Gold Trinity Knot Pendant

Throughout Ireland and Scotland, the Celts crafted these magnificent symbols in stone. Celtic Crosses predate Christianity and were first used by pagans to worship the sun. In pagan times the circle of the Celtic Cross represented the Sun, being the center of their lives. It was not until the 4th Century AD when it was introduced by the first Christian Roman Emperor Constantine, that the Celtic Cross was used to represent Christ's victory. During the great conversion of many pagans to Christianity, Christian philosophers adapted the Celtic Cross, and taught the meaning of the circle to represent Christ, the center of Christianity.

Trinity knots and triangular knot

The right and bottom designs are examples of Trintiy knots, traditional Celtic interlace designs that symbolise the Holy Trinity (and before Christianity some other trinity).
The design on the right is a double interlace of one Trinity knot inside another.
The bottom design is a single Trinity knot interlaced with a pentagon.
The design on the left is a slightly more complicated triangle that suggests a double interlace.

I've been collecting Christmasy type fabrics for years, knowing that some day I'd find the perfect scrappy project for them. This is it! It's all done in 9-patches and I'm loving it! These are the first blocks - there are 25 in all, then 3 borders.
