Fisher – Newport 2 /DRAW NO BET (2.10 @Betway) 5 units

Fisher (currently 11th) were awful at home vs Maidenhead (0:1 defeat) last Saturday and a bit better away at Hayes & Yeading (1:2 defeat) this Tuesday (played good for an hour, but then simply stopped), but I think the physical Newport outfit will have too much for them in this match and draw is IMO the worst thing that can happen to Newport. Fisher have some injury worries (their best scorer Goulding is still not 100% fit) and they're out of form lately after having a great start. They haven't won at home since August 18th and Margate, mid-table team from Ryman Premier, league below, kicked them out of the FA Cup (3:4, Fisher were again playing at home) a month ago (2nd qualifying round). In the last two months, they won only away at strugglers St Albans (20th), Braintree (16th) and Bognor Regis (21st).

Newport are having a mini-crisis too but they're still comfortable in the play-off zone (currently 5th) and Fisher should be the perfect opponent for them to get back on track. The mini-crisis are in fact their three recent results – all three at home. They shared points with struggling Bognor Regis and Bath City managed to beat them both in the FA Cup and in the league (1:2 and 2:3). But, Bath's manager knows all about Newport because he's been a player and a manager there for quite a time and they conceded a late penalty. They are a strong team that plays better away than at home – they won their last three away matches (at 7th Eastleigh, at 12th Basingstoke in the FA Trophy 2nd qualifying round and at 18th Maidenhead).

(Betway also offers the best online odds for a straight away win – 2.55. Stanleybet offers 2.60 – 1.47 for X2. Bet365, Bwin, Expekt, Paddy Power and Sportingbet all offer 2.40 for a straight away win and Expekt has the best online X2 odds – 1.45...)

FT 1:3

FA CUP DOUBLE: Histon – Bamber Bridge 1 @1.30 & Weymouth – Hitchin Town 1 @1.40 (1.82 @Sportingbet) 5 units

Histon and Weymouth both doing fine in the Blue Square Premier, shouldn't have much problem against lower league opponents. Bamber Bridge are playing good in the Unibond North (they did lose two out of their last three league matches though) but that's three leagues below and Hitchin are in the relegation zone down in Southern Premier (two leagues below) and aren't good away from home.

(1.80 at Skybet, StanJames and William Hill...)

FT 4:1 / 1:1

UNIBOND PREMIER DOUBLE: Guiseley – North Ferriby @1.36 & Whitby – Witton X2 @1.25 (1.70 @Paddy Power) 5 units

Guiseley can't wait for the return to some league action. They're playing great at home (4-1-0) and they should have far too much for struggling North Ferriby. Witton lost a league match only on the opening day of the season and Whitby players would be more than happy with a draw. This should be a nice little bet, but I'd probably go with the Guiseley handicap win instead of this double if I could find that option anywhere...

(Only 1.60 for this double at Bet-at-home, Gamebookers and PartyBets, but Stanleybet offers magnificent 1.84...)

FT 2:1 / 1:6

RYMAN PREMIER

Ramsgate – Chelmsford 2 (2.25 @Bwin) 4 units & Ramsgate – Chelmsford X (3.50 @StanJames) 1 unit

When there's no DRAW NO BET option available in the whole world, we can always improvise one. We'll lose one and a half unit if this match ends with a draw (or gain 4 units profit if Chlemsford wins) but I don't think Ramsgate can do much against high-flying Chelmsford who are getting better and better away from home. Chelmsford are the biggest title candidates in the Ryman Premier and their players know how to show that on the pitch. Just look at their recent results – 2:1 at home vs Harlow, 2:0 away at Southern Premier high-flyers Hemel Hempstead in the FA Cup, 3:2 away at Bury in the League Cup, 3:0 away at Hastings, 2:1 away at Leyton, 0:1 – the only defeat at Conference South outfit Hayes & Yeading in the FA Cup, 5:1 at home vs Hendon and they were the league leaders at the time and, finally, last Saturday, 2:1 at Boreham Wood in the FA Trophy. Fantastic.

Ramsgate had a terrible month – they lost all of their matches (0:1 at home vs Southern Premier strugglers Corby in the FA Cup, 0:1 at home vs Staines in the league, 1:3 away at Harrow in the league and, finally, 2:3 at home vs Horsham in the FA Trophy last Saturday) and now they'll be without important utility player Minshull due to suspension. Chelmsford will miss Duncan but they have a much bigger squad than Ramsgate...

(Stanleybet and Bet365 also offer 2.25 for away win. 3.50 for a draw can be found anywhere...)

FT 2:0

FA CUP

Hornchurch – Team Bath 2 (2.63 @Skybet) 3 units & Hornchurch – Team Bath X (3.60 @William Hill) 1 unit

Well, if I can't find DRAW NO BET options for the FA Cup and for the 7th leagues (and this time they'd be perfect for half of today's bets) and if you don't want me to put out Pinnacle odds, there's nothing I can do but improvize these DRAW NO BETs. In case of a draw, we'll lose half a unit and if Team Bath wins – we gain almost 4 units.

Very nice odds really, 'cause Team Bath are playing great football recently. They won their last three league matches (2:1 at Cheshunt, 2:0 at home vs Bedford, 2:1 at Corby), they won their three FA Cup matches (2:0 at home vs Bodmin, 8:1 away at Moneyfields, 1:0 vs Conference South outfit Weston-super-Mare) and they also won their FA Trophy match (1:0 at home vs Taunton) – it's a fantastic run and Hornchurch (mid-table Ryman Premier team) don't look to me like the team that could stop them. They were struggling in the FA Cup 3rd qualifying round already – it was 0:0 at home vs Dartford (from league below), but then Hornchurch managed to win the replay away from home.

(Unibet offers 2.60 and TopSportWetten offers 2.55 for an away win, PartyBets offers 3.50 for the draw...)

FT 0:1

UNIBOND PREMIER

Lincoln – Marine 2 (2.50 @Skybet) 3 units & Lincoln – Marine X (3.60 @Skybet) 1 unit

Marine trashed Lincoln 5:0 last Saturday in the FA Trophy – Mariners were playing home – and I don't think Lincoln's revenge plan stands much chance. Lincoln are terrible at home – they won only on the opening day of the season, in mid August. They have 0:8 goal-difference in the last two matches so they're really not the in-form team right now.

Mariners, on the other hand, play better and better – they had five wins in a row before drawing at Prescot Cables. But after that came this 5:0 win in the FA Trophy – their most dangerous striker Cumiskey scored a hat-trick in that match and I wouldn't be surprised if Lincoln players end up beating Cumiskey on the pitch and getting a card or too for it. Cumiskey is, btw, Unibond Premier league's leading scorer and if someone will make a difference in this match, it's probably going to be him.

Marine won their three previous encounters – 4:1 at home and 2:1 away last season and now 5:0 in the FA Trophy.

If Marine win we gain 3 and a half units and if the match ends with a draw, we lose less than half a unit...

(Stanleybet, Bet365, Paddy Power and Primebet all offer the same odds – 2.50. StanJames also offers 3.60 for the draw...)

FT 0:2

FA CUP DOUBLE: Southport – Northwich 1 @1.83 & Havant – Leighton 1 @1.53 (2.7999 @Skybet) 2 units

Southport are doing fine in the Conference North and Northwich are struggling at the bottom of the Blue Square Premier. Havant should have more than enough for Leighton and in this case bookies have fair odds so I'll have a double and won't feel too bad if I lose 2 units. But gaining almost 4 units if Southport and Havant continue with their fine home form (which they should) sounds great.

(2.77 at Unibet and PartyBets...)

FT 1:3 / 3:0

FA CUP

Eastleigh – Forest Green 1 (4.33 @Coral) 2 units & Eastleigh – Forest Green X (3.50 @Gamebookers) 1 unit

I'll consider this as one bet too, just like in the Ramsgate-Chelmsford case, but even a draw brings us some profit here and we lose only if Forest Green manage to win and IMO odds on away win should be a lot bigger than 1.95 (average online odds). Forest Green are indeed play-off candidates in the Conference National (or the Blue Square Premier) but that means that they're probably a bit more focused on the league at this moment. Btw, they weren't that good in their least league match – they were playing at home to struggling Farsley and only shared points. Eastleigh are flying high in Conference South after Baird took over and their recent results have been fantastic (they beat Lewes 3:0 when they were still league leaders and they have goal-difference 11:0 in last three matches). Monster value, should be a cracking match...

(Coral offers the best HW odds by far – Bet-at-Home, Paddy Power, Sportingbet, Unibet and William Hill all offer 3.30... Digibet and PartyBets both offer 3.50 for a draw too...)

FA TROPHY

Maidstone – Bury Town 1 (1.73 @Bet365) 5 units

Bury is a mid-table Ryman North club and Maidstone are a good home team in the Ryman Premier. They're also the worst away team in the world and if they managed to draw (1:1) at Bury, well then I have nothing else to expect here than a strong home win. Bury have 0-3-1 away in their league this season (at home they're quite good) and they played only one league match this month – it was a 0:2 home defeat to Redbridge. A week ago, they lost 1:4 at home to Needham in the Suffolk Cup.

Yes, Staines lost 5:2 yesterday to a team from league below in the FA Trophy, but Staines are playing at mighty Woking this Saturday in the FA Cup 4th qualifying round and their minds were probably already in the FA Cup, not FA Trophy. Maidstone lost at Billericay in the FA Cup 2nd round and they should take the FA Trophy very seriously. At least their supporters take it seriously and with their help, Maidstone should win this game. Maidstone had five home wins in a row before sharing points (2:2) with 7th Harrow this Saturday, but Harrow are a good team this season and they score a lot of goals, home and away. Maidstone are currently 16th in the Ryman Premier, because they lost all six away matches but at home – they should be strong enough for Bury and I like these odds very much so – 5 units for me, please.

(10Bet also offers 1.73, Gamebookers and PartyBets offer 1.72... 1.88 at Pinnacle at this moment...)

CONFERENCE SOUTH

Thurrock – Sutton 1 (1.80 @StanJames) 5 units
(-1) Thurrock – Sutton 1 (3.10 @Blue Square) 1 unit

Thurrock are currently 16th but are improving and at home they've never been a bad team. Let's look at their home matches – 2:3 defeat to title candidates Lewes, 1:1 against 12th Basingstoke, 2:0 win against 15th Welling, 0:5 shock defeat to 7th Hampton, but then came two home wins in a row – 1:0 against 20th Bognor Regis and 3:1 against 14th Hayes & Yeading. After losing at Basingstoke a month ago, they had a spectacular comeback away at 21nd St Albans – it was 5:0 for Thurrock. If they manage to score in the first half, I think they could score one or two more in the second. They brought in a new striker (and a couple of other players), Hughes from Heybridge (he also played for Colchester) and he scored in his first match. They also have a good goalkeeper recently, Blackmore (on loan from West Ham) – he already saved a couple of penalties – and central back Swaine should return to the squad after suspension.

Sutton are 22nd, bottom of the table with 5 points out of 12 matches. They're still without a manager (''...we really need to get the manager situation sorted asap so that we can sign a striker. The break after tomorrow's game will be good for everyone concerned I think...'') and now we finally have decent odds against them. They've lost six league matches in a row and haven't scored in their last two outings (0:3 at home to mid-table Weston, 0:3 away at league leaders Eastbourne, ''...they were undone by their familiar failings of defensive errors and an inability to put the ball in the net...''). They also lost away at Bromley in the Setanta Cup (1:2) and at Lewes in the FA Cup (0:1) and this will be their 4th away match in two weeks.

Thurrock always play good at home against Sutton, last season it was 3:0 and the season before that 5:3 to Thurrock.

This is a normal handicap, not an asian handicap, so this (-1) bet is won only if Thurrock wins by two or more goals...

(Bet-at-home, Betsafe, Betway, Bwin, Gamebookers, PartyBets, Primebet and Sportingbet all offer 1.75 for a straight home win... Digibet offer 2.65 for a handicap win, Stanleybet offer only 2.07... Stanleybet's odds for a normal home win are very bad – only 1.40...)

FT 2:1

FA TROPHY DOUBLE: Kings Lynn – Sudbury 1 @1.33 & Abingdon – Staines 2 @1.47 (1.9551 @10Bet) 4 units

Both Kings Lynn and Staines shoudn't have too much problem in these FA Trophy replays. Staines are great away from home and Abingdon is just a mid-table team from the league below. Kings Lynn, after playing 12 away matches and only 2 (!) home matches this season (won both), surely want to do well infront of their supporters. Sudbury are doing well in Ryman North but aren't very good away from home and they didn't win for four matches in a row.

(1.88 at Bwin, 1.85 at Skybet...)

FT 2:1 / 5:2

Bromley – St Albans OVER 3.5 (2.88 @Blue Square) 2 units

Let's just have a look at Bromley's recent league results, shall we? 3:1 win at home against Bishop's Stortford, 2:2 at Lewes, 3:2 home win against Basingstoke, 1:3 home defeat to league leaders Eastbourne, 3:2 away win at Dorchester. So, these guys obviously like to score, but they also concede a lot of goals. And now, let's have a look at recent St Albans away matches, okay? 4:3 shocking away win at Bishop's Stortford, 0:3 defeat at Bath City (and Bath City's strikers aren't really goal-scoring machines), 1:4 defeat at Hampton & Richmond this Saturday and Hampton apparently could have scored at least five more goals.

St Albans are having a terrible season, there have been a lot of comings and goings recently (including a new manager). They have nothing to lose in this match and I'm sure they'll try to score and they'll probably pick up a couple more bookings, maybe even a red card (six players got booked this Saturday). If they score twice, this bet is practically won because Bromley players know how to score too.

Bromley scores more and more goals at home as the season continues, in their first home match they scored one goal, then two goals in next two home matches and then three in two matches. After that came the 1:3 defeat to league leaders, but now we could again see a lot of Bromley's goals. Bromley scored 12 and conceded 10 goals in their last five league matches. As for their scorers, Hockton and Williams both scored five goals and McCleary and McDonnell both scored four.

Silly odds, really, Bromley are a better team by far and should score a lot of goals, but yes, St Albans could score a goal or two also so – 2.88 for OVER 3.5? Anytime.

(2.75 at Betway, 2.31 at Stanleybet...)

FT 3:4

Hampton & Richmond – Bishop's Stortford OVER 3.5 (3.25 @Blue Square) 2 units

2:2 at home vs Cambridge, 5:0 away at Thurrock, 3:1 away at Eastleigh, 2:6 away at Bishop's Stortford (yes), 1:1 at home vs Maidenhead, 2:1 away at Basingstoke and 4:1 at home vs St Albans this Saturday. These are the Hampton's league matches in September and October. Hampton also won 3:1 at home against Braintree in the FA Cup 3rd qualifying round and then 2:0 away at Worthing, and also 3:1 away at Basingstoke in the Setanta Cup. A lot of goals and the result that really sticks out is that 2:6 away defeat at... Well, look at that, Bishop's Stortford. Revenge? Nah, I'd be satisfied with a 4:4 draw.

Bishops' recent results are very similar – 3:4 at home vs St Albans, 1:3 away at Bromley, 6:2 at home vs Hampton, 1:0 away at Fisher, 2:2 at home vs Eastleigh and 4:0 away at Weston this Saturday. Pearson scored 9 goals for them in the last six matches. 2 units are a must with these kind of odds...

CONFERENCE SOUTH

Havant & Waterloovile – Basingstoke 1 (1.91 @Blue Square) 7 units

If you think Basingstoke had a great match this Saturday and that now they're ready for another away surprise, well, not really, Basingstoke just had some luck in the match at Bath City and we didn't – as simple as that. Bath conceded an unlucky goal and after that, they laid siege to the Basingstoke goal – hit the crossbar a couple of times and a couple of their players got injured (Bath's goalkeeper got injured after all three subs came in, so they even played without a proper goalkeeper for the last ten minutes). We simply had no luck s. But two times in a row... No, that would be too much.

Havant & Waterloovile are one of the best home teams in the non-league world. This season they lost only to Lewes (currently 2nd, they were the league leaders at the time) and after losing a manager to Eastleigh (big money involved, at least big for this league), they all have some things to prove to the new one (basically, it's the old assistant manager, but he's the boss now). Havant are currently 8th, but with just three points less than 3rd Bishop's Stortford.

Even with some more bad luck, Havant's best scorer Rocky Baptiste will probably manage to score a winner against Basingstoke, just like he did last season. Basingstoke are traditionally lousy away at Havant and they still have some injury problems...

(Bet365 are also offering 1.91, Sportingbet has 1.90... Stanleybet offers 1.85...)

FT 1:1

Weston-super-Mare – Eastleigh 2 /DRAW NO BET (2.30 @Betway) 4 units

Monster odds for this DRAW NO BET (in case of an away win – the bet is won, in case of a draw – you get the money back) option at Betway.

After bringing in a succesful manager from Havant, putting Lewes off the top of the league with a 3:0 win this Saturday and recieving a significant financial boost – anything is possible and Weston are not the team to be afraid of even if they're currently 9th (Eastleigh are 10th with 19 points, just like them).

Eastleigh brough in a couple of new players, they're bursting with confidence at the moment and Weston-super-Mare just lost 0:4 at home to Bishop's Stortford. I'm not saying that Weston are a bad team this season, but let's look at the teams they've beat – Thurrock, Sutton (twice), Bognor Regis, Havant and Dorchester. All relegation candidates except Havant, but Havant are lousy away from home and they were in the biggest crisis when they played Weston.

Weston also shared points at another relegation candidates, Hayes & Yeading, and lost to Fisher, Bath City, Braintree (at home), Eastleigh (yes, it was 3:2 for the home team at Eastleigh already), Team Bath (from the league below, in the FA Cup), Bath City again (in the Setanta Cup) and Bishop's Stortford (at home). They're currently searching for a defender after they lost Clark. Weston were terrible in the last month of the 06/07 season (April, played six matches, lost five) and after having a bright start of the campaign (two wins in first four matches, then three defeats, then five wins, including an FA Cup win at lower league's Oxford City, then again three defeats, including Cup matches and a terrible defeat at home to Bishops this Saturday), I'm afraid they will go down soon.

Eastleigh, on the other hand, really started playing well – they're doing great in the FA Cup (3:1 at Hamworthy, 5:0 at home against Clevedon) and don't forget four points in the last two very tough league rounds (2:2 at Bishop's Stortford and 3:0 at home against Lewes – both teams are title candidates, probably biggest of all).

These two teams played together five teams in the last 24 months – Eastleigh won three times and they shared points twice.

You should also check the Pinnacle odds – at this moment, even a draw brings us profit there. The current line is (+0.25) but (+0) is also okay...

(Skybet offers 2.88 on a normal away win, StanJames, Bwin and Stanleybet all offer 2.80, but I like these DRAW NO BET odds much more. The best double chance X2 odds are at Paddy Power – 1.57 – and at Bwin – 1.56...)

CONFERENCE SOUTH

Bath City – Basingstoke 1 (1.75 @Betway) 8 units

Bath City are currently 3rd in the Conference South and they're doing great at home. They've won all of their home matches with keeping the clean sheat except against 4th Newport (1:1) a month and a half ago, but they had a sweet revenge last Saturday, in the FA Cup 3rd qualifying round. They were playing away at Newport and managed to win 2:1. They face a tough but attractive tie in the 4th qualifying round – they'll be playing at home against Conference leaders Torquay.

2:0 vs 11th Eastleigh, 2:0 against 10th Hampton & Richmond, 1:0 against 5th Weston-super-Mare, 1:1 against 4th Newport, 3:0 against 20th St Albans. These are the Bath City's home matches so far – impressive. They also have two cup wins in a row (2:1 at Newport in the FA Cup and 3:2 at home against Weston-super-Mare in the less important Setanta Cup this Tuesday). Bath City should have more than enough for Basingstoke.

From September 18th untill now, Bath City played seven games – won six of them and lost only at mighty Havant & Waterloovile (0:1). Today they signed another player, midfielder McKay from Swindon.

Basingstoke are currently 12th but they're much better at home than away. Away from home, they lost three times (1:4 at Fisher, 0:2 at Newport, 2:3 at Bromley – all promotion candidates just like Bath City) and shared points twice (1:1 at Thurrock, 1:1 at Hayes & Yeading, both relegation candidates). After beating two relegation candidates a month ago at home (Thurrock and Dorchester), they now have four defeats in a row – away at Bromley (league), at home to Newport (FA Cup 2nd round) and then twice at home against mid-table Hampton & Richmond (Setanta Cup and then league).

They didn't have a match last Saturday so maybe they're a bit rusty too. Basingstoke will be without suspended midfielder Laidler who played in every league match so far and they still have some injury problems. Their biggest problem is central midfield at this moment (it will be even worse now without Laidler) and that's probably why their best scorer Fitzgerald scored 5 goals in first 4 matches of the season, but then (after Harkness and Gibbs, both scorers, also left the club) just one single goal in next 7 league matches. They're trying to bring in a couple of new players, but untill now, they've only managed to bring in a 17 year old goalkeeper. I expect a strong home win here – 8 units for the 5th time this season.

(Blue Square is offering 1.73, Stanleybet, Bet365 and Paddy Power are offering 1.67 – anything above 1.65 looks good to me...)

FT 0:1

CONF SOUTH DOUBLE: Bath City – Basingstoke 1 @1.73 & Eastbourne – Sutton 1 @1.44 (2.49 @Blue Square) 4 units

Eastbourne have five home wins in a row, they're playing great football this season and some players are coming back after their injuries. Sutton are a mess, they don't have a good enough striker, they don't even have a manager in this moment. If odds were only above 1.55, it would probably be my first 9/10 bet of the season. But, we can have this lovely Conference South double at Blue Square – Eastbourne and Bath City home wins combined make 2.49 and that sounds absolutely great.

(2.26 @StanJames for this double... Stanleybet offers 2.22...)

FT 0:1 / FT 3:0

CONF NORTH DOUBLE: Hyde – Barrow 1 @1.57 & Burscough – Hinckley 1 @1.57 (2.46 @StanJames) 4 units

Hyde (currently 4th) faced all the other top-6 sides untill now and they did fine winning against Telford, Burscough and Kettering, and losing only to Harrogate and Southport. They're very good at home (4-0-1, goal-difference 13:5) – in fact, they lost only to on/off Tamworth (their incredible scorer Seddon wasn't in the team back then) way back in the 3rd round. Now they have three league home wins in a row (4:0 vs 17th Redditch, 1:0 vs 6th Burscough, 1:0 vs 5th Telford) and this month they have two away league wins in a row (2:0 at 2nd Kettering and then, last Saturday, 3:0 at 16th Alfreton).

Seddon weren't allowed to play in the first 5 league matches for them due to suspension, but he came back in style and is probably the most dangerous (he scored once and assisted for other two goals against Alfreton a week ago) player in the Conference North right now. Kettering players also didn't manage to stop him – Seddon scored twice and Hyde took those valuable three away points off direct rivals. Before that, Seddon also scored a winner at home against Telford so that makes it four goals in last three league fixtures.

Barrow are currently 15th and still with no win away from home (0-3-2). They lost at home to 11th Nuneaton earlier this month and then managed to beat an opponent from league below Conference North (Fleetwood) in the FA Cup last Saturday. Barrow played three away matches in September – they lost at 9th Boston and 2nd Kettering and managed to steal a point at 13th Tamworth (it was a goalless draw). Still, can't see them doing much at Hyde. Even if he'll have a bad day, I'm sure Seddon can score a winner just to make those three points feel safe.

Promotion candidates Burscough play against struggling and demotivated Hinckley outfit that will also be without Love due to suspension. Burscough playing great recently, three home wins in a row, their only home defeat happened in their first home match of the season, two months ago. Great away at Hucknall last Saturday, won 2:0. Hinckley second to bottom, 0-3-2 away, 9th Boston defeated them 4:1 in the FA Cup a week ago and they're having some injury problems too.

(Skybet also offers 2.46 for this double, Stanleybet is offering 2.29...)

FA TROPHY DOUBLE: Billericay – Ilford 1 @1.33 & Team Bath – Taunton 1 @1.43 (1.90 @10Bet) 3 units

Both of the home teams are title candidates from the higher leagues and should have more than enough to win these FA Trophy matches even if the managers decide to rest a couple of standard players.

The Team Bath – Taunton match is being played on Sunday.

(Bwin offers 1.82 for this double, I personally wouldn't go below 1.80...)

FT 2:1 / FT 1:0

CONFERENCE SOUTH

Dorchester – Bromley 2 (2.40 @Betway) 1 unit

Bromley are one of the promotion candidates in the Conference South. They're currently 8th (just a point less than Weston-super-Mare who are 5th) and they had probably the hardest schedule up untill now. They've already played against almost all of the play-off candidates and they now face three opponents that are very beatable (after playing against Havant, Bishop's Stortford, Lewes and Eastbourne in a month). Away from home they're not the best team, but they're improving – after they lost at 18th Braintree and shared points at bottom of the table Sutton, they were great at 7th Fisher's (won 3:0). Then they lost again at Havant (one of the best home teams in the non-league world) and shared points at league leaders Lewes.

Bromley also managed to get in the FA Cup 4th qualifying round, after beating Dartford (one of the best outfits from Ryman North, two leagues below) 1:0 at home and they also won at home against league rivals Sutton in the Setanta Cup earlier this month. They've also recently signed a couple of new players – experienced defender Judge (250 appearances for the Conference outfit Crawley), scorer Gibbs (came from Woking, been at Basingstoke at the start of the season), midfielder Hughes, defender Harney (both of them had already played for Bromley in the past) and defender Sobers. Corneille and Osborn are finally fit too.

Their best scorer Hockton (arrived this summer from Margate – and Margate still miss him) is playing great lately – he scored four times in his last four matches (didn't play against Eastbourne), including a winner this Saturday in the FA Cup. It could've easily been more than just 1:0 but a win is a win is a win.

Dorchester are currently 17th – they're out of the FA Cup (they played against Paulton Rovers, a mid-table team from Southern One, two leagues below – it was 1:1 at Dorchester, but never-heard Paulton Rovers won 2:0 in the replay and shocked Dorchester's supporters) and doing well in the Setanta Cup that no one else is taking very seriously. They managed to beat a solid Eastleigh (league rivals, currently 11th) outfit, but Eastleigh weren't as agressive as they could've be been, knowing they had a FA Cup match in a few days and that is always more important (Eastleigh managed to win their FA Cup match that was played four days later, in case you're wondering). Eastleigh even played without their No1 goalkeeper.

Dorchester are traditionally terrible at home – this season they've lost to Havant, Lewes, Eastleigh and Weston-super-Mare and won only against on/off Fisher outfit. But it's not just this season, last season they had 6-2-12. This season, it's 1-0-4 after first five home matches so they're being consistent.

Dorchester's manager is currently trying to find a scorer he could sign (they desperately need one, supporters think), but no luck yet...

(Primebet are also offering 2.40, Skybet, Coral and Blue Square all offer 2.38, Stanleybet is offering only 2.30...)

UNIBOND PREMIER

Eastwood – Matlock 1 (2.10 @Skybet) 2 units

Eastwood are currently 7th, they're one of the best home teams in the league and their manager finally brought in a couple of new strikers, Hearns from Hucknall and Rhead who scored 31 goals for Kidsgrove last season. This Saturday, they lost away at 11th Ashton, but before that had a great run. They have four home wins in a row (at home, they've lost only to probably the biggest title candidates, Gateshead, back in the first round) – 3:2 against 15th Stamford, 1:0 against 5th Marine, 2:1 against 3rd Fleetwood and 1:0 against 19th Leek. Eastwood seems very ambitious this season and I like this odds so I decided to give it a try.

Matlock are currently 10th. They're one of the worst away teams with 1-1-3 and goal-difference 3:8. They're one of the best home teams though (they even beat Conference North outfit Telford in the FA Cup 2nd qualifying round, but lost away from home in the 3rd round, at a struggling outfit from the Unibond North league, Harrogate Railway Athletic), but away from home they're nothing to be scared of. Their only away win this season happened at 16th Prescot Cables a month and a half ago and they also shared points at 21st, bottom of the table Frickley. 15th Stamford, 1st Witton and 3rd Fleetwood all managed to beat them and their away defeat at the struggling outfit from the league below this Saturday was arguably their worst match of the season. Matlock's players' self-confidence is pretty low at this moment and, what is even worse for them, a couple of players who weren't 100% fit all played in the Saturday's match that finished so bad for them.

(Stanleybet, StanJames, Sportingbet,PaddyPower, Gamebookers, Bwin and Bet-at-home all offer 2.00 and even at that odds, I see a value in this bet...)

FT 2:3

Prescot Cables – Marine 2 (2.15 @Gamebookers) 2 units

Prescot Cables are currently 16th in the Unibond Premier and they aren't very good at home (2-0-4). They managed to beat 14th Kendal back in the 2nd round (two months ago) and 11th Ashton three weeks ago but they lost to 8th Lincoln, 10th Matlock, 3rd Fleetwood and 2nd Guiseley. They have four defeats in a row (FA Cup defeat at Guiseley, league defeat at home to Guiseley, 1:6 away at league leaders Witton and, finally, this Saturday, 0:3 away at 6th Ossett) and they only scored one goal (conceded eleven) in these four matches.

Marine are playing great lately. They are currently 5th and, after signing three new players recently, now they brought in another striker, O'Donnell from Conference North (league above) outfit Vauxhall Motors. Marine already beat Prescot Cables this season (only 1:0 at home, but Marine is now a much better team than it was month and a half ago) and they now have five wins in a row (goal-difference 18:5). They also have two away wins in a row (at 13th Ilkeston and at 19th Leek) and they haven't conceded a goal in their last two league matches (scored seven). Very nice odds, should be 1.90 max IMO...

(Stanleybet offers fantastic 2.50 on a Marine away win but anything above 1.90 looks good to me... Bwin is the best of the rest with their 2.10...)

Chelmsford – Hendon 1 (1.75 @Sportingbet) 4 units

Both great teams this season (Hendon surprisingly because their budget can't even try and compare with Chelmsford's or Wimbledon's budget), but Chelmsford are superior at home (5 matches, 5 wins, goal difference 18:3) and Hendon are not the best away team (3-2-1, also lost away at league rivals Hornchurch in the FA Cup). They had to settle with a draw at 20th Ashford and 18th Heybridge, and 6th East Thurrock went a step further to beat them 3:2 in September. Hendon's most recent results have been pretty poor (4:4 away at 20th Ashford, 1:1 at home against 14th Harlow this Saturday – it was arguably their worst match of the season) and I don't think they will remain on top of the table for much longer. Hendon won their away matches at 9th Harrow, 15th Margate and 16th Carshalton.

4:1 against 7th Boreham Wood, 7:0 against 17th Maidstone, 2:0 against 6th East Thurrock, 3:1 against 21th Wealdstone, 2:1 against 14th Harlow. These are the Chelmsford home wins and I think they'all add one more to that list after this match. It wasn't supposed to be a big derby, Hendon were mid-table in all the pre-season and start-of-the-season predictions, but it turned out to be a match between the two best outfits of the first part of the 07/08 season. Chelmsford have some big injury problems and got kicked out of the FA Cup this weekend (they lost 0:1 at Conference South, league above, outfit Hayes & Yeading), but they have a big squad and I still think they will win this one (they even brought in a young ex-Arsenal striker). But, the draw could happen here too, so if you want to be extra-careful, you know what to do. StanJames and Bet365 both offer 3.75 for a draw...

Havant & Waterloovile – Fleet 1 (1.62 @Skybet) 8 units

Okay, we're in the FA Cup 3rd qualifying round. Surprises are bound to happen, but I don't think this is the match that will surprise us.

Fleet are currently the leaders of Southern One (South & West) league (two leagues below Conference South) and they're doing great there (6-1-0), but I don't think they can do much away at mighty Havant.

Havant are promotion candidates in the Conference South – they have a new manager, they managed to beat very strong Bath City outfit in their last league home match and with the right attitude, this will be a strong home win. Havant are traditionally very strong at home (and, btw, had a very nice FA Cup run last season too) – this season they have 4-1-1. At home, they shared points with Braintree back in the nervous first round and lost only to league leaders Lewes.

Fleet played only two away league matches this season (won both), but they're no longer unbeatable this season – they've lost 2:4 away at league rivals Oxford City (currently 8th) in the League Cup. They did manage to beat Southern Premier mid-table outfit Mangotsfield in the FA Cup 2nd qualifying round (their biggest FA Cup success ever) but this is another story. The gap between Conference South and BG Southern One is huge... 8 units, for the first time this month.

(Bwin offers 1.55...)

FT 2:1

Leek – Witton 2 (1.60 @ Bwin) 6 units

Leek have 4 league defeats in a row and 4 home defeats in a row (if we include an FA Cup home defeat to league rivals Buxton) – infront of their fans, they only managed to share points with 14th Ashton and 19th North Ferriby, back in August. They're the worst home team in the league with 0-2-3 (16th Prescot Cables, 15th Buxton and 6th Marine all managed to beat them) and goal-difference 3:10. Leek are currently 20th – only Frickley are below them on the table.

League leaders Witton were without a match last Saturday and they surely missed the old game, because they were unstopable at home against 16th Prescot Cables a couple of days ago (6:1 for Witton, it was a sweet revenge for the FA Cup defeat – the odds were terribly low but these odds are better and I see some value here). Their September was great – they picked up 16 points out of 18, their shared points only at play-off candidates Ossett (currently 9th). Huge difference in quality here, Witton have 4-1-1 away from home (their only away defeat happened in the first round, back in August, at 8th Lincoln), they had no problem at 12th Kendal, 15th Buxton, 11th Ilkeston, 14th Ashton. Witton will reamin top of the table even if they lose, so no pressure. But, no shocks and no surprises, please.

Leek will also be without their two standard defenders, Johnson and Thomas, due to suspensions, Talbot recently retired from football and they're missing a couple of injured players too.

Wanna see all the goals Witton scored against Prescot Cables? Didn't think so. Here they are:

FT 2:2

Marine – North Ferriby 1 (1.67 @StanJames) 6 units

Promotion candidates Marine (currently 6th) shouldn't have much problem against a poor North Ferriby outfit. Marine's home form wasn't brilliant so far (3-0-3), but North Ferriby are much worse when playing away (0-4-2). After an awful start of the season, Marine have finally started playing some football and now have four league wins in a row (3:2 at home against 17th Whitby, 4:1 at home against 12th Kendal, 4:2 away at 11th Ilkestone and, finally, 4:0 away at 20th Leek this Saturday) and have recently brought in a couple of new players (scorer Tuck, winger Wynne and experienced offensive midfielder Whittaker who played for a lot of Conference clubs).

North Ferriby (currently 19th, in the relegation zone) had a little reinessance when new manager arrived at the club last month (they were playing against much weaker teams though – they won at home against 10th Hednesford, that was their first match under the new manager, then they shared points away at fellow strugglers, 18th Worksop, and then won at home against the worst team in the league, 21st Frickley), but now they again have two league defeats in a row (1:3 away at 13th Stamford and 0:1 at home against 8th Lincoln) and not much to look forward to in this match. Their goal-difference this season is 14:27. Away from home, they shared points with 21st (bottom of the table) Frickley, 20th Leek, 9th Ossett and 18th Worksop, and lost at 7th Matlock and 13th Stamford. Their second best scorer this season, Hayward, left the club a week ago.

Marine won all of their previous encounters played on their own pitch.

Let's just look at the North Ferriby's fans' forum and that's it:

''... Can't remember Lincoln keeper having a serious save to make. Bradshaw running himself ragged again - he can't be expected to chase long balls onto the wing and score as well. Hotte as usual lots of huff and puff but no end result. Agree with Caspar - two subs at least should have been brought on to change things up front. Its the old story - quite a bit of promise but no real threat and not much sign of goals...''

''... They need to convert the improvement in play into chances and goals and to do that they are still short of a creative midfield player who can keep the ball and a front man to play with Bradshaw. Like others on this site I can't see what the return of Hotte will bring to the team - he was willing enough last night but he's just not up to this standard of football and looks terrified if he finds himself in a scoring position. Disapponting that the manager didn't see this and give the subs a chance. I suppose nearly every football team in the country could do with a good striker/support man so good luck in finding one NA...''

FT 3:0

Maidstone – Leyton 1 (1.90 @Gamebookers) 5 units

Here we have two Ryman Premier teams from the relegation zone, Maidstone and Leyton. But Maidstone are solid hosts, they have 3-0-2 at home (8:6 goal-difference) and they have two home wins in a row. They're awful away (0:4 Hastings, 0:7 Chelmsford, 0:4 Ramsgate, 1:2 Hendon, 0:2 Wimbledon, 0:4 Billericay), they're the worst away team in the league by far, but at home, they look solid enough for guests like Leyton.

They were great at home against 16th Carshalton (3:0) in August, and then good enough later against 18th Tonbridge (2:1) and against 7th Boreham Wood (3:2) in September. At home, they've lost only in the nervous first round, two months ago, to 4th Horsham and then, also back in August, to 3rd Staines (and Staines are the best away team in the league with 3-2-0). Maidstone also managed to win in both of their cup home matches (5:2 against Canvey Island in the League Cup and 3:0 against Erith in the FA Cup 1st qualifying round – later on, they've lost in the 2nd round, you'll guess it, away, at Billericay). They've even won in the only friendly match played home in pre-season (2:1 against a strong Dagenham outfit) and recently welcomed back a couple of players who were injured and suspended. Didn't help them away at frustrated and angry Billericay outfit, didn't think it would, but now they're ready to take another three points IMO.

Maidstone are currently 20th and Leyton are bottom of the table, 22nd. Leyton's away statistics look like this: 1-0-4 (7:14 goal-difference). They have three defeats in a row and they've only won at fellow strugglers Ashford Town (much worse home team than Maidstone). They've lost at surprise leaders Hendon, 5th Ramsgate, 10th Billericay and 13th Harrow. Almost a perfect simetry – 1, 5, 10, 13, 20. I hope.

Both teams need these points, but Maidstone are a good home team, they're playing infront of their fans, finally, after playing three away matches in 11 days, and Leyton are struggling at home and away, doesn't even matter where they play. They basically have no supporters when playing away from home and I think they'll maybe manage to take a point or two in their two home matches later this month, not before. 5 units, very nice odds, hop on and hope for the best.

(Stanleybet offers terrific 2.10 on a home win. Bwin, Bet-at-home, PartyBets and Primebet offer the same odds as Gamebookers – 1.90...)

FT 2:1

Brentwood – Staines 2 (2.00 @Skybet) 3 units

I'll make it quick and simple. Staines are the best away team in the Ryman Premier. They have three away league wins in a row (won at Maidstone, Ramsgate and Horsham – all very good teams, especially Ramsgate and Horsham, especially at home) and are currently 3rd on the league table, with one match less and three points less than leaders Hendon.

Brentwood are also 3rd, but in the league below. Still undefeated in the league, I'm sure they'll be up for it. But, Ali G's boys from Staines are playing some nice football this season and if they could've done it at Horsham this Tuesday (it was 4:2 for the guests from Staines – impressive, Horsham had 5-0-0 at home up to that match), then they shouldn't have much problem at Brentwood. But, it's the FA Cup, folks, and Brentwood already kicked one Ryman Premier club out of the FA Cup (it was only new boys Harlow, though), so – only 3 units for me.

The last time these two outfits played a match, it was 4:2 for the guests from Staines, also in the FA Cup, back in 2000.

SOUTHERN PREMIER

Corby – Team Bath 2 (2.10 @StanJames) 3 units

The lousiest home team against one of the best away teams and title candidates. The odds on away win should be 1.80 max so this is a must-have bet.

Corby's home statistics this season are terrible – they have 0-0-3 with goal-difference 1:6 (all in all, they scored only six goals in nine league matches). At home, they've lost to 3rd King's Lynn (0:2), 9th Mangotsfield (1:2) and 2nd Hemel Hempstead (0:2). This season, they managed to win only at 18th Hitchin and at 11th Halesowen. This Saturday, the lost 0:3 at 13th Clevedon.

Corby were supposed to get relegated in May but with the a little help of the clubs in the non-league world who got relegated because of financial problems they stayed in the Southern Premier league and even brought in a new manager and a bunch of new players. Some even saw them as promotion candidates but that plan obviously failed. The fans are again mad as hell, Corby is currently second to bottom and they'll probably look for their first home points of the season in the next round when they're playing against struggling Swindon. They're in the FA Cup 3rd qualifying round and it wouldn't be strange for players to concentrate more on the Cup in this moment (they'll be playing 3rd round match this upcoming Saturday), when they're terrible in the league.

A couple of players left Corby too – this is what one of their fans wrote on their forum a couple of days ago:

''... Diggins scored a cracking goal in Ramsgate but imo is getting worse and worse and lazier and lazier, he simply dont move till the ball comes to him,the same goes for lynchy,in fact to me he looks in jured. Far from keeping a settled team, Wilson needs to try changes in midfield and up front wedsday...whoever he brings in they sure cant do any worse. As for the players leaving, thats really worying.I reckon its because they all can see what we can see is that Wilsom refuses to drop his favs dont matter how bad they are playing and he simply wont fink abut using any of these other players.they aint stupid they no like we no who is playin bad and who should be rested/dropped.
Maddox, Towers, Byrne all left it apeers after rows with wilson on this subject. FFS it took him sixseven games to drop the midfield playerScott, when he was dire and slow even in the esiest of friendly matches. how long b4 all the other squad players do the same? moral and changing room confidence will disapeer along with them...''

Team Bath are currently 5th but with only five points less and two matches less than 1st Brackley. They played only three away matches in the league so far – won twice (at strugglers Swindon and Cheshunt) and shared points once (at 17th Banbury back in the first round, two months ago, when they were missing a couple of important players). This Saturday they were very good at home against solid Bedford outfit and won 2:0. Team Bath recently welcomed back a bunch of important players after their injuries and absences (no1 goalkeeper Chitty, very dangerous left winger Thomson, scorer Llewellyn who came from the subs' bench to score a definite winner this Saturday, skipper Warren, defender El-Abd and winger Perrott are all finally fit, Adams is back from Canada and Townley is back from Thailand) and when this injury-crisis finally stopped, they started playing some football again. In the FA Cup 2nd qualifying round, they won 8:1 against Moneyfields (two leagues below) but more important were their two league wins, before FA Cup at Cheshunt and after that at home against Bedford. Their best scorer Canham scored nine goals (seven in the league) already this season and offensive midfielder Townley scored five.

This won't be an easy match and it could end with the draw, yes, that's why this is not a 7 or even a 5 units bet, but the bookies underestemated Team Bath in this case and I'll try to beat them with these modest 3 units. If I fail, at least I'll know I've put up a good fight. And another Saturday is getting near too...

(Stanleybet again has the best odds for the straight away win – 2.20 – but they aren't available to all of you so the 'official' bet will be 2.10 at StanJames or at any of the bookies who offer exactly the same odds – Sportingbet, Skybet, Paddy Power, Bet365)

RYMAN PREMIER

Leyton – Chelmsford 2 (1.80 @Bwin) 7 units

After winning 3:0 at Hastings this Saturday, big spenders and title candidates Chelmsford should pick up another three points at a much worse team. These odds are looking good (should be 1.70 max IMO) and Leyton is looking really bad.

Leyton is currently bottom of the table with eight points from ten matches. This Saturday they've lost at home to 8th Folkestone Invicta (0:1) and before that they've also lost away at 14th Harrow (2:5), away at 15th Billericay (0:4), at home to 6th East Thurrock (1:3), away at 5th Ramsgate (2:3) and away at surprise leaders Hendon (1:2). They managed to draw at home against 13th Harlow (August 18th) and at home against 9th Wimbledon (September 8th) and to win at home against surprisingly 2nd Horsham (September 4th) and away at 20th Ashford (September 22nd). Leyton will also be without their suspended defender Gracey and they are already out of both the FA Cup and Ryman League Cup – Potters Bar, a struggling outfit from the league below Ryman Premier, managed to beat them 3:1 a week ago (in the League Cup) and this is what Leyton's manager said after that match:

''... Despite making so many changes I still though I was putting out a side capable of winning this game against a team struggling in the division below us. But the first half performance wasn't acceptable and it proved to me that my squad just isn't strong enough. It was another lesson for me and I will have to go away now and try and find some players that are good enough to take us to where we want to be. Yes the second half was slightly better, but in the end I had to bring on all my substitutes and it defeated the object of trying to give people a rest...''

Chelmsford had really hard away matches in the league up untill now – they've shared points or lost at all the promotion candidates (Margate 1:1, Billericay 1:1, Hornchurch 0:1, Horsham 1:2) but exploded this Saturday at 11th Hastings and won comfortably (3:0). Before that, Chelmsford also won their two away cup fixtures (2:0 at Hemel Hempstead, 2nd team in the Southern Premier, in the FA Cup 2nd qualifying round, and 3:2 at Ryman North outfit Bury Town in the Ryman League Cup – Chelmsford were playing without their no1 goalkeeper and a couple of other standard players).

Chelmsford also recently welcomed back a couple of players who were injured for some time and they have a massive away support (like, hundreds of people) and a long, long bench if something goes wrong.

The only thing that worries me a bit is the weather. Heavy rain is expected untill afternoon – the pitch won't be in a perfect shape but with such a difference in quality and such nice odds, I simply have to take this bet even if I'm going to curse the rain and the state of the Leyton's pitch after the match.

(Pinnacle offers 1.92 for the straight away win in this moment, but we all know this moment won't last. Bombabet offers 1.79 and Sportingbet, Primebet, Gamebookers, Bet-at-home, Tipico and Partybets all offer 1.75 on away win – like I said in the preview, anything above 1.70 sounds good to me...)

UNIBOND PREMIER

Ashton – Whitby OVER 2.75 (1.82 @Pinnacle) 6 units

Ashton and Whitby are both relegation candidates this season and both teams like to score and concede a lot. Ashton's goal difference in 11 matches is 20:21 (14:12 in six home matches) and Whitby's goal difference in 10 matches is 20:22 (7:11 in five away matches). Both teams lost this Saturday – Ashton played away and lost 2:5 at struggling Worksop and Whitby played at home and lost 1:2 to mid-table Kendal.

Ashton's manager recently brought in a couple of new forwards (experienced Fitzpatrick from Radcliffe, Smith who played for Leigh RMI and attacking midfielder Chapell who scores a lot of goals too) – always nice to know. Last season these two teams played 2:1 and 3:2 – both times the visitors won the match. 3:2 Ashton away win happened at the end of last season, in April this year.

Whitby's recent results are awful – Bradford, a club from league below, managed to beat them 4:0 in The FA Cup recently (Ashton is also out of the FA Cup, they've lost 2:3 at Nantwich) and they have some injuries to deal with too:

''... Player-manager Lee Nogan will again be without Ant Ormerod, who misses at least five more weeks of football with a calf injury, and likely skipper Matty Appleby who is awaiting the start of a three-match suspension for his sending-off at Bradford where Town tumbled out of the FA Cup. Right-back Andy Burton was stretchered off suffering a twisted knee during the Kendal game and must be highly doubtful- fellow defender Alex Janes may also not make it after missing the last two outings with an ankle problem...''

The odds will probably change and, unfortunately, we have no alternative for this bet. If you ask me, OVER 3 and even OVER 3.25 for odds better than 1.80 are also worth taking. I think at least four goals will be scored in this match... Tomorrow we'll have a bet that is not an OVER/UNDER bet, so it won't be necessary to bet at Pinnacle...

Wimbledon – Maidstone 1 (1.55 @Sportingbet) 7 units

The mighty Dons finally started to play some football. After a terrible run in the league that saw them pick up only two points from five matches, they managed to beat Heybridge Swifts at home (and bring us some profit) and pick up a valuable point away at promotion candidates Margate. They're also in the FA Cup 3rd qualifying round, after beating Cray Wanderers (6:2) in the 1st and Debenham (5:1) in the 2nd round. Now it's time for them to pick up another three points in the league, at home against relegation candidates Maidstone, and they shouldn't have much problem doing that. Their midfielder Beckford got injured recently but they quickly brought in experienced Beard from St Albans (played 49 games for Stevenage last year) to take his place (''... Mark Beard added some real bite in midfield and I was thrilled with his performance - he really made a difference...'', said Wimbledon's manager after the last match) and their scorer Grazioli can't play in the FA Cup but will play in this league fixture (he will return to Barnet after next Saturday's league match). With the curse finally broken (narrow 1:0 win against Heybridge in Wimbledon's last home match), this could be a much more comfortable win.

Maidstone's manager brought in a couple of new guys (forward Ashton, defender Guerreiro and reserve keeper Peck – btw Smith left the club recently, only three weeks after he joined them) but that didn't help them in the FA Cup – they lost in the 2nd qualifying round away at currently very beatable Billericay outfit (0:2). Maidstone do have two consecutive narrow league wins, but both of them were home wins – away from home they're terrible (0:4 at Hastings, 0:7 at Chelmsford, 0:4 at Ramsgate and, finally, 1:2 at Hendon – all defeats). They've lost both of their away cup matches too (1:2 at Cray Wanderers in the not so important Kent Senior Cup and 0:2 at Billericay in the FA Cup) and in the league they have conceded 23 goals in 9 outings (no other club conceded more). 1:0 home win would be fine enough though. Maidstone fans think that they need to bring in at least one or two strikers because of the recent transfers, injuries and low quality strikers they currently have.

(Stanleybet offers very nice 1.60 on a home win. Bet365 offers 1.53, StanJames, Skybet and Bet-at-home offer 1.50...)

Bognor Regis – Fisher OVER 2.75 (1.91 @Pinnacle) 5 units
Bognor Regis – Fisher 2 (2.30 @Expekt) 1 units

Bognor Regis now have five defeats in a row (including an FA Cup defeat last Saturday) and only six points (away wins at relegation candidates Welling and Maidenhead) collected in the first ten league matches. They've lost all of their home matches this season (Hampton 2:4, Bishop's Stortford 0:2, Lewes 0:5, Eastbourne 0:2, Bath City 1:3). Bognor Regis lost in the FA Cup 2nd qualifying round, they were playing at home against out-of-form Havant outfit and lost 1:2. Their best scorer Nightingale didn't play due to suspension and this time he will be back trying to end this terrible Bognor's run of results. Bognor were apparently a lot better against Havant then a couple of matches before and I think they will score against Fisher too. But I doubt they can win.

Bognor Regis is a club with serious funding problems and instead of bringing some new players, they had to release two players from the club a couple of days ago. Standard defender Budd and scorer Town who just managed to get into the starting eleven both left the club. Their goalkeeper Stoner also wants to leave the club and some players left a couple of weeks ago too.

This is what Bognor's supporters wrote about all these departures:

''... There was a brief interview with Jack in yesterdays Sports Argus (and I'm paraphrasing here as I haven't got the article to hand) but he was basically saying that Craig has gone a bit stale at Bognor and it's best that he leaves, Craig seemingly wants to leave and Jack is actively looking for a new keeper but the finance problem is restricting him. He pretty much said that as Craig is under contract he will continue until he finds someone to replace him. I appreciate that Jack's man-management skills are not exactly his strong point but surely coming out and saying that sort of thing in the local press is not exactly going to inspire Craig to produce his best form whilst he does remain playing for us!...''

''... This whole player thing seems baffling at the minute.the Stoner affair ,Town gone, Johnson gone,Rowlands gone and now Budd...''

''... Im sure Budd will go to someone in our league, maybe better. I still dont understand why we have got rid of him. If he said something to Jack, i think hes done the wrong thing, by just getting rid of him...''

''... you know what this club is like jake.. get rid of some of our best players and replace them with %110 pure s****...''

Fisher will be without suspended defender Plumain who played in every league match so far and that could maybe put Bognor Regis scorers into a chance or two more. Fisher's manager brought in another striker, Thomas from Thurrock – he was their best scorer for the last two seasons and now Fisher's attack force looks very good. Goulding scored seven goals already this season, Tomlin scored three and McCollin (who came from Ryman South outfit Corinthian where he scored 19 goals last season) scored three too. But, now when Thomas is here, he's probably going to take McCollin's place in the starting eleven. Btw, Fisher lost in the FA Cup 2nd qualifying round too, they were playing at home against Margate. It was a surprise victory for a Ryman Premier League outfit Margate (promotion candidates in the league below), but at least Fisher's strikers scored a couple of times – the match ended 3:4 (Goulding, Tomlin and new signing Thomas scored a goal each).

Fisher's away form is 3-0-2 (3:2 win at Maidenhead, 0:3 defeat at Eastleigh, 1:0 win at St Albans, 1:2 defeat at Dorchester and finally a 3:2 win at Braintree).

Fisher's manager Burnett can be proud – a lot of experienced players left Fisher during the summer and what did he do? A simple thing really – he brought in a bunch of young but highly motivated players from Dulwich Hamlet (Ryman South, two leagues below Conference South – btw Burnett was a manager there last season), a teenage winger from League 2 outfit Dagenham (scored three goals, played in every game), another couple of youngsters from leagues below, and now a proved goalscorer who was a Luton (League 1) target during the summer. Nice job.

This OVER 2.75 bet is winning if four or more goals are scored. But even if only three goals are scored, half of the stake is winning and the other half is refunded. If you ask me, very nice Pinnacle odds. If the odds change before you manage to place a bet, 3.25 for OVER 3.5 at Blue Square and Betway sounds great too.

(Stanleybet offers only 1.53 on OVER 2.5 and their OVER 3.5 is pretty lousy too – 2.42. Away win at Stanleybet is only 2.10. StanJames, Sportingbet, Coral and Bet365 offer 2.25 on an away win. 3.25 at Blue Square and Betway for OVER 3.5, sounds very nice...)

UNIBOND PREMIER

(-1.5) Gateshead – Ilkeston 1 (1.92 @Pinnacle) 5 units

Huge difference in quality here. Gateshead are probably the biggest title candidates this season, they have seven wins and one draw (away at promotion candidates Matlock) and are currently 2nd only because they played two matches less than 1st Witton (and 3rd Guiseley). I can't see Ilkeston doing much away at Gateshead, at least not now (after losing three league matches in a row and also losing in the FA Cup 1st qualifying round, away at never-heard Southern Midlands League outfit Sutton Coldfield). Ilkeston's best scorer Palmer left to join Worksop a couple of days ago and they have some injury problems too.

Here's a little match report from their last league match at home against Marine (last Saturday):

''... Manager Nigel Jemson surprised many fans by picking himself to play at sweeper in attempt to bolster his injury ravaged defence. The gamble seemed to be paying off when the Robins took the lead against Marine with an excellent free kick from Jemson (pictured right) himself. Although the manager had to limp off just before galf time things still looked good Neil Ross made it 2-0 early in the second half. With Ilkeston in complete control it came as a bit of a surprise when Paul Woolcott pulled a goal back for Marine on 66 minutes. There did not seem any need to panic but after Ricky Brewer was replaced in defence by Martin Carruthers the wheels appeared to come off the bus. With the Robins defence in total disarray Marine netted three times in seven minutes win a game which they seemed totally out of with eight minutes to go. Manager Nigel Jemson left the field to the sound of the cheering Marine supporters and total silence from the few stunned remaining Ilkeston fans after a game which initially promised so much...''

Just the kind of a match Gateshead players need after the dissapointing (maybe they want to win the league so much that they lacked motivation for the FA Cup) FA Cup 2nd qualifying round against Conference North (league above) outfit Vauxhall. Gateshead were apparently a better team up to the moment when their keeper got sent off and defender Flynn replaced him in goal because they had no reserve goalkeeper. Gateshead lost the match (1:3) but here is their chance for extending a great league run in style. Gateshead's keeper Keen will be on goal for this match – his suspension starts on October 13th.

The only thing that worries me a bit is the 'club of the month' curse. Gateshead have won this award for the first time ever and the award will be presented before this match. Well, I'm not supersticious, but, as Steve Carrell would say in 'The Office (US)', I'm a littlesticious.

Okay, seriously, anything but a strong Gateshead home win would be the biggest surprise in the Unibond Premier league so far this season. Surprises happen of course and the real question is are we going to be very unlucky this time. Hope not.

This bet is winning if Gateshead manage to win with two or more goals margin. If Pinnacle changes this bet to a (-1.75) home win, then it's probably better to bet on OVER 2.75.

(The odds on a regular home win are not that good – Skybet offers 1.44, most of the other bookies offer 1.40. Stanleybet is a little better with their 1.50...)

FT 1:2

CONFERENCE NORTH

Gainsborough – Alfreton OVER 2.5 (1.85 @Pinnacle) 4 units

A little statistical bet. Every single Gainsborough's league match this season was OVER 2.5 and Alfreton played seven OVERs and only three UNDERs. Three or more goals are probably going to happen here – Gainsborough's home matches against Alfreton in the last couple of years ended 4:0 and 2:2 and Alfreton's home matches against Gainsborough ended 3:1 and 1:2.

If the odds at Pinnacle change, Blue Square and Betway offer great 3.25 for OVER 3.5...

(Stanleybet is way more careful, their odds on OVER 3.5 are only 2.42, and the odds on OVER 2.5 are lousy 1.53. Blue Square and Betway offer 3.25 on OVER 3.5. Very nice...)

FT 2:2

CONFERENCE SOUTH

Maidenhead – Newport 2-3 GOALS (1.95 @Betway) 3 units
Maidenhead – Newport 1:1 FT (7.00 @Blue Square) 1 unit

Another little statistical bet – every Newport match this season was UNDER 2.5 and exactly two goals were scored in their last four league matches. Teams from the bottom of the table don't manage to score against Newport but mid-table teams and promotion candidates did manage to score against them. I think Maidenhead should also score at home against Newport – they scored in every match this season except against Bath City in the 4th round. They had three exact scores in the last four matches – 1:1 – and I think this match will end 1:1 (most likely), 0:2 or 1:2 (that would be Newport's first OVER 2.5 match of the season but it's gotta happen sometimes). Only the 0:1 away win can screw up this 2-3 GOALS bet IMO.

Btw, these two teams already played against each other in the league this season – Newport were playing at home and the match ended 1:1. In the 2005/2006 season, Newport won 3:0 when they were playing home and the reverse fixture at Maidenhead ended 1:1 (and season before that, Maidenhead's home match ended with a 2:0 Newport away win). Well look at all that. Gotta try this one, people, I won't be sorry if this bet fails... Most of you already know me – I can't help it when I see so much information all going in the same direction...

(Stanleybet is offering lovely 2.15 on this 2-3 GOALS option and very nice looking 8.00 on 1:1 full time score, but the official odds will always be from online bookies – Stanleybet is available only in a couple of European countries. Blue Square offers 1.91 on this 2-3 GOALS option. Betway and StanJames offer only 6.50 for 1:1 FT...)

FT 2:3

CONFERENCE NORTH

Kettering – Hyde 1 (1.87 @Pinnacle) 3 units

Both of these teams are indeed promotion candidates, but Kettering are the biggest title candidates in this league by far. They've won in all home matches this season (their goal difference at home is 17-4) and Hyde picked up only a point in their last three away matches (1:2 defeat at Harrogate, 3:3 at Gainsborough and finally 1:2 defeat at Southport).

Hyde also lost in the FA Cup 2nd qualifying round (btw, Kettering won 3:1 at home against Redditch) – they were playing away, at mid-table Stalybridge, and lost 0:1. This will no doubt be a tough match and I don't think Kettering can win here as comfortably as they did at home against Vauxhall (6:0) or Boston (3:0) but I think they'll manage to win in the end.

Hyde will be without their standard central midfielder Pickford due to suspension (didn't play in the FA Cup match neither) and Kettering manager brought in defender Collins on a 3-month loan from MK Dons (and a couple of players are finally fit after their injuries). Kettering can't really afford themselves a defeat or even a draw here (and they surely know that if they manage to stop Seddon, Hyde's best scorer, they will do half a job already) because Harrogate (26 points, just like Kettering) are playing away at struggling Hinckley and Southport (23 points) are playing at home against struggling Hucknall. They need these points.

Last season, Kettering won in both matches against Hyde in the Conference North (1:0 at home, 5:3 away).

Pinnacle has this bet as a -0.5 asian handicap, but -0.5 simply means straight home win. If the odds change at Pinnacle, go to the Blue Square, they offer 1.80 on a home win, that's a very nice price too.

(Blue Square offers 1.80, Bet-at-home offers 1.75, StanJames and Skybet offer 1.73. Stanleybet is offering 1.73 also)

FT 0:2

SOUTHERN PREMIER

King's Lynn – Chippenham 1 (1.78 @Pinnacle) 3 units

Southern Premier league seems very tricky this season, at least in this stage. Brackley are currently 1st but just because they played a game more and had some easier matches this month (they picked up just one point in their two home matches against promotion candidates Chippenham and King's Lynn), Hemel Hempstead are 2nd but they're also on/off outfit (lost at home against struggling Swindon) and King's Lynn are 3rd (three points less than Brackley and two points less than Hemel) but they had a really weird schedule so far – they played seven (7) away matches and only one home match, in the last round when they've beat Gloucester. They had a great September with three wins and a draw away at current leaders Brackley and, all in all, did a good job on their neverending away tour. That's why I see them as the biggest favourites for the Southern Premier title this season – they picked up 14 points (4-2-1) in seven away matches and they're traditionally strong at home. Only 6th Rugby (also promotion candidates) managed to beat King's Lynn.

King's Lynn's manager recently brought in a highly experienced defender Fleming (played in Premiership, came from League 2 outfit Rotherham) but I suppose this guy is tired of defending and wants to go forward a bit more – he scored against Gloucester in the last league match and also in the FA Cup 2nd qualifying round against Stourbridge (King's Lynn played away and won 5:0). Stourbridge play only in one league below Southern Premier. In the FA Cup 1st qualifying round, King's Lynn were also playing away from home (won 3:0 at Unibond Premier outfit Lincoln United). There's no doubt about the fact that their fans are looking forward to any home game after nine (9) away matches and just one (1) home match this season.

Chippenham are currently 4th – both them and 5th Team Bath have two points less than King's Lynn. Chippenham's away form is 2-1-1, they've won at current leaders Brackley (who will, in the end, probably just fight for a play-off spot) and 20th Banbury, lost at 17th Hitchin and shared points at 11th Halesowen in the last round – before that, they shared points at home too, they played 1:1 with 15th Corby. I'm not impressed and neither was the manager of Hallen, an outfit from the Western league (two leagues below Southern Premier) who Chippenham managed to beat only 2:0 in the FA Cup 2nd qualifying round. Chippenham almost didn't make it to the 2nd qualifying round at all – their 1st round match ended 1:1 (away at really-never-heard Beaconsfield) but they managed to win in the replay at home. I'm really not impressed, I'm telling you. Draw is IMO the worst thing that can happen to King's Lynn here, but I think they'll manage to win this one. For the home fans.

If the odds at Pinnacle change, go to Sportingbet who offer 1.75 for the home win.

(Stanleybet offers very nice 1.90 on a home win. Sportingbet offers 1.75, Skybet offers 1.73, Bet-at-home and Bwin offer 1.70...)
