Floor and underlayment We used poly sheeting as an underlayment to prevent moisture. The laminate boards have preinstalled padding so we didn't need to do any. GET IN ON THE FLOOR LYRICS : FLOOR FITTERS YORKSHIRE : BUY HARDWOOD FLOORS Get In On The Floor Lyrics
The past is only the future with the lights on 139/365 Okay, not brilliant, but my laptop hates me & I didn't want to spend too long on this. & then I added a teeny tiny butterfly. For kicks. Anyway, last night my brother & I watched The Return of the King & at the end, just after Bilbo, Frodo & Gandalf have sailed off & Sam is walking home I got all teary, & then my brother hopped up onto my bed to give me a hug & I just thought he was going to bed before the end of the movie but then he just hugged me & said he was really going to miss me. It was very sweet & lovely. He's been nicer since we had that talk with him a few days ago. Oh & we ate popcorn & he & Will always eat their popcorn with chocolate spread so he got me to try it & omgg it was such an interesting taste, but very sickly. He loves it though. So today I read another book, & then tried to edit some photos but my brother got moody at me because he wanted all the bandwidth for his silly xbox game & so my computer was extra extra slow & technology hates me anyway so I had to restart twice & then this AVG stuff comes up, but it's acting just like a virus, but then again AVG fucks up my laptop nearly as much as viruses. Right now I'm on the floor watching Torchwood while my whole family sits on the sofa. I only lay on the floor because my parents wanted to sit on the sofa together, & then my brother went & sat in between them so there was no point in me lying on the floor. So I'm left out right now. I'm a little annoyed by that. Even the cat's sitting on the sofa. & this is really awkward for my back. & I'm having to view the screen from the side because otherwise my Mom spies on me over my shoulder which is a complete violation of my privacy, in my opinion. This episode of Torchwood is good though. Pity they're only doing a 5 part series. I was so annoyed last night when they killed off another main character. & I think that annoying Lois character is going to be in the next series. Oh earlier I was singing along in Spanish to some Shakira songs when I heard this tapping on the window coming from outside. My Dad usually plays tricks on me like that, so I went to the window & pulled back the curtain, & there was no one there! So I went upstairs & my Dad was in his study. So I made him come downstairs & check, & he went outside & searched & it was my Mom! She never does things like that. It actually creeped me out. I went out into the garden to talk to her, & she didn't see me so when I started talking she jumped & gave a small scream, so I got her back. =) P.S.: Things are quite shit at the moment. 138/365 [27:365] Given to a Girl, Written by a Boy This is the only lonely picture waiting on my floor littering my shore this is the last true burning letter given to a girl written by a boy living in a world created to destroy. Ruthless by Something Corporate So i've been thinking about doing this one for a while...i just didn't think THIS is what i'd come up with for it. See, i have this little notebook, it's like 6 inches tall, and i have about 5 pages of ideas and quotes for photography. I had this quote, and i knew i wanted to do a letter or something for it, but i didn't actually plan on using a real one haha. This is from my boyfriend. It says "To, la muchacha increible. From tus novio perdedor." =) To the incredible girl, from your loser boyfriend. See, now you can see that we LOVE espanol haha. So anyway, got home from downstate (thank the lord! haha) today. And can you believe it: we got home EARLY. WOW. Like, before 5 pm. I think that's a record. And we LEFT early. Like 11:30. My mom always says we'll leave around 12, and everyone in my family knows that means around 1 or 2 haha. But we actually left at 11:30 and got home 4:45ish. So i had time to relax. Then my mom went out and rented Slumdog Millionaire (SEE IT IF YOU HAVEN'T!!), and she asked if Paul wanted to come over to watch with us, so i texted him and he brought his sister over (to see my sister) and we watched the movie then played CatchPhrase! Haha that game is very funnn. Then Paul left and i took this picture and read more, then went to bed! Ha. So yeah. That was my day and i really don't like this picture hahaha. 4-1-09 Similar posts: loft flooring chipboard download killing floor map pack shawty burning on the dance floor hardwood floor cost per square foot outdoor flooring solutions cascada evacuate the dancefloor cd cover parking garage floor plan underfloor heating boiler automobile floor mats floor mats for standing |

42nd Street 42nd Street The Chrysler Building, a stunning statement in the Art Deco style by architect William Van Alen, embodies the romantic essence of the New York City skyscraper. Built in 1928-30 for Walter P. Chrysler of the Chrysler Corporation, it was "dedicated to world commerce and industry."- The tallest building in the world when completed in 1930, it stood proudly on the New York skyline as a personal symbol of Walter Chrysler and the strength of his corporation. History of Construction The Chrysler Building had its beginnings in an office building project for William H. Reynolds, a real-estate developer and promoter and former New York State senator. Reynolds had acquired a long-term lease in 1921 on a parcel of property at Lexington Avenue and 42nd Street owned by the Cooper Union tor the Advancement of Science and Art. In 1927 architect William Van Alen was hired to design an office tower to be called the Reynolds Building for the site. Publicized as embodying new principles in skyscraper design,*' the projected building was to be 67 stories high rising 808 feet, and it was "to be surmounted by a glass dome, which when lighted from within, will give the effect of a great jewelled sphere."-' In October, 1928, however, the office building project and the lease on the site were taken over by Walter P. Walter Percy Chrysler (1875-1940), one of America's foremost automobile manufacturers, was a self-made man who worked his way up through the mechanical an; manufacturing aspects of the railroad business before joining the Buick Motor Company as works manager in 1912. In 1921 he reorganized Willys-Overland Company, and then took over as chairman of the reorganization and management committee of the Maxwell Motor Company, eventually assuming the presidency. This enabled Chrysler to introduce in 1924 the car bearing his name which presented such innovations as four-wheel hydraulic brakes and high compression motor. These diplomats were murdered, ambushed, lynched by mobs, hit by landmines, killed in gunfire, died in mysterious plane crashes or were among the victims of bombs rocking their country’s embassies abroad. It hence goes without saying that the number of US diplomats killed or assassinated in the line of duty is exceptionally high. Although William Palfrey, who was lost at sea in 1780, was the first US diplomat who had died an unnatural death in 1780, Harris Fudger was the first-ever American Foreign Service official to be murdered. He was killed in 1825 at Bogota (Colombia). The figure of 234 off-shore deaths of US Foreign Service personnel in over 230 years hence signifies that on an average, one American diplomat has been dying every year under natural, accidental, heroic or other inspirational circumstances during his foreign posting. Archives of American Foreign Service Association, the State Department at Washington DC and a thorough study of author Walter Burges Smith’s book “America’s diplomats and consuls of 1776-1865: a geographic and biographic directory of the Foreign Service from the Declaration of Independence to the end of the Civil War,” reveal that some 47 American envoys posted abroad had perished due to epidemics and other tropical diseases, 28 had found their planes/helicopters crashing in mid air and 13 were either lost at sea or had drowned/burned while saving lives. Similarly, 10 high-profile US diplomats succumbed to injuries in road accidents, four were killed in earthquakes, two have died of volcanic eruption, two could not bear exhaustion and work fatigue, one lost his life in a hurricane and one had an accidental fall in a Prisoner of War (POW) Camp in Hong Kong. Of these 111 US Foreign Service officials, who have were killed during their foreign postings, at least eight have met their deaths in an unnatural way in Pakistan. These eight American Foreign Service personnel, who died unnaturally in Pakistan, are Sergeant Steven Crowley, US Army Warrant Officer Bryan Ellis, Arnold Raphel (US Ambassador to Pakistan), Brigadier General Herbert Wassom (Chief of the US military group in Pakistan), Gary Durell (a CIA communications technician), Jackie Van Landingham (a consulate secretary), Barbara Green (US Embassy Islamabad) and David Foy (a Facilities Maintenance Officer at the US Consulate Karachi). While Sergeant Steven Crowley, a 20-year old Marine Security Guard was hit by a lethal bullet during the siege of the US Embassy in Islamabad on November 21, 1979, the burned corpse of a 30-year old US Army Warrant Officer, Bryan Ellis, was also recovered from his apartment on the same day. Crowley and Ellis were killed a day after Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini had claimed that Americans were behind the November 20 takeover of the Grand Al-Haram Mosque at Makkah. As soon as Khomeini’s claim was repeated in media on November 21, 1979 a group of enraged Pakistani students had stormed the 32-acre US Embassy at Islamabad. The rioters were also infuriated by incorrect radio reports that Washington had bombed the Grand Mosque at Makkah. After bringing the embassy gate down, the mob fired gunshots and pelted stones at the building’s windows. As Ambassador Arthur Hummel Jr., was out of the building for lunch, Marine Steven Crowley was posted on the Embassy roof to assess the demonstration. A corporal assigned to the Marine Security Guard Battalion Detachment in Islamabad, Crowley was shot by a sniper just above his left ear while he was doing his job. Although the US Embassy staffers had organized themselves into groups by blood type similar to Crowley’s, in case a transfusion was needed, their injured colleague never actually regained consciousness. At sunset, as the rioters had begun to disperse, Sergeant Lloyd Miller climbed the roof and brought down the body of Crowley over his shoulder. Within just two days, some 400 shocked US diplomats had flown out of Pakistan. The Pakistani government had reportedly paid US $121 million to the US, as a cost to rebuild the Embassy compound, after having failed to prevent the incident. Cameron Barr, a Washington Post staff writer, wrote in one of his articles a few years ago,” In a day of orchestrated anti-American outrage, Pakistanis were attacking several US facilities across the country. Nearly 140 people — US diplomats, Pakistani staff members, a visiting Time magazine correspondent (Marcia Gauger) — had assembled in the vault, a suite of rooms on the top floor of the three-story embassy building. University of Cincinnati Solar Decathlon House A Way with Walls The main living area of the University of Cincinnati Solar Decathlon home is a single airy space that has no walls to divide cooking, eating, and dining areas. Innovative walls, however, are key to the home's inventive design. The living space is particularly airy because the whole south-facing wall separating it from the home's courtyard is glass. That glass wall also lets in warming sunlight in the winter and provides great daylighting. The wall's specially produced triple-pane, low-e glass maintains excellent insulation, and louvered shades keep out unwanted summer solar heating. Ingenuity is evident in the rest of the home's walls as well. All have clerestory windows at the top to complete the home's daylighting system. They are all also clad with a Formica rain screen separated by 3 in. (7.6 cm) from the main walls to reduce pressure on them—a novel use of a material normally found inside a home. "Novel, environmentally friendly, and efficient material use was a main goal," says architectural graduate student Christopher Davis. The most distinctive feature of the Cincinnati Decathlon home, however, is a wall that stands separate from the house. A "fence" of 120 evacuated tube solar thermal collectors forms the outer wall of the courtyard. Hot water from these collectors is used and reused to heat and cool the house as well as to provide domestic hot water. Hot water from the solar collector tubes flows into a "hot" storage tank, from which it goes to either the absorption chiller or a heat exchanger for the home's forced-air heating and cooling system, depending on the season. The "spent" hot water then flows to a "warm" storage tank to be put to work again. Both the domestic hot water system and a radiant floor heating system draw from this tank. I had a chance to tour the Zimmerman House this weekend, which is owned and maintained by the Currier Art Museum, with a couple of great friends. This is one of Wright's Usonian houses 'Usonian' is a term usually referring to a group of approximately sixty middle-income family homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright beginning in 1936 with the Jacobs House.[1] The "Usonian Homes" were typically small, single-story dwellings without a garage or much storage, L-shaped to fit around a garden terrace on odd (and cheap) lots, with native materials, flat roofs and large cantilevered overhangs for passive solar heating and natural cooling, natural lighting with clerestory windows, and radiant-floor heating. A strong visual connection between the interior and exterior spaces is an important characteristic of all Usonian homes. BOOK OF HOURS LEAF Ref 86 verso This is an illuminated leaf from a Book of Hours for the Use of Soissons, France, c.1370-1400. On the recto are the final few words that end a prayer at the end of the Passion Sequence. On the verso is the opening of the Hour of Matins, the first of the Hours of the Holy Trinity. The recto of the leaf has a pencil folio number 153. If it were not for the pencil folio number it would be impossible to be specific as to the text that this leaf contains. The Bute catalogue description, whilst not identifying the folios that contained the formal openings, did identify the folios that contained miniatures. A miniature of the Holy Trinity was painted on folio 154b (verso?). This would be placed at the beginning of the Hours of the Holy Trinity. This opening was therefore immediately before that miniature. The Hours of the Holy Trinity were preceded in book by the Passion Sequence. The size of the leaf is 154mm x 116mm (6 1/10ins. x 4 6/10ins.). Purchased from Bonhams and Butterfields, San Francisco, USA. PROVENANCE: - 1. The leaf is from a Book of Hours where the Office of the Virgin was for the Use of Soissons and where the Litany included St. Madard of Soissons, which was probably taken to Italy by the fifteenth century and which was Marquess of Bute MS. 128 (G. 23). 2. There are very few details in the Bute archives relating to the collection of illuminated manuscripts. The earliest (and only) reference to MS. 128 is found in the library catalogue for St. John's lodge, Regent's Park, London, in 1896: - 'Missale Romanum. A.M.S. with 31 paintings, & illuminated letters. Anteroom. 4.A.' St. John's Lodge was leased by the Bute family from the Crown Estates from 1888 until 1916. The later location of this item is unclear, though it probably ended up in the library of one of the other Bute houses in London (possibly 39, Belgrave Square), and would probably have come to Mount Stewart after the Second World War. The 3rd. Marquess of Bute (1847 - 1900) is known to have acquired several medieval manuscripts and was a great theologian, so he may have purchased this item. The only other likely purchasers would be the 3rd. Earl of Bute (1713 - 1792) or his son the 1st. Marquess (1744 - 1814) who were great collectors of artworks and books for their Bedfordshire mansion Luton Hoo (later Luton Park) which was sold in the 1840's. Unfortunately, records relating to their purchases are sketchy. The fact that MS. 128 does not appear to have been looked at by R. B. Knowles when compiling his report for the Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts in 1872 may be significant, but it is impossible to tell. (The above information provided by Mr. Andrew Mclean, Archivist, Mount Stewart). 3. This Book of Hours sold at Sotheby's, London, 13th. June 1983, Lot 6 in the "The Bute Collection of forty-two Illuminated Manuscripts and Miniatures" at the hammer price of ?22,000 to H. P. Kraus, 16 East 46th. Street, New York, USA. 4. The Book of Hours was broken up by Kraus and most of the leaves were sold to either private collectors or dealers. Non were sold to public institutions. Non of the formal openings were ever included in any of the catalogues issued by Kraus. A theft of leaves occurred probably in August 1983. They were in display drawers and were stolen over a period of weeks, quite systematically. It took Kraus quite some time to realise that this was happening. Not all the available leaves were stolen and several were sold to Bruce Ferrini directly after the discovery of the theft. On recovery of the stolen leaves they were the property of the insurance company and they were never returned to Krause. On two or three occasions recovered leaves did appear at auction. (The above information supplied by Mrs. Mary Ann Folter, proprietor of H.P.Kraus). 5. Twenty of the twenty-three miniatures and three of the eleven leaves with formal openings were reported as stolen from Kraus in a New York Police Department Circular dated 29th. March 1984 (attached at Appendix 1) and an Art Dealers Association of America Theft Notice dated 20th. April 1984 (attached at Appendix 2). The leaf was certainly one of those stolen, as a picture of it is included in both publications. (Note - Both the New York Police Department and the Art Dealers Association of America have been contacted and asked for information about the recovery of the stolen leaves and how they were put back into the market place but neither replied.) 6. Lot 3016 in Bonhams and Butterfields, San Francisco, sale of Books and Manuscripts on 25th. June 2003. Not sold in this sale and purchased on a Private Treaty basis. (Note - Bonhams and Butterfields were asked if they would contact the vendor of the leaf with a view to that person providing information as to how, and from where, the leaf was obtained by them. Unfortunately the vendor has not made contact.) [Buses in Beijing]???? Jinghua BK6182 ?????? BPT #14134 Front-right at Huizhongli A BK6182 semi-low-floor rear-engine non-air-conditioning articulated city bus made by Jinghua, Beijing One of the prior mass-produced 18m rear-engine articulated buses in China, BK6182 and its sibling BK6182B (that carries a different engine) have a significant influence on China's articulated bus's design and manufacture. After their release, a surging number of domestic bus makers shifted their focus from costly, complicated low-floor articulated buses to more affordable semi-low-floor ones. Meanwhile, Beijing also led the trend of using rear-engine articulated buses on lines other than BRT. Propulsion of BK6182 comes from a 250hp Cummins ISBe250 30 Euro III diesel engine, and is transferred by an Allison T310R 6AT gearbox with integrated retarder. Linking the two sections is a Chinese-made Ikarus hydraulic, electrically-controlled articulation bogie. At all three entrances, the floor is two steps above the ground. Face design of BK6182(B) is generally a simple copy from MAN Lion's City, but the tail is in an original, quite sleek pattern. All three doors are 1280mm width, allowing rapid passenger flow boarding and alighting. Interior arrangement is a little better than that of the DD6181s, although considerable room is wasted. The biggest problem of BK6182(B) is the very disconcerting quality---undefined assembly, and a high malfunction rate. In the picture, Fleet No. 14134 (BPT Division 1, diesel articulated bus, code 134) is captured at the crossing in front of Huizhongli Bus Station. The bus is assigned to Line 387, but at the moment it is off-service, proceeding to the north gate of the Huizhongli Bus Station's parking lot to pick up diesel in the refilling spot for both CNG and diesel buses. Line 387 is a "National Youth Model Bus Line"; however, the line bears terrible criticism of its extremely low speed---on the 3rd Ring Road of Beijing where the speed limit is mainly 50-80km/h, buses on Line 387 "stroll" at the speed of 20-30km/h. Additionally, the drivers remove their foot from the pedal 50m behind the bus stops and let the buses taxi into the stops depending on inertia. [Buses in Beijing]??????-???? Youngman Neoplan - Beijing Huayu JNP6120GD/BJD-WG120N Two JNP6120GD/BJD-WG120N low floor trolley-buses jointly built by Youngman Neoplan, Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Research Institute (generally considered as CSR Times today) and Beijing Trolley-buses Plant Based on a Neoplan Electroliner body introduced by Youngman Neoplan, JNP6120GD is the first mass-produced 12m low floor trolleybuses with AC motor in China. “JNP6120GD” is the model name from the main builder, Youngman Neoplan, but since Youngman is not qualified as a trolley-bus manufacturer, JNP6120GD is registered as BJD-WG120N, under Beijing Trolley-buses Plant, which also builds trolley-buses on its own basically for Beijing. Power comes from a 100kW (134hp) asynchronous induction motor made by Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive, which also provided the control system with VVVF switch. The auxiliary power source is a lead-acid battery pack, storing electricity during regular run for off-wire operation when proceeding along or across streets where mid-air wires are not allowed or inconvenient to pull. 100 units of JNP6120GDs were assigned to Line 103 and Line 108, two most important trolley-bus lines in Beijing, in December 2006. The fabulous trolley-buses’ debut invited enormous approval and praise for their elegant styling, low floor design, absorbing ride and extremely low noise. Time verifies that their quality is worth trusting. What attracts bus fans is the gripping sound given out by the AC+VVVF power train. In the picture, Fleet No. 85223 (Trolley-buses Division, trolley-buses, code 223) on "National Workers' Pioneer Bus Line" Line 103 is at Erligou bus stop followed by Fleet No. 85228 of the same line. Erligou is the second last stop before the buses reach their final stop Beijing Zoo Public Transport Hub.
