Paleokastritsa
Paleokastritsa is a picturesque holiday resort set beneath the rugged hills on the Corfu's west coast. The town has breathtakingly beautiful views and startlingly crystal clear waters, and backed by sheer cliffs covered in olive groves and cypress trees.
Overlooked by the ruined fortress Angelokastro (Venetian ‘Castrizza San Angelo’) from which it takes its name, the resort today covers a large area, with holiday accommodation scattered around among the olive groves on the hillside, and alongside the winding coastal road.
From our balcony, Paleokastritsa, Corfu Island
Paleokastritsa sits at the northwest coast of Corfu Island. Once a fishing village, the coastal road to the harbour sits high above sea level with resorts of all sizes and family run accommodation and tavernas strung out for about 2 kilometres. Not at all overrun by tourism (in May, when we were there), the coast is dotted with sandy bays perfect for swimming, and there are hiking trails to mountain villages.
