shoddy repairs by Canon Canada
After Canon had my lens for a couple MONTHS, it finally arrived back repaired but with the button panel attached like THIS.
Yes, its airborn as that tab should be *inside* the camera. Someone at Canon needs a new eyeglass or some pride in workmanship. This is amazingly bad.
Going to try to repair it myself, but they will at the very least receive a copy of the photo.
...AND related: They did not return my 67mm UV filter, rear lens cap or camera body cap. After phoning in, I'm assured they are going to "look for them". Attempting to keep some form of composure is proving challenging.
screwball
Experimenting with the macro stuff.
I am not happy with this shot. I don't know why. It just doesn't do anything.

ANTIQUE RADIO REPAIR. ANTIQUE RADIO
Antique radio repair. Free computer repair business plan. Laminate floor repair.
Antique Radio Repair
- An antique radio is a radio receiving set that is collectible because of its age and rarity. Although collectors may differ on the cutoff dates, most would use 50 years old, or the pre-World War II Era, for vacuum tube sets and the first five years of transistor sets.

Free to a Good Home - Telefunken Opus 7
This is a great radio, but after 50+ years it is in need of some repairs. Specifically, the volume control no longer works. Other than that it is pretty much as it was, except we replaced the outside knobs back in the mid 70's when Telefuken was still in Don Mills.
There is a bit of water damage to the cabinet and the grill cloth is stained from a rain storm back in the sixties but these don't affect the sound in any way. If anybody out there in Vacuum Land can tell me how I can get this fixed, I'd love to know. I am located in Ontario, Canada, about 90 miles east of Toronto.
Zenith 6S-229 - 1938
I found this in the corner of an antique store with $35 on the tag. The original paper finish was beyond repair but I was real happy to see the grain underneath.

December Diary 2009 Project
Theme: Reflections/Shadows
I know. I'm posting this a day late. But it WAS taken on the 18th, and the December Diary Project (DDP) rules say that as long as you take one picture a day, you can post several pictures at a time.
We were SO busy yesterday! Tommy took a vacation day and we finished up our Christmas shopping, and got everything mailed. Here's the bad part of yesterday - my car was taken in for what we thought would be a minor repair. The total cost was $2500. I'm just sick about it, but what can you do? It's an older car that's paid for, and although it only has 50,000. miles, things are starting to wear out. It's 13 years old!
I'm behind in commenting! I will be back this evening to catch up with everyone!
Just Found Out it Will Cost More to Repair BOOTH, my bike, than It Would to Buy a New Bike
(photo by Marianne, who's back in NY-woo!) I love that bike! I've had it for six years and rode it to and from work for six of those months. Got doored in November and then left it in the snow since then. One bike shop guy just laughed at me, the other, who looked like his name should have been Moonbeam or something, told me he could feel the vibe between me and the bike, and understood why I loved it. So true Moonbeam. So true.
ps it's name is JOHN WILKES BOOTH since it tried to kill me like four times when I first got it. Winds up I just didn't know how to ride a bike anymore. Yes. It's true. I had forgotten. Stupid saying...

Abigail's Journey to a Question
It was a vagina-look-alike of many lips, crevices, ripples, folds and depths. A vagina impersonator of great beauty and mystery. When Abigail saw it on the tree trunk (masquerading as bark) of course she pulled out her camera and took a picture.
Later, after the VLA had been printed, she marveled at its colors and textures. There were shades of red that she didn't have any names for, and folds of pinkish tan that swirled and coalesced around them to form a blatantly lovely invitation.
One day not so far away, time would turn the surface of her photograph yellow. Knowing this, Abigail went ahead and fed her heart while she could with vagina-like thoughts of gone-by silkiness and flowerings, emotional battlefields, hysterical bloody drumbeats followed by moments of sublime, fulfilled calm.
She went through The Long List of all those with whom she had shared her own V., ticking them off in alphabetical order. Every time she re-did this list, she remembered someone she had forgotten to include the last time, or forgot someone she had formerly included. Anselm, Bill, Beau Bob and Brad. Charlie, Darius, David and Don. . . . . Paul, Sam, Ted, Tom. . . and so on and so forth, all the way to dear old Zack.
Before she knew it, noon had passed her by. She had not yet taken her laptop, with its broken inner cable – the one that controlled the appearance and disappearance of images on the screen -- to the local repair shop. She had not yet gotten around to duplicating the all-important keys to the supremely important doors. As for the graying roots of her hair, needless to say, they had not yet been dyed.
She began to make a mental list of all her other incompletions. Things she wanted to start but hadn't, yet. Things she wanted to change but hadn't. Things she wanted to stop but hadn't. Things she wanted to do… Things she wanted to say. . .. things she wanted to learn . . feelings she wanted to express …
. . . but the VLA on the tree interrupted her with a question: "Forget about those lists," it said. "Speak to me instead. Think about what you really want to know, then ask me a question."
Desktop chaos (11/2009)
It's not my usual setup - I just have returned from some traveling so there are many thinks that are usually located at work (laptop etc.).

Vintage Mercedes-Benz 230 IV
I was on my way to a place further down on Broadview Avenue but accidentally got off the streetcar one stop too early.
What a lucky day! I came across this auto mechanic shop and saw this vintage Merc 230. Don't know what year it is made. I believe the auto repair shop was just days from moving as I think the land will be used to build new houses.
Indeed two weeks after I took this photo, the car was gone and the repair shop has been fenced off.
Vintage Mercedes-Benz 230 VI
I'm unlikely to post more photos this week (until 2011-07-24). A major heatwave is affecting Toronto and the temp. is reaching 35°C (95° F). My computer is complaining about having to work in this heat!

My baby is going to hospital
I dropped my 5D today – the first time I have dropped any of my cameras. Ever. With a lens attached.
It happened earlier on today at home (before I went to my mum's and took photographs of Honey). I'd just had a shower. My hands were moist from using some body lotion. I was holding my camera with both hands when I took it to another room, then as I went to turn around to pick something up, I moved to hold the camera with my dominant hand. But I moved too quickly. Next thing I know, the whole camera (several kilos of it) has slipped through my fingers.
As it all happened so quickly and I knew it was falling, I made no attempt to catch it as it fell – even though there was a good chance I would've caught it. I was worried that I might have swooped down to catch it but knocked it into the floor instead, causing it to fall directly onto the lens with the body falling into it, rather than onto the battery grip on the base of the camera (which is what happened).
After initially checking the camera, I removed the lens to check the mount on the camera. The camera itself was fine, and at the time, the lens seemed fine. It was only when I was coming home on the train earlier that I noticed slivers of black plastic coming off in my hands – I realised it had come off the lens. Then when I went to hold the focusing ring, the front elements housed there were loose – as became apparent through the distance meter.
At the moment, the lens is still holding itself together, but only just. So tomorrow I have to send the lens to Canon to see what they can do and get a quote. I know I can go to Fixation, but I don't like their "We'll serve you, but we prioritise professionals," attitude. Plus at least I can liaise with Canon directly and not somebody 'authorised' by Canon.
Of all the lenses I have that I could've attempted to break, it had to be the most expensive one. I'm still rather distraught about it all – if my lens is beyond repair, I can't afford to get the same one again, considering the price of glass these days. I can only dream of getting the same lens again for the ?780 I paid for it.
037/365: my car
#Day 037/365: my car
Sent my car in for repair, due to breaking system problem. Wanted to do that since month ago, finally to send my wife into garage for a quick fix.
burned my wallet, ouch!
fed up with the original break pad from Perodua®. have to change every 4-6 months and the traction also not that good. the pads are flatten and uneven, bad!
I have the break discs trimmed and installed a new pair of break pads. the mechanic told me it should be able to hold me for a year plus before replace a new one. they can take at least 500 degree Celsius of heat, so it is good for my driving style.
i been told to able to feel the traction after 50-100kms of driving since the discs are newly trimmed flat. soon after the garage, i have her a spin right away for testing purpose. new pads and they already break in hard grip. love it!
then, i had sent her to snowy-washy-washy... now is sparky-blinky-blinky from top body to sport rims. i have even done the rain repellent on windscreen/windows and wiper recondition by myself. new in-car fragrance as well! (i have not look after like that for ages, i missed the old days that i can shower for her by my own hands).
"you take care of your car, your car will take care of you" - quote
I LOVE YOU~!!!!!
*She is not SE (Sport Edition), just original stock installation from outside and inside. But, do not fool her on the road. She is RS (Racing Spec) in the spirit*

February 8, 2010
last month, my toilet needed repairs. all mechanical parts, all seals, all washers and bolts were original, from the mid-1980s. i paid too much to have it fixed. my garbage disposal, tonight, made a horrible cry, obviously something got in that should not. i cannot imagine what, but now when i turn the switch, i hear only the whine of the motor's futility.
a toast: here is to appliances. and home-ownership. and adulthood.
not to mention monthly budgets. but at least one can live without a garbage disposal (so far it still functions as a drain). toilets are another issue.
The engine part of the train
Apparently, one has to walk through this area to get to the cock pit. :) I wouldn't want to be in there when the engine is running. Not that it can run, the train is in a state of disrepair. I think the city should free up some funds so it can be repaired, mainly the broken window on the locomotive and the water damage on some of the ceilings inside.

3. Discussion of Changing Park Name
President Mark Reeder called the MHA?s Quarterly Meeting to order at
5:35pm. He asked for a moment of silence to honor Don Lucas, 35A, a
founding member of the MHA and a good neighbor. After reading the
rules of the meetings he called for the first agenda item ? election of
officers.
Election of Officers:
Nick Tamm was nominated for President by Paul Keaton, Kabir seconded ?

Jonathan Machen was nominated for Management Chair by Alex Wilson, Paul
Keaton seconded - Accepted Unanimously
There were no nominations for Secretary. The board will appoint a
temporary secretary until a person can be found to accept the
nomination.
The New President, Nick Tamm, then recognized Jonathan Machen, who
presented Mark Reeder with a plaque of appreciation for his 10 years of
service to the MHA.
CU/ED Project Report
Kathryn Alexander reported that MHA has entered into a partnership with
the University of Colorado Environmental Design Department to remodel
older homes from an environmental perspective. Thistle brought the
partnership to MHA and sits on the committee that oversees the project
along with MHA and the CU environmental Design head and the head of the
Planning Department. This is a long-term project that will experiment
with ways to upgrade homes in an environmentally sound manner by
covering them and redoing the interiors. This first project will be a
strawbale exterior with stone ?skirting?. The advantage for residents
is that we may be able to offer options for upgrading homes that does
not require money to teardown the old or set up the new home. This
could mean a substantial savings. Each demonstration project will be
different with CU providing the student labor and all parties working
to help fund the project and share in the sale of the home at
completion.
Nick Tamm then asked how long the project would run. Kathryn answered
that the project is scheduled to run for a year. Each project would
employ different designs and materials.
Infrastructure Report
Nick Tamm reported that MHA has written a letter, composed by Kathryn
Alexander and Mark Reeder, asking both Qwest and Xcel for help in
defraying the cost of putting in the dry utilities. He then asked Bill
Windsor of Thistle Community Housing to give the residents an update on
infrastructure rehab. Bill explained that the goal was to install the
entire new infrastructure in one phase. Sewer, water, gas, electric
and phone with Comcast cable at once. The project was priced out at $1
million above budget. Now decisions have to be made on what to do
first. The Park would not be done in sections, however. Whatever
infrastructure upgrades were done would be done to the entire park not
one section of it. Right now there was enough money to do water,
sewer and roadways and repair some telephone. Bill then explained that
the letter Nick Tamm spoke of earlier addressed the electric and gas
upgrades with Xcel and the telephone with Qwest. The idea is to
approach the two companies and ask them to donate the costs of their
upgrades. The costs would be about $700,000. The argument is that
Xcel and Qwest have benefited for 40 years from a private system that
they did not have to fund. Usually Qwest and Xcel would be asked to
put in a system and they would receive back the costs of that
infrastructure through their rates charged to residents. Residents
have been paying for 40 years on a private system and both Qwest and
Xcel have benefited from this. If residents wish to write their own
letters to Xcel and Qwest, they should send them to Kathryn who will
forward them to Bill. By donating their services, the infrastructure
costs could be trimmed enough in connection with other cost saving
measures to enable the entire infrastructure to be done at once.
The fall back position is to do sewer, and water first. Sewer and
water would go through the streets and then gas and electric would go
through the yards at a later date.

5:35pm. He asked for a moment of silence to honor Don Lucas, 35A, a
founding member of the MHA and a good neighbor. After reading the
rules of the meetings he called for the first agenda item ? election of
officers.

temporary secretary until a person can be found to accept the

11/05/2007 unfortunate day!
My first major accident happened on 11 May. Before the apocalyptic crash of the left front of my car by a ignorant 12-wheels trailor, my beloved car had thus far experienced minor scratch or dent resulted from poor parking skills. It all caused by a mistake of choosing the wrong lane to home. Fresh from the frustration of unable to get medical attention on a clinic not acknowledged by my company, I hv been driving quite recklessly to release my frustration. So, a silly mistake had now caused me a broken headlight, dented side fence, and of course seriously bruised bumper which was immediately dislodged and seen being dragged while the car was moving. I could never thought that an inch closer to the next lane with moving traffic could've caused disfigure of my dear car. I felt utterly remorsed of my rash move which now caused me have a thousand for repair and missed the mother's day celebration.
