ONE-SIDED ETCHED Having started out with a comparatively solitary sound, the Sleeping States have expanded from the nucleus of Markland Starkie into something approaching a full-blown band, featuring two other people (both of whom seem to be drummers, for some reason). The Old Vs. New EP is a project embarked upon to document the transition certain Sleeping States songs have undergone after being reinterpreted for a live performance scenario by Starkie and his newly expanded personnel. The recording has been kept largely untouched, with little in the way of overdubs and studio trickery to detract from the rawness of the sound, and though the songs themselves are carefully polished and finely worked alt. rock outings, there's a punky element to all this that's preserved by the end result.
