Mrs. Pollifax on Safari

Mrs. Pollifax on Safari

"Mrs. Pollifax is the American cousin to Agatha Christie's Miss Marple."
TORONTO STAR
Mrs. Pollifax has been sent on safari by the C.I.A. and told only to take pictures of all of her companions, in order to find the international assassin whose next target is the president of Zambia. It sounded so simple, but shortly after Mrs. Pollifax started taking pictures, someone stole her film. And right after that she was kidnapped by Rhodesian terrorists. And right after that--well, read for yourself....

Young Lady

Young Lady

She was born in my house beside my bed during a night of long labor, the family gathered round waiting, praying and looking forward to meet the newest member of...us.

The surreal sensation of my daughter, (who will always remain at least in some part a little girl to me) giving birth to a child....was a "holy crap how did THIS happen???" moment.

But the baby she birthed that night had a birthday a few weeks ago.

We took her out, Sheree and I, to the trendy side of town for her birthday. She had her new camcorder in hand and was hunting pictures with us, looking for secret images in the world.

She is becoming an intelligent young lady with a powerful artistic sense and her own ideas about what is beautiful. I like that...and I find it sort of sad too.

Ah well.

I felt a groundswell of emotion watching her on a photo safari with the two of us. She seems so grown up to me. I sort of wish she'd stop growing...and even as I say that, I realize I can hardly wait to see what kind of woman she will become.

As I write this, the random mix on Sheree's iPod starts playing "Sunrise Sunset."

"When did she get to be a beauty...wasn't it yesterday when she was small?"

*sigh*

This image is for you, Special K. Happy Birthday, sweet girl.

two-hundred and fifty-four (zoo safari) of 365

two-hundred and fifty-four (zoo safari) of 365

We realized on Saturday just how beautiful the whole weekend would be, so we decided that rather than stay indoors all weekend working around the house, we'd get out and do something. So we went to the Milwaukee County Zoo again. We missed a lot the last time, it was kind of cold and Owen fell asleep halfway through. So this time we made a point of getting a map and seeing more. We had a lot of fun.

Owen watched the people more again, but he did love the Cheetahs. One was pacing back and forth just 5 feet away behind the glass, and Owen screeched like crazy and got completely worked up. All-in-all it was a great day. He fell asleep after about 3 hours there, woke up happy when we went for custard, got crabby again later, and took a good 2 hour nap in the evening before sucking down a bottle and going to bed for the night. So I think we wore him out...

Jungle Doctor on Safari

Yet again the Jungle Doctor is in the thick of a battle for people’s lives. There is so much that good medicine can do to tackle injuries and disease yet local customs and superstition hold back the hospital staff at one mission hospital from saving one woman’s life. The doctors and nurses have to work in poor operating conditions with very limited equipment and drugs but despite everything other lives are saved! However, sometimes it seems that everything is going wrong; especially when the old hospital car continues to break down. But throughout it all the Jungle Doctor and his staff know that God answers prayer!
