Chimney Stack Repair
- A very large and tall chimney used by utilities, commercial and industrial installations, and large apartment houses. There may be several flues in a single chimney stack.
- The part of a chimney that projects above a roof
- The chimneystack is the freestanding section of the chimney, above the roofline. Being exposed to the elements as is the part most liable to wear and tear. The wealthier the owner the more elaborate the chimneystack.
- A chimney is a structure for venting hot flue gases or smoke from a boiler, stove, furnace or fireplace to the outside atmosphere.

I have to say, this looked liked the botchiest botch job ever when I saw these guys, sitting in the bucket of their digger with all their materials, banging away at the chimney stack of this very old and vaguely historically significant cottage.
Later on I went to have a closer look and got talking to a lovely old man who volunteers as a member of the trust which looks after the cottage and opens it to visitors every summer. Although it isn't open yet he still gave a little tour in his lilting Welsh accent. And he explained that when thatched buildings are rethatched, as they must be every few years, you don't remove the old thatch, you just put a new layer on top. The problem with this is that eventually there isn't enough clearance between the top of the roof and the top of the chimney stack. So what these two men were doing was raising the height of the stack by nine inches following a recent rethatching.
