MANIC HISPANIC - The Recline Of Mexican Civilization
Manic Hispanic came together in the early 1990's as part of a work release program. The idea was formed by OC Probation Officer Freddie Gomez,"I thought if I could keep these guys on a stage, they would stay out of trouble on the streets." So far, so good. The plan has worked. Instead of a life of lock downs and orange jumpsuits, they are now playing sold out shows and busting out the jokes.These 7 vatos all have one thing in common - their love for classic punk rock. Manic Hispanic take the punk songs that they love but they add a large dose of barrio humor. Members of Manic Hispanic have been in and are currently in: The Adolescents, Cadillac Tramps, The Grabbers, Punk Rock Karaoke, The X-Members, 22 Jacks, Final Conflict, and Agent Orange.

Mijo Goes to Jr. College is the third collection of fun punk rock send-ups from the California collective Manic Hispanic. Consisting of members from such straight-ahead acts as Cadillac Tramps, the Adolescents, and the Grabbers, Manic Hispanic reworks well-known punk anthems with humorous lyrics that poke fun at Hispanic culture in California, as well as punk rock itself. For example, the Ramones' "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker" becomes "Creeper Is a Lowrider" and "Drinking About My Baby" by the Damned has been reimagined as "Trippin on Mi Ruca." While its title is a good-hearted swipe at the Descendents' Milo Goes to College, literate punk fans will really get a kick out of Mijo's Latino caricature of that album's classic cover art -- as well as the fictional, fanciful Manic Hispanic gig history that appears via fake fliers inside the CD booklet. While it's certainly a one-dimensional bit, Manic Hispanic's act succeeds largely because the outfit knows how hokey its act is, and lays the vato act on appropriately thick. Brief spoken interludes introduce most tracks and are peppered with goofs on the sometimes-much-too-serious Latino male community. At the same time, the outfit's spot-on musical chops make Mijo Goes to Jr. College an entertaining run through some classic punk rock riffing. Standouts include a remake of NOFX's "The Brews" -- "Cruise" -- celebrating chingas and jailhouse tattoos in the barrio, and "Brand New Impala," which installs hydraulics on Vince Taylor and the Clash's "Brand New Cadillac." ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide

Hblock101 - A Brief History...
Forming in early 1995, HBlock101 started playing around the Melbourne pub scene and was starting to gain recognition as one of the more energetic and entertaining bands to come out of what was a seemingly dull music circuit. Playing distinctively untrendy late 70s influenced punk rock, HBlock101 also mixed in alot of other influences ranging from reggae to soul and back - no rules or boundaries. From the start the band wanted to say something with their music and the socially aware lyrics lay testimony to this. Never wanting to preach to their audience, the band encourage people to question things and make up their own minds. The past few years have seen their music become more diverse and their lyrics increasingly analytical and thought provoking, in the process, creating something profoundly multi-faceted.
Between 1995 and 2002 H-Block101 have released 5 EPs, 2 7" vinyls, 2 albums plus a double album in early 2001, toured nationally and internationally and have played with the likes of: Citizen Fish (UK), S.N.F.U (Canada), Conflict (UK), Rose Tattoo (Australia), The Angels (Aust.), Rancid (USA), Mighty Mighty Bosstones (USA), Propaghandi (Canada), Varukers (UK), Hard Ons (Aust.),
Grinspoon (Aust.), Bouncing Souls (USA), You Am I (Aust.), etc...
After 18 months of legal hold-ups, things are back on track for HBlock101, with a new EP, "The Burning with the Times EP", just released in March 2004. After 2002's tour of Japan and strong interest in Europe with a tour planned for late 2004, the future is looking promising both in Australia and internationally...

positive old school sXe hardcore!
True Colors is one of the bands who keep the banner of old school hardcore high in Belgium and they do a mighty fine job. Along the lines of Youth Of Today and In My Eyes this band plays energetic old school hardcore as if their lives depend on it.
This band is so good that it is even better than their heroes Youth Of Today at times. They also compare themselves to Turning Point but I fail to hear that unfortunately. That, however, does not affect the pure class and quality of this CD. Go and get this people. Every second that you wait is a second wasted!

Deny Deny Everything was founded sometime around the summer of 2003 in
Cologne. Having played music together since school days, David (git.), Björn
(bass, voc.), Pablo (git./ voc.) and Christoph (drums) decided to start over
with a different musical approach and a new band name. After a phase of
writing new material and rehearsing, the band started playing every show they
could, including a short tour in August 03. By spring 04, Deny Everything
recorded a self produced demo-cd. More shows followed, as the band started
gaining a reputation due to their intense live-appearance and their
refreshingly old fashioned sound. Finally, in March 2005 Deny Everything hit
the Lauterstudio in Münster to record six fast and thrashy no-frills hardcore
blasts that were finally released in January 2006 on Rising Riot Records as
the bands debut e.p. The next months brought more shows, including tours
through Germany and Italy. Somewhere along the way Pablo decided to drop the
guitar to fully concentrate on his vocal duties, which led to a clearer sound
and a more energizing live-appearence. Besides, who needs two guitars,
anyway? During the summer the band spent time writing new material for a full
length which they started recording in August 2006 at Gernhart Studio in
Siegburg. The 15 songs (that clock in at just above 20 minutes) show that the
band has evolved a more focused song-writing while staying true to their
musical approach.

Hippies suck, so this 7" fucking rules. But no, seriously, this 7" does fucking rule. Six tracks of rockin', high energy hardcore/punk from Australia with shitloads of blazing rock riffs somewhat akin to Kiss sans the cheese or Motörhead with a lot more speed and raucous shouting vocals. Fuck, just check out the brief harmonica and totally rocked out lead break in "(I'm Living In) My Own Private Altamont", or the obviously fucking supreme cover of Black Flag's "Jealous Again"! This fucker shreds from start to finish and ends all too soon! And they've got a great recording: A solid bass presence, natural drums, dead on guitars and vocals, a perfect mix... It's loud as shit and totally in your face, perfect for what they're doing.

"So here's a quick rundown on how this project came about. I basically had these songs I've wanted to record for quite some time and I just never thought they worked in with the band I was doing, so they were put on the backburner. I approached Mike D and asked him if he would play guitar/bass and I would play drums/sing for a quick demo. Mike added some cool stuff to the songs and we managed to record 5 originals and 1 cover(Chaos by The 4 Skins). We are really excited about this, so we put up 2 songs which gives you an idea of our sound. In short, S.S.S.P.(Skinheads Still Scare People), is about Truth, Integrity, and Sincerity, which I feel has been falling off in the HC scene. We are 2 guys that love HC and I wanted to share my words and music with you."

What do you get when you combine guttural, rapid-fire vocals, a tough metallic guitar attack, a funhouse horn section and muscular drumming that borders on polka for the insane? It's nothing but the Voodoo Glow Skulls, a great punk rock band that happens to play very fast songs with horns. Voodoo Glow Skulls concocted their infectious mixture of punk, metal, ska and Latino music thirteen years ago and proceeded to distill it into a poisonous brew of propulsive rock n roll that has driven audiences wild around the globe. Voodoo Glow Skulls are back with "Steady As She Goes" an album they are particularly proud of, as they produced it themselves in their own studio. The title track symbolizes the journey of Voodoo Glow Skulls while the years have been filled with ups and downs, the band faces the future with optimism and their usual twisted sense of humor. "Steady As She Goes" contains twelve raucous tracks, two in Spanish and (in keeping with their tradition) one cool cover, 60s chestnut Little Red Riding Hood, made famous by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs. These great new tracks explore everything from racial/ghetto politics ("High Society", "The Rat Traps", "Nada En La Cabeza") to the outrageous fun of the Voodoo Glow Skulls live show ("Voodoo Anthem"), from Mexican mythology ("La Llorona") to the disloyalty of lost friends ("Steady As She Goes").

On the Western Front is D.I.'s sixth full-length, which was
released on August 14, 2007. It is the first proper studio album
D.I. has released since their 1995 disbandment and 1999
reformation. Frontman Casey Royer would remain as the only
constant member during its recording.
Work on the album began in 2004, five years after announcing
their reunion, although many believed that the album was
actually made in the wake of their 2002 compialtion release
Caseyology, which also featured some unreleased material.
Originally expected to surface in 2004, D.I. had been promising
to release a follow-up to State of Shock every year. Despite an
ongoing tour schedule, the album was put "on hold" several
times, partly due to record company problems.

Four new tracks for 2007 from Regulations. An outstanding mix of the sounds of late 70's Swedish punk with the early LA scene. At first listen you hear the influence of the Germs and early Black Flag, but more structured and complex guitar work and arrangements on this release show that beneath the sneering raw hardcore punk is a more cerebral approach to hardcore song writing based on the 70's Svensk Punk sound. Top notch material from one of the best hardcore punk bands around today. Dark introspective lyrics, with the exception of New Ways which decries the recent election of a conservative government in Sweden "What Happened to My Say?"
