Subject: INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN SNAIL-MAIL NENGAJYOU NEW YEAR'S CARD EXCHANGE
To: Robert Bauer

Dear Haiku Friends,

A few years ago, Pardee Gunter introduced to the Shiki list the
concept of a New Year's [snail mail] card exchange, and those who
participated found it a very rewarding experience. Last year Roberta
Beary suggested we renew that opportunity. A number of folks signed up
to participate, and it was great fun. Roberta and Billie Wilson have
decided to do this again, and this year Billie will collect the snail
mail addresses.

Here's some background: The tradition in Japan around the new year is
to send a New Year's greeting card called a Nengajyou [or nengaj¨] to
friends, family, and acquaintances. The post office in Japan is
prepared for this and actually saves these cards to ensure delivery on
January 1. Many design their own cards with winter scenes or stamps.
The design typically includes the jyunishi (zodiac sign). 2008 is the
year of the rat. Somewhere on the card appear the words *Akemashite
Omedetou Gozaimasu* (Happy New Year)

For those who are interested in participating in a snail mail
exchange, please send Billie -- OFFLIST PLEASE at akwilsons@gci.net
-- your snail mail address no later than December 1. Billie will
compile an address list of all participants and send it to everyone
who signs up (She will send that list no later than December 3).

When you get your list of participants' snail mail addresses, design a
Nengajyou card along the lines suggested above ¨C and include your
original haiku with a New Year's theme. Then snail-mail one card to
each person on the list so that the card will arrive by January 1. The
card can be as simple as your haiku and a message on a postcard
(handmade or purchased), or a more elaborate (handcrafted or
purchased) card with your New Year's haiku within an envelope.

Please put *Nengajyou* in the subject line of your e-mail when you
send your address. Again, please send your address OFFLIST to:
akwilsons@gci.net

Thanks!
Billie and Roberta

GOSTOVANJE DEJVIDA DŽ. LANUA I PROMOCIJA «HAIDJINA»

*
(Issa: Cup-of-Tea Poems, Asian Humanities Press). Japan je posetio još u tri navrata, 2001, 2003. i neposredno pred dolazak u Beograd (održao je predavanje o Isi i Budizmu u Budističkom hramu u Tokiju).
Objavljivao je haiku pesme i kritičke osvrte u Modern Haiku, Frogpond, Bottle Rockets, Ginyu (Tokio), Jointure (Pariz), Poesia (Milano), Literaturen Vestnik (Sofija) ... i drugde.
Pored pisanja "haiku romana"— Haiku Guy (2000), Laughing Buddha (2004) i Haiku Wars (2006)— priredio je Antologiju pesama članova Haiku društva Amerike (2003) a 2004. priveo kraju pisanje knjige kritičkih analiza «Haiku čiste zemlje: Umetnost sveštenika Ise» na kojima je radio preko 15 godina. Aktivan je član Haiku društva Amerike, jedan od nekadašnjih direktora Svetske haiku asocijacije i suosnivač Haiku društva Nju Orleansa.
