Day Twelve: Hulia's Chicken Noodle Soup

Day Twelve: Hulia's Chicken Noodle Soup

Hulia's Chicken Noodle Soup

Yeild: one big bowl, or two small bowls.
//Feeds one hungry college student

Ingredients:
1 boneless skinless chicken thigh, cubed
// You could use chicken breast, but from one poor college student to another, chicken thighs are half the price
1 cube Veggie stock
? cup noodles
// any kind will do, I use rotini cause I like the twisty noodles ;p
? cup fresh green beans cut into thirds
1 small red potato
// I used these because they happened to be cheap,
// I guess you could use whatever is cheap at your store
dashes and sprinkles of:
garlic powder
salt
pepper
Italian seasoning
// I think it is a blend of oregano, basil, rosemary... and other yummy things, but I think it is mostly oregano

Method:
Bring 1? cups of water with a dash of salt and garlic powder to a boil and put in your chicken. Let it cook for about five minutes while you chop your potato into small pieces, so it will cook quickly. Pull your chicken, spoon it out onto a place to hang out while you cook your noodles halfway. My noodles took eight minutes, follow half the time your box says. Now put your tiny taters in with your noodles and shake Italian seasoning (about ? of a teaspoon), some pepper and your veggie stock cube. Turn your stove down to medium heat. Let that cook for ten minutes. Pop in your chicken and green beans for ten more minutes.

Results:
Yummy foods not from a can

Discussion:
Yay, your a college student with your own place. Boo, eating ramen all the time. Browse your produce section! I went to homeland and they bag up some variety packs of veggies for cheap. I grabbed a bag o potatoes and green beans because they are super yum. Soups are really easy to make from scratch. You can take whatever the heck you can find for cheap and get your food groups in. I splurge on seven grain noodles, because they are healthier. So my soup has Green veggies, Protien, Wheat, and yummy potaoes. Don't bother peeling your potatoes, especially if you have red potatoes. Ramble ramble. Happy Food Time!

University of Maryland students in the audience used wireless polling devices during U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan presentation of the “Know your Farmer Know your Food” initiative to students and faculty at the Animal Sciences / Agricultural Engineering Building at the University of Maryland, in College Park, MD, on Thursday, April 7, 2011. Deputy Secretary Merrigan’s interactive presentation utilized wireless polling in the lecture room to present questions to the audience who used handheld devices to choose from a list of multiple answers. Their answers were instantly tabulated, then Merrigan revealed their top choice on the screen, followed by the correct answer, usually revealing an error and misconceptions. Her talk covered support of local farmers; strengthening rural communities, promoting healthy eating, protecting natural resources; grants, loans and other support USDA provides as well as stories of innovation; industry and government cooperation; and careers opportunities in agriculture, ranching and the USDA.
