Belgium GP 2010: Qualifying; Webber fastest, Seb 4th

Mark Webber izborio je pole poziciju na nepredvidljivim kvalifikacijama za V.N. Belgije,a slijede ga Hamilton u McLarenu i Kubica u Renaultu, dok je Seb tek četvrti.
U Q1 prva žrtva skliske staze bio je Vitalij Petrov, koji je izgubio kontrolu nad bolidom nakon što je prešao preko mokrog, skliskog rubnika. Kvalifikacije su bile prekinute na pet minuta, dok suci nisu sklonili Renaultov bolid koji je ostao pokraj staze. Oko desete minute kvalifikacija, počela je padati nešto jača kiša, koja je iznenadila nemali broj vozača, koji je na kraju izletio na šljunak u zavoju Malmedy. Pred sam kraj prve kvalifikacijske runde, gotovo na istom dijelu staze, izletila su oba BMW Saubera. Dok se Kamui Kobayashi uspio vratiti u boks, Pedro de la Rosa nije imao toliko sreće, te je morao odustati zbog oštećenog prednjeg ovjesa. Tako da su u prvoj rundi ispali Trulli, Kobayashi, Senna, Yamamoto, de la Rosa, di Grassii Petrov, a Lotus Kovalainena i Virgin Glocka su uspjeli proći u Q2
U drugoj kvalifikacijskoj rundi vremenski uvjeti su se potpuno promijenili, te su vozači imali priliku popraviti svoja vremena na gotovo potpuno suhoj stazi. U drugoj kvalifikacijskoj rundi su ispali oba Mercedesa Schumacher i Rosberg te su završili na 11. i 12. mjestu. Još su ispala dva Torro Rossa Alguersuari i Buemi na 13. i 15. mjestu a ispred njih se ugurala Force Indija Luizzija.
Nakon Australca su se kvalificirali Lewis Hamilton i iznenađujuće brz Robert Kubica u Renaultu.
U završnoj rundi Webber je postavio sjajno vrijeme koje poslije nitko nije uspio spustiti. Hamilton je u svome drugome pokušaju uspio popraviti vrijeme te se kvalificirao na drugo mjesto ispred uvijek brzog Kubice. Sebastian Vettel je prokockao priliku za poboljšanje vremena nakon što ga je nespremnog uhvatila kiša na samom kraju kvalifikacija, te će sutrašnju utrku startati ispred Jensona Buttona i Felipea Masse. Rubens Barrichello će svoju 300-tu utrku započeti sa 7. pozicije ispred Adriana Sutila, momčadskog kolege Nice Hulkenberga i Fernanda Alonsa.

SV: “We had a bad start with Q1 being last out of the box. It gave us the advantage of not suffering any traffic, but then you’re the one who has to face the most water on the track with dry tyres - it was tricky. Fortunately we could get a lap in on the intermediate tyres and we were safe, but you never know in these conditions. Q2 was comfortable and in Q3 it turned out that the first run was most important. There was a bit of rain in the first corner and my first try in Q3 wasn’t good enough, simple as that. I made a couple of mistakes at the beginning of the first sector and lost momentum. On the last lap I made a good recovery and it was quicker than my first try, but then I went a bit sideways in Turn 14 and that was it. The most important thing today was that the car was very good, good enough to be ahead of everyone else. It didn’t happen for me today, so we need to do it tomorrow.”

Mislim da je Seb mogao mnogo bolje od 4. mjesta, al Spa nam je mnogo puta dokazala da pole position ne znači pobjeda tako da sutra očekujem sjajnu zabavnu utrku s malo kiše i naravno Vettela na najvišoj stepenici pobjedničkog postolja.

Mark Webber postavio je najbolje vrijeme na posljednjim slobodnim treninzima na belgijskom Spa-Francorchampsu, koji je ponovno bio okupan kišom, osobito tijekom posljednjih 15 minuta kada je započeo vrlo jak pljusak.
Lewis Hamilton bio je drugi najbrži, oko jedne desetinke ispred Sebastiana Vettela i momčadskog kolege Jensona Buttona. Robert Kubica završio je na solidnom petom mjestu ispred Ferrarijevog dvojca, Fernanda Alonsa i Felipea Masse.
Adrian Sutil, Nico Hulkenberg i Kamui Kobayashi zaključili su poredak prve desetorice.

Belgium GP 2010: Friday; Sebastian Vettel Q&A: The key word is ‘attack’!

Nakon ne tako dobrog petka Seb je odgovorio na nekoliko pitanja u stanju u prvenstvu i utrci i stazi Spa:

Q: Sebastian, after 12 races all the F1 folk had the much-needed summer break. What have you been up to during those four weeks?
Sebastian Vettel: My break started with a bit of chilling out, doing nothing - relaxing in a word, some days’ pure vacationing. And in the second part, again full-throttle training to get back into the rhythm to be fit for the two remaining European races. I also did special training to prepare me for the last five races, which will be very demanding as we will be jetting between continents in a short time.

Q: After the Hungarian Grand Prix the media were busy for quite some time reflecting on your race there. How long did it keep you occupied?
SV: On Sunday evening it was already almost a thing of the past. On Monday morning I was heading for my vacations and then the topic was non-existent.

Q: How big is the urge to race again - and to focus on the championship? There are five drivers, seven races and a gap of only 20 points…
SV: Okay, now we’ve heard the facts! But by saying those facts they imply that everything is still possible for each of these five drivers and the only reality is that from now on mistakes are forbidden. The one that makes a mistake is almost surely out of the race. Now is the time to forget everything that happened in the past, forget that it should have been possible to collect more points here and there and lamenting missed chances. Now we have to look forward - only forward - and that’s what we are planning to do. The key word is ‘attack’!

Q: But coming back to the last race and what happened with you there, there has been some wild speculation, some even going as far as asking if you need a psychologist…
SV: Ah, yes, I’ve heard that one too. I tell you what, you have to get used to loads of ‘good advice’ and criticism. And of course such a situation gives some of the media an outstanding chance to get carried away by their own creativity. But that goes down on me like water on oilskin. I have no time for letting myself get involved in all these things. I have to concentrate on what lies ahead of me - and not look back with self pity. Sure, now you start to see the races also in the context of the championship and we will not allow anything to irritate that.

Q: But does a mistake like the one in Hungary - you admitted that it was your mistake - affect the self-confidence?
SV: No, not really. If you look back at the races so far I didn’t make huge, unforgivable mistakes. In Hungary, yes that was a mistake, but in the end I brought home a result that didn’t slam my chances. It just makes it a bit harder. I would say what happened there was attributable to human nature. Not that I am very proud about it, but life goes on.

Q: But what will you do to avoid another such lapse - especially as it looks likely the safety car will be an issue again this weekend? Did you take the rule book for reading at the beach?
SV: It was a small negligence that led to a bigger issue. But as I just said, I brought back P3 so it wasn’t all that bad. I know the rules - be sure about that. I probably just didn’t have them in my focus that very moment. The time frame was three to four seconds where it all happened - after that everything was too late. No going back.

Q: Are you still aiming for pole position given that many times this season P1 on the grid didn’t serve you well? Is it a sort of ‘pole position curse’?
SV: That is a bit far fetched, as there have been numerous reasons why things happened when they happened. Pole position is still the best place to start from and I will always try to conquer that place.

Q: What does Spa mean for you?
SV: A wonderful track that is huge fun to drive. We have a good car that works pretty well in the corners - and that will be key here. To drive straight forward, everybody can do - you don’t necessarily have to be whizz! If I should judge our chances here I would say that we can be cautiously optimistic, as the track should suit us. The weather is always a bit question mark here and sometimes just oscillates between rain and heavy rain, so much will depend on what any occurs during the race.

Q: How was it going today?
SV: It was great fun, even though it was a bit tricky as we didn’t have enough (wet) tyres due to the regulations. You could have tried so many things - different set-ups and all that - but it’s impossible because of the lack of tyres, especially under such conditions, because nobody really wants to kill too many sets of tyres on Friday when you have qualifying and the race ahead. Overall I would say that it wasn’t a bad day for us.

Q: How was driving through the famous Eau Rouge under such conditions - with so much water on the track?
SV: This part of the track changes significantly when wet. Normally when it is dry you go full throttle, but when it is wet it turns into a proper corner and so you drive it completely differently, and then it’s not that spectacular any more. But under such conditions you simply try to get a good lap and don’t hit anything. For tomorrow and the race I hope we will find a bit more speed but then we should be fine.

Ferrarijev vozač Fernando Alonso je postavio najbrže vrijeme i na drugom slobodnom treningu na Spa-Francorchampsu, dok je drugo vrijeme imao Force Indijin vozač Adrian Sutil.
No, uzbudljiva završnica drugog treninga je izostala zbog bizarnog događaja. Nekoliko navijača je ušlo u opasnu zonu pored staze, zbog čega je FIA aktivirala crvenu zastavu kako bi ih pronašla i premjestila u područje predviđeno za navijače. Dogđaj je bio posebno frustrirajući za vozače koji su cijeli dan čekali suhu stazu.
Uskoro je pokazana zelena zastava, no ne i na kraju pitlanea gdje se zbog crvenog na semaforu stvorila kolona u kojoj su vozači morali stajati cijelu minutu.
Ferrarijevi vozači, Fernando Alonso i Felipe Massa su se uspjeli odvojiti od grupe, što im je donijelo značajnu prednost.
U tablici s vremenima, iza Alonsa i Sutila su Lewis Hamilton, Robert Kubica, Felipe Massa i Sebastian Vettel.
Jenon Button je bio tek sedmi najbrži, de la Rosa osmi, Barrichello deveti, a Kamui Kobayashi deseti najbrži.
Drugi slobodni trening je započeo na mokroj stazi koja se postepeno sušila, a pljusak u prvim minutama je na stazi uhvatio samo Timu Glocka i Vitantonija Liuzija.
Talijan je izletio na zavoju Rivage, nakon čega je morao u boks po novi nos, dok je Glock svoj dan završio udarcem u ogradu na 9. zavoju.
Vremenske prilike su bile posve nepredvidljive, što je karakteristično za mikroklimu koja vlada nad stazom Spa-Francorchamps. Osim temperature i kiše, boju je mijenjalo i nebo koje je u jednom trenutku tako bilo bez oblaka i sa suncem.
Alonso je prvi najbrži krug odvozio nakon što je prešao na intermediate gume, a uskoro ga je slijedio i momčadski kolega Felipe Massa, koji se odmah poboljšao za nekoliko sekundi.
Prvi koji je se usudio izići na slickovima je bio Toro Rossov vozač Jaime Alguersuari dvadeset minuta poslije, nakon čega su vremena počela padati, sve do 15. minute prije kraja kada je aktivirana crvena zastava.

SV: "It’s always tricky with these conditions, track time is limited and tyres are limited. We would love to run more despite the rain, but we don’t have so many tyres and looking at the weekend we might need them for qualifying and the race, so we didn’t want to use them all today. We were looking at the balance, it feels good, but it’s hard when the conditions are changing. We still have some work to do for Saturday and Sunday.”

Ferrarijev vozač Fernando Alonso je postavio najbrže vrijeme na kišnom prvom slobodnom treningu voženom u petak ujutro na stazi Spa-Francorchamps.
Španjolac je svoj prvi najbrži krug odvozio na polovici sesije od 90 minuta, što mu je omogućilo da cijelo vrijeme bude ispred Lewisa Hamiltona i Sebastiana Vettela.
Nakon što je postavio najbrže vrijeme, Alonso je momčadi preko radija javio da su se uvjeti zbog jake kiše u sektoru od Stavelota do Blanchimonta pogoršali te se vratio u boks. Stazom su kroz sljedećih nekoliko minuta tekli potoci, a u boks su se vratili svi vozači.
Na stazu su se počeli vraćati kroz zadnjih 10 minuta kada se vrijeme potpuno promijenilo, što je inače tipično za ardensko područje na kojem se staza nalazi. Umjesto teških oblaka, na nebu je zasjalo sunce, no staza se zbog nižih temperatura sporo sušila tako da velika poboljšanja u vremenima nisu bila moguća.
Sa staze je u jednom trenutku izletio Felipe Massa, a brže nego ranije je vozio jedino Fernando Alonso; ovog puta s vremenom od 2:00.797.
Hamilton se više nije vraćao na stazu, dok je Robert Kubica u Renaultu u posljednjim minutama skočio na treće mjesto.
Četvrti najbrži je bio Sebastian Vettel, a slijedi ga Force Indijin vozač Adrian Sutil, kojemu kišni uvjeti općenito odgovaraju.
Na stazu se nije vraćao ni sporiji McLarenov vozač Jenson Button, koji je u konačnici imao šesto najbrže vrijeme. Buttona slijede Webber, Kobayashi i Barrichello, dok krug prve desetorice zatvara Michael Schumacher, za kojeg staza u Belgiji ima posebni značaj.

Seb je stigao u Spa uoči 13. utrke prvenstva. Vettel kaže da je prvih tjedan dana proveo odmarajući se te se poslije toga uhvatio priprema za zadnji dio sezone i kako mu se više ne bi trebale događati glupe greške:

Q: Gentlemen, first of all, what did you do during the break? Pedro, with the family I guess?

Q: Sebastian?
Sebastian Vettel: I think like the majority of the drivers, a bit of holiday in the beginning and then as soon as I was back I tried to get back into the rhythm. Lots of training. The weather wasn’t always fantastic in the centre of Europe, but the usual stuff I guess. Then I tried to prepare to come back here.

Q: Sebastian, tell us about the technical challenge for Red Bull here as it has been quite interesting driving 24 seconds at full throttle with your engine balanced against the fast corners in the middle sector and then again very quick on the way back. What are your feelings about the technical balance there?
SV: Yeah, as you said a big part of full throttle here, so lots of straight lines where you cannot do much from the driving point of view. Looking back last year we were very strong in sector two. With all the corners in sector one and three we lost out. This year I think we have a better car in all kinds of conditions and also for all types of corners whereas last year I think in low speed we were probably a little bit behind. We have definitely made a step forward, so we should be strong here as well and for straight lines, yeah. Obviously it is not Hungary. There are lots of straight lines, so we will see how we will get on. But I think we will find the right balance. We don’t know the weather but generally we are positive and carefully optimistic I would say.

Q: When it comes to the rest of the season we heard from Michael how Mercedes perhaps are concentrating more on 2011. Other teams perhaps doing the same thing. How do you see the rivalry at the front of the championship for the rest of the year?
SV: If you are in a position to win the championship that is where your focus is on but I can assure you that we are also working for next year. The cars will change again quite a bit, so you have to focus early enough and start early enough to be there right from the beginning. But, as I said, it is obviously a different situation for us maybe in comparison to other teams. We are in a very good position for this year and obviously the target is for everyone to win races and ultimately the World Championship. We are in a very good position to do so, so that’s where our main focus is.

Q: And do you see the other two or three teams really continuing to push you?
SV: Of course. I think Virgin is obviously focusing on next year, teams like that, but the teams that still have a fair chance - Ferrari and McLaren - I think that of course they have to and they will push until the end, same as us. So they are in a very similar position. We are all very tight on points. Again, the points system this year is different, so even though it might look a big gap of ten, twenty, thirty points, it’s literally nothing. Fernando, for instance, had a couple of good races in the last two or three races and from nowhere, when people said he’s no longer in this championship, he’s back. It shows how quickly things can change. You have to keep pushing until the end.

Q: (Juha Päätalo - Financial Times Deutschland) Sebastian, if you look at the performance of your car, you actually should have a few more points. Is there anything in the rest of the season to which you personally and your team will take a different approach to avoid throwing away important points?
SV: I think, yes, we should probably have more points. We have a saying - I don’t know if it makes any sense in English - but where I come from we say ‘if the dog wouldn’t have gone for a shit, he would have got the cat’ which is basically would, could, should. It’s all fine, but at the end of the day what matters are the points you have on the scoreboard. I think we’re very close. Obviously Mark is leading the championship, I’m only ten points behind. We’re first in the Constructors. I think, yes, you could argue we should have scored more points but then again, also other teams and other drivers are in a similar position and they should have scored more than they did, so in the end we are who we are and this is where we are at, so basically the championship starts from more or less zero now and we have to focus on every single race, obviously. With 20 races to go, or 15 races, there’s obviously more chance or probably more room for mistakes and with only seven to go you know that every single one is probably more important.

Q: (Frédéric Ferret - L’Equipe) To all of you: as Spa is a special track and something different always happens here, do you have a special memory from this track, good or bad?
....
SV: It is just the second time that I’ve raced F1 here, so obviously I don’t have so many memories but I won some races in small categories, so those were good ones, and last year, obviously, the first time you drive here in Formula One is always a bit special because you get some special feelings that you cannot even come close to with GP2 or whatever, so it has been a good one last year. Now we hope for some points which would make this year a pretty good race.
LH: For me I had some good races here in Formula Renault and especially Formula Three in 2005, I had a good race with Adrian Sutil who was my team-mate, passing through Eau Rouge which was quite good in the wet. But then in Formula One I would say 2008 was still quite a cool memory for me, regardless of the result. I think it was a great race and one that was definitely very interesting.
MS: Well, I like to remember ’95, and probably I’m in a similar position here this weekend. Me being here in Spa, having this situation, having the memory of that year it’s good, look forward.
SV: I broke my finger here in 2006. I had a crash in World Series and then for the first time I was in the medical centre here. They brought me in the ambulance to the hospital. It’s not a nice experience, I don’t want to do it again but it is an experience. I remember I was put into a wheelchair, even though there was nothing wrong with my legs and they gave me this funny dress like an old woman’s dress…
MS: Pictures?
SV: No pictures. Yeah, it’s an experience, something you obviously won’t forget. The driver of the ambulance was probably more crazy than all of us together. And then, I think only two years back in 2008 there was quite a chaotic finish with a bit of drizzle at the end of the race. I think I went from P4 to P8 to P4 within one lap. It was quite special. It’s a very long lap here and a lot of things can happen. You realise on occasions like this, it’s always a nice track where something extra happens.

Q: (Walter Koster - Saarbrücker Zeitung) Sebastian, what’s your gift for your team-mate tomorrow? The old man has a birthday, 34 years old.
SV: I didn’t know that this was his birthday. I have brought nothing with me. I don’t know. I need to find something. I think they have these free shampoos and this kind of stuff in the hotel, a last minute present. But don’t tell him, of course.

Vettel: Prvenstvo opet počinje iz početka

Red Bullov vozač Sebastian Vettel misli da prava borba za naslov svjetskog prvaka počinje tek sada, što znači da više nema pravo na pogrešku.
"Da, trebali smo imati više bodova," izjavio je Vettel, koji je bodove bespotrebno izgubio i na zadnjoj utrci u Mađarskoj, napravivši nekarakterističnu pogrešku iza sigurnosnog automobila. "U Njemačkoj, odakle dolazim, imamo izreku koja ide ovako nekako - da pas nije išao na zahod, ulovio bi mačku... Radi se zapravo o tome što smo mogli ili trebali, a to sada nema veze."
Vettel je trenutno treći u vozačkom poretku, sa 151 bodom, što znači da je njegov zaostatak za vodećim Webberom 10 bodova.
"Tu smo gdje jesmo, prvenstvo sada opet počinje, više-manje od nule. Moramo se fokusirati na svaku pojedinu utrku. Na 20 ili 15 utrka vjerojatno je više prostora za pogreške, ali kada ih do kraja imate još samo sedam, onda je svaka utrka još važnija."
Vettel vjeruje i da će borba za naslov prvaka ostati još dugo otvorena, zahvaljujući novom sistemu bodovanja kojeg Formula 1 ima od ove godine.
"Što se tiče Ferrarija i McLarena, oni moraju, a to će i napraviti, pritiskati do kraja. U sličnoj su poziciji kao i mi, a bodovno stanje je vrlo izjednačeno. Ovaj sistem bodovanja je neobičan. Premda se čini da su razlike velike, praktički ih nema. Fernando je imao nekoliko dobrih utrka i od nikuda se vratio u igru. Sve to pokazuje kako se stvari mogu brzo promijeniti i zato moramo pritiskati do kraja," zaključio je.

Belgium GP 2010: Spa-Francorchamps 27.-29- rujna

Povijest:
Spa-Francorchamps se prvi put upotrebljavala 1924. godine te kao staza ima jako dugu povijest. Mnogi vozači su pobijeđivali na njoj, ali vremenske prilike koje se znaju često izmjenjivati na ovoj stazi čine je jako teško savladivom. Baš zbog toga ju je Jim Clark mrzio iako je na njoj ostvario četiri pobjede za redom u preiodu od 1962-65. godine. Dosadašnja natjecanja su pokazala da na jednom djelu staze može sjati sunce dok na drugom dijelu pada jaka kiša, naravno otežavajući posao vozačima.
Opasnosti su na ovoj stazi prisutne gotovo uvijek. 1960. godine su na stazi poginula dva vozača u dvije nesreće i to Alan Stacey i Chris Bristow. Do 1970. godine postalo je svima jasno da se na stazi postižu vrlo velike brzine te su je upravo iz tog razloga maknuli sa kalendara natjecanja Formule 1. Povratak natjecanja Formule 1 na stazu Spa zbio se 1983. godine. Dužina staze bila je gotovo prepolovljena a dijelovi staze koji su bili klasificirani kao opasni bili su uklonjeni. Od toga trenutka staza je nagrađivala samo one najtalentiranije među vozačima.
Eau Rouge ostao je kao jedan od najzanimljivijih zavoja na stazi ali isto tako kao i poprište mnogih nesreća. Alex Zanardi je izbjegao ozbiljne povrede 1993. godine kada je u tom zavoju slupao Lotusov bolid. Pod dojmom tragičnih događaja u Imoli 1994. godine dodana je nova šikana ali je novom pregradnjom 1995. godine zavoj opet dobio na težini.
Ayrton Senna je pobjedio u četiri utrke za redom u razdoblju od 1988-91. godine. Također je na stazi Spa svoju prvu pobjedu ostvario Michael Schumacher i to 1992. godine. 1993. i 1994. godine pobjeđuje Damon Hill dok odmah zatim tri pobjede za redom ostvaruje Michael Schumacher.
1998. godine pobjedu ponovno odnosi Damon Hill. Zapravo je to bila utrka u kojoj je briljirao Jordan kao tim jer je tada ostvarena njihova prva dvostruka pobjeda. Michael Schumacher i Damon Hill su bili vodeći u utrci ali je Michael naletio i sudario se sa McLarenovim bolidom kojim je upravljao David Coulthard, a koji je vozio sa krugom zaostatka iza vodećih. Taj je sudar primorao Michaela na odustajanje što ga je jako pogodilo i dovelo na rub sukoba sa McLarenovim vozačem u boksevima.
Slijedeće godine u utrci po sunčanom vremenu pobjedu odnosi David Coulthard. Bila je to jedna od utrka koju je Michael Schumacher morao propustiti zbog ozlijeda zadobivenih u nezgodi na VN Velike Britanije. Međutim ni godinu dana poslije (2000.-te) nije imao više uspjeha. Morao se zaustaviti na trećoj poziciji iza prvog Mike Hakkinena i drugoplasiranog, njegovog mlađeg brata Ralfa.
Michael Schumacher je ponovo bio pobjednik na prekrasnoj Belgijskoj stazi 2001. godine. Drugo mjesto je pripalo Škotu Davidu Coulthardu dok se iznimno brzim pokazao Giancarlo Fisichella koji je osvojio treće mjesto.
Na toj se utrci dogodila strašna nesreća zbog koje je utrka bila prekinuta na duže vrijeme. Do nesreće je došlo kada se Luciano Burti sudario sa bolidom Eddiea Irvinea.
I godinu dana kasnije pobjednik je ostao isti no preostala dvije stepenice na postolju su popunili Rubens Barrichello i Juan-Pablo Montoya.
2003. Velika Nagrada Belgije nije održana zbog političkih razloga, no staza se na zadovoljstvo svih vozača ponovo vratila 2004. godine, kada je Kimi Raikkonen ostvario svoju prvu pobjedu sezone, tj. drugu u svojoj karijeri. Michael Schumacher je drugim mjestom osigurao svoji sedmi naslov svijetskoga prvaka.
2005. godine na belgijskoj je stazi pobjednu ponovo slavio Kimi Raikkonen. McLaren je zamalo ostvario dvostruku pobjedu, no samo četiri kruga prije kraja utrke, Antonio Pizzonija u Williamsu je udario drugoplasiranog Juana-Pabla Montoyu i obojici okončao utrku. Fernando Alonso se ponovo popeo na drugu stepenicu pobjedničkog postolja, dok je treće mjesto pripalo Jensonu Buttonu u BAR-Hondi.
2006. godine, V.N. Belgije se nije održala. Iako je već bila uvrštena u F1 kalendar za sezonu 2006., Spa-Francorchamps je kasnije izbačen jer je Bernie Ecclestone zahtijevao da se neki njezini dijelovi renoviraju prije odžavanja utrke.
Nakon renoviranja 2006. godine, V.N. Belgije je 2007. ponovno uvrštena u kalendar utrka. Pobjednik te godine bio je Kimi Raikkonen za volanom Ferrarija, nakon kojega slijede Felipe Massa i Fernando Alonso.
2008. se odvijala prava drama. Potkraj utrke je počela padati kiša. Pobjednik je trebao biti Lewis Hamilton, ali su FIA-ini suci kaznili McLarenovog vozača zbog presjecanja šikane, odnosno posljednjeg zavoja na stazi, gdje se borio sa Kimijem Raikkonenom za prvo mjesto, te mu je nakon utrke, uz dodanih 25 sekundi kazne, oduzeti pobjednički pokal i deset bodova, a pobjeda je pripala Ferrarijevom vozaču Felipeu Massi. Drugi je završio BMW Sauberov vozač Nick Heidfeld, a treći, s kaznenih 25 sekundi, Lewis Hamilton.
Godinu dana kasnije, pobjedu je ponovno slavio Ferrari, no ovoga puta s Kimijem Raikkonenom. Fincu su se na pobjedničkom postolju pridružili impresivni Giancarlo Fisichella u Force Indiji i Sebastian Vettel u Red Bullu.

Red Bull očekuje da će gubiti vrijeme na pravcima

Direktor Red Bull Racinga, Christian Horner je zabrinut predstojećim utrkama u Spa-Francorchampsu i Monzi koje bi mogle biti problematične za njihov RB6.
Horner, naravno, nije zabrinut zbog aerodinamike budući da RB6 u tom kontekstu funkcionira besprijekorno, nego zbog snage motora, s obzirom da je Renaultov V8 i dalje deficitaran u odnosu na suparničke.
A upravo će dugački pravci u Belgiji i Italiji posebno naglasiti maksimalne brzine.
"Vrijeme ćemo morati nadoknađivati u zavojitom sektoru," objasnio je Horner. "Na uzbrdici do Eau Rougea i na dugačkim pravcima ćemo gubiti vrijeme," dodao je.
Hornerove riječi je potvrdio i njihov vozač Mark Webber, koji je izjavio: "Znamo da naš motor nije najjači."

Šef Red Bull Racinga, Christian Horner je poručio Sebastianu Vettelu da ga događaji s VN Mađarske ne bi trebali obeshrabriti u borbi za naslov prvaka ove godine.
"Bio je vidno frustriran nakon utrke," izjavio je Horner. "Na postolju ste mogli vidjeti da je očajan i razočaran, ali sve je to dio procesa učenja. Do kraja imamo još sedam utrka, na zadnjoj utrci u Mađarskoj je osvojio puno bodova u odnosu na neke suparnike, dok sama momčad ima odličan rezultat. Prvo i treće mjesto za nas znače puno bodova prije ljetnog odmora. Može biti zadovoljan zbog činjenice da je puno nadoknadio u odnosu na svog glavnog suparnika Lewisa, dok je Jenson osvojio tek nekoliko bodova. McLarenu smo puno nadoknadili u konstruktorskom prvenstvu, tako da je ovo sjajan rezultat za momčad. Mark je odvozio izvanrednu utrku. Dali smo mu zadatak i rekli da treba napraviti prednost od 20 sekundi, a on je to odradio."
"Čak je našao vremena i da nam preko radija javi kako uživa u obilaženju Michaela za cijeli krug. Bio je ono sjajan nastup."
"Seb treba kanalizirati emocije"
Premda je Vettel razočaran svojim rezultatom, Horner vjeruje da bi Nijemac negativne emocije trebao kanalizirati i pretvoriti u nešto pozitivno."
"Utrka, nažalost, ovdje nije išla njemu na ruku, ali crni oblak ga ionako prati od početka sezone. Ove godine se radi samo o bodovima. S Markom smo vodeći, a Seb je odmah iza Lewisa. Cilj nam je da obojica budu naprijed jer želimo učvrstiti svoje vodstvo u konstruktorskom. Emocije su ono što ga čini tako jakim i to očigledno treba kanalizirati u bolid. Imamo sreće pa su obojica vrlo predana i energizirana, a to je jedna od snaga naše momčadi."
U zaključku intervjua, Horner je demantirao nagađanja da je Vettel instruiran da na ponovljenom startu zadrži Fernanda Alonsa u korist Marka Webbera.
"Imali smo nekoliko problema s radio vezom sa Sebom i nije bilo jasno može li nas čuti ili ne, zbog čega sam mu se tijekom utrke i ja nekoliko puta javljao. Ali, znao je da je napravio grešku jer je to odmah javio svom inženjeru," dodao je.

Hungarian GP 2010: Sunday; Sebastian Vettel Q&A: Hungary laps already in the past

Na glupi način je Seb izgubi Mađarsku, ali kaže da je sve to već zaboravljeno.

Q: Sebastian, you dominated the whole weekend and then ended up P3 in the race. Can you find cause for joy in this?
Sebastian Vettel: Well, these are still good points but I should have won and a little negligence from my side trashed it all. I was so sure that the safety car would stay out a bit longer and the punishment I received for that lapse was quite severe. But it does not help to cry over spilled milk.

Q: The drive-through penalty - was that something you take the blame for, or should the team have supervised you in any form? Or at least reminded you of the rules…
SV: I think the main issue was that in the first part of the race we lost the audio contact - what the reason was for that we will have to find out - and that was probably the start of all the misfortune. In the end I didn’t do myself any favours in giving Mark (Webber) so much space, as I have lost ground to him. I don’t have much more to say about it. I was fastest all weekend long and was always the faster of the two of us - except for the race.

Q: You made some unmistakable gestures from the car during your drive-through. When did the first rush of anger pass?
SV: I was there in the car not knowing why I’d got a drive-through penalty, so understandably I was not too happy - and I showed it! Because after that penalty I was stuck behind that red car and from then on my race was over. I’d been much faster but on this track it’s impossible to overtake without the danger of sailing off the track and I wanted to bring these points back home.

Q: Do you think that the penalty was justified?
SV: I don’t want to go out on a limb in this matter. It is just stupid to believe that I transgressed the distance to the safety car on purpose and as to whether the drive-through was a just measure I would not know. In Hockenheim a wrongdoing was punished with a fine - this time with a drive-through!

Q: There was at least one positive side to your race: Lewis Hamilton didn’t get any points at all and if you look at the drivers’ championship everything is still wide open. How easy is it for you to put this race behind you and look forward positively?
SV: Ah, that is never a problem for me. The following day I’ve put everything behind me. It’s simply not good to start reflecting on what could have happened without this lapse, because in this way you keep yourself stuck in something that is already a thing of the past. Sure, the summer break would have been a bit more relaxing with a win - especially when I was holding it almost in my hand and let it slip away.

Hungarian GP 2010: Saturday; Sebastian Vettel Q&A: A perfect lap - now I need a perfect start!

Nakon sjajnog osvojenog pole positiona, sjajno složenog kruga Vettel je odgovorio na nekoliko pitanja o današnjem danu te sutrašnjim predviđanjima za utrku:

Q: Sebastian, you obviously had a perfect lap. There’s a substantial gap to your team mate and also to the Ferraris…
Sebastian Vettel: Well, every track is different and we have seen that Ferrari were closer to us in Hockenheim, but today they have been closer to the McLarens. And yes, I had a perfect lap and that is not easy on this track. The gap is indeed quite big and to be honest we didn’t expect that - at least not in the range of eight-tenths. But of course we accept it with pleasure!

Q: Given how substantial the gap is, have you found something on the car since Hockenheim or is it just down to you?
SV: Probably the Ferrari liked the Hockenheim track more than this one and for us it is just the other way around. I felt really good today and as I just said this afternoon was a real pleasure

Q: Why is it so difficult to have a perfect lap here? This track seems to test the drivers…
SV: It is a short track with many corners and you need to be spot on for the braking points. Then you have many left-right combinations and on top of that many bumps. So believe me, it’s not easy, because what is easy here is to lose the car - to brake too early or too late, or miss the entrance to the next corner. There are many ways to screw up your lap, so it is important to have confidence in the car and from there on in you almost automatically do things right. I think that is what happened to me today.

Q: Obviously you like this track a lot - and it likes you…
SV: Yes, I like this track. When you go out for Q3 and your heart is beating, you are a bit nervous but excited. In the end you need this tension to deliver and find those extra tenths.

Q: What are you feeling at that point?
SV: I can only say that Red Bull gives you wings. It’s as simple as that.

Q: You have done fantastically well all weekend long. Were you convinced you’d end up on pole position?
SV: Well yes indeed, the car was fantastic all weekend long so we have been quite sure that we would make the front row. And we did it. As I said on the team radio right after qualifying, it’s a day for the team. They deserve to be on the front row as they have given us a magnificent car that works superbly around here on this difficult track. They can be proud of what they’ve achieved this weekend.

Q: It’s your fourth pole position in a row, and given the nature of the track, you should be able to convert it into a win…
SV: Yeah, it really looks good. Even on Friday with a heavier car the feeling was very good on the long runs. So starting from the best spot in the race will definitely give me an advantage. We all did everything possible today and now we have to focus 100 percent on the race. And that will be a difficult one!

Q: In Hockenheim at the start you seemed to dive across to protect your position and that didn’t work. How are you approaching the start here?
SV: Your approach always depends on how your start is. The last two times we didn’t have the best start therefore you try to defend, but if everything goes to plan tomorrow I will just go straight. There are some so-called ‘experts’ that say that I am a poor starter, but that goes in one ear and out the other. And the clutch problem that we had in Germany is solved.

Q: Your team mate is right next to you. How will you approach the first corner?
SV: The only team order that we have is don’t crash into each other. We misunderstood the situation once this season and this should be enough!
