Birthday Bitchez Today is Jen’s birthday! Next Saturday is mine =). Jenners and I are doing a joint birthday party this year and we took this photo together as the image for the Evite to our party! We’re doing a joint celebration at this great bar / club in the Mission District of San Francisco. We were talking about the picture and for the last week we had all these fun ideas like, getting dressed up, wearing glasses, shirts with ties, etc. Confetti was always part of the plan. However when she came over on Saturday for the picture, she was so tired and I was wiped out that both of us were just sitting on the sofa watching Star Wars and said “fuck it, let’s just take the photo in what we’re wearing.” So I grabbed my DSLR, gave the camera to Anh, Jen grabbed her confetti launching device and we just stood at the wall and And just had the camera on machine gun mode and took the photos. This is a very typical Jen photo where one person is smiling and she’s keeled over laughing. The reason she’s laughing is because in order launch the confetti, she has to fling this tube device until it explodes (that’s what she said?) and while I was trying to dodge being hit, she just started cracking up. As yasin has described that he is my best friend so i was really happy at party night and was busy shooting everyone with my cell phone camera. (Forgot to bring camera) No one took my group picture but no worries, i did capture everyone in my cell phone and just going to share some pictures. Naveed's birthday party was full of fun and laughters we made there in KFC, Shuwaikh, Kuwait. Specially Rizwan and Yasin were two who made non stop fun. We hardly kep quite for a moment because Yasin and Rizwan were frequently exchanging funny comments to each other and we could not stop laughing loudly and the families sitting around us were strangely looking at us as we were mad (acording to them). Last night around 9:00, me and Jon were in my dorm, relaxing, watching Pirates on USA (my fav. movie ever) when all of a sudden, the fire alarm in our building goes off. We have fire drills occasionally, and they are ALWAYS at night, so I was hesitant to even move off my bed because I figured it was just a drill, no biggie. That was until I actually smelled smoke. I am in my friggin monkey pajamas with a short little t-shirt on, ready to fall asleep, and now I realize i have to go outside. I grabbed a sweatshirt and sandals really fast. Jon is in a big muscle shirt and shorts. We go outside and it's pretty chilly. I felt bad for Jon. Everyone in our dorm and the dorm next to us is standing outside the building, bitchin and yelling. 3 fire trucks pull up. I'm trying to figure out what happened because there was smoke and stuff. Aparently, a light cought on fire in the stairwell. Ok, so that was all we knew at that point. Finally the smoke alarm stops. A public safety officer comes outside and says " It seems that the light caught on fire was done intentionally, so whoever did this needs to step forward now." Ok, whoever started it is NOT going to walk up to this officer in front of EVERYONE and say "It was me!" So we continued to stand there, and at this point people are getting pissed. Sunday nights are CRUCIAL in college life- especially now when all the professors are giving out tests before break. We always use sundays to study! After about a half hour, the RD came and told everyone in Manor South (my dorm) and Manor west to go to the alumni hall. At this point, I'm pissed. Not only did I want to go to bed, I felt like I was a little kid again and someone threw something in the lunchroom and we were all being punished because no one fessed up to it. After about an HOUR in this hall, getting lectured, bitched at, and asked who did it about a million times, we were allowed to leave, but if you lived in manor south you had to wait outside for the firemen to clean up the mess in the stairwell. It turns out the fire was like dripping from this light, but it wasn't huge or anything. They did not need 3 fire trucks for this After about 2 hours, we finally got back in our dorm (which smelled horribly of burnt plastic). It was about 11:15. Come on York- let's get real. We are a bunch of 18 and 19 year olds living in a college dorm on a sunday night. Don't make us wait 2 hours for someone else's dumbass mistake. We would appreciate it if we were treated as college students, not middle schoolers *read tags* Hawaiian Guitar Class ca 1939 In the long long ago, I took Hawaiian guitar lessons from a very nice lady who lived across town from my home. Once a week, my Mom and I would ride a bus, then a streetcar and finally an electric trolley on our way to Mrs. Higgins Hawaiian Guitar School, which she operated in her home. This is a photo, I think, of all of her students. As I remember it, we had some sort of picnic and then had our picture taken. I don't know what caused the hilarity, but most of us look like we got the joke. Some smart-alec kid probably was probably making trouble for the photographer. Not me, of course. I was a perfect little gentleman. I'm on the far right in the striped shirt. I don't know why my Mom was always dressing me in those things. I don't think I especially liked them. To my right is Bobby Higgins, the teacher's son. Next is Clifford Hall, my best friend for many years. He lived just donw the alley from me. I don't remember the rest of the kids at all. I didn't think about it at the time, but Mom must have made quite a sacrifice of time and money to get me those lessons. The country had not fully recovered from the depression and money was in short supply. I wish I could thank her in person for all that she did for me, but all I can do is send a thought and hope it gets to her. There's really not that much here, although I'm still doing laundry so there'll be a few more things to go in. Any tips on packing light? Seriously, I'm usually good but having trouble figuring out what I can cut. But then again, I haven't actually packed my bag yet so I'm not even sure if this is a lot. It's also not folded neatly. Will probably bundle pack/roll all the clothes in some logical order and then put into one compression bag. Oh, and not shown? A bunch - sweater, long-sleeved coverup for hot areas, jacket+fleece combo, shawl, hat. Probably some other stuff. Argh. Of course, this does include the clothes I'll be wearing when I leave! 6 TL - Pair the long cardi over the shirt dress and belt the look to keep it looking professional (don't be afraid of mixing navy blue and black together either!). TR - The short sleeve purple jacket will be striking over the plaid tee paired with the floral statement necklace. BL - Make a graphic tee office worthing by layering a jacket over it and sporting some great heels. BR - Yellow and Gray is such a great color combo and this cardigan will add some spice with the cool neutrals. Casa Bonita...Behind The Waterfall I’m in Denver, Colorado, suckers! I’m here visiting my brother and we’ve gone to the famous Casa Bonita...yes, the same Casa Bonita they made fun of in that one South Park episode. The place is deceptively small looking on the outside as you approach this gaudy pink tower in a parking lot filled with run down dollar stores in a low class strip mall. But inside was this cavernous darkened maze strewn with all things kitsch and lowbrow. It was like a depraved Mexican Disneyland and a drunken nightmare all rolled into one. It was a grim reminder of what the world would have been like had the Mexicans took over the Alamo...oh wait, they did! The patrons there were split about half and half...one group genuinely thought the flashing lights, Mariachi bands, lurid floor shows and its early 70’s theme park vibe are all the best things ever. Naturally these people had mullets, missing teeth and Taz t-shirts under loose bib overalls. The other half were normal, intelligent folk who were there strictly for the irony. The food was akin to low grade school cafeteria fare, which, I’m told, is a vast improvement from the inedible carnival slop that it used to be. But mulleted and intelligent folk alike were not there for the cuisine. They were there for the cliff dive shows, the waterfalls, the dancing monkeys, the staged gun fights, the token arcades, the ski-ball, and, providing you scored enough tickets, the cheap plastic novelty circus toys you could win. And the place was chock full of that, man! All in all, I had a pretty good time. Sift through my photos and see for yourselves. Leave your funny and insightful comments as you know I always appreciate them. Just Take A Bite Probably the only worthwhile store on the West Side- gotta indulge on sweet treats while in Disney. I still enjoy walking through the West Side though. our bags are packed finally we are packed for our big adventure. in the end i have one big red mama bag for me and someof the girls things, one bag for their clothes and 2 carry ons with toys and dvd players for the trip. i have chosen to have no carryons so i can help the kids wit hers. marc has 2 small bags and one carryon and we are taking 2 packages to our friends. if there is a art to packing, i am sure i have not mastered it. all minimalist accounts i have read do not involve travels with children. here's a very rough accounting: at least 5 dresses per girl jeans shorts skirts 1 or 2 long sleeve 3-5 short sleeve shirts. 3 swim suits, 12 underwears 2 nightgowns 2 pairs of socks 3 pairs of shoes Toys packed: a fisher price piano keyboard that can be used as a fun game as well as a keyboard to continue with the yamaha method for mimi 1 leapster for the girls to share 1 dvd player each as they watch different things dvds papeback workbooks and stickerbooks pens crayons i have copied much of the kids music cds we have andhave creaed a kids playlist in my itunes i have bought cheap speakers so my kids can have bedtime music I am not bringing books to read which is probably a big mistake as we do read stories at night. i will be seeing what i can find online though i won't have any printer. maybe i can read them baby italian books so we can learn together... iTshirt back I came up with this design for another t-shirt last night and got really excited about it. I got to work today and quickly put it together and went down to the printers at lunch, only to come back and have a quick squiz on flickr and find that the design already exists... bummer. My design is slightly different, and the original shirt did not have the back design, that was a 100% Kridgett Kreation. Im thinking of marketing some of my tees online as soon as i come up wih some new designs, and interest or suggestions will not go un-noticed. Thirft store goodies I don't go to thrift stores or yard sales very often, but I think I need to start going more often. There's a cool little shop uptown where I got most of this. They had a lot more, including miniatures from the 20's, 30's and 40's. I couldn't afford the pricier items, but this lot was cheap, .50 to $2. at the most. I'm going back for the good stuff later. They have so much cool stuff that nobody else seems to touch the minis. Lucky me. The fabric is a vintage Hawaiian shirt that I got from a neighbors estate sale. I thought it would be great for drapes or upholstery in one of my Tiki rooms. In case your wondering scale, the little duck is just over 2" tall. He's the best! Vintage wind up Tomy from 1977, and he works! post pumpkin picking Phil and I went to this old house to take some pictures after we picked pumpkins at the Maize Valley Farm. I had originally picked out jeans and a plaid shirt to wear, but I just didn't feel pretty. Dresses always do the trick. Serenity screening swag The local Browncoats did an awesome job with the screening... everyone who bought a ticket got one of these little take out boxes full of fun stuff. Plus, if you stuck around, you could grab another because there were spares. And an added bonus: about one in ten (or better actually) would have a card to redeem for a promo CD or DVD or something cool like that. Also, there was sort of a free raffle thing too; so everyone had a chance to win some awesome posters, t-shirts, or a signed script! If there's one good thing about Fresno - it's this group.
