Hand replay - AK (-$54.25)

I was browsing through my Poker Tracker statistics and realized that the KQo hand posted earlier wasn't the hand that lost me the most at once. It was actually this hand.. AK. I think I overplayed them badly, and from then on I started listening to the advice of not overplaying the AK. I honestly believe it is a good advice, and even more so in a cash game. I would say that it is crucial for a cash game that you don't overplay the AK since it can be very very costly. In a tournament, when you have an AK it is usually a 50-50 shot and depending on stack sizes and position you can use this card to your advantage most of the time. Although, I read somewhere and I agree with the assessment made there - AK is a card to go all-in with, but it is not a card to call an all-in with.
***
Anyway, let's go to the hand I was almost embarrassed to post. Still, I believe that posting hands here really helps me because of the big impact the revelations of a bad plays have on me. Mind you, hands posted here are not hands that I played yesterday or today, in fact, they are not bound by time in any way, so you won't be really able to tell did my game improve or deteriorate over time. This is just a hand analysis that I hope will help me, and anyone who reads it..
***
This hand was played at $50 NL Full Ring table (blinds $0.25/$0.50) at Party Poker. Actually, you will probably notice that I was on tilt this hand because the one where I lost most previously (the hand with KQ and Pulda8 as my opponent) was played just few shuffles before this one I believe.
I was on the button when I received with $71.70 in front of me. Everybody folded (including microfish4 and Pulda8) to the 3rd player off the button (hoas777) who raised to $2.50. I re-raised from the button to $4.50 and both blinds folded and hoas777 called. There was now $9.75 in the pot and hoas777 had $49.75 left. The flop came giving me nothing but 2 overcards and position on hoas777. From what my Poker Tracker was telling me, hoas777 was a Tight-Aggressive/Aggressive player. I should have been skeptical. Hoas777 checked and I bet out $7, which he flat called. At this point I was thinking that he doesn't have anything like a pair in his hand and I put him on AQ. Pot was now $23.75 and came on turn. Now, hoas777 checks again and I bet $14. Hoas777 raised me to his all-in, $42.75. That was another $28 for me to call, and being already in the pot with about the same amount and putting hoas777 on AQ I decided to call (don't forget the tilt factor). River came which was a scary card after our pot commitment since now there was a pretty possible straight on board. I know that for a moment I thought that hoas777 is holding 77 in his hands and has now a straight. Anyway, my read on the guy was wrong. He was actually holding and took the pot of $106.25 and telling me that I am stupid for calling his raise on turn with nothing. Well, I would agree with him if I would have put him on KK or AA, but I didn't. Instead, I was thinking that he has either AK, AQ or even AJ and is trying to bully me out of the pot with that raise. Possible comments please.....

Hand replay - AK (+$44.45)

Well, since I am posting hands today like a maniac, it is only appropriate to post a hand than won me the most at one time.
***
This hand was played at $50 NL Full Ring table (blinds $0.25/$0.50) at Party Poker. At this time, there were only 5 players siting at the table (me included).
I had on Small Blind with $40.57 in front of me. Player Under the Gun (his name is fatsard) with $68.17 in front of him called, and next one (prycey_) who had $30.88 raised to $1.50. Button folded and I re-raised to $4. Now, Big Blind (gigiache) called, fatsard called and prycey_ folded. I knew from my Poker Tracker that gigache was a fish, and fatsard was Loose-Aggressive/Aggressive. Original raiser, prycey_ was Tight-Passive/Aggressive and since he folded I guessed that he had an Ok hand but didn't feel it was good enough for my re-raise. I didn't have position but I had a great card. I was a bit confused that my re-raise was so easily called in two places, but still, knowing the type of the players and some of my earlier described hands, it was a good situation to try and take them down with some luck. There was $13.50 in the pot, and flop came . It was exactly what I wanted to see because I didn't trust them to be such players to come in with 34 or something similar. So, I bet out $12, and gigiache folded but the LAA fatsard flat called. Now, I knew he doesn't have the 34, and even if he had some straight drawing hand, I was making it very expensive for him to chase it. With any Ace lower than mine he was beaten unless he had or chased 2nd pair. The turn came and I bet out All-In for $24.82 into the $37.50 pot. Interestingly enough, I got called by fatsard. The river card was a beauty to my eyes since now I had top two pairs. At showdown I showed my paired AK, and fatsard showed me his . I know it was a good feeling to see such passivity from a normally loose aggressive guy, and it definitely was a good feeling to take home the pot of $85.14...

Hand replay - KQ (-$26.78)

Here is another hand that I played. Again the infamous KQ for me.
***
This hand was played at $25 NL Full Ring table (blinds $0.10/$0.25) at Party Poker.
I was Under The Gun with . I called and everybody folded to the button who raised to $1.25. Player's name is vsx_t_royal and I haven't played with him before so I didn't know what type of player he really is. Both blinds folded and I called. Pot was $2.85 now and the flop came giving me a possible straight with a J and nothing much more. There was a threat from the possible flush draw, but I think I disregarded it since I was heads up with the button. Even though I was off position, I tried to stab and get the pot right now by bluffing (you can possibly call that a semi bluff, but I am not sure) by betting $2.50 in the head. Button raised me to $6 and of course I should have folded the hand right here because that was more than enough information for me to realize that I was most certainly beaten. I re-raised to $12 thinking that I still might get something out of this. Vsx_t_royal called my re-raise so the pot grew to $26.85. The turn came giving a possible flush, but I still didn't believe it too possible and I bet all-in for $13.53. I got flat called, and the river came for a definite flush possibility. Vsx_t_royal showed and took away the $51.26 pot with what was a nuts pair on flop and a very strong flush draw. I realize that this was another donkey move by me, but still, I am sharing this with my readers. What I know now (or think I know) is that even though I bet too much on flop (a slightly lesser bet would be OK is what I think now), I HAD to fold after the guy raised me over the top. I had nothing to do in that pot and really should have even thanked the guy for raising me so strong. Now, this would be an automatic fold for me even before flop, but If I somehow got involved and payed to see the flop, it would be an automatic fold on flop after a stab and vsx_t_royal's raise. Any comments are welcome...

Hands replay - KQ (-$11.15)

I got fired up doing this, so I will post another KQ hand right away. This is the last one from the KQ losing series.
***
The game was played at $50 NL Full Ring Table (blinds $0.25/$0.50) at Party Poker.
I was on Big Blind with and $84.50 in front of me, which made me rather comfortable at this point. It was folded all the way to the 2nd place off the button, a player named microfish4 for whom I knew (according to my Poker Tracker) was Tight Passive/Aggressive which basically means that he plays only top or good hands, doesn't raise pre-flop and if he hits, he is aggressive. He had $11.15 in front of him. Well, now he raised to $2 pre-flop. Everybody folded and I called for another $1.50. You can already see how this is wrong, even though I believe that at that moment I was thinking something like "he is short stacked and very tight and passive pre flop... maybe he is trying to steal with such a raise or really has something since he is tight...maybe I can bust him now and he won't cost me too much If I lose... maybe maybe maybe". Anyway, the flop came and there was $4.25 in pot. Here, I checked since I didn't have any diamonds but I had a top pair. The guy, microfish4, bets $4 and I call. The pot is now $12.25 and the turn comes . Microfish4 had $5.15 left, and this time I bet $6 trying to make him fold, but of course, he called with his all-in $5.15. River came creating a possibilities for a straight with an 5 8, straight with 8 J and a straight with JQ not to mention the potential flush that was opened on flop. Anyway, I opened my pair of kings, and microfish4 showed me his for his three of a kind. He took $22.30 in this pot. This is actually the hand that I am most interested in hearing comments about even though I got nailed by my own mistake again, but I think it is not SO idiotic as the previous hands I posted, although it is not far from them either to be honest. Cheers....

Hand replay - KQ (-$50.95)

After some thinking, I decided to start posting and replaying hands from my Poker Tracker including all the relevant known information. For this little experiment I will start posting only hands with which I lost most of the money. I don't know yet the real reason for doing this other than it might help someone not make the same play or mistakes I did, and hopefully someone will see this and won't be shy enough to post a comment, advice or critic. I believe that hand moves represented here will range from total idiotic fish donkster moves to a bad beat or two. You be the judge...
***
This is probably the worse play that I ever did and therefore, I believe it is appropriate to start this with it. Let's start.
This hand was played on $50 NL Full ring table (blinds $0.25/$0.50) at Party Poker.
I was second off the button with and there was a new player in the game to my left (cutoff seat) who also posted big blind (his name is Gary_keen). Player Under The Gun (Pulda8) raised to $2.50. I had absolutely no read on this player at that time (now I know that he is typical tight aggressive/aggressive) and as it was folded to me and I decided to call. Everybody else folded, and it was me and Pulda8 heads up. So, now there is $6.25 in the pot and the flop came giving me a top pair with a good kicker and backdoor straight draw. Pulda8 bets $5.50 and I call confidently. The pot is now $17.25. comes on the turn and Pulda8 bets again, this time $14. I know that I should have realized that something is very wrong for me at this moment, but still, I decided to call again since I figured that I have both the top pair with good kicker and a straight draw. At that time, I wasn't thinking too much about the possibilities for the hand he was holding. The river came leaving me with top pair, no straight and a lot of trouble. The pot is $45.25 and Pulda8 now bets his all-in which is $31.15 and for some reason and disbelief I decided to call with my own all-in which at that moment was $28.95. Ahh.. Needles to say that at the showdown Pulda8 shows and takes away the $102.35 pot. Now, I realize that this was a total donk move by me, but still, I decided to write it here and hopefully I will receive some comments on this hand. Shortly, there will be another hand posted... cheers

Some thoughts after friendly poker discussion..

I was at the Grand Casino at Sheraton yesterday. I didnt play. A picture to prove that I was at least there..
Action in Grand Casino I just watched and mingled with whom I think are more experienced players then me, and I must say, it was a nice experience because I got to listen and participate in some rather interesting conversations about strategy, game fluctuations (not the ups and downs) and the approach. Thing is, I am ready to learn and I am not afraid of the information that I will receive in the course of my learning. I will talk to anybody about poker and I will honestly try and discuss with them the ideas and ways of playing a game. It seems to me that some of the people with whom I spoke are still putting an awful lot stress on mathematics in poker, which I agree, is important, but it is just the basics of poker play. I currently dont think that if you play your game robot like mathematically correct you will be a winning player. Or better, I believe that you can be a winning player, and you can be a winning player for a long time, but my question is: how much will your game improve, and do you think that you will be able to cope with the players at the higher limit games? My point being, you can know what your pot odds are, you can know how much to bet, call or raise in a lot of situations, you can also know what your famous implied odds, and you can be great at value betting, but still you have to know when to drop or not play AA at all. You have to know when to fold a flopped full house because someone has a stronger one, or when you are really beaten in all the reraises that happened on turn. I think that players who know how to throw away second best hand in dubious situations, especially when their opponent has them covered with his bet or raise, are the true overall winners. My idea in thinking this way is that this kind of player will save himself a great piece of his/hers stack by folding at the right moment, that they will be able to later "compensate" and be on the up at the end of the day. If I come up with a more understandable explanation of what I am thinking about when I write this explanation, I definitely will - because I really believe that there is something to it.
***
I spoke to Djonjara and Vanja until late at night about the game and we commented on some of the local players we know and the way they play tournaments and cash games. Local tournaments seem to be so called "crap shots" because of their setting and structure. You start off with relatively low amount of chips, blinds go up relatively quickly and people are willing to call 60-40 out of position and whatever not shots like they are 70-30 in their favor. Since there is normally a cash game after the tournament ends, or when there are tables open, most of the people from the tourney go and play cash. Thing is, they don't change their game - at all. That's what we commented on (Djonjara, Vanja and me).. how some players don't have the basic understanding of the game and play the cash game like it is just another tournament. Some of these players tend to be very loud, frequent-talkers that tend to think thay know everything about the game there is to know. They get upset if they dont win the pot, and they celebrate madly if they suck someone out. Although these players can be irritating, I dont want them to leave since they are always "contributing" in some way. Barry Greenstein calls them "Wannabes" in his book "Ace on the river". For them, every cash game is just another tournament buy-in and they act accordingly. That is probably because they have majority of their money from elsewhere (either parents or work they do) and they don't really (deep inside) care what will be with their poker in long term.
***
During the tournament I also spoke to Sasha and Martin (just names, and nicknames of the people from Zagreb poker scene which might mean something to you in the future), and since they are on a somewhat bigger bankroll and higher limit games than I am, it was definitely interesting to hear what they had to say. Basically, Sasha's approach is more theoretical than Martin's from what I could decipher, but it is also somewhat "tighter" and with less gambling like tendencies. Of course, I am not saying that Martin is a "loose" maniac who decides his moves on flip of a coin, of course not, but I want to say that although when listening to these guys talk you can say that they have similar views and playing strategies, some subtle differences and their manner of explanation shows that they are in the end two very different type of players. One interesting thing I heard them speaking about was about bluffing on the river with over the top all-in move on the possibly dangerous board for the opponent. They were stunned by the amount of times (we are talking a lot of hands for an average) they would be called with a hand overpair on such a dangerous board, and where they lost. They are also claiming that poker has become a lot tougher since there are no more Americans allowed to play - yes, there are "American friendly" sites, but Americans that play there are winning players because the US Legislation concerning online gambling prohibits any monetary transfers from or to online gambling sites meaning that the American players that are still playing at these sites are not making regular deposits, but rather win enough money or even break even that they don't have to, and still be able to play online for few months now after the legislation is imposed). So, the point is that online poker has become much much tougher than it was few months ago, and that strategy tendencies vary and change very quickly now because of the different influx and types of players prevailing at online poker rooms.

Chelsea, Chelseaaa, Chelsea, Chelseeeeaaaaa

Haha, I am just glad how Chelsea played their game against Porto in Portugal. I kind of envisioned that it will be a difficult game, and I was hoping for either a win or a draw with a goal scored so in the end I am satisfied with the 1-1 result. More optimism to my words come from the fact that Shevchenko scored a very important goal and played really really well, which is great news for Chelsea fans. Of course, as this whole season, when someone plays well for Chelsea, something bad happens to some other Chelsea players, like for instance today, Shevchenko proved he can play great for Chelsea and that he really is an asset, but on the other hand, Chelsea lost their skipper John Terry due to the new injury so things kind of found a way to balance themselves.... all in greater favor of Chelseas great nemesis Manchester United who I can see have no injury troubles, and still can't get more distance in the English Premier League than the lousy 6 points.... and they are claiming that their game is at a high.. hahaha... great for Chelsea I hope... Anyway, I cant see ManUtd doing anything more serious than passing to another stage against Lille, but more than that I don't think they are capable for, unless of course the draw for the next stage offers them an easiest pick left from not so weak bunch...
***
On other games... I am glad that Barcelona lost to Liverpool, and I think Liverpool well deserved to win or at least get a draw there... I think Chelsea's last game at Nou Camp was better, but I also think that Barca was much better then..... and without problems in the dressing room.. Anyway, I am glad Liverpool won and I think that it will be an interesting return leg. I was always saying that their manager Rafael Benitez is an awesome manager for Champions League for some reason, but not the highest class for domestic leagues........ blah.. Nice win L'pool...

I think that in a day or two I am coming back to actively playing poker... of course - at Full Tilt... as I said, this is my poker room of choice now.. See why for yourself... RB11

Yuck day...

I don't know if it's the same for you, but today is awful. My head aches, I am slightly depressed, very nervous, coughing and feeling itchy. Thank Ohm that I am going to the regular basketball game with friends today, otherwise I think I might do something stupid.... although there is always time to do something stupid. I am avoiding conversation with my parents today because I know where it can lead. Of course, that advice wouldn't help them as they started barking on one another from the early morning.
***
I was thinking watching the game (Bayern-Real Madrid) today, but I kind of don't have any interest in watching that today, part of the reason being that I don't like watching and hearing about Bayern very much. I think it's the part of me that lived in Austria that is so revolted against that club because those Austrians spend more time on sports TV talking about a German club (Bayern of course) than they do about their own clubs and achievements (if there are any). I never really understood that because word is that Austrians don't like Germans very much, or at all.. And yet, when it comes to sports I think Austrians would rather watch Germany than Austria in a competition. Why is that? Anyway, I would have watched Chelsea if there would be a live feed, but this way, I'll rather go to the basketball game and get all my current frustration out while playing...

Lady in the water

I just watched the movie and I must say that this is probably the only movie that I have ever watched that has touched me so deeply. I dont know. Maybe I am under influence right now, being big fan of Shyamalans movies and all, but honestly, this was awesome on some completely different level. I really felt it. I dont know how Shyamalan makes this, but he is doing a spectacular job if you're asking me... I heard that the reviews and critics for this movie were not good at all, and on some level I can understand why someone would say that this movie is not good but from my viewpoint, I would say that they either missed something or saw themselves in the critic guy from the movie... I dont really want to go on and explain myself why I feel this movie IS good, and why I think someone might be wrong in not seeing and feeling like me... No need for that. For all I care, everybody else on earth might as well hate the movie, but I am glad that it is made, that I saw it, and that it touched me profoundly..... That's all I am going to say about that..

no poker .. just music..

I think I wont play poker today.. at all... I will instead go to the concert in Boogaloo where bosnian-croatian famous rapper is performing with his band.. If you are from these parts then you know that it's Edo Maajka. My luck is that Djonjara is the drummer in the band so there are more reasons than just good music for me to go to the concert. I guess that the concert begins at around 10pm so there will be plenty of time for me to do something else (read I guess) until the time for the concert comes... Hopefully it will be good, and later, after the gig I guess we can go either play snooker or drink somewhere since it is friday... I just don't really know where to go on friday nights, or saturday nights for that matter... I constantly feel that there aren't enough places for young people in Zagreb to go and "relax" ... Anyway.. I'll go and do something useful now.....

I took some rest from internet poker...

For the last 4 or 5 days I haven't touched internet poker. Why? Well, because it drained me both physically and monetary. A week ago I got nailed twice, as I already wrote, but during the weekend I got sucked out so many times that I finished my internet poker career for now with $10. All sorts of crazy things happened to me, and I was outdrawn in every hand that gave even a remote possibility to nail me... And I mean every hand. Whatever I had got cracked. Figuratively speaking, I think I lost like 75% or more hands due to sucking out or ridiculous outdrawing... So I decided not co come close to the internet poker for few days, and today, again I sat down and started playing in some mini steps tournament (as you win them or finish 1st or 2nd you progress to the higher step and in the last step you get to earn some money) because Djonjara suggested to me that I try them out as the 1st step costs only $3 and with my $10 I really don't have anything smarter to do... Oh, just to go back a few days when I played $5+$1 PL Freezout with 200 people..... I finished 24th and first 20 got the money. Why I finished 24th?. Well, take a lucky guess. Let's just say that i had K4 on BB and flop came 3K6 rainbow. I bet pot, guy calls. Next card is 5 which gives me additional straight draw. I bet 3/4 pot, and guy calls again, aand mind you, he didnt have more chips than me. River came 4 for my 2nd pair and I bet again, and you know what, I get a raise from a guy. I decided to call just to see what the hell was he doing all the way to the end to find out he had A2o chasing either an ace or a straight (which he in the end got). Few hands later i have A8 (dead man's hand apparently) and raise (I was on the button). Guy from the big blind calls me and flop comes 4A5. Guy checks, I bet, he calls. Turn comes another A. Now he bets straight in the head and I raise him all in. He calls with A6 and you can guess what comes on the river... exactly... 6... for him to complete the full house and for me to go home 4 places from the money after I played very good the whole tour. So, that was really the breaking point, the point where I decided to stop playing internet poker for some time. ... But, as it happens, Djonjara told me about "steps" and I decided to play them. But again I got sucked out in step 2 and have to start from step 1 again and it is taking its mental toll on me so I am again going to take a rest. As for the live game (post below mentions tournament in Casino Vega in Hotel Sheraton in Zagreb), I decided to pull a hand brake for the time being since my bankroll (I dont actually have one) doesn't allow me to go to these tournaments regularly and play cash games regularly (other than the cheap home ones in which I featured just few days ago and it was successful even though the 3 times i had KK they got cracked by a cheap ace), so I decided to play both live and online when I will have more nerves and more significantly, cash... bang

i got nailed... twice..

Beginning of the tournament. Dejan (blue) and Djonjara (vest)...

So.. to the snooker we went.. And then to the tournament.. There were only about 20 people in the tournament, and that is what the expected turnout was. I got the tougher table of the two because there were very tight and very aggressive players at the table so I had to pick my spots and wait when to strike. I managed to break even for some time but then the killer hand came to me. I got JJ in small blind. There was like 7 limpers, and amongst them was the currently huge chip leader of the tournament, who I know plays only strong hands (especially now that he is a chip leader... his logic, not mine) so I decided not to gamble and also just call to see the flop. Flop came 33T which wasn't really something that I wanted to see but wasn't bad either. I checked, and all checked up to the chip leader. He bet out 300 (blinds were 30-60) so I figured that he just wants to pick up this pot with a strong ace. I called and the turn was something I didnt want to see at all, another Ten. Fine I said, I checked again and chip leader (Dejan is his name) bets 600. I was thinking for a few moments and went all in with 1200 hoping that he doesnt have a Ten. He called of course and showed me not so pretty sight ... AT. So, basically, only a J on the river would have saved me, but instead another Ten came to fill the chip leaders Four of a Kind. I wasnt too upset that I went out of the tourney. I was more upset with the fact that I lost my 100€ on cash game thanks to the player that calls POT Bet on flop with lowest pair and one overcard, and then gets trips on the river, and a nice drunk guy who plays every hand but when I raise POT preflop (which is by then my all in) he calls me with TT on my 66. I didnt stand a chance. So, thus, I got nailed... twice...

tourney in Vega...

Today is a nice tournament that I was writing about few posts back... The one with €50+5 buy-in at the new place (at least for poker) in Zagreb. I think it starts at 8pm which gives me another 6-7 hours to prepare mentally since I haven't featured in a "normal" tournament for some time now. I had an opportunity to go to €100+15 tournament in Vienna some two weeks ago where I was with my friend and fellow poker player Djonjara (smokin), but I decided against it because I really wasn't feeling like playing that tourney, even though I probably had to... both for experience, and for myself... To see where I am at right now.. These Zagreb (thursday, friday) tournaments don't give that accurate a picture about someone's "worth", but still, they are good to participate in.... not that I even once participated in the friday one... and this will be my first time in Vega... Well, I will probably play online until the time comes for me to go to the tourney.... I am trying to get back up from a serious knockdown that I received the last 2 days, and I must say that it is much harder then what I was thinking it will be. Still, there is a lesson to be learned, and hopefully, by the end of the day I will know what it was.. lol ... Anyway, I was losing some today also but I managed to cut my loss, and actually finish few bucks up last session which gives me confidence for the later grinding.. which is exactly what it is.. grinding... headbang ... So, now I have to do some work around the house, and then its back to the comp for more online play...

*********

Ok.. time is drawing closer..... I am playing online... not doing too well... I decided that I will stop playing large tables (10 people) and switch to 6-max which are wilder but at least you don't get so many of the guys waiting for top 5 cards in order to play them it gets increasingly frustrating looking at AK geting nailed by KK or AA... I guess I need a break from the bigger tables for a few days..
Anyway, my mate Djonjara is coming to pick me up and we are gonna go play some Snooker (not pool, snooker) before the tournament just to relax a bit and build up the competitive atmosphere for the tournament... oh oh oh ... sorry... i just got my first ever (i think) straight flush on Party Poker... So, to continue... We will go play some snooker and then of to Vega...
Wish us (or just one of us) luck dear reader.. p.s. I hope will take a picture or two from the tournament to post here...
