Cylinder Head Repair | Plainfield Naperville Bolingbrook IL Engine Failure? Blown Gasket? Block Leaking? Most all engines have two major components: the engine block and the cylinder head. The block contains the crankshaft and the pistons. The pistons go up and down in the cylinders, which are a part of the block. The top of the cylinders is covered by the CYLINDER HEAD. This is ths other "major part" of an engine. 12052 S Naper-Plainfield Rd, Plainfield, IL 60585 (815) 577-0327 Head Gasket (Cyl. 3-4, Top) Portion of the head gasket (As seen from above, looking down the cylinders. Bookbinder's label This label was placed in books bound by David Vallance at his workshop at the Shore, Dunbar. The books were bound by Vallance to his customer's requirements; the mark acted as advertising and a reminder to the owner if repair was required. This is a small paper sticker or label of yellow paper with black printed text in a black box. The text reads D VALLANCE BOOKBINDER SHORE DUNBAR. The label is in the corner of the inside cover of a leather bound book. In East Lothian, professional bookbinders were working in at least Haddington and Dunbar in the eighteenth century. The profession continued to be represented in both places in the succeeding century. Changes in the book industry, new technology and the cost of traditional materials meant that few of the businesses continued for long in the 20th century. Accession number - Am86.5.1 Sarah Dare Sarah Dare is acclimatising to her new home of Dungog after recently moving from England. She loves the light and warmth of Australia and her artist’s eye is learning the nuances of a new visual environment. Working in a printery as a young woman led Sarah into book binding which she practised professionally. She says that “What is fascinating about book repair work is that you never know what book you will come across next”. She had experienced this same sense of anticipation when working in an earlier career with antiques in London. Sarah creates “altered book” sculptures that combine sharp precision with gentle rhythms. She loves the materials she works with. The textures, patterns and colours of fabric, suede, leather, threads and papers are muted and subtle. This beautifully balances the structural complexity of her artworks. Mirror reflection?... nope So... how many differences can you find in the two cars? Shots from the bus. We stopped a minute in some small town to let the bus driver stretch his legs. These towns had a very interesting feel to them. Downtown was dominated by coal trucks being repaired and refueling. Areas not involved in this business seemed to be struggling. I can't be certain of this, but I believe it is due in part to the large numbers of people moving from rural parts of China into cities. Some of the buildings with vacant shops reminded me struggling downtowns of small rural towns in the U.S. Some town in north central China Bad day for the car Came out Monday night to a nice surprise. Chris Duncan Christopher Edward Duncan (born May 5, 1981 in Tucson, Arizona) is an outfielder/First Baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals. He is the son of former Oakland Athletics catcher and current St. Louis pitching coach Dave Duncan. His older brother Shelley plays for the Yankees. His current stand-up song is "Bombtrack" By Rage Against The Machine. Early life Duncan is a graduate of Canyon del Oro High School in the Tucson suburb of Oro Valley. He was drafted by the Cardinals in 1999 and made his debut with the big club on September 10, 2005. On October 2, 2005, he became the last player to hit a home run at Busch Memorial Stadium during the regular season. [edit] 2006 After spending most of the first half of the 2006 season working his way into the regular roster, he has become a great find for the Cardinals. In 2006, he was third in all of baseball behind David Ortiz and Ryan Howard in homers per at bat for players with at least 75 at bats. For the season, Duncan hit 22 home runs in only 280 at bats. In the 2006 World Series, Duncan appeared in three of the five games, batting 1 for 8 with an RBI. He committed an error in the fourth inning of Game 5 which was promptly followed by a two-run homer by Sean Casey, and misplayed a fly ball by Casey, which was ruled a double, in the sixth inning. However, Duncan and the Cardinals won the game and the Series, defeating the Detroit Tigers four games to one. Following the 2006 season, Duncan was named the team's Rookie of the Year. [1] [edit] 2007-2008 Duncan became a regular starter in 2007, playing 127 of the team's 162 games that season. He batted .259/.354/.480, hitting 21 home runs (2nd on team) and 70 RBI (2nd on team), and third in doubles (20). He also finished second in total bases (180). He lead the team in strikeouts with 123. On September 20, 2007, Duncan underwent surgery for a sports hernia, it was successful and joined the team back in the clubhouse on September 22. His brother, Shelley, also suffered a sports hernia; it turns out that the brothers are very competitive and were trying to outdo one another in their workouts and pushed it too hard. Duncan was sent to Triple-A Memphis after a less than expected start to 2008 and Joe Mather was brought up to take his place, however he was called back up earlier than expected when Albert Pujols went on the Disabled list. Duncan started regularly at first base in Pujols place while he was injured. Duncan has been criticized for his occasionally poor fielding. Light Leaked Buckets [rgb] I had a feeling it may leak a bit of light, but I always like to run an initial roll through any new camera just to determine how much light they will leak and get an idea of where from. After getting the first roll developed from my Lubi, I found it leaked everywhere! This is probably a common factor with Lubitels, but not ever owning one before I wasn’t sure. In fact the only image that didn’t have a ruddy great light leak right over the top third of the exposure was this one of some buckets, and even that had large leaks at the corners. Not to worry however, as this is something a generous application of light-proof tape (I usually just use black electrician’s tape) can easily remedy! HOW TO REPAIR A BICYCLE PUNCTURE - HOW TO REPAIR
HOW TO REPAIR A BICYCLE PUNCTURE - REPAIRING CEMENT CRACKS. How To Repair A Bicycle Puncture
Streets Waltzing around the cycle blogosphere it seems odd that so much terminology has spawned regarding what is, in fact, a simple pursuit. Is it a result of the decades old tendency in North America and other non-bike culture countries to nerdify cycling because it has primarily been viewed as a sport or a hobby and not a reasonable and basic form of transport? Perhaps. Let's straighten things out, shall we? What you see in the photo above, taken in Copenhagen, is something we call a "cyclist". Not a bicycle commuter, nor a "utility cyclist". Certainly not a "lightweight, open air, self-powered traffic vehicle user". It's a cyclist. The Copenhagener above is not "commuting" - or at least she doesn't call it that. She's not going for a "bike ride" or "making a bold statement about her personal convictions regarding reduction of Co2 levels and sustainable transport methods in urban centers". She's just going to work. On her bike. And that's what she's riding. A bike. A "cykel" in Danish. It's not a city bike or an Alternative Transport Vehicle or a "Dutch bike" [whatever THAT is... not even the Dutch call them Dutch bikes, not to mention tens of millions of Chinese] - it's just a bike. When she bought her bike at her local bike shop she didn't have a "fitting" at the "full service workshop and showroom". She probably walked into the shop and said, "I need a bike". The chap working there probably shrugged, glanced her up and down and said, "you'll be needing a 52cm". "I like the black one, over there..." "That's a 52cm" "Great. How much?" And off she went with her new bike. He didn't offer her any fancy, expensive "bike gear" or "accessories" and he didn't try to dazzle and confuse her with inaccessible, nerdy technerd babble in order to make more money. She needed a bike. He owned a bike shop. It was over in 20 minutes. Although he probably adjusted her seat for her. The bike she chose was a black one. Probably a good, reliable Danish brand like Kildemoes or Taarnby. It certainly wasn't a TerraTurbo Urban Warrior X9000. It was just a bike. What it is called isn't important to her. Just the fact that it works. She doesn't know how much it weighs. Nobody she knows or has ever met could tell you how much their bike weighs. Likewise, she doesn't know how far she rides each day. It isn't interesting. She rides at a good pace, not too fast to cause a sweat, and the ride is nice enough. She likes the fresh air and she often sees friends on the bike lanes. She loves crossing The Lakes and seeing the transformation from season to season. That will suffice. She doesn't wake up and make a decision to "commute by bike to work today". It's just a part of her day. She just walks out of her flat and gets on her bike. If it has a puncture, she'll walk it down to the local bike shop to get it repaired and then take the bus or train to work. Picking it up in the afternoon. She isn't an activist, doesn't belong to a cycling organisation with a long acronym and she doesn't even think about the fact that she lives in something called a "bike culture". She's just a cyclist. Riding her bike to work. She'll be doing the same tomorrow. If other cities had more of these kinds of cyclists, they'd find that a "bike culture" would be achieved a lot more quickly. Punctures repaired here Kinshasa's full of these mysterious sculptural arrangements, usually signifying an available service (e.g. puncture repairs) or something for sale (e.g. used tires). In this case there was nobody around, but doubtless someone would have materialised in case of need. Alex Stone Outer space had always been the destination that humanity wanted to reach, but when they got there they wanted to push outwards and explore more and more of it. They wanted to live in space and as such they began to build colonies through the blackness of space. Most were close to Earth and the moon, but others were a little further. There was one colony on the far outskirts close to Jupiter that was a military colony. There it developed weapons in secret, but it was abandoned for something far closer to earth as shipping times were just too much. But the colony was left and people still went there. It was there that Alex Stone and his family lived. A young eighteen year old boy, colony born, and raised. He'd never seen Earth except for in holo vids and pictures in his text books. He was extremely smart for his age and showed promise as both an engineer in repairing the colony, but also mobile suits left behind. He was happy in his own little world in the colony with his friends and family. But not all stories can stay happy. It happened quickly as a military force known as Phantom arose to power through out the colonies. It was a group that sought to control the colonies and free them from Earth's control. They proclaimed the the colonists were slaves to Earth and that in order to be free they had to fight against the Earth. Many of his friends agreed with there claims and went to join. He himself considered it, but his father wouldn't have it. He was forced to stay behind and watch as his friends went off to fight in a war as heroes... Oh how wrong he was. War is nothing glorious or beautiful although poets paint it out to be with there fancy words. He was left behind to continue with his studies as the war spread throughout the colonies. His father was almost never home nowadays as he was working on some secret project for the Earth Federation. He didn't understand it and almost resented his father for it. But one night changed everything. He remembered the tremor that threw him from his bed and to the floor in the middle of the night. He remembered the screams of the people as buildings exploded and holes were ripped into the colony breaching the hull and exposing the inside to the void of space. His father came into the room bursting the door open. "GET UP DAMNIT!!!" He yelled as he pulled Alex up and pushed a flight suit into his hands. "Get that on and follow me," he said in a hurried and yet panicked voice. He saw worry and fear in his fathers eyes and it scared him, but he did as he was told. Slipping into the suit quickly he followed his father from there home and to the base where his father worked. Once inside he followed his father down a pathway he'd never seen before. He'd been there countless times and had never once seen it. But when the lights came on it became clear as to why. There in the middle of the floor stood a mobile suit he'd never seen before; blue and white armor shown brightly in the light as alarm lights were flashing. His father then turned to him. "I'm sorry son... But I must entrust this to you... In order to save what I love the most," he was then cut off by another explosion. "No time... I'll have to explain everything quickly to you," he said as he pulled Alex up and thrust him into the cockpit. He gave a quick and brief explanation of how to maneuver the suit and eed that it was locked on to Earth and that he had to get it there. He watched the hatch hiss close and the suit come to life. It was amazing to be inside something so powerful and yet it didn't matter to him. At that moment he was focused on his father who was watching the suit fly away with tears in his eyes. And then a flash of light and explosion ripped through the base and his father was gone as the suit shot off into space with sparkling particles following behind it. Everything else felt rushed as he raced to Earth and to the based. There he was given a room where he confined himself for the time being to think of what had happened and the choices he'd have to make. He slept most of the time, but was awoken with horrible nightmares of what had happened. And tonight was no different as he sat in his bed soaked in a cold sweat in an unfamiliar world. DIY SOS We heard a noise downstairs and I couldn't work out what it was. Mr O said I'd been doing a bit of nocturnal laundry and the washing machine was on. I assured him it wasn't. Being the man of the house (and me being a coward) he went first to investigate - there was water peeing through the kitchen light - it was also runing down the window and door. Foolishly, the first thing I did was put the light on (Durghh), luckily I wasn't electricuted and the light was still working. Whilest I was in the kitchen on my own I heard this slow deep voice reminiscent of the type you get from poltergists in films - it freaked me out a bit, until I realised that it was Chef from South Park, sitting on the window sill, being activated by the water. He sang 'I'm gonna make love to you woman and lay you down by the fire' a few times in a slow spooky manner and did his swan song in the style of Pinky and Perky. Mr O swiched off the water and we left buckets everywhere. The next day, we had the man from the Gas Board (how old am I, calling it the Gas Board?!) come round to see if he could pinpoint the leak, at this point we thought it could've been related to the heating. He said he didn't have the right tools in the van and would come back the following day. This left us without water until the following afternoon (it makes you realise how much you take it for granted whn you don't have it). He came round the next day and cut a hole in the bathroom floor with a circular saw where we thought the leak was coming from and didn't find it there. He removed the panel frm the side of the bath and found the source of the leak - a burst pipe for the cold water tap. Only thing was, he couldn't repair it, because it was cold water, if it was hot water he could've done it (?!). He kindly left us a replacement pipe and my hero, Mr O, fixed it himself. We thought we could live with the hole in the bathroom floor for a couple of days. Wrong. My husband, Mr Magoo, forgot it was there and put his foot through to the kitchen below. Luckily he only had bruised elbows from the experience. The hole in the bathroom floor has been repaired. The builders are coming on Tuesday to replace half the kitchen ceiling. Friday we get new flooring in the bathroom and kitchen. What I've learnt from this is that insurance companies are a) a bunch of rob-dogs and b) they make you do all the running around to get things put right. They weren't prepared to reimburse us for a plumber because they don't pay out for the fault itself. I've obviously been duped by house insurance ad's on the telly - the ones where a jolly person with a clipboard comes round to you house (or a smiley woman in a call centre) and magically takes care of everything with the least amount of trouble and disruption to the house-holder. Images are TIFF screen captures of a source file and encoded output from Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 Pro. Rankings represent relative image quality from best (1) to worst (4) for each file. Windows Media Player 12 produced the best quality video. There was no noticeable difference among the source file, EE4 mp4 output, and EE4 wmv output. Video playback in VLC Media Player 1.1.4 on a computer running 32-bit Vista Professional was equivalent to WMP12. However, images were more pale on a second computer running 32-bit Vista Home Premium. There was no noticeable difference among the source file, EE4 mp4 output, and EE4 wmv output on each computer. The H.264 mp4 source video and EE4 output file were pale and washed out when viewed in RealPlayer SP 1.1.3. However, image quality of the EE4 wmv file was better and equivalent to playback in WMP12. Images also appeared pale and washed out in QuickTime. There was no noticeable difference between the source video and EE4 mp4 output. Image quality can be improved in QuickTime Pro by changing transparency to "Straight Alpha." Each media player produced comparable image quality for source video and EE4 output (except Realplayer SP, where wmv output was better). The pale, washed out appearance of H.264 mp4 video is likely a result of media player codecs and color management. Color and luminance shift may not be intrinsic to the H.264 encoding process, or some media players effectively accommodate for it. Click the "Next" button to view other slides in the set. Old and new pumps Notice that the new one doesn't come with the threaded studs. If you can't remove the old ones without gurring up the threads, you'll need new ones. Best way to remove them from the old pump is to squirt them with WD-40 and lightly tap the protruding ends several times each with a hammer. Wait 5 minutes then repeat. Then wrap the threads with cardboard or heavy rag and grasp with HD pliers near the bottom, jerking counterclockwise to break free. You might need put a handle or something between the other studs to hold it still.
