In December 2010, Candice Moncayo, a young woman, was attacked on these trails while she was jogging but managed to fight off the attacker, John Albert Gardner III. The attack was vicious: with the intent to rape, rob, and kill. She busted up his nose and got away, so did he.

Nobody warned me about going for a walk in the same park. I am/was the same height and weight as Chelsea King and I lived right next to the park. After being laid off several times in a row, I found myself with free time to go for runs and hikes. There were signs warning of cougars and rattlesnakes, but not a sexual predator still on the loose. Two months later, Chelsea King, 17, finished school for the day decided to run in the park. She was a straight A student, active community volunteer, a great writer and all around beautiful good woman. The park is a beautiful bit of land, (complete with ancient Indian rock paintings that were meant for girls to contemplate the passage into womanhood) and very inviting with perfect Spring weather for Southern California. She was attacked, raped, and strangled to death, then buried in a shallow grave by the lake.

I live nearby and have been affected by this case deeply. I went hiking in Escondido, and noticed the missing signs of 14 year old Amber Dubois, the day after she was taken by the same killer while she walked to school. I want to know how these things happen and what I can do about it. The killer has many characteristics and it frightens me to think how many angry, misogynistic sociopaths, with no remorse, empathy or sense of responsibility, like him walk and work amongst us. The guy had a girlfriend and kids, a family, coworkers...

This case involves a lot of information that is useful for the wellbeing of our future society. Knowledge is power and I think the community, and women especially must come together to understand and heal. The killer is one of us, and as a community we are just as responsible for the evil breeding in its members.

I've been grumpy lately. Here's some things I realized:

Living a fun life should be admired more than living a safe life. You don’t win the game of life by living the longest.

Being sensitive is less important than being truthful. So stop telling your fat friends that they’re beautiful just the way they are. Give it to them straight. Help them loose weight, don't just lie to their faces.

Stop putting how hard your day was in your facebook statuses. Your life is going to consist of at least 10,000 bad days. Get over it.

Having everyone like you is not an accomplishment. There is not a single person in any history book that was loved by everyone. If you want to change the world, alot of the people you know are going to dislike you.

There is nothing romantic about marrying your high school sweetheart, or getting married when you are 19. It just proves that you would rather be with someeone who makes you comfortable than happy.

Not all children are cute. Some of them are actually really ugly.

If you march in a demonstration that says that gay marriage is a sin and that gay people are going to hell, you're going to hell.

Remaining a virgin until you are married (on purpose) is not only unremarkable, but also pathetic.

The worst example of sexism today is in our rape laws. If a man and a woman are both drunk and have sex, the man can be charged with rape. do drunk men have the mental capacity to intend to rape, but drunk women don’t have the mental capacity to consent to sex?

Being proud of your race or religion is stupid. Being Irish, Italian, Black, or Jewish is not an achievement, so you shouldn’t be proud of it. It was an accident of birth. It is the same as saying “I’m proud to have green eyes.”

If you ask someone "what's wrong?" actually listen to their answer. It doesn't make you a good person just for asking.
