CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Jazz guard Gordan Giricek wasn't backing down from the shouting match, coach Jerry Sloan was pointing toward the exit and assistant coach Tyrone Corbin was trying to step in between the two.

That was the scene during a timeout with 7:50 left in the second quarter, when Giricek and Sloan had it out. Giricek was sent to the locker room for the rest of the game and afterward suspended for the final two games of this road trip.

It was the culmination of a month's worth of tension between the two. Giricek lost his job as the backup shooting guard 13 games into the season and didn't get off Sloan's bench at all on the Jazz's trip to Detroit, New York and Philadelphia.

The Jazz did not officially announce that Giricek was suspended, but the decision to send him home might as well have amounted to that. Giricek declined to comment on specifics afterward aside from saying he had done nothing wrong.

It wasn't clear if Giricek and Sloan even spoke after the game. The guard was told that he would not be flying with the team outside the locker room by trainer Gary Briggs.

"No. I don't know," Giricek said after being asked if he wants out of Utah — and before he was informed he would not be permitted to travel with the team to Orlando, where the Jazz visit the Magic on Friday.

"My agent (Marc Fleisher)," Giricek added, "is going to talk to Kevin (O'Connor, the Jazz's general manager)... It's actually gonna be taken care of, right? Everything can be fixed, right? So, we'll see." (source: Tim Buckley/Desert Morning News)

Giricek and Sloan have long had an uneasy relationship and Giricek went to general manager Kevin O'Connor earlier this month to say that enough was enough, he'd probably stayed in Utah too many years and that he wanted to move on.

It is Giricek's belief that Sloan has fostered a perception that he is a weak defender, while Giricek repeatedly says that he was one of the best defensive players in Europe. Giricek is in the final year of his contract, which increases his trade value.

The Washington Wizards were said to be interested in trading for Giricek last summer. Giricek also would be open to a buyout that would leave him free to sign with any team.

What precipitated the argument with Sloan was unclear. Giricek checked in for the final 18.1 seconds of the first quarter and stayed in to start the second. He missed a jumper and traveled before hitting a 20-footer with 8:30 left in the quarter.

MEHMET OKUR TRYING TO TRIP GORDAN GIRIČEK: Mehmet Okur was trying to trip Gordan Giricek as they were going to their locker room after beating Philadelphia on 11/28/07.

Immediately after that shot, Giricek gave up a layup to Jason Richardson at the other end. Asked if that play in particular had drawn Sloan's ire, Giricek said that wasn't the issue.

The Jazz already were down two players Wednesday in Mehmet Okur, who missed his fifth game since injuring his shoulder, and forward Matt Harpring, who is expected to play Friday after he finishes undergoing gastric testing in Utah.

One option is to recall rookie guard Morris Almond (NBDL: 37.5MIN/26.5PTS) from his assignment with the NBA Development League's Utah Flash.

Deron Williams, meanwhile, said the Jazz weren't shaken by seeing Giricek sent to the locker room or suspended. "We can't control it,'' Williams said. "We've just got to keep playing, keep trying to get wins."
