Two-way Locking Functionality

First, the unit ships with a lock cylinder and key that can be used to lock the integrated retractable cable that extends from the right carrier arm. This cable lock can be be used to secure anywhere from one to all of your bikes to the carrier. Also included with the rack is a Thule TrunkLocker strap. This strap has two distinct ends. One end loops around the rack while the opposite end, which contains an integrated puck-like element, hangs over the interior edge of your trunk or hatchback. Ringling archway

This is an archway at one of the entrances to the Ringling Museum in Sarasota, Florida, and is a sample of the varied architecture that can be seen here.John Ringling, one of the five original circus kings of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, was blessed with entrepreneurial genius and through his success with the circus and other investments, became quite wealthy. In 1911, John (1866-1936) and his wife, Mable (1875-1929) purchased 20 acres of waterfront property in Sarasota, Florida. In 1912 the couple began spending winters in Sarasota and later decided to build a home there. Their property included a house built by one of Buffalo Bill’s circus managers, Charles Thompson. The Ringlings dreamed of helping Sarasota develop into a metropolitan boom town and they became involved in the community, bought real estate, and eventually owned approximately 25 percent of Sarasota’s total area.

The couple’s first project in Sarasota was the splendid Venetian Gothic mansion Ca d’Zan, built between 1924 and 1926 for a then staggering sum of $1.5 million. Mable had developed an affection for Venetian buildings on their travels and collected sketches and photos to incorporate into the design of the house which reflects both her and John’s taste and passion for opulence. She supervised the construction of the house with architect Dwight James Baum, designer of several New York mansions.

In the spirit of America's wealthiest Gilded Age industrialists, John Ringling gradually acquired a significant art collection, including paintings by Peter Paul Rubens, Velazquez, Poussin, van Dyck and other Baroque masters, as well as rare antiquities from Cyprus. He built a palace for his treasures in a 21-gallery Museum of Art on his Sarasota property.

The Florentine style building emulates the Uffizi Gallery and was specifically designed to house his collection of European paintings and art objects. The Ringlings had accumulated a treasure trove of objects, the result of many trips to Europe while searching for new circus acts. For years they acquired columns, architectural details and many fine art pieces. The result is a museum with a courtyard filled with bronze replicas of Greek and Roman sculpture, including a bronze cast of Michelangelo’s David.

My senior year in college, I took a month-long course in January called "Encounter in the Wilderness." It counted as a psychology course and involved a month-long camping trip in the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. That Christmas I received camping equipment in preparation for the trip. That course was probably the most valuable one I ever took, because it helped me know my strengths and weaknesses in a way nothing else could have. My college was St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, North Carolina. St. Andrews was one of the very best things that ever happened to me!

Our lovely camping place in Grimsvotn (Grimm's lakes) on central Vatnajokull. The day is may 22nd, but there in 1500m over seal level in endless winter, this was the best camping place we found up there. And it was really lovely and we all slept well. Until next morning when we woke up in a snowstorm and had to dig up the tents when we packed. I love camping in snow because I have good equipment to do it. My tent is the blue one.

This photograph shows the front exterior of Henderson Library. As you can see, the first floor exterior walls are made of stone, and everything else above the stone is brick. The brick and stone make the exterior "green" because it is easily maintained and does not harm the enviornment like a painted building would. Also these walls are the longest, and they run north to south. This means that the sun does not shine directly in the windows so less energy is used to cool the building. There are also drains that run from the top to the bottom of the library walls in order to drain water off the roof. It helps eliminate standing water that could cause damage to the building.

In the nineteenth century the firm of J & W Stuart at Musselburgh kept themselves in the forefront of net-making by continually improving their technology and materials. They operated warehouses at Lowestoft and Yarmouth; this advertisement was published when the latter opened in 1882.

I would take photos of the crew for the start of each season and we would put all the photos up on the fridge in the production office up at the farm where they would eventually get covered in the crew's graffitti.

The first year it was hot as hell in our office as it doubled as a barn. So there were sweaty portraits of everyone of us which is attractive only on certain folk.

The next spring we started another cycle of episodes and we chose the field before they harvested it.

This is Paul. He's our audio supervisor and I've worked with him for about three years on various shows, but whenever we get together we usually bring up Costa Rica when the six of us brought thirty cases of equipment through customs only to find out we weren't allowed to screw into the ceilings of the villa which would have eliminated a crapload of lights if we had only known. It was a small crew and I doubled as the PA/Producer walking bags and bags of water and food back from the market four at a time since we didn't have a car. We hired the son of the town's taxi driver to be our driver for the week and sometimes he brought his wife and kid along for the ride.

It was the only time our DP ever perspired on talent. He was holding the DV cam over a table of kids we were shooting who were at dinner and it was so miserable hot that the sweat dripped down his arm to his elbow and plop. Paul was sweating so bad he couldn't turn the dials on his mixer.

Everytime I see Paul, we always talk about how great it was.

I left out the part where each night around 2 AM after we worked the night shift in some sweaty club filled with drunk American and Australian kids, Paul, the DP and I would immediatly change into our swimsuits, grab a beer (doesn't show up on receipts for PC in Costa Rican Spanish), and head for the pool and search for satellites.

The last time I took photos up at the farm, it was winter of last year and people were bundled up in front of stormy skies. I need to find out who to pass the torch to.

Okay, maybe not..

These are one of my best friends daughters. A few weeks ago, they got their red belt and during the
certification ceremony, their institution had hired a photographer to do a professional shoot of all the students. Well, my friend told me that he wasn't happy with the results and the pictures weren't worth the money he paid..

so, I offered to do a shoot and hopefully give them some images that they like and can be proud of. But, I don't have any strobes or studio equipment, so I had to do the shoot outside using available natural light. I didn't have much going on after work today, so called them over for some test shots.. and got some pretty decent shots of the kids in action. Who knows, maybe the "test" shots may turn out to be more than enough.. we'll see.

Jens J. Jensen. Came to America in 1881 from Norway where he was born in Farsund, Mandals and Listers Amt, in 1859, and having been reared and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, was converted in Stavanger in 1877 where he united with the Methodist church, and on coming to Chicago, united with the 1st Norsk-Dansk Methodist Episcopalian church in 1886 tranferring to Maplewood Avenue church where he is now chorister; has been trustee for many years, and was formely S.S. superintendent. His wife, Anna (Olsen), of the same nativity, came with her parents, Soren and Anna Olsen, whose record appears in this volume, to America in 1871, was here converted and is a member of the Ladie's Society of the Maplewood Avenue church. Their children are Jens Arthur and John Sydney, two others Jens Jacob and John Sydney having died in infancy. Mr. Jensen's father, Jens Jacob Hansen, who passed away in Norway in 1864, an adherent of the Lutheran faith, was a talented violinist, the entire family with one exception being musicians. His mother, Anna Marie (Kjarvaldsen) after her husband's death came to America in 1882 and passed away six years later, aged 63 years, having previously embraced the Methodist faith. Mr. Jensen at the age of 14 years left his home for a sailors life, which followed for 3 years, visiting France, Scotland and numerous other countries, on his return home was converted, and about four years later came to America, where he has been one of the most active workers in the Methodist church, also being a member of the Skalden, a musical society.

The polished, chatoyant effect that chrysotile exhibits owes itself to the fibrous nature of the mineral itself. In most chrysotile rough material, the appearance of white to off-white bands of fibers is characteristic of the ore.

Oftentimes, the fibers in ornamental mineral and other similar fibrous gemstone minerals, such as pietersite, yuksporite, denisovite, tokkoite, tiger's eye, hawk's eye, cat's eye, Arizona tiger's eye, binghamite, silkstone, etc., have been "cemented" together by replacement with silica quartz during a process called silicification.

However, the use of pure, fibrous chrysotile asbestos mineral material in this particular jewelry application is quite plain to see. Unfortunately, this situation may likely introduce asbestiform mineral exposures during the minerals' collection, handling, transportation, lapidary and jewelry-making process.

When working with the rough-form, asbestos mineral materials, imagine using high-speed lapidary saws, sanding, and abrasive rotary equipment on asbestos-bearing rocks. The possibility of excessive airborne silica exposures alone would seem risky enough without adequate respiratory protection and ventilation, but add asbestiform minerals into the mix and the whole process could be potentially hazardous.

Bills big saw in use!

Too bad I did not handle the lighting a little better on my first two shots of Bill's big diamond slab saw - he was in the process of cutting a large chunk of petrified oak. The saw runs pretty quiet and cuts very well, has special sensors to control feed and an automatic sharpening device attached at the rear of the blade. The round cylinder attached to the rear is a cetrifuge device to clean the cutting lubricant. Bill is a very good machinist and a good lapidary, as well.

4. At this creekside campground you'll have a fishing hole for your back yard, and that's not all. Add spectacular scenery, clear water swimming holes, picturesque hiking trails and excellent wildlife watching (in other words the standard amenities of Oak Creek Canyon) and it should come as no surprise that these pieces of recreational real estate are in high demand. Now comes the bad news. This campground is small, so small that trailers and RV's are prohibited. So small that to get a campsite here you've got to be more than early, you've got to be lucky.
The decor at Manzanita Campground is Arizona ash and box elders, gravel beaches and stream-bed boulders. The creek is regularly stocked with trout. Colorful songbirds add a flash of brilliance to the trees. Access is easy. The campground is just a few yards off US 89A and the pull-throughs are paved.
Location: Twenty-one miles south of Flagstaff, 6 miles north of Sedona in scenic Oak Creek Canyon. Elevation is 4,800 ft. at Manzanita.

Access: On US Highway 89A, drive south from Flagstaff or north from Sedona. Both campgrounds are located just off the paved highway.

We're planning a camping trip in a few weeks so I thought I'd better check out all our equipment.

Here I'm modeling my new sleeping bag in the lounge. It's a mummy style bag, which is a bit of a departure for me. My current one is a more traditional rectangular light weight type, which I bought over 20 years ago. The new sleeping bag was a bit of an indulgence as the old one is perfectly serviceable, if a little old. This one was in the sale and promises to be very warm 8-)

Greg has an enormous passion for the world beneath the sea and the people who partake in this adventure.

His imagination was sparked at an early age while his family would gather around his Grandmothers television Sunday evenings to catch the latest version of Commander Cousteau and his Wonderful World. Greg was enthralled with the world under the sea and dreamt of adventures as a frogman in his junior years.

He began his diving career with PADI-NAUI oriented training in 1989 and transitioned through leadership programs involving supervision and education of neophyte enthusiasts. Being heavily involved with the procurement of dive industry protocol he founded a partnership in dive retail and opened a facility which catered to the mainstream enthusiast in 1993.

Finding an urge to seek further adventure Greg began organizing dive charter vacations on the west coast of British Columbia. Diving is distant from a spectators activity so unless one is submerged it leaves a great deal to the imagination. Video is a tool to bring the visualization to the next step so naturally this resource was brought under the waves to capture his clients pursuits while engaged in this environment. This went over very well with both divers and their families so Greg rarely missed an opportunity to film ringside for divers to bring their activities back home in real time. Apres dive presentations quickly became mainstream and the gang was able to improve on technique, recognize and communicate the creatures encountered in varying ecosystems. The camera was increasingly becoming more popular and baptismal challenges would soon envelope him in deep sea wreck diving adventure around the world.

Greg had read accounts of American adventurers on the east coast of the United States, brave souls who would journey to the edge of the horizon in search of challenging personal fulfillment on the high seas. Gary Gentile was one who documented in detail the excursions of the east coast shipwreck diving community and captured the imagination of many hardy souls. The characters and challenges outlined in Garys books was very appealing to Greg and he began the pilgrimage which would soon see him traveling with his video camera to destinations throughout the US, Europe and Asia.

The year was 1994 and information regarding mixed gases and related equipment was limited. The internet was in its infancy so was not developed significantly to engulf a community mainly comprised of laymen. Connections weren't made so readily as today so many understood the goals but were limited as to how to reach them. These people had to invent many of their own plumbing arrangements as they pictured the pursuit to unfold. Deep air diving was very popular and the advantages of helium were known but equipment to transfill and install were somewhat vague.

Greg then ventured to New Jersey to train with Andrea Doria shipwreck divers and was certified as a full trimix diver while visiting the Andrea Doria ... 107 miles offshore of Montauk Pt., Long Island, NY. While participating Greg met up with John Chatterton a charismatic leader and explorer who frequently organized shipwreck exploration in the North Atlantic. Greg began taking his film camera down to the depths filming these hardcore enthusiasts while they wrestled artifacts on the wrecks and captured their characters topside while expressing their passion and emotion for this activity. Greg would then compile the adventure and send them out to his friends as a production which soon became very popular and made its way to the media. By 1999 Greg had been crew on the Seeker for a number of years and had visited the Andrea Doria on twenty two occasions along with a number of deep shipwrecks namely the Sebastian, Republic and the U869 off this coastline.

Video Projects

NBC Discovery News - supplied stock footage for a program about the perils of diving the Andrea Doria and the risk divers take to gain a part of her, both mentally, physically and with artifact recovery.

Extreme Machines - Raiders of the Deep (Pioneer Productions) highlighted man's ability to push the limits with advanced technology such as use of closed circuit rebreathers. The program aired on TLC in June of 2000.

In 1997 Greg was involved with video documentation of the continuing saga of the U869 and his footage was used by Lone Wolf Productions of History Channels "Hitlers Lost U Boat"

The Struma Project (Associated Producers) - participated in the 2000 expedition to locate this shipwreck off the Turkish Coast in the Black Sea. Although the shipwreck was never found significant others were discovered in the pursuit and personal agendas were fulfilled for the founding member of the expedition Greg Buxton.

In the summer of 1998 he joined a British lead expedition to the shipwreck of the Britannic, Sister ship of the Titanic in the Kea Channel, he was to be the sole Canadian on this venture. The team was stationed in Korissia, Gre
