Theme Day: Taking Inventory
all of the following items in this photo, including the couch, i found either in/around a dumpster or abandoned on the side of the road in the past and now i use/eat/whatever on a daily basis in my home.
and as cool as it is to get free stuff, this photo goes to show you that there is a lot of perfectly good stuff thrown away everyday that someone out there could use or even really need. so before you throw away that slightly damaged bicycle or old mattress that taking up space in your room or whatever it may be, think about giving to a needy family on the block, putting it up on the free section of craigslist or even donating it to your local thrift store. thrift stores will gladly take your stuff, and usually give you a tax deductible voucher as well if the items are of value.
its a small world we live in and the last thing we need is more perfectly reusable trash.
Composting
Organic coffee production has to be fully ecological. Post-processing the refuse in Jarabacoa (Dominican Republic) results in three by-products: clean water (sent back to the Yaque del Norte river); biogas (reused to fuel the coffee roasting operations); and compost (seen here, a chemical-free, fully-natural fertilizer).
La produccion organica de cafe tiene que ser totalmente ecologica. El post-procesamiento de los desechos en Jarabacoa (Republica Dominicana) resulta en tres sub-productos: agua limpia (vertida en el rio Yaque del Norte); biogas (utilizada en las operaciones de tostado) y el compost (en la foto–un fertilizante plenamente natural, libre de quimicos).
