Peace In Africa T Shirts

The second day in my four day stay in Samecouta, Senegal, I was able to help Sadia, my host brother, put a bicycle in working order that a Peace Corps volunteer gave him.
It was the first time during my stay where I was actually able to be useful and show him a few things, like how to straighten out the wheels by tightening and loosening the spokes with a tool he had that he didn't know what it was for. It was one of the highlights of my short stay there.
The next day he was able to ride his new bike into Kedougou (7km away) to do something for his school.
It was interesting to see how a bike is literally a means of leaving the village, not that he wants to leave, but if he did, he wouldn't even really have a chance.
Now he can more easily ride to the land where the community grows crops or go pick up things his family might need that are in the larger town of Kedougou.

"This is a traditional Sunday brunch in Baga. My two neighbors (6 km and 12 km respectively) are John Elmer on the left in the Evala T-Shirt, and Jennifer Rubin on the right in the red dress. The man sitting is Patrick, the Frenchman that lives below me, whose motorcycle I borrow but who I try to ignore otherwise. The other 2 people are Jeff Coupe and Debbie Hamlin, both from Kante and both VERY nice people. The sun was very strong that day: notice the beers and Debbie covering her head."
