S70 - The cameras that got away
I had the limited edition Fuji Klasse W in my hands a few weeks ago. Just one shop in Hong Kong had them, as far as I know. A tiny little shop, crammed with old and new digital and film cameras and lenses. My Fuji Natura Black came from that shop, and I was eager to see what the Klasse W was like.
Wrapped in clear plastic like so many other items in Hong Kong, it was pretty big. Bigger than my Natura Black, longer, taller, and heavier. You can see how much bigger it is next to the cute Natura Classica.
It was selling for about AUD$1000 or so. Yeesh. $1000 for a 28mm f2.8 luxury film compact, as if I don't have some great film compacts (Contax T3, Natura Black) already. And that T3 sure wasn't cheap, either.
I just couldn't do it. Even the 'Super EBC Fujinon' markings on the lens didn't tip the money-scales for me.
But now I'm home, and I'm thinking again. Stupid, I know. My beautiful T3 is only 35mm eq, and I love wider angle lenses. My Natura Black is 24mm but distorts strangely in some situations. The Klasse W might be the film equivalent of my Canon S70, maybe even better (in relation to film)?
Ah, the choices we make. Maybe I'll buy a Classica; about one quarter the price of the Klasse W!

You really have to study this picture. Best viewed at full size.
This was shot on the Canon S70 digital camera in RAW mode (as always). It was then put through the channel mixer and dodged and burned in PS CS2.
