Out of time Project 365(2) Day 306
On my blog yesterday, I wrote about the people who had bought what they were told were new campervans at a knockdown price only to find that they had actually been scrapped and were not safe for the road.
That story made me think about the watch that Jemma brought me back from Hong Kong.
Buying it was an ordeal in itself: Jemma met up with the vendor who showed her a catalogue of the watches he had for sale. Once she had chosen the ones she wanted, he went away and came back minutes later with them.
They are of course fakes, ostensibly copies of the real thing; this one is a Breitling and cost her the equivalent of ?40 – not cheap!
The first thing I noticed was the one or two rough edges on the bracelet but no worries, It worked and the second hand swept smoothly round Rolex fashion. Leaving aside its fake identity, it looked a smart watch.
The watch is self winding which is good until you take it off your wrist. It will run for a few hours but not overnight so each morning you have to reset it.
If that was the only issue, it would be liveable with. However, what is a pain in the butt is the fact that it now loses an hour each day!
Pamela asked "Can’t you just wear it for its looks?" Noooo – you wear a watch to tell the time and if it doesn’t do that then it is a waste of time (no pun intended).

"An upscale, sophisticated department store targeting Hong Kong's affluent yuppie population, it is the epitome of chic, from its Art Deco Italian furnishings to fashions from the world's top design houses. More than 65% of its merchandise is European, and 25% is from Japan. The Loft department carries well-designed housewares and gifts, while Seed is the place to go for the latest fashions. The supermarket in the basement is stocked with imported goods."
That just means it can send you to the poor house if you're not careful.
Opened in 1990, this was Seibu's first store to be open outside Japan.
