The Hellines were first called "???????" ("Graeki" with the letter "G" pronounced "Y" as in "Yard") by the Illirians (present day Italians), when the former arrived in Italy from ancient Dodoni (city in Epirus, Greece) as colonists. According to another source, these colonists named ?????? or ??????? ("Graii" or "Graeci"), came to Italy from ????? ("Graia"), an ancient town in Viotia, Greece (maybe contemporary Tanagra) and founded a new Hellenic Colony there with the name Nea Polis (which means New City, later to become known as Napoli, or Naples in English). This was the very first time that the Latins came close to the Hellines (Greeks) and thus named them all "Graeci" after the citizens of Graia; and given that most modern European languages originate from Latin, the word "Graecus" became the root for all other respective names for ??????? and ????? (??????) ("Hellin" and "Hellas" or "Hellada"), e.g. Greek-Greece, Grec-Grece, Grieche-Griechenland.

Later on, during the first Christian centuries, the word " ???????" (Hellines) became a synonym to "heathen", in order to distinguish the followers of old faith from those of the new -official- religion, and along with ?????? ("Romii", originating from "Romans") and ????????? (=of Greece), the name ??????? (Graeki) stayed in use until the foundation of the new Hellenic state in 1832AC. From that time on, the ancient terms Hellas and Hellines are used primarily in the interior of this small peninsula in South-East Europe to identify the country and its inhabitants, while the ones originating from Graeci remain in the vocabularies of the European languages.

As in an average family, the Frank family photo album begins with the birth of their daughters (Margot in 1926 and Anne in 1929). There is nothing in these photographs to even hint at the horrors that Anne and her family would later endure. What we know about Anne's fate has a direct effect on how her book Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl is perceived. Equally so, it is now impossible to view these family photos with an impartial eye. The exhibition Anne Frank: A Private Photo Album is comprised of 70 photographs taken by Otto Frank with his Leica camera between 1926 and the summer of 1942, first in Frankfurt and then in Amsterdam. Through the lens of his Leica, Otto explores the unlimited possibilities of photography while recording his daughters' childhood. His photographs provide viewers with insight into the personalities of Anne and Margot and add an extra dimension to the story of the Holocaust: how a once happy family is destined to come to a cruel and horrific end. This exhibition is presented in partnership with The Anne Frank Center USA.

Jen Does Lucky Chances

Maybe the weirdest part of a very weird day. Jen and I woke up, went to a sale at DWR, had brunch at Rose's Cafe in Cow Hollow, walked to Fisherman's Wharf past a group of volunteer bicyclists/home builders who were taking a photo celebrating their cross-country ride, bought cheap souvenirs, went to Ripley's Believe it Or Not!, had an Irish Coffee at the Buena Vista, followed by a beer on Pagel Beach, then we rented a car and drove to an open house/reception, except the invitation was for Thursday, not Saturday, so instead we went to Target in Colma. After leaving Target in Colma, we took a wrong turn and happened upon Lucky Chances, the world's most ghetto casino. We thought we'd found our chance to make it big, but inside all we found were some very glum people playing cards lightning-quick like real pros. Also, they were even more glum that you're imaging. So we left, making sure to take photos with the THREE limos parked out front (you know you're at a ghetto casino when all 3 limos parked out front are from the 80's). After leaving, we tried to catch a movie, but couldn't agree on anything, so we went to the world's scariest buffet, a Japanese Sushi/Seafood Buffet. They were very stingy giving out their lobster, which made sense until we found the lobster's meat was gray. I couldn't make myself eat it. Then we left the seafood/sushi buffet, and spent 40 minutes trying to get out of the parking structure. Then I dropped Jen off at her house so she could make sangria out of boxed wine. Yes, it was our strangest day.

El diseno quise usar colores y hacer formas para dar la ilusion de "Fuego", pero que no hubieran llamas, duh, xD
En fin, es lo que ven, mucho trabajo en este diseno, me encanta dibujar muchas cosas... desde el cabello, el vestido, hasta ese pequeno reflejo de la bola que tiene al phoenix dentro. =)

today is a fantastic day.

I submitted my flickr to the school newspaper hoping to be a photo-of-the-week, and the photo editor liked my stuff so much that she asked me to do work for the paper. USB charger blown up

A demonstration of why you should not leave your gadgets charging AND unattended. This USB charger / adaptor blew up with a mighty flash and bang right in front of me, tripping the mains to off.

As you can see, there's mess on the inside. It looks like the wire from the mains connection somehow became un-soldered, and touched other parts of the circuit, and caused an explosion. Possibly dry solder joint that over time failed.

The photo has been resized from the original 14 bit RAW image, so unaffected by JPEG conversion in editing.

"Working" television for a dollhouse

I got a digital photo frame keychain a couple of days ago. I'm planning on making it a television for a dollhouse. All I need to do is to make suitable "program" screens for it and cover the text below the screen. The USB memory stick is here just to show the scale.

The frame is charged through a USB connection and includes a program for transferring pictures from a computer to the frame. The photos in the frame are 128x128 pixels in size and the frame has about 2 Mb of memory.

The monkey picture is on the cover of an A4 spiral-bound journal made of banana paper.
