Paige must be one of the luckiest little girls when it comes to holiday - especially Christmas. Thanks in part to my diverse family history (marriages, divorces, re-marriages, etc.), and Marna's close-knit family and their traditions, Paige gets to celebrate the holidays no less than three times! Today was the first for Christmas 2005, when Grandpa Rich and Grandma Janelle stopped by with gifts.

The first gift was for Paige and was a brand new tricycle! Last year she didn't know what to do about wrapping paper - heck, she couldn't even sit up yet - but with a little guidance from the grandparents, it wasn't long before she was tearing at the gift. Of course recognition of letters and words, and the pictures on the box themselves are a far ways away, so Paige was mostly confused after the paper came off.

The next gift was for Marna and I, and was a new tool set. I could go on about the poor quality of our now previous "tools", but I digress. Of course the first task for the tools was assembly of the tricycle. I'm about as incapable with tools as it gets, so most everybody enjoyed watching my attempted assembly. After some tune-up from Grandpa, the tricycle was ready.

Paige wasn't quite sure what to make of it at first, but after a few rounds of getting pushed about the house, she was quick in asking for "more please." It turns out that she's a little shy of the pedals, so in the interim, she's adult-powered. Great gifts, Grandma and Grandpa! Now for my birthday I'll take a bottle of Advil for my lower back (smile)!

Sofie got a new bike for xmax. Not a tricycle, but and actual bike with
training wheels. Nana and james gave it to her. When we got back from
carmel sofie and I put it together. She was very helpful and very
patient, holding the differnet parts and tools until we needed them. I
put sof on the seat to adjust the height, which was basically the lowest
position. When I finally had the training wheels on and the whole thing
was ready to go, I put her on the seat and showed her to put each foot
on a pedal. As she tried, we realized that she was abot 2 inches short.
When she realized this, her eyes swelled up with ters and she started
crying. She so much wants to ride a "big girl" bike. We then went
downstairs to find shoes with big soles, to hopefully give her enough
lift to reach the pedals. We put these on, but the were still a bit shy
of the pedals and somewhat awkward to wear and try to ride. To alleviate
things a bit, I pushed her around the living room while she worked on
her steering. My guess is that she'll be ready to ride in a few months,
perhaps by her second birthday...
