"He was not suicidal and did not want to die or leave us. So, he experienced his own death right up until that last injection for pain relief. His little, emaciated body wasn't working anymore. His organs were shut down. He was in excruciating pain. I know he was terrified. Layne was a proud man, and I know of no one who would trade his years-long death experience. He wrote that knowing you were going to die was a great privilege, for then you could live the rest of your life with good intention. Layne was a beautiful mind and a great soul, spirit, heart trapped in an addict's body. He innocently tried recreational drugs out of curiosity and he was "hooked", led around by it for the rest of his life. He was not a weak person, an immoral person. He had a very strong physical and mental constitution. His brain chemistry was whacked by drugs.
