BEHR-E-PAIMA
The Survey Vessel BEHR PAIMA is a hydrographic-cum oceanographic survey vessel of Japanese origin. Her keel was laid on 16 February and was launched on 7 July 1982. The ship was handed over to Pakistan on 27 December, same year. The ship is going through 26th year of her service. The ship was equipped with most modern surveying systems of different origins available at that time. The hydrographic systems have been replaced from time to time and hence are parallel with modern trends and techniques available in the world. Most of the oceanographic equipments are however, of the original outfit.
The ship, since induction, has carried-out extensive survey operations and all coastal area has been surveyed on different scales. Pakistan’s southeastern sea front comprised of Indus delta creeks which have been partially surveyed, however, sea area west and south of Karachi has been thoroughly surveyed. Ship has conducted frequent surveys of Jinnah Naval Base channel and basin. Construction of JNB was based on the data collected by the ship. Pakistan’s deep water port at Gwadar was also planned based on data rendered by the ship. The corresponding series of charts on different scales have been published for the entire coast of Pakistan based on ships surveyed data. The ship has also conducted dredging surveys, wreck search, north markings, tidal data collections, and detached surveys etc.
Basement Progress
I put down 2 coats of Behr Garage Floor paint and am now putting up masonry waterproofing. The walls don't have any moisture, but I figured why not. The white looks better than bare concrete.
BTW, what you see here is an entire can of the stuff... took 4 hours... have to do the first coat with a brush. Still have a lot of work to do.

the tiling was mostly completed. we chose the design (and hex tile), as it was commonly used in bathrooms during the '20s & '30s.
sealant was applied this morning (which is why i had to take this from outside the doorway). once that dries, it'll be time for the grout (today), and then another coat of sealant (tomorrow morning). the hole in the floor is the plumbing access panel, which will get tiled after the tub is installed.
i painted the ceiling before the crew showed up, and i'm hoping it won't need a second coat. the room was supposed to be finished tomorrow, but now it's looking like this weekend. argh. 04.20.09

Until now biogeography (the study of the geographic distribution of species) and biodiversity (the study of species richness and relative species abundance) have had largely disjunct intellectual histories. In this book, Stephen Hubbell develops a formal mathematical theory that unifies these two fields. When a speciation process is incorporated into Robert H. MacArthur and Edward O. Wilson's now classical theory of island biogeography, the generalized theory predicts the existence of a universal, dimensionless biodiversity number. In the theory, this fundamental biodiversity number, together with the migration or dispersal rate, completely determines the steady-state distribution of species richness and relative species abundance on local to large geographic spatial scales and short-term to evolutionary time scales.
Although neutral, Hubbell's theory is nevertheless able to generate many nonobvious, testable, and remarkably accurate quantitative predictions about biodiversity and biogeography. In many ways Hubbell's theory is the ecological analog to the neutral theory of genetic drift in genetics. The unified neutral theory of biogeography and biodiversity should stimulate research in new theoretical and empirical directions by ecologists, evolutionary biologists, and biogeographers.

James Hubbell has been building and adding to his home on a hilltop outside of San Diego, CA for over 30 years. It's clearly inspired by Gaudi (and walking the grounds feels a lot like a mini Park Guell), among other influences. But Hubbell is a master of organic architecture and walking through his estate is a rare treat. It's open to the public every year on Fathers' Day.
This compound was almost destroyed in the Cedar Fire of 2003, but has now been almost entirely rebuilt.

Volvio su mirada hacia aquello cuya sombra habia detenido sus pasos. Su mano se movio hacia su cinturon, como buscando algo que creia perdido. Introdujo la mano entre la ropa y saco con lentos movimientos un pequeno bulto envuelto muy cuidadosamente, en un panuelo de encaje de mujer. Por su mente volaron ideas, recuerdos, sentimientos, olores, sabores, dolor, odio y, amor.
El aroma del panuelo era tenue pero aun conservaba un suave olor a vainilla. Con carino y cuidado desenvolvio el objeto que guardaba el panuelo y cuando quedo por completo al descubierto paso sus largos y firmes dedos sobre la hermosa daga. La levanto firmemente con ambas manos recorriendo con su mirada el sencillo diseno de su curvada hoja, y su austero mango en el cual solamente se podian leer dos iniciales con una hiedra entrelazada entre ellas, como en un abrazo que ni la propia muerte podria jamas separar. Estas iniciales eran K y N.
Su mirada volvio al cielo mientras cogia el cuchillo por el mango y en el justo momento en que hundia la hoja en su blanca piel, el cielo comenzo a llorar y empapar su ropa, su cuerpo y hasta su propia alma.
Mientras el dolor invadia su cuerpo y notaba como las fuerzas le dejaban miro a lo que momentos antes habia detenido sus pasos. His gaze returned to heaven as she took the knife by the handle and in the right moment when the blade sank into his white skin, the sky began to mourn and soak his clothes, body and even his own soul.
While the pain invaded his body as he noticed as the forces left him he look at what moments before had stopped their steps. It was a girl with red hair and fair skin like snow, it was as if his skin had never been touched by the sun. His body was rocked by the gentle breeze and bathed by the rain falling steadily on his cold body. His hands were entwined by a rope hanging from a tree a few feet off the ground. It almost seemed asleep, except for the wound in his chest that showed who had been stabbed in the heart.
The boy's body fell heavily on the carpet of grass that was covering the floor, as green as his eyes. And when his face hit the ground, his soul began to leak while breathed her last breath. The rain drenched his face wiping the tears away and let his eyes while everything became dark and cold as the winter night, his eyes saw a daisy that seemed to have been waiting all his life there.
At that moment he wanted to live, wanted to get up and walk again around the world, wanted to go thousands of miles in an instant to ... But in the end, he died.

This image was taken courtesy of the dead battery in the rental car. I cam out of the Narrows walk the 2nd day and saw the sky was developing quite well. I was very excited and decided to hit the typical watchman/river comp right on the bridge with other 100 photographers. :) Once I got back to the car at the visitor’s center, I found out the f***ing car battery is dead, I was anxiously waiting for the ranger to come while watching the sky was nice and juicy. Finally the car got jump started and I had to drive around so I drove around and saw this rainbow over the zion mountain range along hwy 9 near the entrance, I left the car running and ran out with my pack to find a comp and this is where I came up with. The rainbow lasted for about 5 mins in total and when I found the comp I only had about 30 secs and this is the only frame that i came up with.

The historic Fine Arts Building, a wood-framed structure designed by Louis Kamper in 1905 is mostly demolished at time of writing. This 7-story structure at 44 W. Adams is being demolished except for its facade, which is being preserved for future use. Ilitch Holdings Inc., the owner of the building has received a state grant to demolish the building after acquiring it as a working building in 1988. 21 years of water filtering in from rooftop skylights due to demolition by neglect is the reason for the interior's sad state.
Presented is one last look at the building.

The founder, Aurthur Gerard Shaw, having recognised the growing demand for architectural ceramics, began manufacturing utilising the rich clay deposits unearthed at his father’s coal mines at Belthorn and Waterside.
Originally known as the Shaws Glazed Brick Company, production soon developed to encompass terracotta and faience. So successful was this venture that in 1908 a new factory was built adjacent to the mines at Waterside.
The company continued to make progress until the outbreak of war in 1914.
To keep work alive acid ware and ceramic conductors were made for the government.
During this time Arthur Gerald invented and patented a system of burning clayware by gas and by 1919 had formed The Shaws Gas Kiln Company, building and installing kilns throughout Great Britain, Europe and America.
The years between the wars saw a tremendous growth in demand, with architects of the day realising the material’s excellence in both design versatility and durability. High Streets throughout the country were soon embellished with complete elevations of Shaws faience.
By 1924 Fireclay Sanitaryware had been introduced and Shaws had become Darwen’s largest employer with up to 600 staff at the present 26 acre Waterside site.
1951 saw the unfortunate death of Arthur Gerald, but the company – unlike any others in the industry – continued to prosper by anticipating the changing architectural styles. Since then the company has continued to develop its manufacturing processes, product range, quality and customer relationships right through to the modern day.

Nail Polish on floor, wall and lamp
Was baking brownies one night, a rare treat. My 3 year old twins were rummaging through a kitchen drawer, which I kindly told them to get out of. They both put their hands behind their back, and overly abundantly offered, "I have nothing" in a cute but cunning voice. We've played this game before, but this time, they tricked me! They each gave me an insignificant item; an AA battery. I put the "nothing AA battery" back in the drawer, asked them to go watch a TV program while the brownies finished baking.
About 5 minutes before the brownies were due to be done, I smelled a rather strange smell. The brownies cooking in the oven smelled delicious, of course, but there was something else. Something chemically smelling. I walked into the room where they were supposedly watching TV, found them huddled in the corner, giggling, and the smell grew quickly stronger as I approached where they were. When I asked them to step out, immediately saw the mess, understood what that chemically smell was, and sent them upstairs to their room. No brownies for them that night.
The lamp and the walls, I could tolerate that. But the floor tiles were exactly 2 days old. We'd just spent an entire week out of our house for the most part since we'd just had a new kitchen put in, complete with new stone tile floors in the kitchen and adjacent dining room. Tried nailpolish remover, worked to some extent, but we now have pink grout in that corner of the room.
