Haiti familiarization flight
A CH-146 Griffon helicopter flies over the city of Port-au-Prince, Haiti during a familiarization flight. This is the first flight the Canadian Forces helicopters have been able to make since their arrival in Haiti on the 17th of March.
Operation HALO is the Canadian Forces commitment to the United Nations Sanctioned Multinational Interim Force whose mission it is to assist in bringing stability to Haiti.
The Canadian Forces are deploying about 450 personnel and six CH-146 Griffon helicopters to Haiti.
The Canadian contingent will be comprised of elements of the Second Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment (2RCR), based in Gagetown, New Brunswick, the Canadian Forces Joint Operations Group in Kingston, Ontario, and 430 Tactical Helicopter Squadron based in Valcartier, Quebec.
Hercules (C-130) and Polaris (CC-150) aircraft based at 8 Wing, Trenton, Ontario, will provide airlift support for this deployment. This Operation is scheduled to last for approximately 90 days.
