nice swatch, beeyatch!
the shirt was ugly but what can i say, it was the least sweaty thing i owned and it was 100 degrees out with no a/c in austin.
it is 1986 here. i am 17.
note long dangly earrings (considered the mark of whoredom in my high school) and the SWATCH. before swatchitude hit, I had a big men's casio digital watch that i much preferred... and i still lust for a calculator watch as that is what i really wanted at the time.
My Bag [June 23, 2008]
Classes were suspended here in Metro Manila today because of the typhoon Frank... I got bored and I was too lazy to do my thesis.. so I decided to take a photo of the purse I was supposed to bring to the university today. :)
This is my 1st ever Michael Kors bag & I bought it with MY OWN money!! YAY for me!! I got it last Christmas when I was having my vacation in the US.

American Gage & Machine Co.
This old factory spreads over 6 acres in Elgin Illinois. It has been a big part of Elgin's History. It was Elgin's 2nd biggest employer. It was the old watch case factory at 853 Dundee Ave. Only the Elgin Clock company had more employers.
Construction of the complex began in 1890 when Illinois Watch Case Co. began making expensive metal cases for even more expensive pocket watches.
The “case factory” became a major contributor to the war effort during World War II, making items such as mortar shells. As fashions in timekeeping changed between the 1930s and the 1950s, a division of the case company named Elgin American Inc. began to dominate the business, manufacturing women’s makeup compacts, upscale metal cigarette cases and even Elgin-brand bicycles.
This building has a soon date for demolition.

Tour de California
Today was the opening stage of the Tour of California, which traveled near where we live... Tallulah and I drove out to a spot on the backroads to watch them roll by... After much waiting and lots of anticipation and dozens of cop cars and official vehicles and a helicopter the peleton finally arrived... ZOOOMMM! ...and then it was all over... One of the Garmin riders threw his waterbottle to Tallulah, and when we reviewed the photos I took we could just make out Lance riding protected in the front of the pack.
This shot of Tallulah was much more interesting than any of the shots I got of the riders.

Happy Halloween
Ich wish everybody a Happy Halloween, may you enjoy your day and parties....... ------------
Halloween (or Hallowe'en), a contraction of All-Hallows-Even ("evening"), is an annual holiday observed on October 31, which commonly includes activities such as trick-or-treating, attending costume parties, carving jack-o'-lanterns, bonfires, apple bobbing, visiting haunted attractions, playing pranks, telling scary stories, and watching horror films.Historian Nicholas Rogers, exploring the origins of Halloween, notes that while "some folklorists have detected its origins in the Roman feast of Pomona, the goddess of fruits and seeds, or in the festival of the dead called Parentalia, it is more typically linked to the Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-an or sow-in)", derived from the Old Irish Samuin meaning "summer's end".[1] Samhain was the first and by far the most important of the four quarter days in the medieval Irish calendar[2][3] and, falling on the last day of Autumn, it was a time for stock-taking and preparation for the cold winter months ahead.[1] There was also a sense that this was the time of year when the physical and supernatural worlds were closest and magical things could happen.[2][3] To ward off these spirits, the Irish built huge, symbolically regenerative bonfires and invoked the help of the gods through animal and perhaps even human sacrifice.[1]
Snap-Apple Night (1832) by Daniel Maclise.
Depicts apple bobbing and divination games at a Halloween party in Blarney, Ireland.
Halloween is also thought to have been heavily influenced by the Christian holy days of All Saints' Day (also known as Hallowmas, All Hallows, Hallowtide) and All Souls' Day.[4] Falling on November 1st and 2nd respectively, collectively they were a time for honoring the Saints and praying for the recently departed who had yet to reach heaven. By the end of the 12th century they had become days of holy obligation across Europe and involved such traditions as ringing bells for the souls in purgatory and "souling", the custom of baking bread or soul cakes for "all crysten [christened] souls".[5]
In Britain the rituals of Hallowtide and Halloween came under attack during the Reformation as protestants denounced purgatory as a "popish" doctrine incompatible with the notion of predestination.[4] In addition the increasing popularity of Guy Fawkes Night from 1605 on saw Halloween become eclipsed in Britain with the notable exception of Scotland.[6] Here, and in Ireland, they had been celebrating Samhain and Halloween since the early Middle Ages,[7] and it is believed the Kirk took a more pragmatic approach towards Halloween, viewing it as important to the life cycle and rites of passage of local communities and thus ensuring its survival in the country.[6]
North American almanacs of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century give no indication that Halloween was recognized as a holiday.[8] The Puritans of New England, for example, maintained strong opposition to the holiday[8] and it was not until the mass Irish and Scottish immigration during the 19th century that the holiday was introduced to the continent in earnest.[8] Initially confined to the immigrant communities during the mid-nineteenth century, it was gradually assimilated into mainstream society and by the first decade of the twentieth century it was being celebrated coast to coast by people of all social, racial and religious backgrounds.[9]
Trick-or-treating is a customary celebration for children on Halloween. Children go in costume from house to house, asking for treats such as candy or sometimes money, with the question, "Trick or treat?" The word "trick" refers to a (mostly idle) "threat" to perform mischief on the homeowners or their property if no treat is given. In some parts of Scotland children still go guising. In this custom the child performs some sort of trick, i.e. sings a song or tells a ghost story, to earn their treats.
The practice of dressing up in costumes and begging door to door for treats on holidays dates back to the Middle Ages and includes Christmas wassailing. Trick-or-treating resembles the late medieval practice of souling, when poor folk would go door to door on Hallowmas (November 1), receiving food in return for prayers for the dead on All Souls' Day (November 2). It originated in Ireland and Britain,[5] although similar practices for the souls of the dead were found as far south as Italy.[19] Shakespeare mentions the practice in his comedy The Two Gentlemen of Verona (1593), when Speed accuses his master of "puling [whimpering or whining] like a beggar at Hallowmas."[20]
In Scotland and Ireland, Guising – children disguised in costume going from door to door for food or coins – is a traditional Halloween custom, and is recorded in Scotland at Halloween in 1895 where masqueraders in disguise carrying lante
2009 French Film Festival
I went to Shangri-la Plaza this afternoon to buy some stuff. I noticed that the 2009 French Film Festival has opened. This year, it will include some Cannes contenders. Although not yet confirmed, but the three filipino movies, Kinatay (Brillante Mendoza, 2009), Independencia (Raya Martin, 2009) and Maynila (Raya Martin and Adolfo Alix Jr., 2009) are tentatively scheduled for Independence Day. Mendoza won the 2009 Cannes Festical for best Director. Aside from these three, I also would like to watch the following movies:
HOME (Yann Arthus-Bertrand, 2009), a documentary that brings unique footage from over fifty countries, all seen from the air. It lays a foundation stone for the edifice that, together, we must rebuild. HOME has been conceived to take a message of mobilization out to every human being.
La Pianiste (The Pianist, 2001) The movie follows a piano teacher so obsessed with achieving artistic perfection that she slowly loses touch with her humanity, becoming twisted and perverted, her sexuality spiraling into extreme territory. When her young student falls in love with her, she finds a willing victim for her own perversions. Haneke isn’t what you’d call an optimist, his films often subverting things that we find pleasure in (in this case, music) and showing off their dark side.
17 Fois Cecile Cassard (Seventeen Times Cecile Cassard, Christope Honore, 2002), which tells the story of a woman trying to recover from the death of her husband through seventeen moments in her life.
Van Gogh (Maurice Pialat, 1991) follows the painter through his most torturous days in 1890 as he tries to fight off the madness that would eventually consume him.
Flandres (Flanders, Bruno Dumont, 2006). Shows us the bleak life of a farmer, toiling through everyday, having dispassionate sex with his girlfriend, who’s also cheating on him. He enlists in the army and is sent off to war, where the horrors of battle await him. Dumont’s picture offers no redemption, no real hope; just a staggering grimness that reveals the futility of the human condition.
I hope I can find time to watch these films. Anyway, the Shang Cineplex is just steps away from my place so I just need not be tamad to go down. And one good thing is that admission is free. The festival will run from June 5-14, 2009.

E3 2006: History of Video Games
Hooray! This is what I missed when I didn't go last year. It's interesting, though. I thought I'd see all the same stuff again that I saw in '04, but it was like a whole new lineup. In '04, it was all retro consoles, seemingly every one ever (not quite - no Wonderswan, or Watara Super Vision, but whatever), including all the Ataris, Segas, Nintendos, Commodores, Spectrums, etc.
They even had the Brown Box (Ralph Baer, the father of the home console's first ever prototype video game that played a pong-like game, wherin you could also move the paddle toward and away from the net, and something like a decade before Pong! I've been reading his sad autobiography, which tells of how Atari stole all of his inventions away through better marketing, and the proof is in the many USPTO patent registrations still on record). I also got to see the Fairchild Channel F - the first cartridge-based home console. You could play them all, which ruled. Too, there were glass cases full of little handhelds, including many Game & Watches. Unlike the consoles, these were all off-limits.
This year it was made of about 4 rows of retro arcade cabinets (seen above) set to free play, and tables of all kinds of little desktop and handheld digital games, like Zaxxon, Q*Bert, that little red LED football game everyone had in the 80s, and tons more I'd never heard of. There were only a few of the retro home consoles of '04 on display. I guess it's sort of a revolving exhibit.
Watching you...
That's a good question, why am I standing out here alone
I guess I don't know enough to come in from the rain
I was watching your window from here below
I think I just might stay here all day
Cause I gotta do something
If I can't love you, I don't want to love you
If I can't hold you, I don't want to be thinking of you
And if you don't want me, I don't want to want you
And if you won't see me, I don't know what to do
But oh, I keep watching you until I see right through
Oh I keep watching you
You could throw me down a cigarette, I smoked my last one quite a while ago
No, I gave it to the man that swore he had no need
You know sometimes if I listen real close I can hear the dark side of the moon
And there's always yesterday's Times if I care to read
And I gotta do something
If I can't love you.... etc.
Sure I'm alright, no I'm not very cold
Every now and then I can feel the subway heat
So go on inside, I'll leave you alone
Anyway Bogart's on in the window down the street
And I gotta do something
If I can't love you.... etc.
'Watching you' - Melissa Etheridge
I've been brooding on this one for a while. And when I woke up this morning the pieces of the puzzle just all fell together in the exact way that I wanted them to do.

Remember in those pre-teen mags like BOP and shit they'd have the addresses of celebs you could send fanmail to. Well my sister and I were supa into 90210 so we sent some to our favs. I got this "autographed" pic of the always awesome Shannen Doherty. I think I also got one from Brian Austin Green, but can't remember and if so it got lost a long time ago. My sister got one from Tori Spelling. For reasons no one knows Donna lame-ass Martin was, and still is, her favorite. I suffered through the new 90210 the other night just to see my Brenda. I hope she fucks Kelly's world up just when she least expects it. I smell a romance comin on between Kelly and the creeper teacher dude.

This is so dark I though about sending it off to wherever pixels go to die. I made it sitting on a packed train commuting home at 7:00 p.m., sitting across from a couple who should really have stayed in bed - they needed much more privacy than the train offered.
What caught my interest though were the reactions of all the other captive witnesses to their performance. Looks of frank interest, studied indifference, open lust, and jealousy were the most common expressions, but one fellow had a predatory look that was disturbing. These expressions got me thinking about watching; that predatory look got me thinking about the unhealthy side of watching.
As I thought about it more, it occurred to me that women are quite often subjected to this kind of abuse in their daily lives and I got wondering about the emotions surrounding the different sides of stalking or unhealthy watching.
I had my computer and a bunch of photos on the hard drive and one thing led to another…
Good things come in small packages...

Day 060/365 - Free Pancakes!
You know what's great about being unemployed? Lots and lots of free time! The downside of being unemployed is that you have no money. So when the stars align just right, and IHOP is giving away free pancakes, you think "Great! Free food!" - and then you have to line up like it's Soviet Russia in the seventies, waiting for the toilet paper and bread.
And not only is the meal free (a huge plus), but standing in line for hours gives The Unemployed something to do, even if it's just standing in line for free food. I mean one can only lay about the house for so long watching Oprah and People's Court for so long. So standing in line for food is good. Next time I might even eat for free and then shamelessly get back in line for another helping!
Shirt and stuff
A shirt celebrating Space Battleship Yamato! My mom will understand why I had to get this one. I watched Star Blazers religiously when I was about 10, and I can still sing the theme song clean from memory.
A Hatsune Miku mug. Yeah, who's the baddest fanboy in da house? For those of you who don't know, this is extra-cool because I've been collecting mugs for years. So a Miku mug is double-plus good for me.
A cute ceramic teapot. A sootball pin (from Spirited Away). And two free desserts-on-spoons, which I find weirdly entertaining. Some day I may have the full set! Ah, the urge to collect can be scary.

Hijab-ban protest in Quebec
This is a letter I wrote in response to an article in the National Post:
msoupcoff@nationalpost.com
Dear Editor,
I wish you would read this, even more that you would take the time to investigate the story I am going to give you, so that I could continue to tell women from other countries that Western-born Canadian women are indeed free. You would justify my faith in my citizenship.
I learned of Aqsa Parvez’s brutal, unjustified, and barbaric murder from the pages of the Post. No faith can justify murder without a trial (even if it is justified by the law---and even under Islamic Law only if Miss Parvez had been married and committed adultery could she and her lover have been punished at all---and that, in brief, not without a trial).
Such law cannot exist in Canada, as Muslims are a minority, and Islamic law can only be applied to Muslims. Aqsa Parvez’s killers are murderers and should be condemned as such. They are monsters. Aqsa Parvez deserves to hear a public outcry against their actions (whether they are adhering to the tribal customs of another country or not!). She does not deserve to have her life’s ending and its tragedy overshadowed by the controversial issue represented by a piece of cloth called “hijab” if we are to affect true change. If the writer does not want a two-tier system between Western and immigrant women in Canada the writer cannot make an issue out of hijab in the same breath, giving her killers a motive. Their actions were wrong whatever motivated them. In fact, they had no motive. There is not a word in the Qu’ran or Canadian law that allows murder for not adhering to a dress code. The girl deserves more than that after a tragic struggle for freedom. She deserves her murderers to be brought to justice, and that people be educated about what freedom really is. It is not a piece of cloth, but the right to choose it or the right to disregard it. Bring her killers to justice, then come learn about hijab and Islam so you can educate others of it.
I would like to call out the writer of “How Canada Let Aqsa Down” when they wrote [“you’ll never hear a feminist murmur a word of complaint about these girls’ lack of autonomy.”] I was just peacefully walking down the street the other day and this woman figured she had the right to judge me and called out: “Live you life!” I said, “Excuse me?” She said, “I hoped you’d say that.”
I wear hijab. I hope that doesn’t discredit everything I am going to say. Your writer said ["The hijab marks those wearing it as chattel, leashed to their men as surely as if they were wearing a dog collar"] so maybe my words don't count, maybe I am "a non-person" who owns nothing of herself and is fully absorbed by "her men". This is a stereo-type a Muslim woman will have to deal with every day if she decides to wear a head-scarf. Why do I do it? Sometimes I wonder. Well, Western men assume I am treated as a non-person by Arab/Muslim men all my life, and so, always go out of their way to hold doors open for me, and bus drivers always wait even if I have to run all the way down the street. That wouldn't be a good reason for a Muslim woman trying to be modest would it??? And women think that I am too timid to respond to their stereo-types and actually answer their questions (because, as a Western woman herself not born Muslim, I know there’s a lot Western women don’t know about Muslims) so maybe I like the shock value??? “Why are you bringing your backwardness to Canada?” Some women come up to me and my friends. “I’m from Canada,” I say and watch them draw a blank. “I’m more Canadian than you-” would quip my friend to these women with a sly smile from underneath the folds of her hijab (with dark eyes, colouring and exotic beauty she looks unequivocally Arab while my blue eyes and paleness always give me away for the Norman-Anglophile I am even under my own pink hijab- “I’m Metis.” She then giggles her ridiculous sweet laugh. “My ancestors were here long before yours.” My best friend Amanda is often with me. She wears jean mini shorts and a white tank top, with her own blonde hair running free in a pony-tail. She adores the latest styles of me and Um Abdullah’s black abayas, even though she would never wear one herself. I ask her if she ever feels uncomfortable being with me, because people stare so much. She replies that she was afraid when I first started wearing hijab, that my new Muslim friends would think she was a slut for wearing tank tops. We smile, because we know women and men are the same everywhere. People are always afraid of what they don’t know. It is the job of the media to educate and relieve fear by information, not to spread the stereo-types that injure another citizen’s chances of employment, public safety, and education.
I love my best friend Amanda. After 9/11 I decided to wear hijab. She supported me by walking down the streets of our small town of Sooke, B.C (where weeks before I had had my scarf torn off, be
NEO Rockin' Girl Licca
NEO Licca is taller than normal Licca, has the headmold of 1st generation Licca from the 60's and is basically Licca in teenager form. Her height is 24 cm / 9.5''. The production of NEOs isn't as vast as that of normal Licca we're familiar with. It's like a special series. Takara introduced it in 2000 - 2001.
They're sporting diverse looks and some even have tan skin, or like in case of Black Licca, black skin. If you're into the simpler eye design, they're a nice, cheaper alternative to vintage 1st gen Liccas.
This is a mix & match outfit, love the contrast between the colorful tunic and the background.

brown is the color of my life (my beard comes in sorta red)
i got a new lens today (2/28/06). a Nikkor 50mm F/1.8 AF. i've been waiting to get a new lens since my last one broke, and i decided that i wanted a camera with some DoF that i could work with, and i decided on this one. i looks like i wont be zooming for a while (unless i use my grandpa's lens, which isn't bad... check out the previous picture in my photostream for an example of that lens). i can't wait until i can afford the 18-200mm nikon lens. it's a beast.
anyways... about this shot - i thought it's about time i took one of these pictures... you know, with the camera up to my face as if composing a picture.
normally, my face is more scrunched up like this, but i didn't think that looked very becoming on me so i flattened things out a bit. ... i guess this shot is just a little bit posed then.
wow... i've been looking at this photo all day, and i can't believe the sharpness in compairison to the rest of my pictures. i hope i'm only starting to scratch the surface of this lens' capabilities

sorry the EXIF data is not appearing. must be a photoshop transition thing.
here's what i remember:
Camera: Nikon D50
Exposure: 0.5 sec (1/30)
Aperture: f/3.3
Daddy's Watches
I tried on my dad's watch with black straps and decided that I'd wear it one day. Everyday since then, he would ask me if I'd wear it today. Haha, I finally did and found another one with brown straps. Had it cleaned (it's self-winding!) and had the glass replaced (it was cracked) for P600. I think it was well worth it.
