Timber roof of the Church of the Nativity
Since the pre-Crusader times it has been of cedar wood with the rafters exposed. The present ceiling is from the 14th century, and it was restored in 1842.
If pilgrims worshipping in the Church of the Nativity look up at the roof, they will see a battlefield threatening the future of one of Christendom's most holy sites.
Squabbling over crucial roof repairs between the three Christian communities who share custodianship of Jesus's birthplace is endangering the 1,500-year-old basilica.
Large holes in the 500-year-old lead roof have let rainwater flood inside for years. It streams down the walls and threatens to wash away Crusader-era murals and destroy Byzantine mosaics.
A botched repair by the Greeks, in which the roof was given a waterproof lining, has created new problems as condensation now eats into the plaster and rots wooden beams.
The most authoritative survey for decades found that the wood was so badly damaged that a large truss was only being prevented from crashing to the floor by friction.
But while the three communities accept that repairs are needed, mutual suspicion means they cannot agree on how to carry them out.
The impasse means that each year the winter rains destroy more of the church's once magnificent interior.
The Bad
Turns out that the cedar cladding shingles on the sides of the dormer were never flashed properly and were therefore rotted beyond repair. As a result we not only have to buy expensive shingles to replace them but they'll be difficult to make match the rest of the house's shingles (which have been aging for almost 100 years and have had some sort of mystery preservative/treatment applied).

Porsche Museum
The Museum Workshop and the Porsche Archives
Despite their excellent condition, the historical cars featured in Porsche’s “museum on wheels”
obviously require regular care and maintenance in order to enter all kinds of competitions
and events at any time. Precisely this is why specialists in the Museum Workshop prepare all
historical racing and sports cars for their worldwide activities, conducting regular maintenance
and carrying out repairs where required.
The same specialists are also at the disposal of private customers for the restoration of
their classic Porsches, These include all road cars whose series production ended at least
ten years ago, that is the 356, 914, 959 and 911 including the 964 model series, as well
as water-cooled four- and eight-cylinder models.
These highly skilled specialists and mechanics do their wonderful job in public, instead of
hiding behind closed doors: This is the world’s only Museum Workshop where the visitor is
able to directly observe the work in progress, a glass partition in the lobby of the Museum
offering a clear view of the Workshop.
Pooled skills: the Museum Workshop Team
The Workshop Team is made up of one master mechanic, three mechanics, an upholsterer
and a customer advisor. Naturally they all have lots of experience with Porsche cars of all
model years both in series production and motorsport. After all, it is also their job to correctly
tune and set up the sensitive high-performance power units in classic racing cars such as
the twelve-cylinder turbocharged engine of a Porsche 917.
To do this job with utmost perfection, the specialists benefit from the most advanced tooling
and equipment with two car hoists, lathes and milling machines enabling them to carry out
virtually all service, repair and restoration processes. And if necessary they are able to rebuild
even simple mechanical components.
Minor body repairs are also handled here, while the Workshop Team has full access to Porsche’s
entire infrastructure for all ongoing work and requirements.
New Porsche Museum • The Museum Workshop and the Porsche Archives 15
Porsche’s memory: the Historical Archives
The new Porsche Museum also houses a Central Department offering all the historical and
contemporary knowledge about Porsche. Indeed, it was only logical for the Historical Archives
of Porsche AG to move into the Museum, directly above the Museum Workshop.
Acting as the “memory” of the Porsche Group, the Porsche Archives collect all important
information relating in commercial, technical, social or cultural terms to Porsche AG and its
subsidiaries. The Archives maintain all knowledge, facts and figures of significance through -
out the unique story of Porsche’s success, ranging from the early days of Ferdinand Porsche
as an automotive engineer through the Construction Office established in 1931 all the way
to Porsche AG as the Company exists today.
The Porsche Archives now extend along a total distance of approximately 2,000 metres or
almost 6,600 feet, spread out on shelves, displays, steel cabinets and even vaults.

I decided to leave the outer skin intact and cut away the inner skin using a die grinder cut-off blade attached to my corded drill. I made a mistake here by cutting where the seat met the hull because this way I cut off the tab from the seat tank that attached it to the transom. If I could do it again, I would cut around the tab.

PLASTIC TUB REPAIR : PLASTIC TUB

Upstairs Bath
This room was a bedroom and we suspect it may have originally been a nursery prior to the "renovation" in the 1980s which turned it into the master bath complete with plastic tub/shower unit and cultured marble vanity. To prevent lowering the ceiling in the room below, sections of the floor step up into the bath and WC areas. It's interesting, but we don't care for the function of it and there's a lot of wasted space. Unlike homes of today, we don't feel it necessary to have all this wasted space. Our future plans are to drop the ceiling in the room below a few inches to accommodate the plumbing and divide the bath into two functional baths -one to service the master suite, and one to service the other 2 bedrooms on this end of the house. There was a second bath on this floor, but it was in need of repair and squaring up, so we gutted it and will be turning it back into a bedroom, thus the need for a second bath upstairs. Our plan is to move the clawfoot tub from the downstairs master bath to the upstairs master bath. Seems to make better sense and be more functional than for the spaces available. Besides, a more period bath for the master bedroom seems appropriate.
A cautionary tail
Sears has a horrible business ethic! We have been waiting for two weeks for our washer to be repaired; two weeks of dirty clothes mounting… which is now a mountainous rotting pile. I called again today for our next appointment... after already paying a man 65 to come out and tell us what we already knew was wrong… and informed us it would be 250 more and another week and a half wait to get it fixed... OMG! So, I washed things by hand in a big plastic tub, courtesy my childrens' toy tub. I used boiling water, washing powder, bleach and broom’s handle to stir the soiled clothes. Rinsed them and rung them out all by hand. Let’s just say it was not easy! But I must say I feel kinda proud of my work... I did it all without a machine to help me... is that weird...lol! Screw Sears and there “great service”

living room
Slightly difficult shooting this room without a wide angle lens.
The huge space in the corner is where my massive TV lives, but it's still at the repairs center until tomorrow. Then my small TV can be relocated to my bedroom again.
I'll be redoing this tomorrow, when there's sun. But I really do love this room, it's about 90% finished; only the EXPEDIT bookshelf from IKEA needed to finish it off.
Computer Repair & Salvage
finally gave up on the stupid arse water cooled fan that came with this really shoddy fujitsu media center. Never again will I buy a product from them. I salvaged what I could (memory, TV card, AGP card) and built another one in an old tower case I had. It functions MUCH better now

Winter gateway
The village of Bradwell lies mid way between Braintree and Coggeshall, close to the river Blackwater and the Roman Road of Stanes Street linking Colchester with St. Albans.
About 1000 years ago the Norman French arrived, built the Church and imposed the Manorial system. The Manor of Bradwell, its name comes from a copious spring or broad well that could drive an overshot mill before its waters reached the river Blackwater, was centred around the church. The old Manor House built close to Bradwell Hall Farmhouse was burnt down in 1879. Park House became the Manorial residence after that date.
The earliest recorded Lords of the Manor were the Hande family passing the Manor onto the Bassets (1394), the Bonhams the Maxeys (16th and 17th centuries). The church has many fine monuments to this old Essex family.
The church (Holy Trinity) was thought to have been built for pilgrims on their way to Coggeshall Abbey and later adapted by the Manor for its use. The chancel was rebuilt in 1340 and the porch added in the 14th century. During the Civil War the church suffered some damage from Cromwell's men - the Maxeys were staunch royalists. The rood loft has disappeared but the medieval wall paintings can still be seen, as can the sturdy posts that supported a turret at the time of the Armada. In 1848 Bradwell was described as a much-scattered village and being joined to the Hamlet of Blackwater by a wooden bridge. The Manor was the largest landowner with 550 acres, Glazenwood was owned by Sir J.P Wood, the 52 acres were planted out by S. Curtis as a nursery, orchard and pleasure grounds. The Rectory, built a mile away from the church was valued in 1831 at ?260 and had 30 acres of glebe land. Common land was rented out and the money given to the poor not on parish relief. There were 4 shops, 3 public houses, 2 mills, 1 wheelwright and a blacksmith. By 1890 the village school and a number of cottages were built.
At the end of the 20th century there was 1 public house, 2 car repair businesses, and 1 petrol station. Many of the old tithe cottages have been demolished or sold off. Many farm and garden plots have been bought for building since the 1920s. The largest landowner is the Speakmans who farm at Perry Green. The Lord of the manor is no longer resident in Bradwell. The manor is managed by Strutt and Parker. The village school closed in the 1950s. and local children go elsewhere. Few homes depend on well water, some still have their own drainage systems. Few people work on the land but many commute to jobs outside Bradwell. During the 1930s there were two working pits and one quarry in existence. The village hall was built out of bricks from the Bridge Hall quarry. Bradwell and Rectory Farm pits supplied sands and gravels for the many World War 2 airbases built in Essex. Now only Bradwell pit remains open. Glazenwood was rescued from dereliction in the 1960's and completely refurbished by the present owner.
The 1991 census states that the population of Bradwell (Blackwater) is 486 persons. In 1849 296 souls were living in Bradwell. (There is no information about the souls of the Hamlet of Blackwater.) The 21st century is upon us and the next 1000 years of history waiting to be
OVERSTRAND CAR PARK, HONEYCOMBE CHINE AND BOSCOMBE PIER. BOURNEMOUTH. DORSET. JUNE 1973
The section of the Overstrand car park seen here is located within Honeycombe Chine and is where the Honeycombe Beach development was built between 2006 and 2010.
The word chine is used locally to describe a number of ravines and valleys that run inland from the cliffs along our part of the coast, although Honeycombe Chine appears as a hollow in the cliffs rather than a ravine.
Before my time, Honeycombe Chine was used as a boating lake before being filled in and used as a car park.
Bournemouth Council sold the car park to a private developer as part of a major regeneration project for the Boscombe Pier area. Between 2006 and 2010 a large complex of apartment blocks called Honeycombe Beach was built and Boscombe Pier and the Pier Approach area was remodelled,
Europe's first artificial surf reef was constructed about a hundred yards off shore, just east of the pier, a project that has not been without it's problems. Made up of of a number of large sand bags lying on the sea bed, they are designed to ramp up the waves riding over the top of it, giving improved surfing conditions.
The reef has been the subject of fierce criticism almost from the word go, and the fact that it hasn't performed as well as might be expected has done little to quieten the dissenters. At the time of writing the reef has been closed as some of the bags are damaged and have been removed for repair. The reef is also due to undergo modifications in order to improve it's wave making capabilities. If you need to know all the ins and outs, Mr Google will no doubt enlighten you.
The building on the right still exists, and much of it was converted into fancy, high end beach huts called Surf Pods that cost a small fortune and haven't been selling as well as the Council would like.
