    iron wall
  • The Iron Wall is a 2006 documentary film about the establishment of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which, the film argues, is a strategy for permanent occupation of the territory.

  • The Iron Wall (We and the Arabs) is an essay written by Ze'ev Jabotinsky in 1923. It was originally published in Russian, the language in which Jabotinsky wrote for the Russian press.

    art decor
  • Any type of artistic medium used to decorate a room. One of the most popular forms of art decor is wall art. Both framed and unframed pieces can add feeling and personalization to a home. Tapestries are also a type of art decor, as are sculptures, bowls, vases, and even chinaware.

The Wall: Growing Up Behind the Iron Curtain (Caldecott Honor Book)

A NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER

“I was born at the beginning of it all, on the Red side—the Communist side—of the Iron Curtain.” Through annotated illustrations, journals, maps, and dreamscapes, Peter Sis shows what life was like for a child who loved to draw, proudly wore the red scarf of a Young Pioneer, stood guard at the giant statue of Stalin, and believed whatever he was told to believe. But adolescence brought questions. Cracks began to appear in the Iron Curtain, and news from the West slowly filtered into the country. Sis learned about beat poetry, rock ’n’ roll, blue jeans, and Coca-Cola. He let his hair grow long, secretly read banned books, and joined a rock band. Then came the Prague Spring of 1968, and for a teenager who wanted to see the world and meet the Beatles, this was a magical time. It was short-lived, however, brought to a sudden and brutal end by the Soviet-led invasion. But this brief flowering had provided a glimpse of new possibilities—creativity could be discouraged but not easily killed.

By joining memory and history, Sis takes us on his extraordinary journey: from infant with paintbrush in hand to young man borne aloft by the wings of his art.

I sprayed chalkboard paint on this portion of panelling behind staircase. Also hanging is an "oops" toteback in which I did an iron on with one of my collages, but forgot to hit "mirror" in the photo software and thus the wording is backwards...lol...there are totes hanging throughout the studio/laundry room on nails...I love totes...I have too many...but that's another story...

Note that the Flame oval oven is now sporting its spiffy new metal knob! I am going to poach a nice big fish in that guy. The Tagine is very exotic looking, and I am looking forward to putting some lamb in it. Of course, everything is a different color.

The Berlin Wall Today: Remnants, Ruins, Remembrances. A new picture travel guide to the remainders of the Wall since the fall of the Iron Curtain and to memorials of World War II and the Cold War

The Berlin Wall Today is a richly illustrated full color book that takes the reader on a tour of the last traces and fading memories of the historic symbol of the Iron Curtain-to memorials, parks, hidden back yards, old train tracks, factory buildings, churches, and Prussian cemeteries. The Berlin Wall Today tells stories of struggle, desperation, survival, and rebirth and of a history that shaped the post- war world. It also shows how the people of Berlin are reclaiming and memorializing the ground where the Wall once stood: Mauer Park, where young people from all over world gather to party; a guard tower that is now the Museum of Forbidden Art; the Topography of Terror Museum, which includes the former Gestapo headquarters; and landmarks such as the Reichstag, the East Side Gallery, and Checkpoint Charlie. Numerous maps are included that lead the visitor from point to point.
