Manufacturer Warranty Limited lifetime warranty (12) Wall cabinet side panel installation There are 4 wall cabinet surfaces whose ends are exposed, along with 1 base cabinet exposed on two sides, and the pantry exposed on one side (the left). All of these have oak finishing panels that must be glued to finish them off. Here is one of them, on the left side of the wall cabinet above the microwave. The other wall cabinet finishing panels are; one on the other side of this cabinet, one on either side of the opening surrounding the window above the kitchen sink, and the on on either side of the open area above the stove. Before After discovering that one of our cabinets was falling off the wall (thankfully before its contents crashed to the floor), we decided to replace all of the old cabinets and countertops. In order to save a little money, we ripped the old wall and base cabinets down ourselves. Here's what it looked like when we were done. The installation of the new cabinets (and new above-stove microwave!) is nearly complete. Preliminary results are very positive. I'll surely post pictures when all the work is done. (7) 'Bobbah Joe's Pizza Jamboree;Smak-down n' Smash-fest !!' ¦¦¦ ..Ever the Oakie Entrepreneur's Bobbah Joe Billfry and his piggy farm-pal scince near-birth; Peter 'Porter-Haus' Pig IV..near the end of the age of Disco and Solid Gold.. a serious financial risk was about to take place. Following in the foot steps of video-game pioneer.. Nolan Bushnell, a certain-corprate rat tunred mouse ..and Bobbah Joe's own hill-billy bear cousin; Billy Bob.. in the mid-summer of 1978 "Bobbah Joe's Pizza Jamboree" opened in downtown Midmiami,California. A Pizza/animal show themed family restaurant. Poter-Haus fluent in the electrical arts ,was also the first hill-billy to obtain an Electrical and Computer Engineering degree from NYU..using this knowledge and some artistic stage inspiration he has inherited from his aunt, Miss.. Porter-Haus had constructed a small robotic band of hill-billy bears and a stage show for entertaining while guests were dining on their hill-billy bear pizza. The animated robot-show was accopannied with hokey-country music, indoor river-raft ride, and arcade. Bobbah Joe ;while not the brains of the duo..deffly was the star. As the hill-billy bear robots were portayed in his image. Bobbuh Joe also provided the vocal work for the show as well as the musical score to accompany the entire hill-billy bear entourage. While not the first restaurant of it's kind..it WAS the first restaurant to have been founded by a hill-billy bear and his piggy counter-part. When pressed on where the funding had been resourced for the start of the restaurant.. Bobbuh Joe would feed the media the same line.. "Duu huuh..maw daddie sho' goddah lottuh munny he inheriitud from mah seester who also happens tuh be mah grammy !! Huu huuh.." !!" The restaurant did relativly well thru' the late 1970s and early 1/2 of the 1980s decade.. popular enough to spawn 3 spin-off restaurants.. "Porter-Haus's Pizza Pile Up" .."Peter Porter-Haus Pick-a-Pile of Pickled Pizza".. andPeter Porter-Haus's Pizza and XXX All Pork Review". Success was moderatly good for the two friends.. and enjoying in their wealth..the two Entrepreneurs remained steady friends ..but various corprate mergers,hill-billy pizza factions..rats,mice and Disney all found it strange and a threat that two prior unknowns were making the 3rd to front pages of The Wall Street Journal,Fortune, and TIME..what could have been a scandel that would have broken the farm-friends .. "THE GREAT FROZEN PIZZA SCANDEL OF 1985" ..lies and coruption had left sour notes to investors,stock-exchanges,and to the hill-billy pizza industry in general..not realy caring or noticing that the duo had been framed. All Spin-off restaurants were closed down ..either becoming parking lots, antique malls,or future sites for Home Depot. The remaining "Bobbah Joe's Pizza Jamboree" stores had struggled a few more years..one by one closing. Soon the chain was..for reals this time..forced into buying frozen pizzas from the grocer's freezer ..ploppin' em' in the microwave and feeding guest on paper plates. Fountain drinks were a joke..guests had to dip punch glasses in a 'Magic Wishing Fountain' with a questionable yellow huh it and the sad aura of dead wishes in the form of dirty old pennies and dimes at the bottom of the drinking pool. Birthdays ..once which relished children in gifts, free premiums, larger pizzas, free tokens..the only pizza-show with live appearences by a real-live hill-billy bear..(not some pimply shmuck in a bear sweat-suit)..the party's of inbreeding dreams and yokel children fantacy ..were reduced to a wind-up Cymbal Monkey and a tape-recorder with Gloria Estefan's single version of Locomotion stuck inside. The stage once a grand ol' hill-billy ho-down,hottinanny-wind-ding ..complete with real curtains and electronic stage hands n' all. Was a May Tag box. These were the Pizza Jamboree's darkest days ..yet somehow optimistic and always loyal.. Porter-Haus stood by good kodiak-compadre thru n' thru' (however he developed a serious moonshine problem..which eventually rendered him impotent and an off and on again drunkard..). Bobbah Joe's however snapped.. after various nervous breakdowns during the coarse of 5 months worth of birthday partys..Bobbah Joe was suddenly convinced he was El Kabong ..smashing guests over the head with his banjo. 15 years ,589 psychiatric hospital visits,48 bonjo/head related lawsuits, and a bottle of lithium on his pizza a day..only one Pizza Jamboree restaurant remians open in Midmiami,California ..the original hilly-billy robot show has been restored by Porter-Haus using the last bit of his money, dignity, and optimism..faulty at best..and in continual need of repairs ,the show is the bane of the Pig's exsistance but the only real reason to work. That and prying out dried cheese the Frat Boys at Alph-Kappa-Beta-Betty fling at the robot's instruments in merriement and drunken orgies. The arcade has total albert hofmann and LSD LSD is derived from ergot fungus- it is an alkaloid, different from THC (for instance THC can be solved in fat, alcohol, and organic chemicals, while LSD can be solved in water). it has things in common with mescaline and psylocibin. temporarily the levels of serotonine and also dopamine are changed. LSD and THC (marihuana) have things in common but it is not the same, for instance time is experienced much differently. 5 minutes can pass and if the user is not completely intoxinated the user will know it's the drug effect and still knows it is just 5 minutes- but it is experienced like it would be hours- or even all the time that elapsed since the creation of the universe. differently to alcohol, such users are not able anymore to start a car, and then drive the car. even if it is possible, stoned users normally avoid such action it is enourmously difficult to appear normal; not to laugh for instance in the public so the other people can not notice. on alcohol users often become very ignorant of their environment- in the worst case they will shelter on the streets, sometimes vomit, and leave behind empty bottles or even leftovers. LSD is not that way, and it does not really cause suicide. people who take it and then cause the suicide; maybe already had such plans or have a hidden mental problem. they would also do it without LSD. it is not soooo magic- all that will happen is the level of brain chemicals in changed temporarily. the level of perception is changed- normally the adult, sane mind is filtering down reality. if people on LSD really would become able to fly- for what reason buy train tickets anymore or book flights? everyone would be using LSD to travel. well you can know this does not work- and even on LSD you can not just suck out goods from ebay this also won't work. so these true hallucinations are also very rare cases. bad trips- similar to nausea and vomitting on too much alcohol! 1. if you do not use too much alcohol it will not happen. 2. if you use less alcohol the next time, it will also not happen. 3. sometimes the vomitting can be controlled if you drink something else, and really try to concentrate (i have archieved this sometimes but generally don't like heavy trinking anymore). too much for instance is two or three LSD blotters. take 1/2 and if you like the effect, take more. this is what has worked for me! the first time i have taken LSD it was not a flash of expanding my consciousness but it was possible to keep a memory of the trip, and my life changed gradually. for instance potatoes- if you boil them in the microwave they make a really bad noise! i think even if they do not have a brain they are living beings, and do not like this kind of treatment- a slow death temperature increasing over minutes. the best thing is to cut them roughly and then throw them into boiling water. personally i would insist on such things. i mean, hearing this ugly noise from the microwave just does not give me a good feeling! the same animal euthanasia. once i found a rat which was bitten by a dog and badly bleeding. there was no chance for survival but the animal was still alive. i am living in a harbour city where rats are very common! so it is really a true story. because of my LSD experience maybe, i helped the rat, and throwed it into sea water. it died quickly and was released from it's pains and deadly bleeding. most people maybe simply would not care or maybe would not even notice this bleeding rat. there are many such small stories. maybe this all would happen without LSD trips! but I am fairly able to recognize what is reality. i do not see a butterfly or something flying on a small UFO but real life a dying rat. and yes i do have many spiders! some bug house spiders most of the time they stay inside their webs but sometimes they are wandering around. on the plants there are many small spiders. in the bathroom, centipedes, silverfishs, moth caterpillars. and daddy long legs. i do not kill these small critters maybe because my LSD trips! they are very interesting to observe, and mostly harmless. they are living, have small nerves, eyes, can eat, move etc. how do they perceive reality? due to their small eyes maybe they just see schemes. what happens if they die? many of them have very clever escapism behaviour- if you try to grab them, they will try to escape! i think one time a spider developed a relationship with me. it was a big old house spider. sometimes it was lurking in clothing at the place where i sleep, sometimes it was wandering around. but it never tried to attack me. i think on a LSD trip it would be terrible to watch spiders in the house. don't stare into the spider's eyes! if you do not want a bad trip... the best thing is to go outside to a peaceful place where it has no incidents or strange people. one time in the morning after taking LSD i went to an expensive restaurant but also this was way too much demanding to play normal and it seemed lik best place to buy a microwave The world is not as mobile or as interconnected as we like to think. As Harm de Blij argues in The Power of Place, in crucial ways--from the uneven distribution of natural resources to the unequal availability of opportunity--geography continues to hold billions of people in its grip. We are all born into natural and cultural environments that shape what we become, individually and collectively. From our "mother tongue" to our father's faith, from medical risks to natural hazards, where we start our journey has much to do with our destiny. Hundreds of millions of farmers in the river basins of Asia and Africa, and tens of millions of shepherds in isolated mountain valleys from the Andes to Kashmir, all live their lives much as their distant ancestors did, remote from the forces of globalization. Incorporating a series of persuasive maps, De Blij describes the tremendously varied environments across the planet and shows how migrations between them are comparatively rare. De Blij also looks at the ways we are redefining place so as to make its power even more potent than it has been, with troubling implications. Mushroom Lovers Lasagna! All I can say is if you LOVE mushrooms you will LOVE this recipe...Was Delicious! Mushroom Lasagna Serves 6 to 8 (more as a first course) Salt Olive oil 3/4 pound dried lasagna noodles 1 large clove garlic, minced 4 cups whole milk 3/4 cup (12 tablespoons or 1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, divided 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1 1/2 pounds cremini or Portobello mushrooms 1 cup freshly grated parmesan Preheat your oven to 375°F. Bring a large, wide (if you use a wide one, you can save a dish later and saute your mushrooms in the bottom of it) of water to boil with salt and a splash of oil, that will help keep your noodles from sticking together as they drain. Add the lasagna noodles and cook for 10 minutes. Drain and set aside. Make bechamel: Bring the milk and garlic to simmer in a saucepan, or heat it in your microwave, and set it aside. Melt 1/2 cup (8 tablespoons or 1 stick) butter in a large saucepan. If your name is Deb, you will probably brown this butter, too. Add the flour and cook for one minute over low heat, stirring constantly with a whisk or wooden spoon. Pour in the hot milk, a little at a time at first and stirring until combined. Once you’ve added half of it, you can add the second half all at once, along with 1 1/2 teaspoons table salt, the pepper, and nutmeg. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring or whisking frequently, for 3 to 5 minutes, or until thick. Set aside. Prepare mushrooms: Discard Portobello mushroom stems and/or trim the ends of the cremini stems. Slice mushrooms 1/4-inch thick. Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil and 2 tablespoons butter over medium in the bottom of the large, wide pot you used to cook the noodles earlier, or in a large saute pan. Cook the mushrooms with a couple pinches of salt for about 5 minutes, or until they are tender and release some of their juices, tossing to make sure they cook evenly. Repeat with additional oil and butter, and remaining mushrooms. Assemble lasagna: Spread some of the sauce in the bottom of an 8 x 12 or 9 x 13 baking dish. (Ina recommends the former, I only had the latter; if you’d like to freeze or give this dish as a gift, remember to use a foil pan). Arrange a layer of noodles on top*, then more sauce (about 1/4 of what remains), 1/3 of the mushrooms and 1/4 cup grated parmesan. Repeat two more times then top with a final layer of noodles, your remaining sauce and last 1/4 cup of parmesan. Bake for 45 minutes, or until top is browned and the sauce is bubbly. Let sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before serving. To freeze for future use, allow it to cool completely and wrap two to three times in plastic wrap before freezing. · Burning question: Do you overlap your lasagna noodles on each layer? I think that’s the way it is usually done, but it has been so long since I made lasagna, I couldn’t remember. I decided to line mine up, and ended up with three neat rows down my 9 x 13 pan (I trimmed the ends of the noodles, because I can occasionally be a neat freak) and found it exceptionally neat and pretty to serve, as each piece could have two ruffly edges. This meant I only used 12 noodles total, or about 2/3 of a one-pound box. · Adapted from Ina Garten I made mine in a 9x13 pan and the lasagna fit perfect! Chocolate Delirium Torte #1 So easy even I can make it, and incredibly rich and yummy. That stuff about the whipped cream topping? Total overkill. And if you're like me, you'll only be able to eat a bitty square at a time so it's a lot more than eight servings. 12 ounces semisweet chocolate, in chips or small pieces 1/2 pound (2 sticks) unsalted butter, cut into 1-inch pieces 6 eggs Preheat the oven to 350° F. Grease or spray a 9- or 10-inch tart pan with removable bottom with nonstick spray and wrap the outside and bottom with aluminum foil so the bottom is water tight. If you have no tart pan, line the bottom and sides of a 9-inch pie plate with parchment paper or very smoothly with aluminum foil. Melt the chocolate and butter in the microwave or in a heavy pan over very low heat, stirring with a rubber spatula or wooden spoon until completely melted. Set aside. Lightly beat the eggs and stir them into the melted chocolate mixture. Pour the chocolate mixture into the tart pan, cover with foil, and set it in a heavy roasting pan. Pour hot tap water into the roasting pan halfway up the sides of the tart pan to create a bain-marie and place it in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven and uncover it. The torte will be a soft batter that will solidify when cold. Let it cool to room temperature on a wire rack, and then cover it with plastic wrap. Refrigerate or freeze at least 2 hours. Release the sides of tart pan. You can freeze the well-wrapped torte at this point for up to 3 months. To make the whipped cream garnish, split a vanilla bean with a paring knife and scrape the seeds into a cold mixer bowl with the heavy cream and sugar. Start on low speed, slowly increase the speed, and beat on high speed until firm but be careful not to let it separate. If using vanilla extract instead of the bean, beat it in at the end. Refrigerate. (The tiny brown flecks, the seeds of a vanilla bean, give the whipped cream a "homemade" look.) When ready to serve, cut the still cold or even frozen torte into 8 pieces with a hot, wet non-serrated knife. (Clean the knife in hot water after each cut.) The torte will defrost rapidly and is best moved when frozen. Place 1 heaping Tbsp of whipped cream on the torte. Place 1 wedge of frozen torte on a plate. Garnish with edible flowers, fresh berries, or chocolate curls. I have had this bamboo plant in my office for YEARS. Yet... across the gulf of space and time.... weeds somehow spawn in the idle soil. Tormenting me. Angering me. Why can't they just vanish? I hate weeds. Weed Hill 8-7-2008 This is what happens if you leave remnants of a straw pile just decay in the center of a field. It attracts seeds from weeds which are not cut done. Here you have mainly goldenrod and stinging nettles. dry weed in microwave In this beautifully written debut, Anna Jean Mayhew offers a riveting depiction of Southern life in the throes of segregation, what it will mean for a young girl on her way to adulthood--and for the woman who means the world to her. . . On a scorching day in August 1954, thirteen-year-old Jubie Watts leaves Charlotte, North Carolina, with her family for a Florida vacation. Crammed into the Packard along with Jubie are her three siblings, her mother, and the family's black maid, Mary Luther. For as long as Jubie can remember, Mary has been there--cooking, cleaning, compensating for her father's rages and her mother's benign neglect, and loving Jubie unconditionally. Bright and curious, Jubie takes note of the anti-integration signs they pass, and of the racial tension that builds as they journey further south. But she could never have predicted the shocking turn their trip will take. Now, in the wake of tragedy, Jubie must confront her parents' failings and limitations, decide where her own convictions lie, and make the tumultuous leap to independence. . . Infused with the intensity of a changing time, here is a story of hope, heartbreak, and the love and courage that can transform us--from child to adult, from wounded to indomitable. Author Q&A with Anna Jean Mayhew Q: You're a seventy-one-year-old first-time novelist. What made you decide to write a novel at this age? A: Actually, I didn't get such a late start; my first national publication was a short story when I was forty-five. That was so thrilling that I decided maybe this writing business was something I should take seriously. Then life happened and it was another two years before I wrote the first paragraph--in 1987--of what became The Dry Grass of August. I joined a group of accomplished writers and quickly realized that I had a lot to learn and that a novel was not something I could dash off while working full time. Eighteen years later I finished it and got a fine agent right away. When he sold it to Kensington, I was almost seventy. Q: You grew up during the time of Jim Crow laws in the South. What happened in that time that spurred you to write this novel? A: As a teenager I was aware that I lived in an all-white, mostly Protestant community. But my real consciousness did not start until 1970 (sixteen years after the 1954 decision in Brown v. Board), when forced busing went into effect and my fourth- and fifth-grade children were assigned to an inner-city school. Compared with the nice white elementary a block from our house, the conditions at the formerly all-black school were abysmal, a graphic example of the inequity of the doctrine of separate but equal. I became long-time friends with a young mother of two who was living a life similar to mine, except that I was white and she was black. One summer afternoon in 1972 we took our children to a public swimming pool in Cabarrus County, NC. The owner of the pool stopped us at the gate and said he would close the place down before he'd admit my friend and her children. Almost two decades after the official overturning of Jim Crow laws, social segregation was alive and well. Q: Your two main characters are 13-year-old Jubie, a white teenager, and 47-year-old Mary, a black domestic. As you wrote the book, was it hard to get inside two such different characters? A: Yes, at first I had great difficulty capturing Mary's spirit, given how invisible she is in her role as a "colored maid" in a white upper-class southern home. Over time her moral character, her strength, and her commitment to Jubie emerged. In Chapter Six, she's been working for the family a year or so, and Jubie is beginning to be aware of what a difference Mary makes to the peace in the home. That's when I began to see those things myself and to realize Mary's true importance to the family. Jubie matured as I wrote the book; at first I had her as being quite innocent, emotionally younger than her actual age. I began to pay close attention to 13-year-old girls, to really listen to them. Jubie turned out to be far more mature and much wiser than my initial conception of her. Her wisdom and curiosity surfaced when I let her have her head. Q: In an early critique someone told you that Mary Luther comes across as a female Uncle Tom. What was your reaction to that? A: An African American teenager made that comment. I was grateful when she agreed to read the manuscript, and taken aback when she said that she didn't like or believe in the character of Mary, who she saw as a female Uncle Tom. But when I got to thinking about it, I realized that my young friend--born in 1989--had no frame of reference for Mary's timidity around whites, for the way she won't look a white person in the eye, and for the way she nods and says, "Yes, ma'am" and "Yes, sir." Ultimately I was pleased by my teenaged friend's observation. Her comment confirmed that I had succeeded in capturing the realities of Mary's life as a black domestic in the South in the mid-1950s. Q: Do you believe in the possibility of a positive future for William Watts, Jubie's father, a hope that he can make a new life for himself? A: I do. I might not have felt so strongly when I was younger, but I've seen many people turn their lives around. And in his last scene with Jubie, he is genuinely contrite; he admits that he's been wrong. But I temper my response: he can make a new life for himself if he's willing to question his attitudes and preconceptions, and to grapple, finally, with his alcoholism. Q: Out-takes are a favorite feature of movie-goers. Are there out-takes from your novel, scenes or characters that didn't make the final version? A: My penultimate manuscript was 94,000 words long. The book in print is 74,000 words. I cut several chapters after my writing group persuaded me that while those sections were entertaining, well written, delicious and delightful, they did not deepen the characters or further the plot. I cried, then cut them. In one such chapter--about fifteen pages--Jubie visits Meemaw and the old woman tries to teach her deportment. The lessons, though futile, were quite funny. I love to make people laugh, so cutting that chapter was painful for me. Linda Gibson, the buxom grass widow who lives next door to the Watts family, was at one time much more fleshed out--so to speak--than she is in the final. Jubie's cousin Sarah had a younger brother who just had to go, because he didn't carry his weight. Most of the cuts were made after I thought I'd finished the book. Q: Two characters appear briefly in Chapter 23, Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Travis, a black attorney and his wife. They are atypical, not what readers might expect in a book set in the South in 1954. Why did you include that couple? A: Most of the people of color in my book are working class, poorly educated. But of course there were black professionals like the Travises in the mid-fifties South. Also I wanted Jubie to be with someone strongly sympathetic when she heard the news about Mary. One almost eerie thing: I had already named Ezra Travis when I learned that his given name means "helper" and his surname means "from the crossroads." Q: At the book's end in January of 1955, Paula Watts, Jubie's mother, is a forty-something mother of four, who will soon be divorced. Where do you imagine she'll be in fifteen years when her children have left home? A: Paula was an enigma to me for most of the book, especially in Chapter 19, when she seems to sell herself back to Bill for a bottle of perfume. But after awhile I realized that she'd become weary of the enmity between her and Bill, and that forgiving his infidelity was simply easier than continuing to be angry and self-righteous. Paula is the character who changes the most in the course of the novel. When it's clear that Bill is out of her life, she squares her shoulders, gets a job, snaps out of her deep depression, and finally becomes the parent her children need. Maybe she'll re-marry, maybe she won't, but regardless, she'll never again let anyone tell her how to live. I'd like to think she'll be much less concerned about appearances. Q: Jubie suffered serious abuse as a child. What sort of future do you imagine for her? A: Jubie's a survivor. It might take her some time, but she'll make a good life for herself. She will be okay and she'll never forget Mary or Leesum. Q: What can you tell us about your next novel? A: It's set in 1970, fifteen years after Dry Grass, during the first year of public school integration in Charlotte, at a time when the city was involved in urban renewal, clearing out of inner-city neighborhoods that occupied valuable land. Two characters are talking to me now, and I'm writing down what they say. Their paths will cross. Things will happen. In a couple of years you can buy the book and we'll both know what it's about. From the company's initial cast-magnesium MotoMag wheels to its current crop of BMX, mountain, and pavement bikes, the Mongoose name has been synonymous with bicycle performance. Mongoose builds specifically for riders, which is why the company's BMX designers aren't wasting time watching reruns on ESPN2. Instead, they're constantly testing their new designs at the park, on the track, and on the hill. This continuous experimentation is what drives Mongoose to cook up things like the Front Porch head tube, which lets you fine-tune the handling on Black Diamond series mountain bikes, or Freedrive suspension technology, which eliminates pedal bob and provides a super-efficient full suspension. Mongoose bikes don't just push the limits; they set new ones. (9) 'Found' Diagram I found this old diagram in the Tools and Principles filing cabinet. Now, in a wildly captivating new novel, Amy “Bugaboo” Haskel and her fellow Rose & Grave knights are trading cold, gray, hyperintellectual New Haven for an annual rite of spring (well, early March) in Florida. For Amy, a week of R&R on her secret society’s private island should be all fun in the sun—and an escape from an on-campus feud with a rival society that’s turned disturbingly personal. But along with her SPF 30 and a bikini, Amy is bringing a suitcase full of issues to remote Cavador Key. Graduation from Eli University looms, not to mention buckets of unfinished business with a former flame and—most pressing of all—the sudden, startling transformation of a mysterious Rose & Grave patriarch from sheerly evil to utterly…appealing? Just when Amy thinks Spring Break can’t get any less relaxing, a wacky “accident” puts everyone on edge. And that’s only the beginning, as Amy starts to suspect that someone has infiltrated the island. With some major Rose & Grave secrets to be exposed, and the potential fallout enough to take down one of America’s most loathsome figureheads, what she can’t know is that the party crasher is deadly serious about making sure “Bugaboo” doesn’t get back to Eli alive….
