Something that you may not know about me is that I love Gilmore Girls. I feel that their lives are practically perfect. I always wanted a daughter, which I guess was not meant to be (Don't get me wrong..I love my sons and would not trade them for all of the world), so that we could have the kind of close Mother/Daughter relationship that the Lorelai and Rory have. I am almost finished watching season 4, only one more episode to go. This makes me sad, because I am not sure when I will be able to get season 5 and also because I believe there are only 7 seasons all together. :( I have cried with these girls and laughed with these girls through watching this. It is almost as if they are my old friends. Anyway, I ♥ this show and think that those who created it and acted in it all have created a masterpiece that has touched my life. :)

I had no intention of posting this list online but my original plan of getting a group picture of everyone at work was a bust because my coworkers weren't being very cooperative. Plus it didn't help that we were busy with orders and having an audit by head office at the same time.

MISS TROUBLE HAS moved to Stockholm. Or perhaps she hasn't. When it
comes to Miss Mess, Maggachacka, Mango Chutney, Marga, or, as sheprefers to be called, Malga Kubiak, its difficult to know what she means by home.
A fabulously romantic woman who doesn't know if she's still a girl, and if she has the right to be. Of all people I've met, no one has attempted to act the part of the total Artist quite like her. Despite the fact that she is a quite nice person, very few have succeeded to such an extent in being provocative. This is not due to more profound strategies. Provocation seems to be innate to her, and its purpose is by no means exclusively to epater les bourgeois. In practice, though, this is what happens. Her victims are not just the pilots of leather
armchair etiquette, or the suburban couch potatoes, but also colleagues, gallerists, journalists, officials, chauvinists, feminists, old friends, premeditating men and prejudiced women; all of them encounter her very
apparition as an offense to the inner calm they've spent a lifetime attaining.
The irony here is striking. The spirit of the times is divided between a longing for the good old days of public projects and an extremely individualistic artistic ethic. In the case of Malga, her means of
expression are pathetic beyond recognition. The simple fact that the word pathetic is generally thought of as negative turns our resistance to her work an auto-ethic anesthesia. By all means - she's not alone in
being a misunderstood artist. Since the ban on absinthe in Paris, very few taken social obstinacy in art to its extremes. Her artistic expression is identical with her own life. She works exclusively with
herself. If other people take part , thye are only background for the superegotism of Miss Mess. This should however be seen as a generous act, as it comes across in her books, films and objects. Problems arise
since we still expect a ritualized interaction in so-called reality. Malga is not the queen of real power. In fact , she's unexpectedly lousy at practical stuff, such as money, layout and aesthetic control. Her art /life/ is maximally charged with sex, drugs, violence, travels, experiences, emotions, and quests. Due to her unfettered techniques of presentation, she retains true pathos. Her passionate abandon creates a secret. What she wants to say is easy to repress, despite the fact that it's much clearer than, for instance, this text.
During the last years, her travels through existence have taken place in the company of a young man, Harry Hoppe, probably the best Swedish poet today. It's hard to tell how you know something like that. I've
never read any of his work. But charismatically speaking this couple seems impeccable.
I'd like to recommend you all to read her latest book Baby Trouble which makes for difficult reading, and is only available on request from the artist. An easier way of becoming acquainted with her work is to see
her latest film , Babe Trouble-Hole, which according to the artist is more of comedy than her earlier films.
It opens at the Zita Theater in Stockholm. What you'll get is a not
entirely non-pornographic reflection on two people loving each other, and some slices of real life as well. If you should happen to bump into them in a bar, I strongly suggest that you buy them drinks. I also
recommend them for the government funding, preferably public art on Riddarholmen. I would like to advice against any kind of violence or trouble-making . And stay aloof from all business involving rock bands, or any other practicalities, if Chaggamacka is in the vicinity.

Hur ska man beskriva dessa filmer? Trots att jag har sett de har filmerna ett antal ganger ar mitt intryck detsamma: ett rasande kaos. Eller som Malga sjalv kanske skulle uttrycka det: "films about love/ sex/ death/ hate/ life" osv. Det kan lata osammanhangande och diffust, men faktum ar att det finns en mycket stark "drive" i dessa videos. detta beror till stor del pa den hetsiga klippningen och den pumpande elektroakustiska musiken av exempelvis Karkowski, kombinerat med Malgas jagade, skrikande diktupplasning. Morbultningseffekten ar stark, sar

"What are Adventures of the Gummi Bears, DuckTales, Chip 'n Dale's Rescue Rangers, TaleSpin, and Darkwing Duck."

Alex: "I'm going to have to check with the judges on this one. Mm, mm-hm. You get the points. Another title you could have included was Goof Troop."

I don't know if Goof Troop is on DVD. If it is, I might pick it up. Likewise Bonkers, if it's on DVD. Nostalgia rocks, until you watch The Super Mario Bros. Super Show or The Legend of Zelda. Also, be sure to enjoy watching DuckTales before reading the comics by Carl Barks (and additionally works by Don Rosa), or suddenly the animated series is disappointing. I still like it, though!

I understand the reason that episodes of Darkwing Duck are so mixed around, but because of the mixing, I'll hold off on watching series two yet. I want to watch something that won't be jumping around between what was aired on one station and what was aired on another station.

I've already watched volume one of both DuckTales and TaleSpin (now there's a nice series!), so I'll hold off on them.

I have two volumes of Rescue Rangers, and one of Gummi Bears.

I remember Gummi Bears the least (almost no memories; just a few), so I'll begin with that! Man, I wish I knew where I had my toy of the little pink one (I think he was my favorite), so I could photograph is for the 365 toy project. I wouldn't be surprised if Gummi Bears, alongside the animated Hobbit movie, and Smurfs (episodes with Johan and Peewee) didn't foster my love of the medieval/fantasy genre in my earlier youth.

Checking/editing/uploading photos will take longer now, but watching something in the background (which requires no reading subtitles) will make it feel more efficient a use of my time =D

Oh, and I just realized looking at the box that this set has one season per DVD -- so, it's all three seasons in one set! You probably can't expect much when it comes to visual quality (without a digital restore process that won't be able to pay for itself in sales), so it's understandable for there to be such a small fit. However, 16 episodes listed as 220 minutes means 13.75 minutes per episode. The episodes aren't 14 minutes long, so this must exclude opening/enndig themes. *Sticks DVD into DVD drive.* All right, I'm loving this theme song!

Update: After watching the first four episodes, the video quality is better than I expected for a 1985 animation. And the stories are fairly decent, too! DuckTales has a level of "dumbed down for children" that isn't here and especially isn't in TaleSpin. I don't remember about Rescue Rangers.

Update 2: At least one episode is 10 minutes (with no opening theme). Maybe they have a 10 minute episode and a 15 minute episode that aired together?

Day 245 - Mad Men

I recently stumbled upon the AMC TV show Mad Men and decided to pick up the first season to watch. It is quite the TV drama and I really am enjoying it so far. It seems like every episode they go through 10 packs of cigarettes and 5 bottles of whiskey. Other than that it is very interesting that they based a show on a group of advertising guru's in New York City. Another thing that I find very odd is that it is currently running it's fourth season and I am just now starting to hear about it...I guess thats what happens when you don't watch a lot of television.

For Christmas, my MIL received seasons 1-3 of "Mad Men". I've been wanting to watch this show for some time now, so I was excited when she let me borrow the first two seasons. I watched two episodes last night, and watched six more today. I think if I didn't have this migraine, I would've finished the rest of the season tonight.

It looks green here, but it is titanium. I have been wanting this watch and have had trouble tracking it down. Even in the shop where I got this (Harvard Square, Church Street), they showed me three other watches and I had to point out to them how it wasn't correct. Finally a watch I can read.

The Hills are Alive

Man. It's been awhile since I've been that sick. 103 temp. Trip to the ER. Almost 10 days being completely out of the online world. And the whole time with the iPad on my lap re-watching Battlestar Galactica.

Happy to report I got through all 76 episodes. And yes, it was awesome yet again.

Anyways, despite being sick, it was a nice break from everything. Cleared my head a bit, stopped thinking about what I'm usually obsessed about(photography) and just laying around, soaking up up some time off. Felt good.

Also feels good to be back posting again. This particular image was shot on July 30th down in Tucson over the Catalina Mountains. My buddy Ken Peterson and I left around 1-2pm and spent the day timelapsing and waiting for the sun to go down so we could shoot some lightning.

Witnessing lightning over these mountains is something to behold. I assume the people living down there are used to it, but the sheer power and frequency was amazing.

Normally to get these many strikes in one shot takes a long exposure, maybe one around 30+ seconds. This was only 10 seconds. That's it. Five strikes. And this is actually cropped a bit, losing another strike that was off camera left.

I'm interested to know how people see the photo, because depending on your monitor calibration, you either clearly see the cactus on the right or it may appear a bit too dark. If you click on the image and check it out with the dark background, it's a bit easier to see.

House of the Blackheads

The original building was erected during the first third of the 14th century for the Brotherhood of Blackheads, a guild for unmarried German merchants in Riga. Major works were done in the years 1580 and 1886, adding most of the ornamentations.

The structure was bombed to a ruin by the Germans June 28, 1941 and the remains demolished by the Soviets in 1948. The current reconstruction was erected from 1995 to 1999.

A 'Bone Of Contention' - Ottawa 03 08

Skeeter keeps an eye out since panhandling is not welcome on the tourist-friendly streets of Ottawa, Canada's capital city. Meanwhile the puppy keeps struggling to be released from Skeeter's jacket. He wants to get closer to that tasty soup bone. Much has been debated around town about Ottawa's street people. I don't know Skeeter's story so who am I to judge? I liked the puppy in Skeeter's jacket.

Two Cockatiels that were part of Animal Planet Television Show

The television show "Animal Planet" recently did a show on people who hoard pets. The subject of their show surrendered to Heartland Humane Society over 100 of the *pets*. He still has many pets he is not willing to surrender at this point. He said most of them were obtained on Craigslist.
My photo is of two of the surrendered cockatiels. The one toward the back is not nearly as dark of a gray as he looks. It is because in order to get them to show up better in the cage I applied a lot of contrast.

Geneva is the great French city of Switzerland. Situated at the west end of Lac Leman, it juts out into France - indeed, Geneva airport has customs exits into both countries.

I expected Geneva to be beautiful, and it is. It reminded me of Belfast: a large, elegant, predominantly 19th century city surrounded by mountains and giving out onto a lake. And that wasn't all: Geneva was the birthplace of Calvinism, and it is still the capital of western European protestantism. Among the fashionable boutiques and restaurants are bible study shops; the churches are plain and empty, a contrast with neighbouring France.

Geneva Cathedral is probably the most dour and austere large urban church in western Europe, a great, ugly, heartless building staffed by serious men in black suits. Where the altar was is a stand holding a huge Geneva bible, on this day open at St Paul's Epistle to the Romans.

My abiding memory of the city will be the way that people waited to cross the road even if there was no traffic. They stood at the pedestrian crossings and waited for the little man to go green, even if it took several minutes and no car had passed.

It summed up the spirit of the city for me, and it was a relief to drive over the mountains back into shabby, chaotic Catholic France.
