Longchamp
Longchamp, the French leather goods company, is perhaps best known for its Le Pliage line, a collection of foldable travel bags made of vinyl with leather trim; two billion Le Pliage bags have been sold since 1993. This lavish book retraces and celebrates the history of this famous company as it marks its 60th anniversary.
From its beginnings creating leather goods for smokers, to its expansion into small leather goods in the 1950s, to the opening of the first Longchamp boutiques in the 1970s and '80s, the company has always been known for quality and style. Today, Longchamp has cultivated a devoted following. Its partnerships with artists Thomas Heatherwick and Tracey Emin and advertising campaigns with supermodel Kate Moss have cemented the company's reputation as a stylish innovator.
In the early 1970s, Philippe Cassegrain, Longchamp's founder, designed a line of bags called "LM," destined for the Japanese market. Its success gave Longchamp a solid reputation as a creator of women's handbags and enabled the company to expand throughout the rest of Asia. Shipshape and Bristol Fashion
Everyone knows this famous old expression about Bristol in its heyday as one of the world’s greatest ports - and almost everyone gets it wrong when explaining what the saying really means. No, it does not, as most people think, serve as a compliment to the tidiness of yesterday’s seafaring Bristol and the smartness of its ocean going vessels, their rigging and their well turned out crews.
Instead this expression dates back to a time when the City Docks were tidal with a very nasty rise and fall of water the second largest in the world, which left ships stranded on sharp mud-banks when the level was low and which had their timber hulls groaning with the strain each tide brought. Any ship which fetched up in the port of Bristol needed a good, stout frame to withstand the sort of pressures a few days moored in Bristol involved.
If your boat wasn’t Shipshape and Bristol Fashion, then it was best to sail well clear of the old port. The alternative was a very expensive delay for repairs!

When I was a boy this was Owen Owen, with H. Samuel ~ The Empire's Largest Jewellers on the corner, and a small tobaccomist at the top of Cannon Street.
I have lost count of the number of businesses that have occupied the site since, and it has been closed for quite a while.
Now, it seems, JB Sports (who have been here before) and Banks Fashions are to take over the building.
