Wood Pinhole Camera Plans
- The most basic form of a camera in which no lens is used. A pinhole camera is made by making a lightight container and poking a pinhole in the front of the camera where a lens would go.
- A camera with a pinhole aperture and no lens
- A pinhole camera is a simple camera without a lens and with a single small aperture -- effectively a light-proof box with a small hole in one side. Light from a scene passes through this single point and projects an inverted image on the opposite side of the box.
- A camera whose lens is covered except for a pin-sized hole. You have a very small aperture, so you have to shoot long exposures.

Location: Diablo Lake Overlook - North Cascades National Park, Washington State
A self-portrait taken sometime shortly before 10pm. My plan was to relax and watch the stars from the Diablo Lake overlook while my camera captured star trails over Colonial and Pyramid Peaks. The conditions where perfect as there was not a cloud in the sky. Alas I forgot to factor in the half moon which took up residency just to the right of Pyramid Peak and its ability to light up the night sky.
I am sure those stars did come out in full force at some point that night. But after a long day of hiking I was to tired to tough it out and packed it in around 10:40pm. All was not lost though I got to watch the sun set over the lake as the last of the its rays danced across the Cascade Mountains. As an added bonus someone camping in a boat in sight down below on the lake was playing the bagpipes, the music bouncing off the mountain sides and all across the lake. It was a pleasant addition to the evening.

My new 8 X 10 large format, wide-angle, pinhole camera. I'm finishing it up this week. I plan to test it out with some paper later on this week. I hope it shoots as good as it looks. If you look closely, you can see the aperture under the S for Stout, that would be F361. Yes, if you recognize the metal, it came from a Murphy's beer can. Thank you professor Woods!
