Body Drama: Real Girls, Real Bodies, Real Issues, Real Answers “You’d think a Miss America swimsuit winner would feel completely confident about her body, right? Not always! So I decided to write the book I wish I’d had as a teen and in college— an honest, funny, practical, medically accurate, totally reassuring guide to how women’s bodies actually look, smell, feel, behave, and change. Alongside real-deal photographs of women just like you and me (no airbrushing, no supermodels, no kidding) you’ll find medical pictures of things you need to be able to recognize, true confessions by yours truly, and the encouragement you need to appreciate the uniqueness, strength, and beauty of your body. What are you waiting for?” –Nancy Redd From fashion magazines to taboo Web sites, curious young women have access to tons of old wives’ tales about and thousands of airbrushed and inaccurate images of the female body—misinformation and harmful portrayals that can lead to low self-esteem, self-destructive acts, or even disturbing plastic surgery procedures. Teaming up with a leading physician specializing in adolescent health issues, Harvard graduate and former Miss Virginia Nancy Redd now offers a down-to-earth, healing, and reassuring response to those damaging myths. In Body Drama, Redd gives girls insight into the issues they’re often too ashamed to raise with a doctor or parent. She also reveals her own experiences with the culture of “American beauty,” and shows readers all the many versions of “normal.” From body hair and bras, to acne and weight issues, along with crucial issues such as the importance of a healthy self image, Body Drama is a groundbreaking book packed with informative fast facts, FYIs, how-tos, and moving personal anecdotes as well as hundreds of un-retouched photographs. A highly visual book, it’s the first of its kind for women: filled with real information and real photographs of real bodies, to celebrate all our different shapes and sizes. Named by Glamour magazine as one of America’s top-ten college women “most likely to succeed—at anything,” Redd has spent the most recent years of her life on a mission to tackle the issues least discussed but most significant in young women’s lives. Celebrating the many versions of “normal,” and replacing seriously erroneous information with the honest, medically proven truth in a language all girls can understand, Body Drama dares to empower a new generation—with facts instead of fantasies, and the priceless gift of self-knowledge. 77% (11) Baby Girl I dont have a studio. When I got home from work the neighborhood kids brought over this half-cold gray kitten in a shoebox with some old shorts in it. Thankfully I was able to make it to the pet store and get some KMR kitten formula right away and she was an excellent nurser! I remember she was nursing the bottle through the carrier bars when I was bringing her to her foster home. She ended up going up for adoption at the Manhattan Cat Show and was on the news (tv)! But at that point the foster parent had fallen in love with her and she stayed with that household -- and now here she is! After having adopted out so many cats that I only do one or two follow-up calls on to make sure everything's okay, it's really nice to see a cat you rescued be happy in a home years later! Hope it is pleasing on your monitor.) I am supposed to be coming up with names for an anti-wrinkle skin care product this morning. Big plastic baby bottle. Baby childrens clothes. Graco baby doll high chair. Big Plastic Baby Bottle
Day 8 Another load of stuff I can live without! Clockwise from bottom left: Sunday I spent the entire morning going through my wardrobe, sorting out clothes that were too big, didn’t suit me or that I’d never wear. These are just 2 pairs of trousers that are now swimming on me. I have lost 23 lbs since the end of October and all my trousers are now much too big on the top of the legs and hips, and billow on me. So, rather than hang on to them for posterity, ‘just in case’ I ever put the weight back on, they’re off to Oxfam. I don’t intend putting the weight back on ever again but if I do I’ll go to Oxfam and buy some! In all I found 6 pairs of trousers, 5 skirts, 2 brand new dresses and about 10 tops that I wasn’t going to wear again, plus 2 pairs of shoes and 2 jackets. These will all be off to Oxfam soon. A purple and white checked washbag, that has been sitting in a cupboard in our bathroom since…. I don’t know when. It was probably there because I intended to use it on a holiday, but bought another one instead and this just got forgotten. There were also some nail polish remover wipes in it: I bite my nails so don’t use nail polish, so heaven only knows where they came from! Off to the jumble sale with both of them. Sorted out a load of clothes hangers too , the type they give you when you buy a garment from a shop. Horrible, poky black ones. So off to the jumble sale they will go, where they will be used to hang up clothes on the clothes rail, then get stored away for the next one! I also sorted out a kitchen cupboard, the one where all the plastic containers get shoved in. Containers without lids, lids without matching containers – these are all excess to my needs. I tidied the cupboard up and there’s now a lot more space in there now that all the containers are neatly stacked (with their lids on). These few will go off to the jumble sale. I finally emptied the shredder, and this is a bag of shredded paper, envelopes etc. that came from it. This has gone in the paper recycling bag that gets picked up tomorrow. Next to that, in the Asda bag, is a load of ….. plastic bags! I try not to collect these when I go food shopping, but today I went on the spur of the moment and didn’t have my shopping bags with me, so had to use their plastic bags. I also have a few more that we got from clothes shops and other various shops. These will all go to the jumble sale at the beginning of next month. It’s surprising how many people will go to a sale like that and not take anything to put their purchases in, so they will get used. A blue CD box full of ‘bits’…. nothing very exciting – a couple of baby bottle teats, a couple of shoe shine freebies from our timeshare toiletries bag, a pack of fabric dye fixer…. bits that you tend to accumulate but don’t know what to do with! Off to the jumble sale – they will be sold off at 10p a go. Half a dozen kids’ books. These were my daughter’s when she was about 11 – she’s now 23! They’ve been up in the attic, she doesn’t want them and we don’t really know any children that would read them, so I’ll take them to Oxfam. A few more CDs that were freebies with magazines and newspapers that we won’t use. I’ll take these to the bank when I go again, they are collecting them on behalf of one of our childrens’ TV programmes for an appeal. And finally – weigh in day today at my slimming club. Lost another half pound of ugly fat! Good riddance! Only another 2 days to go, and I still haven’t touched my craft room!!! Reckon I could find 100 things in there alone! I also have a food cupboard to do. I can’t get the doors shut today so I think it might be next on the list! He's So Delicate For A Little Boy.... .........oh he is definitely a Mama's boy. He loves his Mama...me....so very much. Here he is standing on the chair and reaching his head around to investigate and see how the bush tastes. He doesn't eat this bush at all. He is so picky and still prefers dog food, which I try to keep from him. The vet says a tiny bit won't hurt him. Casper and I sit out in the front yard and he jumps and plays. He thinks he owns the four adirondak plastic chairs that sit in my front yard. He has a favorite one and I sit next to him. He used to stand on his chair to take his baby bottle but now it is gone before we even get to the chairs. I swear he would keep gulping those down one after another. This was taken on March 18 and never posted. He's bigger and fatter now and his horns are really growing in...but he's still quite a big baby. He was found dead about 10:45 A.M. in his suite in the Hotel Elysee on East 54th Street. Officials said that death was due to natural causes, and that he had been under treatment for heart disease. An autopsy is scheduled for today. Author of more than 24 full-length plays, including ''The Glass Menagerie,'' ''A Streetcar Named Desire,'' ''Cat on a Hot Tin Roof'' - Tennessee Williams was the most important American playwright after Eugene O'Neill. The latter two won Pulitzer Prizes - and ''The Night of the Iguana,'' he had a profound effect on the American theater and on American playwrights and actors. He wrote with deep sympathy and expansive humor about outcasts in our society. Though his images were often violent, he was a poet of the human heart. His works, which are among the most popular plays of our time, continue to provide a rich reservoir of acting challenges. Among the actors celebrated in Williams roles were Laurette Taylor in ''The Glass Menagerie''; Marlon Brando and Jessica Tandy in ''A Streetcar Named Desire'' (and Vivien Leigh in the movie version), and Burl Ives in ''Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.'' ''The Glass Menagerie,'' his first success, was his ''memory play.'' Many of his other plays were his nightmares. Although seldom intentionally autobiographical, the plays were almost all intensely personal -torn from his own private anguishes and anxieties. He once described his sister's room in the family home in St. Louis, with her collection of glass figures, as representing ''all the softest emotions that belong to recollection of things past.'' But, he remembered, outside the room was an alley in which, nightly, dogs destroyed cats. Mr. Williams's work, which was unequaled in passion and imagination by any of his contemporaries' works, was a barrage of conflicts, of the blackest horrors offset by purity. Perhaps his greatest character, Blanche Du Bois, the heroine of ''Streetcar,'' has been described as a tigress and a moth, and, as Mr. Williams created her, there was no contradiction. His basic premise, he said, was ''the need for understanding and tenderness and fortitude among individuals trapped by circumstance.'' Just as his work reflected his life, his life reflected his work. A monumental hypochondriac, he became obsessed with sickness, failure and death. Several times he thought he was losing his sight, and he had four eye operations for cataracts. Constantly he thought his heart would stop beating. In desperation, he drank and took pills immoderately. He was a man of great shyness, but with friends he showed great openness, which often worked to his disadvantage. He was extremely vulnerable to demands - from directors, actresses, the public, his critics, admirers and detractors. He feigned disinterest in reviews, but he was deeply disturbed by them. Unfavorable ones could devastate him. Favorable ones might corrupt him. The most successful serious playwright of his time, he did not write for success but, as one friend said, as a ''biological necessity.'' Success struck him suddenly in 1945, with the Broadway premiere of ''The Glass Menagerie,'' and it frightened him much more than his failure. He was born as Thomas Lanier Williams in Columbus, Miss., on March 26, 1911. His mother, the former Edwina Dakin, was the puritanical daughter of an Episcopal rector. His father, Cornelius Coffin Williams, was a violent and aggressive traveling salesman who later settled down in St. Louis as manager of a show company. There was an older daughter, Rose (memorialized as Laura in ''the Glass Menagerie''), and in 1919 another son was born, Walter Dakin. ''It was just a wrong marriage,'' the playwright wrote. The familial conflict is made clear by instances from the son's art. His mother was the model for the foolish but indomitable Amanda Wingfield in ''The Glass Menagerie,'' his father for the blustering, brutish Big Daddy in ''Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.'' While his father traveled, Tom was mostly brought up, and overprotected, by his mother - particularly after he contracted diphtheria at the age of 5. By the time the family moved to St. Louis, the pattern was clear. Young Tom retreated into himself. He made up and told stories, many of them scary. In the fall of 1929 he went off to the University of Missouri to study journalism. When his childhood girlfriend, Hazel Kramer, also decided to enroll at Missouri, his father said he would withdraw him, and succeeded in breaking up the incipient romance. It was his only known romantic relationship with a woman. In a state of depression, Tom dropped out of school and, at his father's instigation, took a job as a clerk in a shoe company. It was, he recalled, ''living death.'' To survive, every day after work he retreated to his roo Eddie Albert Grave Brother Rat (1938) On Your Toes (1939) Four Wives (1939) Brother Rat and a Baby (1940) An Angel from Texas (1940) My Love Came Back (1940) A Dispatch from Reuters (1940) The Great Mr. Nobody (1941) Four Mothers (1941) The Wagons Roll at Night (1941) Thieves Fall Out (1941) Out of the Fog (1941) Treat 'Em Rough (1942) Eagle Squadron (1942) Lady Bodyguard (1943) Ladies' Day (1943) Bombardier (1943) Screen Snapshots: Hollywood in Uniform (1943) (short subject) Strange Voyage (1946) Rendezvous with Annie (1946) The Perfect Marriage (1947) Hit Parade of 1947 (1947) Smash-Up: The Story of a Woman (1947) Time Out of Mind (1947) Unconquered (1947) (scenes deleted) The Dude Goes West (1948) You Gotta Stay Happy (1948) Every Girl Should Be Married (1948) (cameo) The Fuller Brush Girl (1950) You're in the Navy Now (1951) Meet Me After the Show (1951) Actors and Sin (1952) Carrie (1952) Roman Holiday (1953) The Girl Rush (1955) Oklahoma! The perfect holiday gift for every Reba fan. Reba: Season 2 stays the course set in the first season, with sitcom star (and country music legend) Reba McEntire playing a divorced mom (named Reba Hart) trying to get her bearings after her dentist husband, Brock (Christopher Hart), leaves her to take up with his simple but sweet-natured hygenist, Barbra Jean (Melissa Peterman). That's still only part of the heroine's troubles. Her 17-year-old daughter, Cheyenne (Joanna Garcia), and the latter's teenage husband, Van (Steve Howey), are living in Reba's house with their infant, while Reba's younger daughter Kyra (Scarlett Pomers) is maturing at an unnerving clip and son Jake (Mitch Holleman) frequently loses out when it comes to mom's attention. None of that is as crazy-making, however, as Barbra Jean's naive overtures to Reba for sisterly friendship--when the new Mrs. Hart and Brock move into a house near Reba's, Barbra Jean can't wait to visit Brock's ex-wife often. Very often. With these new and reconfigured relationships fixed in place, the dust is settling in season 2. Now comes the really hard part: pinching pennies while trying to teach the profligate, clueless Cheyenne and Van that they don't have the scratch to get an apartment or spend money on non-essentials. Or interviewing for jobs for which Reba clearly has no experience. Or trying to hold onto Kyra's loyalty when what the girl wants is more of dad. The seriousness of these running issues speaks for itself, forming a strong foundation for a show whose humor is understandably biting without being off-putting. McEntire and the rest of the cast are consistently strong and funny, while Peterman continues to stand out in her somewhat broader performance. (Peterman's comic assuredness sometimes reminds one of Lucille Ball.) Lots of life lessons in this show, but a lot of disciplined if gentle comedy as well. --Tom Keogh Similar posts: information on baby how to determine baby gender cry baby cry lyrics baby boy camo clothes baby booties clip art pregnant with 5 babies baby names from a baby vaccination average baby temperature |
Stop a crying baby - Baby shower thank you card message. Stop A Crying Baby
Baby Bird Oh My Heart.... this precious baby bird had fallen from it's nest and I happened upon it during my lunch hour... being very concerned for it, I couldn't just walk away and "hope for the best"... so I called my friend who works at a vet clinic... she informed me that the Wild Bird Store over in the Marigold Shopping Center takes in rescues much like this one... so, since I was leaving work early anyway... I thought I'd leave an extra 1/2 an hour early to take it there; this with the hopes that they could feed it and eventually set it free. Well, as I was sitting at my desk, I kept the baby within eyesight so I could make sure it was comfy and safe... I noticed it's breathing changed dramatically so I informed my supervisor that I needed to get the bird to the rescue people quicky... I was worried. So I log out of my computer and then go over and swipe my timecard, I come back to pick up my purse and the box with baby bird and notice that baby bird had stopped breathing and moving... my little baby bird passed away before I could get it to the people to help. :(( Needless to say... I cried... I tried to a do a good deed for such a tiny creature who could not help itself... but I was too late. I hurt. :( Cry Baby This photo won first place in the 2008 Black Walnut Festival photo show. so, I just returned from my trip to NYC, after spending last night in an airport due to delayed flights causing me to miss a connecting flight, I'm just glad I am home again. I'm off work this week. WOOHOO! On my way home from the airport I made a quick stop at my local camera store that cost me about $400 I got a Canon EF Lens that's 50mm f/1.8 and also a protective filter, and a Canon BG-E2N Battery grip for my 40D and also a new battery. This is a test shot I got today with the new f/1.8 just bask in the DoF goodness. I recommend this lens to ANYBODY that shoots Canon, it's only $90! Baby Sleep I think this music is intended for adults, though the photo on the cover is of a sleeping baby. In any event, Schumann's work, Scenes From Childhood, Op. 15, featured here is more likely to bolt you out of bed than put you to sleep, as the mike is far too close to the piano being played by Cyprien Katsaris. Purcell's Adagio from The Indian Queen is magnificent, performed by John Elliott Gardiner and the English Baroque Soloists. The Weird Award goes to triple harpist Tim Hobrough and lutenist Stephen Barber for their bizarre, spiky rendition of Minuets Nos. 4 and 5 from the Notebook of Anna Magdalena Bach. I would like to meet Bill Holland, producer of all these Atlantic Records classical compilations. He's programmed Satie's Gymnopedie No. 1 on three different CDs, billed alternately as sensuous, romantic, and now here: good for a long snooze. --Gwendolyn Freed 88% (5) Butterfly "Butterfly" by Crazy Town Come my lady Come come my lady you're my butterfly Sugar.baby Come my lady Come come my lady you're my butterfly Sugar.baby Such a sexy, sexy pretty little thing Fierce nipple pierce you got me sprung with your tongue ring and I ain't gonna lie cause your loving gets me high So to keep you by my side there's nothing that I won't try Butterflies in her eyes and looks to kill Time is passing I'm asking could this be real Cause I can't sleep I can't hold still The only thing I really know is she got sex appeal I can feel too much is never enough You're always there to lift me up When these times get rough I was lost Now I'm found Ever since you've been around You're the women that I want So yo, I'm putting it down. The soothing sounds of the glockenspiel, vibraphone, mellotron and other instruments will lull your baby into a sweet slumber. If it's timeless you're looking for, you don't have to look much further than Ireland's legendary heroes U2. Their cascading melodies and soundscapes are a perfect foundation for these heavenly lullabies. Introducing your little one to this unforgettable music is the sweetest thing you can do. If you've been operating under the impression that songs with the word "bloody" in the title can't make for good lullabies, guess again: given the Baby Rock treatment, "Sunday Bloody Sunday" sounds infant-tested, sandman-approved. And, more important, not even the tiniest bit absurd. With their glockenspiels, vibraphones, and mellotrons, the Baby Rock magicians have spun sweetness and a soothing vibe into everything from "Smells Like Teen Spirit" to "Stairway to Heaven"; given the unthinkable nature of those undertakings, this one seems almost too easy. "All I Want is You" is a little on the snuggly side to begin with, after all, and so is "The Sweetest Thing." No matter how high the bar is set, what's consistent about this series is its knack for getting eyelids to drooping and rock fans to chuckling: Bono and the Sandman make for strange bedfellows, but entertaining ones. --Tammy La Gorce Similar posts: babies baby gund my first birthday cake playset what will my baby be boy or girl old fashioned baby girl names whole baby food dress up new born babies la baby wicker bassinet baby shower diaper decorations babies 0 12 months best baby games for girls |

Holly was an innovator who wrote his own material and was among the first to exploit such advanced studio techniques as double-tracking. He pioneered and popularized the now-standard rock-band lineup of two guitars, bass and drums. In his final months, he even began experimenting with orchestration. Holly’s catalog of songs includes such standards of the rock and roll canon as “Rave On,” “Peggy Sue,” “That’ll Be the Day,” Oh Boy!” and “Maybe Baby.” Though Holly lacked the arresting sexuality of Elvis Presley, he nonetheless cut an engaging, charismatic figure with his trademark horn-rimmed glasses and vocal hiccup. His creative self-reliance and energetic, inspired craftsmanship prefigured the coming wave of rock and rollers in the Sixties. Holly was a professed influence on the Beatles and Hollies (both of whom derived their names from his). Even the Rolling Stones had their first major British hit with Holly’s “Not Fade Away.” He was born Charles Hardin Holley (later amended to “Holly") on September 7th, 1936, in Lubbock, Texas. He learned to play guitar, piano and fiddle at an early age. After high school, he formed the Western and Bop Band, a country-oriented act that performed regularly on a Lubbock radio station and opened for acts that came through town. After being noticed by a talent scout, Holly was signed to Decca in early 1956, recording demos and singles for the label in Nashville under the name Buddy Holly and the Three Tunes. Back home, Holly opened a show at the Lubbock Youth Center for Elvis Presley, an event that hastened his conversion from country and western to rock and roll. ("We owe it all to Elvis,” he later said). On February 25th, 1957, Holly and a revised band lineup, now dubbed the Crickets, recorded “That’ll Be the Day” at the Clovis, New Mexico, studio of producer Norman Petty. The effortless, upbeat rocker won them a contract with the Coral and Brunswick labels. Later that year it became a Number One pop hit and even rose to Number Two on the R&B charts. The terms of Holly’s arrangement with his record labels, negotiated by producer/manager Petty, were somewhat unusual. Releases alternated on Coral and Brunswick, with those on the former label credited to Buddy Holly and the latter to the Crickets. Between August 1957 and August 1958, Holly and the Crickets charted seven Top Forty singles. In October 1958, Holly split both with the Crickets and with Petty, moving to Greenwich Village and marrying Maria Elena Santiago, to whom he proposed on their first date. Because of legal and financial problems engendered by his breakup with Petty, Holly reluctantly agreed to perform on the Winter Dance Party, an ill-advised bus tour of the Midwest in the winter of 1959. Following a show in Clear Lake, Iowa, Holly chartered a private plane to the next stop on the tour, Moorhead, Minnesota. Two other performers, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper, joined him. Their plane left the Mason City, Iowa, airport at one in the morning and crashed in a cornfield a few minutes later, killing all aboard. Buddy Holly was only 22 years old at the time of the crash - an event immortalized in Don McLean’s “American Pie” as “the day the music died."” TIMELINE September 7, 1936: Charles Hardin Holley, a.k.a., Buddy Holly, is born in Lubbock, Texas. September 1, 1953: Best friends Buddy (Holly) and Bob (Montgomery) audition for radio station KDAV in Lubbock. Holly impresses a Nashville talent scout, leading to his eventual signing with Decca Records. October 15, 1955: In the process of moving from their country-music origins toward the rockabilly sound, Buddy Holly’s trio open for Elvis Presley in Lubbock. January 9, 1956: Buddy Holly & the Two-Tones (Sonny Curtis and Don Guess) kick off a 14-date country & western tour in Little Rock, Arkansas. They’re bottom-billed on a lineup that includes Hank Thompson, George Jones, Wanda Jackson and Cowboy Copas. January 26, 1956: Signed to Decca Records, Buddy Holly heads to Nashville for his first official recording session. At age 13, her family sold her to a man who forced her into prostitution. At 18, she was arrested and sentenced to death for adultery, while her pimp only paid a fine. In contrast, Shadi Sadr, an Iranian lawyer, was raised with the world at her feet. When small, her parents encouraged her education. As a young adult, she was free to travel and marry a man whom she loved. These women's different fates aren't unusual in Iran, an Islamic republic of 70 million people, where on the same street some women run businesses while others walk anonymously behind their husbands, waiting to speak until given permission. In Iran, women can drive, vote and own property. They also can be legally independent from male relatives -- a status that is rare in the rest of the region, where the male-dominant tenets of Islam and tribal culture often subjugate women. Yet Iran's legal system also codifies traditions that confer second-class status for women. A woman's testimony in court is worth half that of a man's. A girl is considered an adult under the law at age 9, but the age for boys is 13. The laws also deny women equal rights in divorce, custody and inheritance. But Layla's story -- a young woman forced into prostitution and condemned to death for it -- is extraordinary in how it turned out. Her fate changed two years ago, when Ms. Sadr, a crusading lawyer on women's rights in Iran, walked into her cell and saved her. Today, Layla lives in a women's shelter, ready to start a new life at age 22. Her family name is being withheld at the request of the shelter where she lives, for fear that people from her past might seek retribution for telling her story. Layla's ruddy face carries an easy smile, and the sparkle in her walnut brown eyes offers no hint of the harshness of her past. "When I was little, I didn't have any dreams for my life," said Layla. "All my life, people hurt me ... until Shadi came. Now, each day is better than the last." A Persian proverb says: If fate doesn't adjust to you, adjust yourself to fate. It has been used to console women -- and resign them -- to the harsh realities of life in Iran. Ms. Sadr and her colleagues want to banish this proverb from everyday life. Growing up chattel Layla grew up with her parents and two brothers in a three-bedroom home in Arak, an industrial city about 120 miles south of Tehran. She helped her mother around the house, a task that her father told her made it impossible for her to attend school. Her father rarely worked, a situation typical for families in the crime-infested, working-class town. To get money, Layla's parents sold her to a man who they knew wanted to prostitute her, Ms. Sadr and Layla's social workers said. For a father to sell his daughter is legal in Iran if done in the form of a marriage contract. At the age of 13, Layla became the legal wife of her pimp. The cultural and legal traditions of Iran left her no way out. Girls are raised to obey their fathers. Once married, women have to obey their husbands. Judges, no matter the circumstances, usually side with the man in cases related to domestic disputes, said lawyers practicing civil and domestic law. That was Layla's predicament when police arrested her at 18, having survived two pregnancies and the trauma of having to give up both babies. Authorities charged her with prostitution and adultery. While awaiting trial, Layla tried to defend herself against the charges. She told stories of incest at home as a child and physical brutality from her husband. "My whole, life nobody listened to me, no one understood my problems, and no one believed me when I told them the terrible things that had happened. Everybody judged me and thought the sexual abuse was my fault," Layla recalled. When he heard her accusations, the judge decided she was responsible for seducing her brother. He sentenced Layla to death by stoning — the punishment the Koran commands for both adultery and incest. A different life Ms. Sadr, 33, decided to become a lawyer because stories like Layla's were too close for comfort, even for someone with her privileged and independent life. Most university students in Iran are women. Parliament has a small but consistent number of elected female members. Women excel in all fields open to them: the arts, education, business, law. Behind many of these successful women are tales of female relatives whose yearnings were quashed by tradition or religion. For Ms. Sadr, that person was her grandmother, one of the first girls in Iran allowed to attend school in the 1930s, thanks to a decree by the monarch and reformer Reza Shah Pahlavi, who ruled Iran until his abdication in 1941. His son, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, ruled Iran until he was overthrown unusual baby girl name Soft comfortable lining, avoid from the scratches, protect your iphone in better way Listing Key:7767 Brand New, high quality Color and design as the pictuture shows Light Weight, Luxury Design, Adds no bulk to iPhone With Luxury Czech Rhinestone decoration, skidproof and anti-fingerprint Easy to Remove and install Precise openings on the protector case to allow access to all controls and features on the phone. Day 192 wednesday. waiting for news about coline, my friend in sf who is not doing well in the hospital. from what i can the past 2 weeks has been a chain of events roughly like the following: 1. very close to giving birth (kid #2) 2. baby was beginning to get distressed, so they induced. 3. baby ida was born healthy 1 week before due date. she was like 7.5 pounds. 4. three days later coline went to the doctor bc she said her back was hurting and she was feeling sick. 5. she was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia. 6. surgery was required to repair lung damage due to the pneumonia. about 20% of one of her lungs was removed. doctors advised that she may need a new lung; was placed on donor list. 7. tracheotomy performed to help breathing. 8. three days ago, although sedated, she was responsive and taken off the external oxygenation of her blood. now on a ventilator. 9. two days ago she had a hemorrhagic stroke. 10. she also was being monitored for a blood clot that was moving towards her heart. 11. the chaplain was called to talk to all the friends and family that are now living at the hospital. prognosis not good per him. 12. last night she had surgery to install a filter in some vein to prevent blood clots from happening. it actually went well and i talked to bruce and ugi last night after it. so now i am waiting to hear what's next. i wish i was back in sf. Nursery My parents watched Kenzie while I had to go and do fetal monitoring at the hospital today. My mom brought this tree decal that she bought, and we decided it was perfect for the nursery. After I was done with monitoring we went for lunch, then headed over to Land of Nod. I wanted to get a new crib skirt and ended up buying the fitted crib sheet that matched too. My dad raised the crib mattress, and now the room is just about complete. Kenzie got a new Eeyore toy, and Baby got Winnie the Pooh. I really liked how the lighting in the room looked, so decided to snap a couple of photos. I still need to get a new table lamp for the room. I'm using one that was Kenzie's, but the colors are not exactly what I want to use in this room. I just haven't really found a light that I love yet. The big owl print started out in Kenzie's room, but it just went so well with the two small prints and it's so lightweight that it's perfect for above the crib. So as much as I didn't want to expand the owl theme into this room, it happened anyway. Warm Light Warm sunset light reflected in open water on a cold day. warm mist humidifier for baby From legendary frightmaster Stephen King and 3-time Oscar-nominated director Frank Darabont* (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) comes "one of the scariest King films since Stanley Kubrick's The Shining" (Tasha Robinson, The Onion A.V. Club). After a mysterious mist envelopes a small New England town, a group of locals trapped in a supermarket must battle a siege of otherworldly creatures...and the fears that threaten to tear them apart. Starring Thomas Jane (The Punisher) and Oscar winner* Marcia Gay Harden (Mystic River) in one of the year's most talked-about performances, The Mist is riveting, with "tension like an ever-tightening clamp" (Colin Covert, Minneapolis Star Tribune). Writer-director Frank Darabont, who showcased the softer side of Stephen King in his film adaptations of The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, turns to darker material for The Mist, his latest King adaptation about a group of ordinary townspeople trapped in a supermarket by a mysterious fogbank. Thomas Jane is top-billed as a Maine illustrator who attempts to calm the frightened shoppers, but his job is cut out for him from the get-go, first by the discovery of malevolent creatures lurking in the mist, and then by the mad mutterings of Mrs. Carmody (Marcia Gay Harden), a local eccentric who calls for Old Testament-style sacrifices to appease the supernatural forces. Darabont delivers monster movie thrills and understated social commentary with equal skill, and he's well supported by his cast (which includes Andre Braugher, Toby Jones, William Sadler and Jeffrey DeMunn) and the vivid special effects by KNB EFX, which effectively mix CGI with models and stop-motion animation (the terrific monsters were designed by legendary comic book artist Bernie Wrightson). And for those curious about how the novella's downbeat ending has translated to film, suffice it to say that Darabont's conclusion is at once different and more unsettling than King's. --Paul Gaita Similar posts: gerber baby socks baby see n sign antique baby buggy less common baby names natural homemade baby food baby shower invitation poems for boys irish baby girl names graco baby jogger |
Watchmen Babies In V For Vacation - Vitamin D Babies. Watchmen Babies In V For Vacation
Watchmen SOON TO BE A FEATURE FILM! This Hugo Award-winning graphic novel chronicles the fall from grace of a group of super-heroes plagued by all-too-human failings. Along the way, the concept of the super-hero is dissected as the heroes are stalked by an unknown assassin. One of the most influential graphic novels of all time and a perennial bestseller, WATCHMEN has been studied on college campuses across the nation and is considered a gateway title, leading readers to other graphic novels such as V FOR VENDETTA, BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS and THE SANDMAN series. Has any comic been as acclaimed as Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' Watchmen? Possibly only Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, but Watchmen remains the critics' favorite. Why? Because Moore is a better writer, and Watchmen a more complex and dark and literate creation than Miller's fantastic, subversive take on the Batman myth. Moore, renowned for many other of the genre's finest creations (Saga of the Swamp Thing, V for Vendetta, and From Hell, with Eddie Campbell) first put out Watchmen in 12 issues for DC in 1986-87. It won a comic award at the time (the 1987 Jack Kirby Comics Industry Awards for Best Writer/Artist combination) and has continued to gather praise since. The story concerns a group called the Crimebusters and a plot to kill and discredit them. Moore's characterization is as sophisticated as any novel's. Importantly the costumes do not get in the way of the storytelling; rather they allow Moore to investigate issues of power and control--indeed it was Watchmen, and to a lesser extent Dark Knight, that propelled the comic genre forward, making "adult" comics a reality. The artwork of Gibbons (best known for 2000AD's Rogue Trooper and DC's Green Lantern) is very fine too, echoing Moore's paranoid mood perfectly throughout. Packed with symbolism, some of the overlying themes (arms control, nuclear threat, vigilantes) have dated but the intelligent social and political commentary, the structure of the story itself, its intertextuality (chapters appended with excerpts from other "works" and "studies" on Moore's characters, or with excerpts from another comic book being read by a child within the story), the finepace of the writing and its humanity mean that Watchmen more than stands up--it keeps its crown as the best the genre has yet produced. --Mark Thwaite A Q&A with Dave Gibbons on the Making of Watchmen Question: You were tasked with drawing new illustrations of key shots from the new Watchmen film. Was it a difficult challenge to re-imagine your work in this movie format? Dave Gibbons: I don’t think that I actually did many key shots from the film. I had to actually imagine them rather than exactly recreate what was going to be in the movie. But as far as the drawings I did for the licensing purposes, accuracy was the real key so that they looked exactly like the movie. Whereas doing the graphic novel was creating stuff afresh and being very creative, this was more the case of interpreting something that already existed. So it was rather more a commercial art job than a creative thing. Q: How many scenes from the original graphic novel did you redraw in the new "movie" format? DG: I kind of did them piecemeal, these licensing drawings. I did do a section of storyboarding for Zack Snyder. There is a part of the movie that isn’t in the graphic novel and he wanted to see how I would have drawn it, if it had been in the graphic novel. So I redid the storyboards as three pages of comic on the nine-panel grid, also getting it coloured by John Higgins so it looked authentic. But I think there were probably only 3 or 4 scenes that I drew, which were from the movie. Q: What was your working method for producing these new illustrations from the film? And how has it changed from when you originally illustrated Watchmen? DG: When you’re producing things from existing material, you have to look at and assemble the references... you know, keep looking backwards and forwards to make sure what you’re drawing is accurate to what’s in the photos. I did have lots of photos from the movie and in some cases I had more or less the illustration I was going to do in photo form, which made it a lot easier. On others I had to construct it from various references: really just the usual illustrator’s job of drawing something to reference. And on the original illustrations of Watchmen, I was free to come up with exactly the angles and exactly the costumes and everything that I wanted to. When you’ve designed a costume and drawn it a few times, you actually internalize it and you find you can draw it without having to refer to reference at all. So in some ways it’s more creative and in some ways it’s easier! Q: In Watchmen: The Art of the Film, there are concept designs by other artists of their visions of your iconic characters. What do you think of their versions and did you offer any guidance while they were working on these? DG: It’s always really interesting to see versions of your characters drawn by other artists. You tend to see things in them that you hadn’t noticed before. So I really enjoyed looking at those. I certainly didn’t offer them any guidance. The purpose of getting those kinds of drawings done is to get a fresh perspective on what exists. I noticed actually that they really stuck more closely to my original designs than those, but I really enjoyed seeing them. Q: Watchmen: Portraits is Clay Enos’s stunning black and white collection of photos of each character from the Watchmen movie. What was it like looking through this book at all the characters you had conceived years ago now being brought to life by actors? DG: It’s rather interesting; you know if you look at the Watching the Watchmen book you can see these characters as fairly sketchy rough conceptual versions. Then when you look at Clay’s book you can actually see them right down to counting the number of pores on the skin on the end of their noses! It’s incredible high focus! It’s like zooming in through space and time to look at the surface of some moon of Saturn or something. I thoroughly enjoyed his book... it had a real artistic quality to it that was really so good. And of course to see these actors who so much are the embodiment of what I drew, that it’s a tremendous thrill to see them made flesh! Q: Watchmen: The Film Companion features some stills from the animated version of The Black Freighter. What do you think of the look and design of this animated feature? DG: It looks really interesting! Although I drew my version in the comic book in a kind of horror-comic style, these are very much in a savage manga style. I think they work really well... they’ve got the kind of manic intensity, which I think that work should have and I really can’t wait to see the whole feature. I’ve seen the trailer for it and that looks great and again they’ve used a lot of the compositions that I came up with but just translated them to this kind of very modern drawn animation. Q: How much time did you spend on the set of Watchmen? Was it a surreal experience to see your work recreated like this? DG: I was on the set of Watchmen for a couple of days and it really was surreal to walk through a door and then suddenly be in the presence of all these people in living breathing flesh! I was there for what you would call the Crimebusters meeting where they were all there in costume in the same room, which was incredible. They had obviously planned that so I would get to see everyone. It was surreal though quite a wonderful experience to see it come to life. 81% (16) WATCHMEN News! NOTE: when I took this picture I was not finished watchmen babies in v for vacation Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 07/21/2009 Run time: 128 minutes Rating: R Everybody's favorite graphic novel comes to the screen (after years of rumors and false starts), less a roaring work of adaptation than a respectful and faithful take on a radical original. Watchmen is set in the mid-1980s, a time of increased nuclear tension between the United States and the Soviet Union, as Richard Nixon is enjoying his fifth term as president and the world's superheroes have been forcibly retired. (As you can probably tell, the mix of authentic history and alternate reality is heady.) Things begin with a bang: the mysterious high-rise murder of the Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), a masked hero with a checkered past, puts the rest of the retired superhero community on alert. The credits sequence, a series of tableaux that wittily catches us up on crime-fighting backstory, actually turns out to be the high point of the movie. Thereafter we meet the other caped and hooded avengers: the furious Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley), the inexplicably naked Dr. Manhattan (Billy Crudup, amidst much blue-skinned, genital-swinging digital work), Silk Spectre II (Malin Akerman), Nite Owl II (Patrick Wilson), and Ozymandias (Matthew Goode). The corkscrewing storytelling, which worked well in the comic book, gives the movie the strange sense of never quite getting in gear, even as some of the episodes are arresting. Director Zack Snyder (300) doesn't try to approximate the electric impact of the original (written by Alan Moore--who declined to be credited on the movie--and illustrated by Dave Gibbons) but retains careful fidelity to his source material. That doesn't feel right, even with the generally enjoyable roll-out of anecdotes. Even less forgivable is the blah acting, excepting Jeffrey Dean Morgan (lusty) and Patrick Wilson (mellow). Watchmen certainly fills the eyes, although less so the ears: the song choices are regrettable, especially during an embarrassing mid-air coupling between Nite Owl II and Silk Spectre II as they unite their--ah--Roman numerals. In the end it feels as though a huge work of transcription has been successfully completed, which isn't the same as making a full-blooded movie experience. --Robert Horton Also on the Blu-ray disc The extended director's cut restores 24 minutes of connective tissue to the 162-minute film, most significantly the last scene of Hollis Mason, the first Nite Owl. Other elements help restore and fill in details that had been in the graphic novel. Fans of the film will be glad for the extra footage but there's nothing momentous that will change anyone's basic like or dislike of the film. By far the most interesting Blu-ray feature (in addition to the great picture and DTS-HD Master Audio sound) is the Maximum Movie Mode, which incorporates several features into the viewing experience. Director Zack Snyder periodically appears on screen in front of two large monitors, one continuing to play the movie and the other displaying special-effects shots or scenes from the graphic novel. Snyder talks about how he shot the film and points out details in a variety of scenes: the opening with the Comedian, Dr. Manhattan's lab, the Nite Owl ship, Mars, Antarctica, and the ending (and why it was changed for the movie). This feature is much more interesting than an audio commentary or a standard picture-in-picture commentary so it'd be nice if it had been done for more scenes. Also appearing in Maximum Movie Mode is a timeline contrasting events in the Watchmen world with the "real world," occasional picture-in-picture comments by cast and crew, still galleries, and a series of 11 "focus points" that allow you to exit the film to watch these three-minute featurettes (sets, costumes, the Minutemen, etc.). Worthy of mention is how easy the Maximum Movie Mode material is to find: Snyder's footage and the focus points are very visible (even in fast-forward), and you can also access the focus points directly from the main menu. The second disc has three documentaries. The first, "The Phenomenon: The Comic That Changed Comics," 29 min.), looks at the original graphic novel and its themes, and interviews artist Dave Gibbons, DC Comics executives Jenette Kahn and Paul Levitz, and cast and crew, illustrating its points with scenes from the movie, panels from the graphic novel, and parts of the motion comic. The next two are only on the Blu-ray disc but are less interesting and of varying relevance to the movie. "Real Superheroes, Real Vigilantes" (26 min.) examines real-life vigilantes including the Guardian Angels and New York subway gunman Bernard Goetz and compares them to Rorschach. "Mechanics: Technologies of a Future World" (17 min.) spotlights a physicist who served as a consultant on the movie. He talks about his experiences then discusses whether elements from the movie, such as Dr. Manhattan, the Owl Ship, and Rorschach's mask could really work. There's also My Chemical Romance's "Desolation Row" music video , and BD-Live offers even more making-of material. A third disc with a Digital Copy of the film (compatible with both iTunes and Windows Media; download code expires July 21, 2010) was included with early shipments of the Blu-ray disc but is no longer available. --David Horiuchi Similar posts: teddy bear baby shower supplies when do you give a baby water homemade baby shower invites calculate when my baby is due about money baby d can you use bottled water for baby formula top 10 baby names of 09 gift for baby shower host what my baby looks like at 20 weeks |

A GRUMPY OLD MAN AND HIS GIFT TO THE WORLD! When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a nursing home in country N.S.W, it was believed that he had nothing left of any value. Later, when the nurses were going through his meagre possessions, They found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the hospital. One nurse took her copy to Melbourne. The old man's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared in the Christmas editions of magazines around the country and appearing in mags for Mental Health. A slide presentation has also been made based on his simple, but eloquent, poem. And this old man, with nothing left to give to the world, is now the author of this 'anonymous' poem now winging across the world. Cranky Old Man What do you see nurses? …………….What do you see? What are you thinking………………..? When you're looking at me? A cranky old man………………………... Not very wise, Uncertain of habit……………………….. With faraway eyes? Who dribbles his food………………...? And makes no reply. When you say in a loud voice …….... I do wish you'd try!' Who seems not to notice…………...? The things that you do. And forever is losing ……………………. A sock or shoe? Who, resisting or not…………………... Lets you do as you will, With bathing and feeding……………. The long day to fill? Is that what you're thinking........? Is that what you see? Then open your eyes, nurse ……... You’re not looking at me. I'll tell you who I am…………………... As I sit here so still, As I do at your bidding………………... as I eat at your will. I'm a small child of Ten………………...with a father and mother, Brothers and sisters…………………..... who love one another A young boy of Sixteen……………..… with wings on his feet Dreaming that soon now……………... a lover he'll meet. A groom soon at twenty……………... My heart gives a leap. Remembering, the vows…………….. That I promised to keep. At Twenty-Five, now…………………... I have young of my own. Who need me to guide………………. And a secure happy home. A man of thirty…………………………... My young now grown fast, Bound to each other…………………... With ties that should last. At Forty, my young sons…………….. Have grown and are gone, But my woman is beside me……….. To see I don't mourn. At Fifty, once more……………………... Babies play 'round my knee, Again, we know children ……………. My loved one and me. Dark days are upon me…………..….. My wife is now dead. I look at the future……………………....I shudder with dread. For my young are all rearing……..? Young of their own. And I think of the years…………….... And the love that I've known. I'm now an old man……………………. And nature is cruel. Its jest to make old age…………….. Look like a fool. The body, it crumbles ………….…....Grace and vigor, depart. There is now a stone…………………. Where I once had a heart. But inside this old carcass………….. A young man still dwells, And now and again………………….... My battered heart swells I remember the joys………………….. I remember the pain. And I'm loving and living………….... Life over again. I think of the years. All too few….. Gone too fast. And accept the stark fact………..….. That nothing can last. So open your eyes, people………... Open and see. Not a cranky old man. Look closer. See….. ME!! Remember this poem when you next meet an older person who you might brush aside without looking at the young soul within…………….. We will all, one day, be there, too! Angels Plot Glasnevin Cemetery The Old Plot as it is called is the resting place for over fifty thousand infants who were buried here up to the 1970’s. My brother is one of those fifty thousand. A figure that is so hard to imagine. There were up to 13 burials a day during the 1950s such was the infant mortality rate at that time. My brother Joseph was my parents first born. His birth was normal and Mums youngest sister rushed in to see him such was her excitement. It turned out Auntie Lily was the only relative besides Mum that saw and held Joseph. Some hours after he was born, my brother was found dead in his crib when they went to collect him for feeding. By the time Dad got in to the hospital my brother was gone. No explanation was given for what happened. All they were told was that he had been sent for burial in the Angels Plot in Glasnevin. Isands - The Irish stillborn and neonatal death society took over this plot a few years ago as there were rumours that it was going to be reclaimed and used for other purposes. At the time it was very untidy with unlevel ground and some headstones and monuments. A public meeting was called and this is the outcome. A serene area with benches to sit and reflect. Stone tablets surround the plot recording just a small number of the names of the babies that rest here. Glasnevin was one of the few Cemeteries that allowed stillborn babies to be buried in concentrated ground. In early times stillborn babies were not allowed in blessed ground, as they were unbaptised. As the Catholic church taught until last year, 2007, unbaptised children went to limbo, a place between Heaven and hell. (Can you just imagine the grief and torture parents went through over this? So having a place like Glasnevin brought some comfort. Many babies were buried in the ditches and hedges on the outside of other cemeteries around the country. Often parents buried their babies themselves between dusk and dawn in fear of being caught and yet wanting their baby to buried in Holy Ground. Up to 20 years ago, Mothers who delivered their stillborn babies in the Dublin Maternity Hospitals or Dublin Nursing Homes never saw their baby at birth. It was considered to be ‘better’ for them not to. Dads were totally excluded from the experience of childbirth anyway. The Hospital involved would see that the baby was buried in the Old Angels Plot in Glasnevin and for many parents the ‘bill’ for this is the only recognition they had for their baby.
