Mary Williams
Charles and Stella Runnels welcomed their daughter Mary Etta into the world on January 16, 1921 in Anna, Texas. She attended Anna High School where she lettered in basketball - and dominated the court with her fierce red-headed irish temper.
The majority of her life, she lived in Grand Prairie, Texas. She and my PaPaw owned Hill Street Automotive for many years. She loved costume jewelry and would sell it in the shop while PaPaw worked on cars. We often joked she made as much money as he did with her "sparkly baubles."
Granny dearly loved children and was a foster mother to dozens of children throughout her life.
Mary was preceded in death by her grandmother Mary Elizabeth Runnels, her parents Charles and Stella Runnels, her brothers George, Jim, Elmer, and Emmit Runnels, her sister Faye Gourd, her daughter Patsy Jean Lindsey, her first husband Lee Austin Powell who died of complications relating to a gunshot wound received while in the line of duty, and her second husband Clarence Howard Williams.
The surviving family members include, her daughter, Bettye and her husband Kenneth; sons, Roger and his wife Jeanne, Terry and his wife Kathy; stepsons, Alton and his wife Foncell, James and his wife Holly; and stepdaughter Laura. Grandchildren include: Tonya, Jack, Rod, Darrin, Christopher and Kimberley.
Great-Grandchildren, April, Michael, Landon, Jacqueline, Audrey, Seth, Adrian, Madison and Lathan (and another on the way).
Great-Great-Grandson, Julian.
Things she believed in: feeding stray animals - even if it meant going without food for herself, giving the garbage men gifts at Christmas, never driving a car that had less than a half-full tank of gas, the fact that the Dallas Cowboys were "America's Team" - Emmit Smith was her all time favorite player. She was fond of good burbon, and playing dominos and cards (though both were somewhat secretive given her religious fervor). She believed a woman should never let her hair go completely grey. She taught me to keep enough money for a phone call in my shoe on dates "just in case." She loved to flirt and believed that cars should be driven fast. (Cue her ticket at age 78 for going almost 70 in a 35).
She couldn't carry a tune in a bucket with a lid on it (her words, not mine) but she loved to sing. She believed that being late to church was the first step toward eternal damnation, and you'd better have a slip and stockings on when you entered the church doors. The only excusable absence from school was because you were dead, and even then you'd better send a note to your teacher. Arm fell off? Too bad, pick it up and carry it with your good one to school with you.
She loved grape jelly on bacon egg and cheese biscuits, something I still don't understand to this day. She would only drink out of a can through a straw, loved Mexican food and chocolate covered cherries.
She thought you should always take a camera, remember to send thank you notes promptly, and tip your waitress well.
She loved road trips, thought people who mouthed off to their elders needed "a good whoopin'" and adored Ann Richards and Bill Clinton.
She was a self-admitted worthless farmer, much preferring to sit in the shade and sip tea while her family picked cotton. She believed everything in life should be fair, and would go back into the store and pay for something if they'd forgotten to charge her for an item. Good posture was close to godliness.
She believed Christmas trees should go up on Thanksgiving Day and come down on New Years, and they should have shiny icicles on them. She thought children should play outside and that little boys should have short hair. She loved jewelry, and would often wear her rings stacked three or more deep on a finger.
In her world, beds were to be made every day, blessings to be asked before you ate your food, and laughter should be an integral part to every day. When dating it was best to keep "a pair and a spare" so as not to get too serious with any one man.
She believed that God gave complete forgiveness, but it was o.k. for her to hold grudges. If you bought shorts or skirts that were too short, they would miraculously disappear when laundry was done in her house. And you'd better know better than to ask what happened to them.
She would say damn and hell but if she caught you saying either, she'd wash your mouth out with soap. It didn't matter how old you were, either.
She loved game shows, especially any dealing with wordsmithing. Christmas was her favorite time of the year, and even though there was never much money to go around, she made sure everyone had a little something - even the tellers at the bank.
She couldn't eat a meal without bread of some form. She loved the smell of roses but thought that "lavender smells like old ladies." And she vowed that she would never grow old.
She was 87 when she passed from this world. And she was never old
2010 Toyota Camry Oil Change (2.5L I4)
Oil change is usually one of the easiest maintenance jobs on a car, but because of the trend towards cartridge-type filters, instead of the traditional screw-on canister type, it might be a good idea to know what to expect before one starts the job.
This is a 2010 Toyota Camry with the 2.5L 4-cylinder engine. The interval for oil change was specified to be every 5,000 miles, but Toyota recently changed it to 10,000 miles. The oil is synthetic 0W-20.
Step 0: Before you set out on the job, you'll need the following:
(1) new oil filter cartridge and new o-rings;
(2) 5 quarts of 0W-20 synthetic engine oil (the specified capacity is 4.7 quarts);
(3) a 64mm 14-flute filter wrench, a 14mm socket; and
(4) an oil collection pan.
The engine should be warm and not too hot. Since the oil filter screws on to the bottom of the engine, it's very easy to spill the oil, and you don't want to burn yourself.
