Scenario-Based Training with X-Plane and Microsoft Flight Simulator: Using PC-Based Flight Simulations based on FAA and Industry Training Standards

Fly toward pilot certification with these real-world scenario exercises
Although PC-based flight simulations have been available for 30 years, many pilots, instructors, and flight schools don't understand how best to use these tools in real-world flight training and pilot proficiency programs. This invaluable reference bridges the gap between simulation tools and real-world situations by presenting hands-on, scenario-based exercises and training tips for the private pilot certificate and instrument rating. As the first of its kind based on FAA-Industry Training Standards (FITS), this book steers its focus on a scenario-based curriculum that emphasizes real-world situations.
Experienced pilot and author Bruce Williams ultimately aims to engage the pilot, reinforce the "realistic" selling point of PC-based flight simulations, while also complementing the FAA-approved FITS syllabi.
Serves as essential reading for pilots who want to make effective use of simulation in their training while expanding their skill level and enjoyment of flying
Covers private pilot real-world scenarios and instrument rating scenarios
Includes a guide to recommended websites and other resources
Features helpful charts as well as a glossary
You'll take off towards pilot certification with this invaluable book by your side.

Rebel from Moondance Standard Poodles

Rebel from Moondance Standard Poodles

Rebel from the spcr
I went to give him some love for kari who lives about 90 min. Away
since I live a few miles from his vet. He pretty much stood here and
just let me pet him but he turned on the charm for a picture.
He's a very handsome boy, even when sick.

Here's his story from Karri, (Moondance Standard poodles)
After the last operation we went through the yard and picked up all stuffies, rope toys, cloth toys, anything that could be chewed and broken and swallowed and threw them away. We locked up the garage and grooming salon. Went through the house and found all toys that could be chewed and or swallowed and tossed them away.
Paper towels were handled like a bio hazard and disposed off immediately, kitchen dish rags and towels hung high up or dropped in the washer immediately after use..
So your thinking...what the heck happened...right?
We did not think of the large covered, but with an opening trash recepricol on the back porch. We thought he was not tall enough to reach his big head in it...... we were wrong!

He collasped yesterday at 7:14 am and I dashed his back to the emergency clinic. I did not think he would be alive by the time I got him there, but he was, but barely. I carried him in like a baby, cradled on my shoulder, his head was rolling back and forth like a dead dog.
He was in cardiac distress and almost complete kidney failure.
They stablized him and had him on the operating table with 30 min of my being there. He had to have almsot 2 feet of intestine removed. I thought it was 12 inches, but Dr. Daley called me this morning and said it was closer to 2 feet of intestine because it went black and was necrotic. The Dr. Daley also told me that he is doing better today, but still in very guarded condition.
David and I were so watchful of him, always crating him if we could not be in the same room with him and yet, he still got something.
This is just about a scarey as it gets, I swear.
I want to thank everyone again for their prayers, howls and thoughts, Rebe really, really needs them this time.

Last hurrah for the X-Arcade

Last hurrah for the X-Arcade

I bought this X-Arcade almost 9 years ago. At the time, it was pretty much king-of-the-hill in its price segment, but since then, the rise of the "home arcade" scene has flooded the market with super-high quality components at really great prices, and the rather low-grade parts XGaming uses suddenly weren't so good.

The joysticks were the first to get changed out: they were replaced with Happ Controls Competition sticks about 8 months after I first purchased the X-Arcade. I love these sticks for their square actuator, and solid spring movement, and low travel (plus, they're what we used in the arcade I worked in). More recently, I've completely swapped out the face buttons from the old concave American-style, to the now standard convex style. While it took out some of the nostalgia value, the comfort and performance of play went way up.

Happ Controls has since moved manufacturing operations to China, and with it, their quality has taken a nosedive. Thankfully, the company that originally made the parts for Happ is still in business (Industrias Lorenzo in Spain) , and I was able to source these buttons from Paradise Arcade Shop in Hawaii. Sadly though, this is the last bit of work I plan on putting into this unit, as it is time to move on to a better control panel.

Fun Fact: the splash of color is a tip-of-the-hat to the old Neo Geo cabinets.
