The first post office was at 60, High Street. Which was also the shop of James Bowtell. Redeveloped and became Joscelyne's furniture store.
In the Census of 1891 the Post Office in the High Street was run by the postmaster Benjamin Portway. With him was his wife Laura and one servant.
There was no house number given but was on the schedule between 90 and 88 High Street.
