history park and museum located on the western shore of Mobile Bay in Mobile, Alabama. It has a collection of notable aircraft and museum ships including the South Dakota-class battleship USS Alabama and Gato-class submarine USS Drum. The USS Alabama and USS Drum are both National Historic Landmarks, and the park as a whole is listed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage. (ref. Wikipedia)
