  • (Roller-shutter) A roller shutter, roller door or sectional overhead door is a type of door or window shutter consisting of many horizontal slats (or sometimes bars or web systems) hinged together. The door is raised to open it and lowered to close it.

  • (Roller Shutter) This is a door made of a number of narrow steel flats joined together horizontally. They are fitted into vertical guides at either end which allow them to slide up and down. The narrow slats enable the door to be rolled up around a tube at the top.

The present-day BMW Mini has about as much in common with my 1962 orange Austin Mini, registration 7888VT, as it has with a pre-war Austin 7.

I don't see so many BMW Minis with their rear suspension sagging like this or the driver's door hanging loose. I was stopped by the police on the M6 near Walsall once because I was driving slowly in torrential rain with no windscreen wipers. Fortunately I could talk to the officer through the sliding window - by that time the door wouldn't open without falling off its hinges.

I would have gladly accepted the ?2000 cash to scrap this vehicle since it cost me the grand sum of ?35. Ah, the Good Old Days.

This shot was taken looking north on the old A46 Fosse Way just before it swings right & passes under the Midland main line railway bridge where one of Syston Junction's signal boxes used to stand. The vehicles in the distance are travelling on the dual carriageway bypass that replaced Fosse Way in the late 1960s.

Loughborough, Melton Mowbray and Syston (Explorer Maps)

This map is part of the Ordnance Survey's Explorer series designed to replace the old Pathfinder map series. At 1:25,000 scale this detailed map shows a host of attractions including gardens which are open to the public, nature reserves and country parks as well as all official footpaths, bridleways, roads and lanes. Other facilities covered include: camping and caravan sites, picnic areas and viewpoints, selected places of interest, rights of way information for England and Wales, National Trail and Recreational Path routes, and selected tourist information. The main advantages of this map are the geographical design of the sheetlines to capture the best local coverage, and the coverage of a larger area for value for money. The series is aimed mainly at the experienced map user but can be used by tourists and locals alike.
