Chateau Marmont

Chateau Marmont

The Chateau Marmont is a hotel built in West Hollywood, California in 1927 and modeled after the Chateau d'Amboise in France's Loire Valley. It has served as the backdrop for a number of events in the lives of well-known rock stars and actors. Fred Horowitz, a local attorney, began construction on the hotel in 1927. His project turned into the Chateau Marmont, named for the street running across the back of the property. The Chateau Marmont opened in February 1929 as an apartment house, but high rents and the Depression kept renters away. In 1931 the building was changed to a hotel.[1] The hotel was bought in 1990 is currently owned and managed by Hotels AB, run by celebrity hotelier Andre Balazs.

Living Trusts for Everyone

Living Trusts for Everyone

Should you have a trust or a will if you want to save money and give your loved ones the maximum benefit from your estate? Do lawyers always have their clients’ best interests in mind? Is your estate too small for a trust to be the right choice?

Ronald Sharp answers these questions and more in his guide to living trusts. He explains trusts in clear and easy-to-understand language, including one truth that most lawyers don’t want to admit: A trust is not only as effective but is often less costly than a will. Wills benefit lawyers. Trusts benefit families. Without all of the technical jargon included in most law books, Living Trusts for Everyone highlights the benefits of trusts and how to avoid unnecessary legal expenses.

Hillary Clinton Shot

Hillary Clinton Shot

I was really surprised with the lax attitude the Secret Service people had with us. I was literally 10 feet behind her and i had no problem poking my camera out from behind the back curtain and snagging some shots of her. She got up and gave a speech in support of the Legal Aid Society (for which this was a benefit) for about 45 minutes. Afterwards she walked off stage through the back curtain and right into me. I was holding my guitar at the time...the conversation went something like this.

Hillary: So, you guys playing tonight?

Me: Yeah

Hillary: Cool.

She subsequently shook my hand and walked away.

Judge Benjamin Franklin Barkley (1822-1882)

Judge Benjamin Franklin Barkley (1822-1882)

In 1855 Benjamin F. Barkley, a Kentucky physician, with his wife Malinda Elizabeth Duncan (1827-1917) and their children settled on a farm at Birdville. There he practiced medicine, became a lawyer, and a charter member of Masonic Lodge No. 148 in Fort Worth. In 1856 Dr. Barkley tried unsuccessfully to keep the county seat at Birdville. As a republican leader, he spoke out against slavery and secession. Barkley was admired for donating land for Birdville's Cemetery and participating in Indian Campaigns, but his strong will and pro-union stand stirred anger in the area. He barely escaped death several times.
Barkley treated wounded Confederate soldiers and aided their families despite his opposition to the Civil War, and served as local postmaster during the war.
During reconstruction, Barkley headed the county registration board which denied the vote to former Confederate supporters. He was appointed county judge in 1867 and used federal troops to maintain order. With great courage he fought to protect the rights of the ex-slaves. He left office after democrats won all county offices in 1873, but remained active in law and medicine throughout north Texas for the remainder of his life.

We have an awesome law library at my office. We don't need it; we're in finance.

When we bought the building 5 years ago, a group of lawyers (big surprise) owned the building. They left almost all of their furniture and this entire library.

All the lawyers and employees SERIOUSLY packed up their personal belongings and moved to Utah. They all decided to convert to Mormonism.

That's cool and all but I hear most Mormons don't practice polygamy anymore. That sucks.

The Safe Way to Drink & Drive !

The Safe Way to Drink & Drive !

One of the best finds ever - I discovered it in a little Chinese Emporium in Spain - A clever device that clips onto your ear, in much the same way as a mobile handsfree earphone, but the beauty of this is that it ensures safer driving - even when drunk !!!

I have yet to run this one past the PSNI (Police Service Of Northern Ireland). But I'm sure that once they see it and read the plain English instructions (as shown to the right) they'll have no issues with my driving whilst pissed as a newt.

After all if a device which looks like this makes talking on the mobile phone whilst driving safe and acceptable, then driving whilst drunk has be virtually risk free as well. I've decided to import these to the UK and sell them at ?50 a pop - I refuse to disclose how much I'll be buying them at !!!

Feckitt - forgot to take the price sticker off !!!!!

Best anti drink & drive ad ever.

Best anti drink & drive ad ever.

This was a large sign posted above an entrance to one of the local bars at Newport Beach.

If the 'authorities' ever really wanted to cut down on drunk driving, they should run an ad campaign detailing what a person convicted of DUI/DWI go through; monetary costs, classes, potential jail time, etc.

That's assuming they just get pulled over & don't cause a wreck.

Most people don't realize the full consequences until it's too late.

Mondulkiri: Rubber plantation dispute

Mondulkiri: Rubber plantation dispute

SITUATION IN MONDOLKIRI TENSE AFTER LAND CLASHES
12/23/08
Kuch Naren
and Katie Nelson
The Cambodia Daily

Sen Monorom town, Mondolkiri province - Tension continued Monday following the weekend's violent confrontation between ethnic minority villagers and workers for the Khaou Chuly company who are clearing 2,705 hectares of land for a massive rubber plantation in Pech Chreada district, which the villagers say is their land.
Three of the firm's excavators were torched and another smashed by hundreds of villagers who protested on Saturday morning against the company's clearing of contested land.
No one was hurt during the protest, though armed police reportedly raised their guns and pointed them at the protestors in order for them to retreat.
"[On Sunday] I held negotiations with all seven village chiefs and with the commune councilor, but unfortunately I could not meet with the villagers," said Yim Lux, Mondolkiri deputy provincial governor.
"I am really deeply sorry over the wrongdoings that have been committed by the villagers who used violence to destroy the property of the company," he said.
Workers for the Khaou Chuly company, which was granted a land concession by the government in late 2007 to establish the rubber plantation, said on Monday the villagers showed up caring tools and plastic bags and water bottles filled with gasoline and diesel.
"There were 12 of us and many of them. I tell you honestly that those villagers were not unarmed, they carried axes, hoes, machetes and small knives. We are afraid they will come back," said Oum Chreang, 59, one of the workers.
"It is not even the company they are hurting. We are families who are trying to earn a living," Oum Chreang said, adding that he and others are merely contract workers who have been hired to clear the land and are not Khaou Chuly staff.
Villagers, who refused to give their names because they fear retribution for speaking out, said they are now staying close to their homes because they are afraid of being arrested by the numerous local, provincial and military police who have been deployed to the area since Saturday.
Those interviewed on Monday who had taken part in the protest said that they had chopped at excavators with axes, but the axes were already at the site and were being used to clear the forest.
Nhim Mak, Pech Chreada village chief, appealed for calm on Monday.
"Now provincial authorities and provincial police are resolving this matter but I am very sorry for the incident because whatever the villagers have done was quite violent," he said.
"They should calm down," he said.
According to Nhim Mak, several police officers were injured during the confrontation with the villager after they arrived at the scene on Saturday.
"They were bitten by the villagers," he said, adding that the officers did not fight back for fear of being accused of brutality.
In dispute is a large swath of forest several kilometers from the famous Busra commune waterfall that locals says has been farmed by 1,030 local families have grown rice, bananas and cassava for the past three decades.
The government in 2007 awarded that land in a 99-year lease to Khaou Chuly Group, and the firm started clearing portions of the forest in April. A large rubber tree nursery is already in operation and thousands of saplings already dot the site.
The villagers say they are objecting to further forest clearance until they receive proper compensation for the loss of their land.
Saturday's protest involved around 400 villagers marching to the disputed property where a dozen workers were using four excavators to clear trees and brush.
Yim Lux said he hopes to negotiate a peaceful settlement with the villagers and the company, though those responsible for Saturday's violence would be prosecuted.
"I will try my best to negotiate and compromise with the company but the people who caused violence destroyed property will face the law system for their wrongdoings," he said.

i-am-prepared-to-die--extracts-from-nelson-mandela-s-1964-rivonia-trial-speech

After the 1948 election victory of the Afrikaner-dominated National Party, which supported the apartheid policy of racial segregation, Mandela began actively participating in politics. He led prominently in the ANC's 1952 Defiance Campaign and the 1955 Congress of the People, whose adoption of the Freedom Charter provided the fundamental basis of the anti-apartheid cause.[20]] During this time, Mandela and fellow lawyer Oliver Tambo operated the law firm of Mandela and Tambo, providing free or low-cost legal counsel to many blacks who lacked attorney representation.
Mahatma Gandhi influenced Mandela's approach, and subsequently the methods of succeeding generations of South African anti-apartheid activists. (Mandela later took part in the 29–30 January 2007 conference in New Delhi marking the 100th anniversary of Gandhi's introduction of satyagraha (non-violent resistance) in South Africa).

2 Die as Planes Crash at Field. Eddie Schneider, Who Flew at 15, is Killed When His Craft and Navy Trainer Collide. Passenger Also Victim. US Ship is Landed Safely at Floyd Bennett Airport Despite Damaged Wings.

Eddie Schneider, who started flying when he was 15 years old and set a junior transcontinental record in 1930 at the age of 18, was killed with a student passenger yesterday when their light training plane was in collision with a Naval Reserve plane, also on a training flight, just west of Floyd Bennett Field. The Naval Reserve plane landed safely at the field but Schneider's plane went into a spin, tore off a wing, and crashed into Deep Creek, a few hundred feet across Flatbush Avenue from the city airport in Brooklyn. Both Schneider and his passenger, George W. Herzog, 37, a contractor living at 535 North Second Street, New Hyde Park, Long Island, were dead when their bodies were pulled from the submerged wreckage. At the Naval Reserve base at Floyd Bennett Field it was said the Navy biplane, a Stearman trainer, had been piloted by Ensign Kenneth A, Kuehner, 25, of Minister, Ohio, with Second Class Seaman Frank Newcomer, of Rochester, Ohio, as a passenger. The right lower wing of the naval plane, the left upper wing and the propeller were damaged. The third accident, in two weeks in which a Naval Reserve plane based at Floyd Bennett Field was involved, it brought the comment from Dock Commissioner John McKenzie that it was the sort of thing to be expected “where there are training: flights at an airport.” “That is the point that Mayor La Guardia has been making". Mr. McKenzie said, "in his efforts to keep training away from commercial fields" Police said the witnesses to the accident were agreed that the Naval Reserve plane was crossing above the plane piloted by Schneider, a high-wing Piper Tandem Cub monoplane, as the two approached the field for a landing 600 feet above Deep Creek, Schneider's plane went into a tight spin as the two planes disengaged after colliding, the witnesses said, appeared to straighten out and then plummeted into the water as its left wing tore loose. Many would-be rescuers were on the scene within, a few moments, including police, Coast Guardsmen and fliers from Floyd Bennett Field. The bodies of the two men were pulled quickly from the wreckage and onto a half-submerged barge near which the plane fell, but it appeared both had been killed when the plane hit the water. Joseph Hanley, first assistant district attorney of Kings County, opened an investigation at the scene and a naval board of inquiry, headed by Commander H. R. Bowes, was ordered convened by the Navy Department in Washington. Schneider lived at 32-50 Seventy-third Street, Jackson Heights, Queens. He leaves a widow. Herzog leaves a widow and two children. He had been flying some time, holding a limited commercial pilot's license, but had enrolled for a refresher course with the Archie Baxter Flying Service, Inc., owner of the plane. Schneider was an instructor at the school. The bodies of the two men were taken to Floyd Bennett Field pending funeral arrangements. Schneider first gained public attention as a flier in the Summer of 1930 when he announced plans for an attempt to break the junior transcontinental east-west record of 34 hours 57 minutes set the year before by 15-year-old Frank Goldsborough, who was later killed. Taking off from Westfield, New Jersey, August 14, he landed at Los Angeles four days later with a new elapsed time mark of 29 hours 55 minutes. He then flew the west-east passage in 27 hours 19 minutes to better Goldsborough's time for that flight and also for the round trip. He continued active in aviation, competing in National Air Tours, races, and as an instructor. He went to Spain in 1936 to fly for the Loyalists, but returned the next year without having collected the $1,500-a-month pay that was promised him. He and other American fliers were looked on with suspicion by many of the Loyalists, he said, because they were not Communists. Schneider had a narrow escape from death May 15, 1935, when the engine of his training plane failed and it fell into Newark Bay with him and a student passenger shortly after they had taken off from Jersey City Airport, of which he then was manager. Schneider's father, Emil, a Jersey City banker, financed his son's transcontinental flight after having first opposed his efforts to become a flier. The boy had quit school at 15 and worked as a mechanic at Roosevelt Field, Mineola, Long Island, and at the Westfield airport to secure money for flying lessons. He was the youngest licensed flier in the country when he received a limited commercial license shortly after his eighteenth birthday in 1929.

General John A. Logan

General John A. Logan

General John A Logan

John Alexander Logan (February 8, 1826 – December 26, 1886), was an American soldier and political leader. He served in the Mexican War and was a general in the Union Army in the American Civil War. He served the state of Illinois as a Senator and was an unsuccessful candidate for Vice President of the United States.

Logan was born in what is now Murphysboro, Jackson County, Illinois. He had no schooling until age 14; he then studied for three years at Shiloh College, served in the Mexican War as a second lieutenant in the 1st Illinois Infantry, studied law in the office of an uncle, graduated from the Law Department of the University of Louisville in 1851, and practiced law with success.

Logan entered politics as a Douglas Democrat, was elected county clerk in 1849, served in the State House of Representatives from 1853 to 1854 and in 1857; and for a time, during the interval, was prosecuting attorney of the Third Judicial District of Illinois. In 1858 and 1860 he was elected as a Democrat to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Logan fought at Bull Run as an unattached volunteer to a Michigan regiment, and then returned to Washington, resigned his congressional seat, and entered the Union army as Colonel of the 31st Illinois Volunteers, which he organized. He was known by his soldiers with the nickname "Black Jack" because of his black eyes and hair and swarthy complexion, and was regarded as one of the most able officers to enter the army from civilian life. He served in the army of Ulysses S. Grant in the Western Theater and was present at the Battle of Belmont, where his horse was killed, and at Fort Donelson, where he was wounded. Soon after the victory at Donelson, he was promoted to brigadier general, as of March 21, 1862. Major John Hotaling served as his chief of staff. During the Siege of Corinth, Logan commanded first a brigade and then the 1st Division of the Army of the Tennessee. In the spring of 1863 he was promoted to major general to rank from November 29, 1862.

In Grant's Vicksburg Campaign, Logan commanded the 3rd Division of James B. McPherson's XVII Corps, which was the first to enter the city of Vicksburg in 1863, and after its capture, Logan served as its military governor. He received the Medal of Honor for the Vicksburg campaign. In November 1863 he succeeded William Tecumseh Sherman in command of the XV Corps; and after the death of McPherson he commanded the Army of the Tennessee at the Battle of Atlanta (July 22, 1864) until relieved by Oliver O. Howard. He returned to Illinois for the 1864 elections but rejoined the army afterwards and commanded his XV corps in the Carolinas Campaign.

In December 1864, Grant became impatient with George H. Thomas's performance at Nashville and sent Logan to relieve him. Logan was stopped in Louisville when news came that Thomas had completely smashed John Bell Hood's Confederate army in the Battle of Nashville.

After the war, Logan resumed his political career as a Republican, and was a member of the National House of Representatives from 1867 to 1871, and of the United States Senate from 1871 until 1877, and again from 1879 until his death in 1886. He lay in state in the United States Capitol and lies buried at U.S. Soldiers' and Airmen's Home National Cemetery.

Logan was always a violent partisan, and was identified with the radical wing of the Republican Party. His forceful, passionate speaking, popular on the platform, was less effective in the halls of legislation. In 1868 he was one of the managers in the impeachment of President Andrew Johnson. His war record and his great personal following, especially in the Grand Army of the Republic, contributed to his nomination for Vice President in 1884 on the ticket with James G. Blaine, but he was not elected. For this campaign, he commissioned the painting of the Atlanta Cyclorama, which emphasized his heroism in the Battle of Atlanta. He was active in veterans' affairs and helped lead the call for creation of Memorial Day as a national public holiday.

Logan was the author of The Great Conspiracy: Its Origin and History (1886), a partisan account of the Civil War, and of The Volunteer Soldier of America (1887). The state of Illinois commissioned an equine statue of the general that now stands in Chicago's Grant Park. Another equine statue stands in Logan Circle in Washington, D.C. A square in Chicago, Logan Square, is named after him, as is the town of Logan Township, New Jersey. His hometown, Murphysboro, Illinois, is home to the Logan Museum. And in nearby Carterville, Illinois, there is John A. Logan Community College.

Notes
^ Some biographies of Logan mention the Medal of Honor, in some cases for Vicksburg, others for Meritorious Service. The official Army listing of Civil War recipients does not include John A. Logan. However, John A. Logan does appear in the list of medal recipients for the Philippine-American War. This officer, born in Carbondale, I

Dude. Seriously?

Dude. Seriously?

We went to a political function on Saturday night, and heard our Congressman and State Attorney General Speak. It was cool. We have a friend running for a very important county level office and we went to show our support for him.

ANYway....

They had this cardboard cutout of Obama.

I cannot even BEGIN to tell you how completely fucked up I thought this was.
Totally stupid. Completely totally fucking stupid.
Get the idea?

At the end of the night, there were people LINING UP to take their picture with the cardboard Obama.
Fucking getting in line, and taking cheesy ass pictures with "the next president".

Holy SHIT.

For purposes of full disclosure, Kelly and I are both Obama supporters. This picture and discussion should in no way be taken as a polical statement. I do NOT want to hear your polical views right now.
This is about how stupid people are.

So I can't stand it anymore and decide that I'm going to lick Obama.

Kelly joins in and we give a wet-willie and some bunny ears.
Funny stuff.
People are laughing, it's all in fun.

Until Crazy Lady comes along and gives Kelly the go-to-hell look, TAKES OBAMA UNDER HER ARM (that's fucking funny dude!) and stomps off saying "that'll be enough of THAT".

She takes the fine gentleman from Illinois to another part of the room, where a few more people start taking pictures so they can tell their grandkids they met Obama.

I let a couple minutes pass, but then approach her and here is the entire ensuing conversation:

Me: Excuse me, I'm sorry if we offended you (pause)
Crazy Lady: Well you did, I...
Me: but you do realize he's made out of CARDBOARD, right?

Crazy Lady: ugh, um, uh, yeah, but but
Me: no but, he's cardboard.

C.L.: but what you were doing was Sacrilegious!
Me: WHOA - wait just a minute. He's a senator who is running for president, and by the way, he's cardboard. It has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with religion.

A rare occurrence...

A rare occurrence...

Snow in our little town isn't so rare. We get a few flakes each year and occcassionally they hang around for a few hours. But February 12, 2010 was unique and indeed rare. Snow started falling before sunrise the previous day and didn't stop until after sunrise the next morning. I took this image around 7:30am. Using a ruler, I measured the depth at several locations across town and came up with an average of 7 inches.

Now, please don't make fun of my amazement of 7 inches of snow :) - I know there are plenty of places that would consider 7 inches a "light dusting". For us, however, the winters have gotten so that we just don't have snow. Over the past 20 years I remember this happening once. When I was a little boy, this happened two to three times each year - a kid could count on a little snow. But about the time I grew up, the snow stopped.

Hundreds of snowmen came to life that day. A few at our house. My kids had a blast!

This image is of the front of the Morrison Law Firm facing the courthouse square in Athens, TX. - south side of square. The footsteps seen were from several hours earlier, and have slightly filled back up with snow.

ANOTHER CHICAGO SCUMBAG LABOR LEADER SHOWING 'EM HOW IT'S DONE.....MEET DENNIS GANNON

ANOTHER CHICAGO SCUMBAG LABOR LEADER SHOWING 'EM HOW IT'S DONE.....MEET DENNIS GANNON

By Jason Grotto, Tribune reporter

9:00 p.m. CDT, September 21, 2011
Most city workers spend decades in public service to build up modest pensions. But for former labor leader Dennis Gannon, the keys to securing a public pension were one day on the city payroll and some help from the Daley administration.

And his city pension is more than modest. It's the highest of any retired union leader: $158,000. That's roughly five times greater than what the typical retired city worker receives.

In fact, his pension is so high that it exceeds federal limits and required the city pension fund to file special paperwork with the Internal Revenue Service to give it to him.

Gannon's inflated pension is a prime example of how government officials and labor leaders have manipulated city pension funds at the expense of union workers and taxpayers. Like other labor leaders, he was able to take a long leave from a city job to work for a union and then receive a city pension based on a high union salary.

But in a new twist, a Tribune/WGN-TV investigation has found that Gannon is eligible for the lucrative pension deal only because City Hall rehired the former Streets and Sanitation Department worker for a single day in 1994, then granted him an indefinite leave of absence.

Gannon quickly rose to become one of the most powerful labor leaders in the city, speaking on behalf of more than 300 Chicago-area unions as president of the Chicago Federation of Labor.

State law allowed Gannon to retire from the city in 2004, the year he turned 50; since then, he has received about $1 million from his city pension. He stands to collect approximately $5 million during his lifetime, according to an analysis based on the fund's actuarial assumptions.

Until last year, that pension came on top of Gannon's union salary, which had grown to more than $240,000. He now draws the pension while working for a hedge fund, Grosvenor Capital Management, that does work with public pensions, including the Teachers Retirement System of Illinois. The firm also was one of Mayor Rahm Emanuel's largest campaign contributors.

Gannon declined to be interviewed for this story but issued a statement through a spokesman for the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority, where he is a board member.

"I am extremely proud of my many years of service to the city of Chicago and the working men and women of organized labor," Gannon wrote. "I have always followed the pension laws governed by the state of Illinois statute as well as the city of Chicago municipal pension plan."

Terrance Stefanski, who oversees the city's municipal pension fund, confirmed that the city helped Gannon qualify for an inflated pension by hiring him for a day. But he said he has no control over city hiring and must follow the pension laws.

"Once the city rehired him and he went on a leave of absence to work for the union, he was eligible under the law," Stefanski said.

Streets and San officials provided a statement about Gannon's one-day hiring: "This was a personnel matter that happened more than 16 years ago, and at this time we don't have all of the details needed to determine exactly why these decisions were made."

Gannon's inflated city pension is one of at least 23 handed out to union leaders who have retired from the city, records uncovered by the Tribune and WGN-TV show. The joint investigation revealed Wednesday how the legislation that created the pension perk for union leaders found its way in to the state statutes with no transparency or accountability.

From Lake Michigan

From Lake Michigan

I've never seen a metropolis with such beauty literally running (in the form of a river) through the center. I'm getting settled in a little bit at law school now, this week being orientation. As a treat for us, a big NYC law firm paid for a beautiful boat ride through the Chicago River and out onto Lake Michigan. This is the view from the lake, made all the more difficult by the vertical motion of the surf and the horizontal motion of the moving boat. Hopefully it came out alright; I tried to do justice to this absolutely breathaking scene.

Multan to Milpitas:)1.A

Multan to Milpitas:)1.A

Urdu Title: Multan(Pakistan) se Milpitas (United States of America)Tak
Once upon a time there was a little girl. She was the first child of her family they named her Bushra until 4th grade she thought family was happy at her birth so they gave her name Bushra .
What happened to her in 4th grade????;)
Now you know that little girl was/is me
Once I was sick and went to see a doctor was so nice he asked her, I can tell you have brother after you." I said yes not one but two bros:p And (he continued) you are the third girl of family???(RIGHT?) I eed NO! NO! Here you are wrong I am the first child and only daughter before my twin brothers. Wow he said, "So your family was tired of first girl:~O??? I asked why do you think like this. He said usually people gave their third daughter name Bushra because they think if they named her Bushra they will have a boy after her. I said no no I was first child and good news for them:D He said ok go and ask your mother when I asked my mom she said he was right when I gave you birth your grad mother was so sad as she wished for her son to have a son as his first child so midwife who was really nice asked them to name me Bushra saying InshaAllah you will have boy after her.
I felt little sad not mad at all but decide I will be like my father if he is a lawyer I will show whim I can be a lawyer too because may be he is thinking I can not do what a boy can do.My second choice was to be a teacher I teach son of our maid when I was in 4th grade.
I want to admit one thing other then this in our family there is no discrimination for girls. Usually in Pakistan they ask the girls to obey their brothers even they are younger then them but in our family my mother always said and warn my brothers to be polite and nice with sisters.
My childhood was full of joy and thrill. I organized first & last cricket team of girls in our neighborhood and had many matches with boys team. That’s another thing we lost all the matches. AND end up fighting with boys(freestyle wrestling) Then my brother Muddasir asked me to join my team. I said but I will be the captain? He said no, no I am not after your captain ship I just want to join your team just give one of your girl to boys team. What have he done was a brave step from a *boy* kids were laughing at him he is going to play under the captaincy of a girl/his sister but yes we won that match and he was the man of the match :D
After that he talked to me and said see boys and girls were going to be enemy of each other and now if each team will have both they will not fight. Good scheme for peace in neighborhood. We were in primary school at that time you can imagine even kids can think about how to resolve conflicts;)
That was a golden time we were 4(at that time now we are 8) and other neighbors were 8 brothers and sister 6 of them about our ages (two twin sets were there too:D)
****************************************************************************************************************
Special thanks to Mateo(Robert) I have learn from him how to move pictures up;-)) I think I gave him hard time as have hard time to understand well but the end goes well, in several attempts I was able to do it :DI always thought about him as 16 or 17 years old boy and some times think oh he is Show the Best group which belongs to over 18 and now seeing his picture at age of 35, I am just kind of shocked :D:D:D

227/365 - I want a lawyer!

10Nov10

Me and my friend (who is staying with me at the moment) went out in Copenhagen to get some pictures. He has just returned from Iceland where he has stayed for the last couple of months. We realized when we arrived in the center of town that it was already darkening and there wasn't much available light - bummer... Anyways, we walked a bit around till it began to rain - double bummer! So we went home... But before that, we came by this suited guy who was standing around smoking. I saw a great portrait in this, so I asked him if I could take a picture. It turned out that he was a lawyer when I spoke to him afterwards - he kindda looks that way too, don't you think so? ;) Later that night I sent him the processed picture as he had asked for it.

Charles Evans Cemetery HDR

Charles Evans Cemetery HDR

The most prominent architectural feature of the Charles Evans Cemetery is the sandstone Entrance Way which adorns the main access along Centre Avenue. Completed in 1852, this impressive structure reflects the Gothic Revival style which was popular at that time. Located immediately north of the main entrance gate, the Tudor-style office building was constructed in 1927. It provides space for administrative staff, the secure storage of records and an appropriate setting to discuss the services offered by the Cemetery.

A Crematorium, Chapel and Columbarium are all housed in a handsome Italianate-style structure situated in the eastern portion of the Charles Evans Cemetery, in the vicinity of Perry Street. Added in 1939, this building features a stately bell tower, a majestic bronze entrance door and artistically designed windows. The impressive Chapel is available for quiet meditation or for services during inclement weather when graveside attendance is impractical. To the side of the Chapel is the Columbarium, where memorial urns find an everlasting resting place, safe from the elements. Imperishable bronze niches of various sizes are available for individual or family use. The original cremation chambers were replaced in 1994, utilizing the latest technological advancements. The Chapel Garden Mausoleum was added in 1981. These two free-standing structures provide granite-faced crypts and niches for above-ground interment. We have also added new niche walls on the north side of the Crematorium, Chapel and Columbarium building.

The Cemetery was founded in 1846 by Charles Evans, a prominent local lawyer and philanthropist who desired to establish a nonsectarian cemetery where the friends and relatives of those departed might linger and meditate. Employing unusual vision, Charles Evans selected and purchased 25 acres of land on a prominent hilltop situated, at that time, a mile outside the City limits. It was to be for all people of Reading, a dignified place of interment where natural beauty would be preserved and enhanced with the years. He provided money for a Trust Fund to be used solely for the purpose of making the Cemetery even more beautiful with the passing years - to provide perpetual maintenance of its buildings, trees, shrubbery and spacious lawns.

Shot with a 9-18mm m Zuiko lens.

Hutcheson's Hall

According to the interweb,

"George and Thomas Hutcheson, two Glasgow lawyers, left funds in trust to build a school for poor boys and a hospice for old men which was given the name Hutcheson's Hospital.

Originally located at the Trongate in Glasgow, a new building was built on Ingram Street in 1805 by David Hamilton and incorporates statues of the brothers taken from the original building, which were carved by James Colquhoun in 1649. The first floor hall was the work of John Baird in 1876.

Hutcheson's Hall is maintained by the National Trust for Scotland."
