Bob in Awe OK, so I've been a LOT busier than I anticipated this week, mostly due to things going wrong in one way or another (if you're on Facebook, you'll have read about it! LOL) In any event, I am getting ready to drive up to the Lake District and try and get some snow-capped mountain shots. But the weather is pretty gnarly and I'm hoping the roads are clear and so is the weather! In the meantime, meet Bob. He's my new buddy! He keeps and eye on his brother Mac, and he's just as in awe of the shining Apple as I am! ***taken with my iPhone, so pardon the quality!*** she's a devil in disguise 10/12/C (ambassador challenge) For the 'ambassador' challenge in 12 months for Dogs we were asked to think what our dogs would be like if they were people. Miss Ashley would be a fun loving, in your face, over the top, young at heart, affable clown. She would also be a greedy, thieving, obsessive compulsive little devil! Every evening, unless she's watched like a hawk, she gets up and cleans the dinner plates. Even now, at nearly twelve she will steal anything from anywhere - drop a piece of fruit, veg or other food in my kitchen and it's gobbled up by her open jaws before it hits the floor! Preliminary iOS game mock From a sketch I had a few weeks back decided to invest a little time and mock up the idea on Photoshop. The objective of the game is simple -get the ball into the basket on the right. Challenge - physics based behavior on ball which bounces and velocity is driven by gravity. The user moves each platform (slide up or down) to guide the ball to the basket - the basket is moving as well at different speeds, this is where the majority of the challenge stems from. If the user is unsuccessful the ball falls out of view and loses turn. 3 loses and game is over. Multi levels in game. A Different Angle (An Erotic Student Teacher Short) Tomboy mechanic Cat has fixed up a classic 1978 Chevy Nova in the school shop, but unless she passes her classes to get into a prestigious college, her stepfather, Ted, won’t let her drive it. Unfortunately, math is not Cat’s subject, but while her stepfather hopes David, the older, British tutor he finds for her, will help her find a way to navigate geometry, Cat finds herself wishing he would teach her something much more interesting. ---------------- Note: This story originally appeared in the anthology Coming Together V3 Warning: This title contains erotic situations, graphic language, sex, and anal sex as well as a relationship between a teen student and her older British professor that is guaranteed to get your knickers in a twist! ---------------- EXCERPT: "Cat, you can tell me off the top of your head just exactly what Pythagorean's Theorem is, word for word, can't you?" David looked at her curiously. She managed to reach the tip of one of her dark brown curls to her mouth and sucked on it, concentrating hard on not looking at him. She just shrugged. "Well, tell me then." "The sides of a right triangle are related by the equation a squared plus b squared equals c squared, where a and b represent the lengths of the legs and c is the length of the hypotenuse," she muttered, turning her right shoulder toward the opposite wall, away from him. "Right." David shook his head, thoughtful. "I don't understand… you're so smart…" "Well obviously I'm an idiot when it comes to geometry, ok?" Cat stood up fast, the chair clattering over behind her. "Just put a dunce cap on me and put me in a corner, all right? There is no point to any of this! I'm done with geometry! I'm done with Pythagorean's Theorem…and I am most especially done with you, David Slater!" She kicked the chair as she passed it, heading for the front door—no books, no coat—tears making the world fill with sudden prisms. David caught her arm, and she tried to jerk away, but he was too strong. She stood there, head down, tears falling onto the hardwood floor between them. David saw them, and tilted her chin up. When she met his eyes, his quiet, watchful eyes, she simply burst into tears. "Catherine, Catherine…" He folded her into his arms and held her, rocking with her. "Beautiful Catherine…you are so bright, please don't ever believe I don't think the world of you." He murmured into her hair, words and more words—brilliant, lovely, smart, delightful, wise and wonderful. She found herself holding onto him, wrapping her arms around his waist, resting her cheek against the buttons of his shirt. The more he whispered, the harder she cried. He finally eased them both down to the floor of the foyer, leaning against the door while she attempted to curl her long limbs into a small enough shape so she could fit into his lap. She found her forehead pressed against the side of his neck, her fingers hesitantly rubbing at his collar, grazing the skin at the hollow of his throat. His rocking slowly subsided with her tears. She sniffed as quietly as she could. She was afraid to move. She thought if she could match her breath, even her heartbeat with his, he might forget she wasn't a part of him, that they shouldn't be tangled here in a heap on the floor together, that this was the way it should be. And then his hand crept to her hair. At first she thought he was just brushing the unruly mess out of his face to keep it from tickling him, but slowly, as the sensation of being petted tingled from her scalp down her spine, she realized he was doing it intentionally. She very bravely lifted her head to meet his eyes. She didn't want it to stop—didn't want to break whatever spell they were under—but she needed to see him. It was all there, in the way his lips were slightly parted, they way his eyes moved over her face. She held her breath and leaned into him and did it quickly, without thinking, just letting her body lead her. His mouth was soft and he tasted like oranges... For the third year, a group of 20 students -- led by professors Robert Radin and Pete Wilson -- were selected to meet with the Berkshire Hathaway chairman and CEO at his Omaha, Neb. headquarters. Buffett treats his student guests to a two-hour talk about investing, business and life, takes them to lunch at one of his favorite local steakhouses and arranges a tour at one of Berkshire Hathaway's locally-based companies. Red Letter. Okay, a few confessions for this one.... Yes, I did use Picnik. I'm a terrible person, people from Tumblr, crucify me, I'm one of /those/ people. All I used it for was the collage bit, because I don't know how to do it with our program. I didn't edit anything with the picture. I make a point to keep my pictures raw. I did, however, try and use their "blemish eraser", because my blackheads are TERRIBLY noticeable. But, obviously, it didn't work. :/ I'm other news, I invested in redredred lipstick. :D I've decided to start wearing it yayyyy. Also, I was practically frozen during this cause DAYUM was it cold outside. A butcher shop in Chinatown, S.F. News Letter, December 1896 I've just learned that the photo was originally taken by noted San Francisco photographer Isaiah West Taber, circa 1880's. Much of his work was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake. Greater Manchester Pension Fund The logo of the Greater Manchester Pension Fund (GMPF), as it appears on the entrance to the Concord Suite in Droylsden, Greater Manchester, England. GMPF is a pension fund authority that administers the Local Government Pension Scheme for local government employees and civil servants in the ten disricts of Greater Manchester, as well as maintaining its own fund, finances and investments. Formerly a body under the Greater Manchester County Council, and now (since 1986) operated by Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council on behalf of Greater Manchester, GMPF is a living example of how the Greater Manchester City Region functions across district boundaries as a homogenous metropolitan region within North West England. Apologies for the poor quality - maybe somebody out there can take a better one!? Oh, and reflected in the image are construction workers assisting with the installation of the East Manchester Metrolink line. National Pensions Reserve No clutter and utter clairty has been allowed to reign as the primary design decision here. The typography is clear, and the title is readable if reduced to a thumbnail on your website. The design treatment has eschewed the standard deep blue color as a “banking / money” primary color decision, because a pension fund that has been incepted as a solution to a real and significant future problem is not about traditional banking/investment business. Private railways: old wrecks old tracks? Taunusbahn ttrainset, Betzdorf 01.08.2009.. Private railways. the keyword of the nineties. I will not write to much about , cause I am specialized on this subject, especially on the long term effects. COMPLEX SYSTEM NOT A BUNCH OF BUSINESS UNITS. With the financial crisis the reality came back. Railways are a complex system of lines connecting via knots several networks and lines in those networks. ehmm. Well Privatisation does set one single track as busines unit and ignore the complex network. OLD WRECKS RUNS CHEAP What can be a scneario to run a track with not many travellers? run cheap. Buy old wrecks, prefered for zero; do as less as you want on the tracks and run cheap. A realistic scenario; as this way in America the railway system declined seriously in the 50's; the rise and come of the airplaine was a reason but not the reason; as in Japan and Europe is proven with the high speed network. Well what we see here at the picture is a company what will introduce the American way in Germany. VT628 BEAUTIFUL EARLY 70'S DESIGN I understand the VT628 is a beautiful sample of early 70's design The trainset is however 35 years old. This can not be taken serious. Especially as many other private railways have succes with investments in modern material. Even in Betzdorf, where the 3-landernbahn runs with very modern LINT trains over the track from Siegen to Au(Sieg). WHERE IS THE LINT/FLIRT/PROTOS AND SO ON? Even as short term solution the explotation of an old wreck is not wise. The thought can be "but a modern LINT/FLIRT/PROTOS/STAdler/Whateverwill come soon and we need a replacement. Dont !!!!! Every day is terrible for the business on middle and long terms. Heavy users, the customers you need to service, will complain each day about comfort, noise or other typical not likely things from a wreck. It is better no to ride as use an old wreck. And honestly it cost some more as zero euro, but this decade it was possible to hire or buy such engines in time. VIEW OF FUTURE This is a sample where privatisation make things worse. As this kind of business is the most cheapest and therefore the most profitable, this is also the future over 10-20 years on many rural tracks. After America in the fifties, this future can also be recognized easily in England. As many old crap is rushng over the tracks. The railways are 100% private now. The most modern train seems to be the High Speed Train of 1975 and investments are not done. This decade the number of traincrashes increased hughly in england. According to reports due to too old trains and too less maintenance on safety. In some cases there was simply no safety maintenance. Of course all in combination with lack of control, cause the private market dont need to was the idea.
